A sweet book

This book, and the other three in the series, have sweet, soft drawings that fascinate babies and encourage older children to imitate the illustrated actions. The text is simple but expressive, and my daughter has enjoyed having the "What can you do in the...." series read to her since she was 4 months old. At 22 months, these beautiful books are still some of her favorites.

Who doesn't love playing in the rain?!

Review Date: 2008-06-24
This story is about a little Asian girl's day during a rainy morning or afternoon in April. The book is lots of fun because of the rhyming words and also fun words that the author chose to describe the raindrops like ping-ping-ping of the rainy hitting the awning,Gurlge, Gurgle it goes down the water spout, pitty-plip-plop, pitty-pat-splat the rain drops I caught in my hat, and run-a-tum-tum raindrops on my umbrella!

Not only are the illustrations nice, the rhyming fun but there is also a little game of guess the animal by the sound it makes. This is a cute book for young children.

And it helps to remind us adults remember a rainy day and all the fun we had exploring jumping in puddles, making little stick dams, catching the rain on our tongues and just listening to the sounds / music the rain makes. Hopefully it will also inspire us to take our little ones out to play in the rain, to explore and to listen to the music the rain makes! Enjoy!!!!

Delightful, Colorful Children's Tale

Review Date: 2007-06-22
"Whoosh Went the Wind!" opens as a schoolboy careens into his classroom with the excuse of how a mischievous wind caused him to arrive late. As he tells his story, his teacher becomes increasingly suspicious of his tale about a wind that blew dandelions from a field and the stars off the post office flag. A surprise ending will delight children aged 5 through 8. The book is lavishly illustrated by Houston-native Vincent Nguyen, who is also part of the art department at Bluesky Studios, makers of the movies "Ice Age" and "Robots." This book delighted my 7-year-old grandson.

This is a beautifully written book on rain that asks and answers a great many questions thoroughly and clearly so that young readers can understand very complex processes. The language is scientific, yet also written to engage children in the beauty and wonder of the world around them. The beginning of the book, in which the origin of rain is described, draws on children's curiosity and imagination, and leads them to value scientific inquiry. The breathtaking illustrations clearly enhance the story, the wonder, and the facts contained in the book. Each page is a delight to the eye!

My son, age 9, is a weather buff. He has several books on weather that he looks at often, but this one is his favorite. He has learned so much from this book and he loves the color photos throughout the book. It even inspired him to take his own cloud photos.
