I just recently purchased this book, so I have not had a chance to use it yet, tho I have looked thro it. There are lots of patterns and ways in which to use them, and most of them seem simple and straight forward enough. I may write another review once I have used the book.

I own about every how to textile book in print; so I really do know a good craft book when I see one. This is a good one. The directions are clear and easy to follow, the examples are good, and there are plenty of variations offered for each method. I would certainly highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to make fabric flowers to use on garments, journal covers, collages, gift boxes, and a myriad of other possibilities. I checked it out of the library before buying it and ordered it as soon as I had read it, as it's one I know I'll use over time.

This is a book filled with really simple fabric flowers. When it arrived my craft group each chose a design and we made them at the next meeting. The directions are easy to follow and the range of designs from small pieces of fabric is very appealing. A different flower to dress up every garment is very achievable.

I was very impressed with this book, attractively presented with easy to read instructions for the projects. Not all of the projects appealed to me personally but there were more than enough to justify the purchase of the book. I am hoping to include some of the flowers as embellishments to my shibori dyed georgette jackets.

This is exactly the type of book I've been looking for !!! Thank you Elizabeth Searle for writing it and designing all of these ***fantastic*** flowers. The directions look to be very informative and easy to follow. What an awesome assortment to choose from. I AM SO EXCITED !! I just received it today and can hardly wait to begin making some myself. The only problem I foresee is choosing which design to make first !! Got to go ! I can hear the fabric calling me !!! THANKS AGAIN !! PS: BUY THIS BOOK NOW !!!

I actually just found out that Bradygames released 2 books, (PS2, and XBOX + PC) for this game. This XBOX + PC Book is almost completely accurate in terms of where it says items or locations should be. Well, I should say that the maps in the "Odd Jobs" chapter are 100% accurate. The maps in the beginnings of the other chapters are -slightly- off (no idea why though), but if you like to explore in the GTA games, a rough location plus a description is all you need!

Lots of maps, Racing maps, weapon locations, actual mission descriptions + storyline, a huge "Odd Jobs" chapter explaining every THING you can do if you're not on a mission, sprays, camera shots, horseshoes, bike jumps (unique stunt bonuses), and oysters will keep you busy for a long time if you're after the 100% completion mark. In addition, the last 5 things I mentioned above have in-game pictures in case you just can't find it.

I recommend it. It makes a good addition to the game itself.

Comparison of PS2 to XBOX and PC Version

I have owned both versions of this guide, and I ended up giving away the PS2 Version. It was very inaccurate in some of the locations of items. For a specifice example, the locations of the Photo ops in San Fierro. The locations were not accurate, and not even matched up correctly by number. Even some of the horseshoe locations were completely inaccurate that they were not even the correct location, which annoyed me because I spent a large amount of time searching for something that was not there. I own a PS2, but I use the XBOX & PC version because of its accuracy. There is no real difference, as the guide does not tell you which button needs to be pressed, so the XBOX version still fits.

Also, for those who I know are curious, the XBOX version gives more insight on the dating and "coffee" aspects, unlike the PS2, which skips over it.

Complicated to use!

This guide is in NO WAY easy to use. No index or table of content, and being as big as it is it's not easy to search through without them. However the content is very good, but you can save yourself some money and just Google 'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas online strategy guide' and you'll find one with the same info, help, tips, secrets, etc you need to complete the game with 100% progress for free.

The book was excellent but for those who have a PC would prefer the
X BOX hints also have hints for PC. The light was shining on those who had X BOX not a PC. It does not suggest any of the schools which makes it difficult for those who have trouble, lets say in driving school.

This was the first time ever I had read about Buddha and I was afraid I would not understand it without reading thousands of pages. This book is an excellent "primer" on Buddha; lots of "basic" information packed on a short book. Anybody wanting to learn more about Buddha should start with this book. Anybody wanting to read just a few hours but learn enough about Buddha should also read this book.

Simply put, Hamilton's book will make you into a better builder . . . it is a treasure trove of useful information, tips, techniques, and tricks . . . plus the writer has a great sense of humor and the fun he has building and sharing how to build better comes through on every page. Great photographs too. Get yourself a copy, but also get copies for your builder friends--they will really appreciate it and never forget you for having done so.

Finally,a diorama book that doesn't focus on battle scenes (but those guys can learn a LOT with this book).

Instead, Ken shows how to spice up your automotive subjects, from simple display base scenes to complete, contained scenes.

Rust, mud, grime, and slime. Beaten, dented, worn out, used and abused. Ken shows you how.

Also, there is plenty about texturing, photo-reducing and sign-making, as well as an excellent primer on figure posing and painting.

