One can only be astounded by the interior of the Rezzonico. The Whitehot Audio Tour really added a whole new dimension to the experience. By having a narrative of the interior I was able to gain a better appreciation of the magificent of the surroundings. Whitehot got ir right when they developed this product.

Review Date: 2002-05-19
In this first comprehensive analysis of several recently uncovered sites in the American Bottom region, Mehrer focuses on household archaeology to shed light on the daily lives of the Mississippian people. He examines the objects of daily use - domestic and ceremonial buildings, storage and processing pits, mundane and exotic artifacts - to reconstruct the framework of everyday life and to show how the routines of early native people changed with time. New findings reveal the changing roles of households in their communities, exposing a social order more complex than previously thought.

Good Cai Guo-Qiang book.

This book presents a series of commentaries, chronologies, and an interview with Cai Guo-Qiang. The text is in both French & English, so many pages are taken up to present the materials in both languages. There are about 7 different writers. The last part of the book is an illustrated catalog of some of Cai Guo-Qiang's work. Featured prominently is a show at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon. He set up a fully operating roller coaster and a portable river (big enough for people to paddle canoes around) inside the museum. List price for this book is $24.95. I paid $32. I haven't found it for less than $118 on Amazon.

Rich, Creative, Comic-illustrated History of French Louisiana
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-24
This is among the most creative and engaging pieces of Louisiana history I have encountered. It is billed as a 'pictorial history for kids of all ages," and that is true. It is so well-illustrated and clearly written that it would be accessible to most 8 year olds, but this grown up loved it.

I also learned a TON. Guy Faucheux is a true master of Louisiana French history, and his brother-in-law Wally Faucheux is an accomplished illustrator.

St. Roux's Press did a very fine job of printing this as well. The cover is very attractive, the paper quality is excellent, and the typeface is sharp. The glued binding is sturdy and appropriate to this brief book -- my copy has held up well to repeated readings.

Perfectly executed from start to finish.

P.S. For stuffier supplemental reading, I'd recommend Alcee' Fortier's various histories (written in the 1890s). Guy Faucheux credits Marcel Giraud's A History of French Louisiana and Carl Brasseaux's France's Forgotten Legion, both well-regarded works.

A delightful Book showing the many sides of Calder

I looked for a long time for a Book on Calder before I found this beautiful, yet well priced Volume. It's all here from the Toys and the wonderfully playful "Calder's Circus", to the Mobiles and Stabiles, with Jewelry, Household Objects, Bronzes, Tapestries, Rugs, Sculptures and much more in between. There are many wonderful photographs which showcase the wide array of Calder's Art and of course Calder himself. Also included are a timeline, a useful Bibliography and an interesting "Who's Who in Calder's World." At $ 32.00 this book is a must buy of one of America's most important and influential Artists of all time.

THIS BOOK BRINGS THE CALIFORNIA GOLD COUNTRY RIGHT INTO YOUR LIVING ROOM. THE PHOTOGRAPHS SHOW HOW GORGEOUS OUR CALIFORNIA REALLY IS. EVERYTIME I OPEN THE BOOK I SEE SOMETHING DIFFERENT. IT IS A CONSTANT REMINDER WHY I ALWAYS RETURN TO THE GOLD COUNTRY ON MY VACATIONS. I HAVE VISITED MANY OF THE PLACES SHOWN IN THE BOOK, AND WAS EVEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE IN ONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS (UNKNOWN TO ME AT THE TIME) FEATURED IN THIS WONDERFUL WORK OF ART.

Cambridge is that fun place I used to hang around when I was young and crazy. Who can forget Harvard Square after all. But there are many other memories of Harvard and student life there. This book really made me nostalgic. The natique postcards are charming; the scenes depicted, the costumes, the cars. I can't wait to give this book to my grandfather, who always talks about his Years at Harvard

An impressive compilation
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-13
Compiled with brief commentaries by W. H. Bunting, "The Camera's Coast: Historic Images Of Ship And Shore In New England" is an impressive compilation of historic period photographs of the ships, communities, industries, advertisements, and people along the coastline of New England in the 19th and early 20th century. An informative introduction by John R. Stilgoe provides a useful context in which to enjoy the images and notes an old (circa 1915) color photograph of clam diggers at work in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and concludes images of the steam ship Priscilla in 1896. Perfect for nostalgic browsing with respect to an American yesteryear now gone forever under the relentless advance of technological progress and population increases, "The Camera's Coast" is a welcome addition to personal, academic, and community library American History collections - and would admirable serve as a template for similar photography histories and celebrations of other regions of the United States.

A wonderful guide for enjoying the beauty of this special town on the Jersey Shore. Known for its bird and butterfly migration, Cape May Point also offers it's history, ecological beauty and its ability to take one back 100 years in New Jersey Shore American History. The author who is a resident of the "Point" is a proud keeper of the towns special history.
