Hiking/camping bible for Oregon

A must have if you live in or close enough (like me) to Oregon to camp there, and you insist that your campground has a hiking trail, like I do! I found a wealth of information on where to camp and hike in my neighboring state, and even though I haven't had time to go camping yet, I have used this to find hiking trails to explore. Many nice, enticing photos throughout the book, and decriptions of the wildlife and scenery at the campgrounds and hikes, all nessesary information about the campgrounds and hikes are given, such as how many tent sites are available (I was surprised to see one campground had only one tent site!) and how long the hiking trails are. If you need a guide for Oregon on camping and/or hiking, I think this is the book you've been looking for.

Extremely Helpful and Informative!

I used this as my main reference book on a trip to Oregon last summer (1998). The info was current, easily understandable, directions were very accurate. I loved the list of radio stations at the end of each chapter - it eliminates searching around the dial while you drive. And I contacted cities from the list of Chambers of Commerce and received a lot of additional helpful info. The best recommendation that I can give is that I'm headed for California this summer and the Martin's book is at the top of my short list of books to buy! PS - There is a 1999 update available now.

Last year was our 13 year of our cooperative day camp. We meet 1 day a week in someone's backyard and 1 day a week we go on a field trip. This book has all the organizational skills to get you through starting the camp to the end of summer party! If you are a mom, teacher or counselor this book has great art, science, recipes, music, games, and more for children ages 2-7. Our program has been very succesful! Enjoy your children! They are only young a short time.

The guide to buy...

My father and I prefer to travel without planning too many days ahead of ourselves. We'd finished two nights of packing into Organ Pipe National Monument and still had a week ahead of us. We weren't sure what came next. East to Kofa National Wildlife Refuge? West to Tucson? Luckily, we found this godsend of a book sitting pretty in the visitor center store. I am sure this book is fast becoming the essential guide to packing in Arizona. I am almost afraid to recommend it because I am giving away so many well-kept secrets: Aravaipa Canyon, Sycamore Canyon, Picacho Peak, Angel Basin... some of the greatest lesser-known places in the Southwest. I have followed this guide down countless miles of forest road to some of my favorite hikes in the West. The guide is well-organized into four climate regions: desert, canyon, mountain, and urban "backyard" hikes for those who only have a few hours. Each description is captivating enough to convince you - and you will never want to leave life on the trail behind you.

Basic Spanish collection for any student, writer or translator.

Review Date: 2007-08-11

This is a basic collection, don't expect extensive discussions on orthography, morphology or syntax. It is composed of six books: Grammar, Orthography, Synonyms & Antonyms, Conjugation, Dictionary, and Doubts & Common Mistakes.

I think they are the basic you should have in your bookshelf if you are learning Spanish, translating Spanish or you are a writer who sometimes need a hand with your Spanish.

Again, these are not the best reference books for the Spanish language, but I think are pretty good for most people. If you need more information you should get also other books, like a more extensive Synonyms & Antonyms dictionary, the RAE dictionary and the DPD (the Diccionario Panhispanico de Dudas, from the RAE).

This book is great for everyone in the family, mom, dad, younger brother, older sister, andyone. Its for first time campers as well as remebering summer camp vets. This book has both a parent and kids section, both equally great. Its informative, and fun. You can find everything from how to deal with homkesickness, to camp games, and everything inbetween. It is so easy to use, there is the parents section, the kids section, an index and a table of contents. I myself am a first time camper, and it truly helps. If you, your child, or your friend are looking for a good book about summer camp, this is it. It even has lists of other camp books and movies, and camp finding websites. It truly has everything you need to prepare for a fun summer camp adventure!

Having toured the site at Dachau Concentration Camp in August, 1999, I found the author's descriptive events of camp life both eerie and frightening. I was there where all this had taken place. Hard to believe. It was a very different time, but tragedy is in the air to this day and the utmost respect is apparent in every visitor and guide and display at the site. However, Wise's characterization of Christian Reger and his fellow inmates draws a picture of hope amidst suffering and above all, forgiveness. Some are more capable of it than others. Forgiveness is a challenge in this world, for sure. Christian Reger found it in the depths of his faith. An inspiration to all. After 14 months as a Prisoner of War in Germany during World War II, my own father was able to tell of the basic plight of all involved at that level....." 'they' (the German guards and soldiers) were just as hungry and frightened as us." War is hell, that's a given, but to know that our faith is strengthened through another's suffering, is to know that that suffering was not in vain in the least.

This small, inexpensive, but powerful book is an excellent tool for beginners. It's a must-have for the serious student of calligraphy who really wants to learn how to execute good letter forms while doing the basic lettering styles of Italic and Foundational. Good things really do come in small packages!

Fascinating exploration of life in Auschwitz
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-03
This is a scholarly but very readable account of what the Auschwitz experience was like. The author performed thorough research and interviews with numerous former prisoners and staff to get a close-up look at the different sections of the camp, including Canada and the inmate infirmary, different aspects of camp life, such as resistance and sexuality, and the experiences and interactions of different classes of prisoners and the SS. Despite the book's serious and scholarly tone, it has a humane and personal feel to it, probably because the author himself was an inmate and so many interviews were quoted from in the book. It also describes the construction, evolution and liberation of the camp. This book is a must read for anyone studying Auschwitz.

What could be more exciting than to be a part of a basketball camp with a bunch of other boys who love the same sport? This is a bright spot too, since Jay, and his family, is forced to live with his grandfather since his family lost their house in a fire. Jay is all excited to be a part of the Acadia University Basketball Camp in Nova Scotia. He gets to stay in an actual college dorm and be away from home for a whole week. What makes it even better is the fact that his best friend Mike is going to the same camp.

What starts out as being probably the most thrilling thing that has ever happened in Jay's life, takes a horrible turn. Mike's older brother, Chad, who is supposed to be the boy's coach and mentor, is not at all what a mentor should be. It will take some work on the part of the boys to make it through a tough week. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Chad used to seem like such a great guy. It takes the boys to make a difference in Chad's life.

"Personal Best" is an exciting continuation of the story which was first introduced in Sylvia Gunnery's book "Out of Bounds." I am anxiously waiting to see if Ms. Gunnery decides to continue Jay's story in another book.