This is a book that has been long overdue for model car builders, but as I said, anyone who works with scale models of any sort will find this to be a gold mine.

organizes by the primary color the crystals are found (some have different colrs/forms), so that's helpful; like that it give a brief historical description before telling you everything else.... tells you lots and almost every possible use of each crystal: divinatory, healing, around home/work, around kids, around animals/pets, protective function, psychic function, environmental, any special properties (if any), ways to recharge it, and even brief table of symbolic associations (plant/herb, zodiac, chakra, planet, element, etc) and a short table on the types there are and the colors that you can find
has good pictures
only problem is that it wasn't quite what i was hoping for....but luckily i bought two other crystal/gemstone books when i got this one just to have a better reference library; is good for a fast look up of something if your in a hurry; just a little too new age for my liking, but still a nice book to have.....only get this if you are really new age or you get it w/ another crystal/gemstone book (i'd go for either The Crystal Bible or Healing Crystals and Gemstones; i got these at same time and both are really nice; Crystal Bible is great size for if you want something when you travel and had a bit of everything... Healing Crystals has scientific info in it too: mohs hardness scale, composition, etc...)

wonderful book, plenty of info, beautifully illustrated

Brief introduction covers choosing your crystals, basics on chakras, meaning of colors, crystal healing, divination, crystal magic, cleansing and empowering, crystals at work / travel / home.
Directory of crystals is organized according to color (white, purple, blue, green, pink, yellow, red, brown, black).
Each crystal is illustrated with high quality photographs, and descriptions cover mythology, divinatory significance, uses and recharging methods, as well as a small table (for each crystal) containing info n properties and symbolic associations (zodiac, planet, element, candle color, guardian angel, chakra, herbs/incenses/oils and associated crystals).
If it contained info on where best stones come from and where they can be acquired, the book would have been a ten star, PERFECT. e.g. - as illustration for selenite, book features picture of wonderful selenite wands (with beautifully crafted crystal tips), and for the last 2 hours I have been searching the net, fishing blindly for something even remotely similar (would love to own one just like the one on the photo). There are no references to photographs / photographers, or to sources of stones featured in photos or any other clues as to where one can find stones and objects like the ones in the pictures. Grrr :(((

This book was a very good resource for my car. The details, descriptions, and also real world advice made it possible for me to take on a job that would have normally cost me around $800.00 in labor alone. Even if I didn't plan on working on my car, this book, and most likely all the other Haynes manuals, makes it a lot easier to understand the car, gives you the confidence to perform some of the maintenance yourself, and when it comes to bringing the car in for service you won't need to just plainly trust the mechanic and hope that they are not overcharging you.

Overall great experience!

This manual is not just for the grease monkey, but for the average car owner. Even if you don't do the work yourself, this guide will give you an idea of the work involved and educate you as a consumer if you ever need to take your car in for repairs. It is also a nice reference if you buy a used car and the original manual is missing. It has a maintence schedule as well as a troubleshooting guide.

Since the manual covers multiple makes and models, I found some of the photos and directions inaccurate when it came to my 98 Camry 4 Cylinder 2.2L. Although this did not give me great confidence at first in doing my work, in the end it didn't matter.

I remember growing up with these books but have not seen them in a while. When I needed to work on my Camry again I was pleased to find it. The descriptions and the pictures are good. Sometimes you have to read it several times before tackling the job. You also need to jump around in the book at times which is fine.

This manual is good for general information, but don't expect it to substitute a good service manual. Some of the topics covered in the manual are in better detail than others. If you want thorough steps and procedures in performing maintenance and repair, I suggest you spend a little more money on a better manual.

I had a problem with the idle speed on my car, so I bought this book to fix this problem myself. This book was very detailed to help me find my problem. My problem was electrical in nature, and this book instructed me how to do a self-diagnostic. I performed a self-diagnostic and found out the particlular electrical code which was causing my problems. Good. But this book did not tell me which part needed to be replaced in order to fix the problem. I assumed I had to replace the ECM, so I looked it up, and this book told me how to fix and replace everything related to the fuel system except how to replace the ECM. So, now I'm back to square one. In trying to learn more about the electrical workings of the car, I tried to read about all the different systems which proved to be a difficult task because this book scatters information about particular elecrical systems throughout various sections of various chapters making the learning of these electrical systems a task as difficult as fixing most problems on my car.

I own a 1997 Ford Aspire and recently got this book. So far I have not used it much, though it has helped me with some simple procedures like changing the air filter. However, while flipping through parts of this manual I have found that it is definately useful to have a basic knowledge of automobile mechanics in order to correctly complete some of the procedures.

As a person who has learned most of what I know about working on cars by taking something apart on a lazy day, I don't have some of the experience that I think this book assumes the reader has. For example, the section on repacking the wheel bearings confused me within the first few steps. I definately recommend reading through an entire procedure and making sure you understand it all before getting started, to avoid getting into trouble.

The only gripe I have, which is fairly minor, is the ten-year coverage contained in the book, resulting in plenty of pictures with captions like "Typical engine compartment components".

All in all, I think this is a useful book to have, though extremely amateur mechanics like myself may get confused by the lack of very detailed step-by-step instructions.

I blew a gasket!!!

