Easy ReadingReview Date: 2004-05-11
It is a tour book providing suggested itineries for short driving tours around Britain. The book is exceptionally well laid out with clear maps, colourful photos and short vingettes of the sights and towns the tours pass through. It may seem shallow, but the layout and ease of reading are the reasons why I rate the book so well.
The information contained in each vingette is brief, perhaps too brief but I bought the book to get an idea where to go not to learn everything about particular places. Of course there are places not mentioned in the book which I will be going to anyway and I think the suggested driving times are more directed towards British drivers not North Americans or Australians who suffer from a tyranny of distance. The book gives no hint or suggestions for accomodations or restaurants, which is a bit of a pity, especially since each itinary takes two or three days.
This book should not be your only guide if you are visiting Britain, it is not deep enough and lacks accomodation and eating information, but as far as touring the countryside it does exactly what I bought it for, suggesting short driving itineries.
The layout is VERY 'DK Publishing' and I would have preferred to have had all my tour books in this format rather than the usual Frommer's. Although having said that I am used to Frommer's and like Frommer's depth and occasional bit of quirkiness.
Excellent guide to seeing Britain with a sports car or a classic Bentley.Review Date: 2006-02-10
This review is for the 6th edition, 2004 printing.
Excellent guide to seeing Britain with a sports car or a classic Bentley. You will enjoy some great driving tours and routes through this historical region of the United Kingdom.
Frommers has recently come out with more "Best-Loved Driving Tours" series ... guides that are not very inexpensive, but are very well researched and quite comprehensive. One will have plenty of driving tours and routes to chose from, whether you like arts and museums, scenic roads and breathtaking views, urban towns and shopping, or just want to experience a regione's culture and life.
Unlike the other Frommer guides that are fatter and heavier, this little book gives you not too many specifics on lodging or eating. It is geared strictly for the person behind the wheel and her or his passengers.
I have had a great experience using this guide and will recommend it to anyone who can afford it. Also, you might want to check to see if your library carries it and check it out for the duration of your visit abroad.
When I backpacked 4 months through Europe I had a copy of the Lonely Planet for Europe (a thick and heavy book) because it covered more cities and esoteric towns, a ripped chapters of all the international youth hostals Europe of the countries I visited, and as primary guide for nominal cities and capitals I used Frommers (ripped the book and kept only chapters of countries planning to visit - so I can keep the weight down).

By Far the BEST Strategy Guide I have ever read!Review Date: 2002-10-03
HOWEVER!!! Everything that I conplained about and I mean EVERYTHING that was wrong with the PS2 version strategy guide was addressed and fixed in this version. Apparenly the guy who wrote this book played GTA 3 a lot and it showed in the incredibly detailed and powerfully enthusiastic manner in which the book was written. Where one map would have done okay as in the firt book, he gave you several, all with different colors and excellently labeled icons!
His depiction of mission levels including the Off Road missions (which by the way were all but completely ignored by his predecessor) were written with precision and step by step, easy to follow directions.
One example of the differences in the two books:
Hidden packages map: THe first strategy guide for the PS2 gives a map of each island and a little icon corresponding to the package location, and on the adjacent page a shore sentence telling you where each one is.
In this new book, there are not only maps and FAR MORE detailed explanations of the packages but little thumbnail screenshots showing EVERY package in it's "in game" location! Talk about going the extra mile!!!
While the first attermpt at a strategy guide is more of a glorified hints and tips manual that reads as if it were slapped together after the author went through the game once or twice quickly at most, this book is a bona fide walkthrough of every single facet of the game.
Oh and if you are buying GTA 3 on PS2 and not on the PC? BUY THIS GUIDE ANYWAY! Forget the PS2 version's guide, trust me! You just have to get used to the differences in the control scheme is all. But you will thank me for it later on. Hey if you need the control buttons, the game itself comes with a manual!
In short, while the PS2 guide did have its very limited usage, it becomes all but completely pointless in light of the bigger, better and far more enlightening strategy Guide that was written for the PC, and again this is true even if you only own the PS2 version and have no intention of buying the PC port of the game!
Great contents and strategies but bad quality printing.Review Date: 2002-12-17
This book is great, however, I still spotted many mistakes that should be fixed. Some of the hidden packages on the map are marked in wrong location. One of them is on the pier, when I went there but couldn't find it, actually it was on the OTHER pier further up. Some of the hidden packages discription & screenshots are misplaced. Don't rely too much or totally on this guide, use your imagination. it will be much more fun.
I use this guide to help me to locate hidden packages, rampages location, unique stunts, secrets and path for checkpoint-to-checkpoint missions. Which is very handy as reference.
Map arrangement could be improved, I hate to flip for description at the back of the page everytime I needs them. It would be better if the map placed on the left page; description on the right page.
However, the paper quality is kind of bad, which can easily peel off. And due to bad maps arrangement, causes too many flipping front and back vice versa, the pages actually peel off from book, and I actually forget about the main portion as I only need the map ;)
If you are buying this book, make sure you get it stamped before start reading.

Great Book, But Poor PublisherReview Date: 2003-05-31
Its great material to have; however, the quality of this book along with most books published by Kessinger Publishing is VERY POOR. They simply pass the original book through the the photo copier, assemble the pages and sell them as books.
I strongly recomend the material on this book, and if you wish to buy it don't this book or any other published by Kessinger as you won't like the quality of the product. I am very certain that there are other purchasers who will agree with me on this.

a good book overallReview Date: 2008-02-03
Now, after reading this book, I think some projects could have been a little more detailed, and some other a little less: The project on 'how to fill coolant' takes two pages front and back, but the one on 'how to change thermostat' only takes one...
Also, some projects explain how to replace such and such part, but it doesn't explain why you would want to replace these parts if your car breaks down:
* "how to replace distributor cap and rotor"; sounds great, but how do I know that these are the parts I need to replace if my car breaks down? It doesn't say anything about that in the electrical troubleshooting chart in this chapter.
* "How to replace the starter"; sounds great too, but where do I find it? there's no diagram in this book that shows you where to look under the hood, beside a picture of a car, at the beginning of the chapter, with a front mounted engine (my car, like most front wheel drive nowdays, has an engine mounted sideway); and the car used as an example in this project is different than mine.
Anyway, the point is, a little more details would have been nice.
However, it is a decent book and it gave me a better comprehension of how things work under the hood. It also gave me more confidence to work on my car.
My advice is: buy this book to familiarize yourself with cars, and learn very basic car maintenance stuff such as changing your oil, checking your fluids, tires etc.
For bigger projects like 'how to replace a water pump' (project 29), this is probably not the book you need.
From helpful troubleshooting charts and maintenance routines to color photos and diagrams, this 'real world guide' is a pickReview Date: 2007-03-12

How To Restore Metal Auto TrimReview Date: 2008-07-04
how to restoe metal auto trimReview Date: 2007-01-18
great book on trimReview Date: 2007-06-14
There were sections of replating that I skimmed over. all of my trim was stainless. The book walks you through tools and techniques. After reading it I went out and did some hammer work on the dents, then some sanding, then polished everything to a perfect shine. I think it looks better than the replacement trim I have seen on other cars. I am sure that some overseas factory worker is not putting the same attention into polishing the trim as I did.
The book is a great addition to your library if you have some experience restoring trim, or its even better if you have absolutely no experience or idea where to start. It will walk you through the entire process with plenty of pictures too.