Haynes Festiva/Aspire Manual

Review Date: 2001-07-20
Haynes offers the only currently available non-factory printed repair service manuals in existence for the Ford Festiva.A good reference manual to help someone maintain their own car. Many of the procedures are accompanied by pictures and given explanations that sometimes are more extensive than the factory Ford shop manuals. Think of the Haynes manual as a supplement to the factory manuals, not a replacement. Upon reading, it will be clear the information is geared to the "shadetree mechanic". The Haynes manual covers the North American Ford Festiva from 1988 to 1993 and the Ford Aspire from 1994-97. With such broadbased coverage, you can expect some information not included in this book. For example, step by step transaxle overhaul, you will not find in the Haynes manual. Typical of Haynes, some generalization also applies with respect to certain diagnosis symptoms, which may or may not be attributed to the Festiva/Aspire coverage. Also, there is lots of pictorial emphasis on the Aspire which Festiva owners might find frustrating. In fact, some info can be misleading if not care is taken to differentiate between the two cars. Still, this manual has too much valuable data to pass up. A definite must-have for the Festiva owner.

I am the author of this book and regardless of how you rate this book, I want it to be known that I DID NOT plagarize any of the content, as Mr. Zabetakis implies. If he would have read the foreword to this book, he may have realized that I worked with leading engine builders and suppliers across this great country of ours.

I worked extremely hard developing the content of this book, as did all my subject matter experts, including Scott Shafiroff of Scott Shafiroff Racing Engines, John Lukovich of Lukovich Racing Engines, Dr. Rick Roberts, Director of Engineering at Edelbrock, John Levis of Wiseco Pistons, Mike Vendetto of Moroso Performance, Joey Lunati of Lunati Cams, and a host of other experts that were very generous of their time and knowledge.

If some of the content affirmed what was printed in other books on hot-rodding big block Chevys, so be it. Most of these things help set the foundation for the reader so they could better understand and appreciate all the new developments and refinements that our beloved big-block Chevy has gone through, all of which were communicated and illustrated in this book.

I hope this sets the record straight, and that you have as much fun building your big-block Chevys, as did I.

Sincerely,

Tom Currao

I'll offer a dissenting opinion. I didn't find the information in the book to be all that informative. There's little if anything different from what the manufacturers claim in their literature. Some of the sections seemed to be direct quotes from the manufacturers. Too brief, too many short blurbs. For me, it didn't help to distinguish between the wheat and the chaff in the aftermarket.

Excellent book with good mix of detail and media

Tom Currao put together an excellent book! I found each page to be exciting and filled with relevant detail. I was also able to identify with Tom's book because I also use the Mr. Gasket Desktop Dyno application for "figuring" out engine combinations. A handy list of suppliers is provided as is also an index. I feel that Tom's book has the best opportunity to become the defacto standard for replacing the now dated How to HOTROD Big-block CHEVYS book. I think that the book will be of special appeal to "grassroots" racers like me who need to be budget conscious while trying to go as fast as possible.

From knowing nothing to being an expert on big blocks.

This book has been a great resource, and guided me through a 502cid 470hp Marine engine build up and blue print. It gave me the confidence and guidance to polish and port my heads and make the proper Valve size and material selection. Also covered the Gen 5 and 6 blocks that are the new generation. With all the little head modification that he suggests and shows you to do, the dyno results where 506hp @ 588ft lbs of torque at 5200 rpm exceedeing my requirments and providing me with a very friendly motor. He also gives everybodys point of veiw in the industrie rather than foucus on one way of doing things he throughs all the respected engine parts and builder points of view in and lets you decide. Worked for me.

This is a very good book, with lots of practical hints.

However, for more serious home improvement projects, I have purchased the following books and found them to be very helpful to me:

Do It Yourself Home Improvement: Step by Step Guide to Home Improvement;

Ultimate Guide to Home Repair & Improvement (Ultimate Guide);

New Complete Guide to Home Repair & Improvement (Better Homes & Gardens);

Encyclopedia of Home Maintenance & Repair - This is a black & white book, but has very good explanations, especially of electrical.

Excellent, well-organized guide for the mechanically-challenged

Nicely organized, succinctly written guide to home repairs aimed at the mechanically-UNinclined. I especially like the fact that each problem is broken down into three categories: repair yourself, repair with a professional, and throw out and buy a new one. And the spiral binding is excellent for having the book beside you when attempting one of the amateur-appropriate repairs.

Perfect for the not so handy man!

This little guide is practical, concise and even a little funny. It covers a wide range of topics from plumbing, to painting, to getting out red wine and pet stains. It really does have it all! A perfect litttle gift for all those men (or women) in your life who need a little help doing those things that handy people seem to "just know" how to do.

Duck Tapers in the world unite!

There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who build, maintain and repair the physical infrastructure around us, and those who bug those who do to solve their problems for them. If you want some inspiration to move from the second category to the first, this is a fun place to start.

Duct Tape, as this book informs us, was originally called Duck tape. It was issued to troops to keep their ammunition boxes dry. But they found a thousand and one uses for it. And people have been continuing to find more uses.

However duct tape is not what this book is about. It's about applying the kind of imaginative and experimental 'duck tape' kind of "lateral thinking" to a thousand and one household maintenance problems.

I think the idea is to use it for inspiration rather than reference. The ideas presented are well thought out and well presented. And fun.
