enjoy working crossword puzzles as a break from reading.

Well organised and clear for the student of British Weather.

The focus of each chapter is a distinct region of the British Isles. There are ample details of the routine patterns of weather
and climate, as well as clear accounts of some severe weather events of the past century. The level of writing would suit
the amateur, but there is also some more complex material where a background knowledge of key terms and the processes they
represent would be helpful. There are clear summaries of weather types and a final section on climate change. The book is
well illustrated and there are many tables of data to keep the number-crunchers happy. An invaluable teaching aid for schools
and undergarduates in the UK and elsewhere, as well as the a challenging read for the amateur enthusiast.

I loved this book. The book was an easy read, the explanations were clear, and the topics are quite complete for the beginner/intermediate
remote sensing student, which translates to undergraduate to beginning graduate level students. I used this book to study
for my oral exam (end of second year qualifier exam) and I felt like I learned so much in even 1 month compared to sitting
in lecture for a whole entire quarter. By the way, I passed my oral exam. I haven't finished going through the whole book
but for anyone who needs a refresher on remote sensing retrieval methods and a general overview of the topic of remote sensing
this book will serve you well.

Understanding "Global Warming" - as a weather cycle?
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-04-06
Review Date: 2007-04-06
A Roadmap of Time is a key to understanding the current Global Warming debate. Written in the early 1970's before the topic
became politically charged, Brad Steiger tells the story and presents the evidence of three researchers of weather cycles.
He explores the effect of weather cycles on crops, the economy, social and political changes, and population. The data bank
used by these researchers is massive, spanning over 10,000 years.
And sure enough, we're in a warming pattern. But what Mr. Gore doesn't let on, is that between 100-year cycles, a 500-year cycle, and sunspot cycles, the warming cycle will end with a cold-dry period, and then a cold-wet period. Pollution of the environment may affect the weather cycle slightly, but so do volcanoes and forest fires. The prections for the year 2000, made 25 years before, are pretty accurate.
The best reason to read this book is to understand the current weather debate, free of the political baggage. Another reason is to understand and anticipate political, social, and economic trends, as the authors intended.
The book is out of print, but used copies are available. It was a 'Book of the Month Club' selection in the mid-1970's, so there are many copies out there. Get one!

On the eve of his death, Ethan Kearney is visited by a faceless stranger. Together they embark on a moral journey for the
absolution of Ethan's soul. From their omniscient vantage point, Ethan uses glimpses of his memories to retell his life's
story. He recounts the fate of his doomed family, his brother's involvement with the Mafia, and his life on the streets of
Depression-era Staten Island. He shares his regrets, desires, and the horrors of World War II. Consigning himself to death,
Ethan finishes his story and awaits his judgment. But rather than receiving a decisive end, the faceless stranger offers Ethan
a precious gift: the ability to alter the past from the present. Upon accepting his gift, Ethan is warned that he must use
its powers wisely, as the fate of his soul depends upon his decisions.

When I first learned of this book, I was very excited. Living in Miami, FL, the sea is never far from me! So much has already
been written about Earth Magick, Air Magick and Fire Magick, but surprisingly little good information has been presented about
the Magick of the Sea. I actually read this book straight through, then went back and tabbed some of my favorite parts.
I really enjoyed the book, and will be using it as a unique reference for many years to come.

The Lloyd's book is one of the best book in the area of the ship motions. It was written carefully and it was well divided
in nice charpters. I have one exemplar available at my job. I am now trying to buy one to my personal library and it surprise
me, how an excellent text book can be rejected for the publishers. It is a basic text proper to be used in the naval architecture
and marine engineering graduated schools.

Teacher and weather writer James Lincoln Turner presents Seven Superstorms of the Northeast And Other Blizzards, Hurricanes
& Tempests, an in-depth survey of some of America's most severe and dramatic superstorms during the late 19th century and
the first half of the 20th century. From The Blizzard of 1888 to The Great Appalachian Storm of 1950, each of the seven superstorms
profiled (plus two massive hurricanes in August 1893) are described in both meteorological and human terms. Vintage black-and-white
photographs throughout Seven Superstorms of the Northeast add an extra immersive touch to this captivating true chronicle
of the beauty, majesty, and ruthless appetite for destruction of nature's strongest storms, accessible to lay readers and
weather science experts alike.

As an earth and atmospheric science professor who specializes in natural hazards, I've seen probably every text available
on this subject. For atmospheric hazards in particular, this is the best textbook I've used. It is easily accessible to
second year meteorology undergraduates, and could even be somewhat useful in a graduate course. Although the text emphasizes
the meteorological science of atmospheric hazards more than the societal impacts, I've found it to be a good balance for a
hazardous weather course. This is a substantial textbook with information on nearly all atmospheric hazards, and it is accompanied
by a well-produced CD-ROM (and website), which contain a lot of supplemental material and work very well in the classroom.
The print size is large and there are many supporting diagrams that are easy to read. My only complaint is the complete lack
of discussion of fog, which is a significant natural hazard. Otherwise, this is a superb textbook.

I was introduced to this book in a university literature class and was impressed with the caliber of the authors. Some of
my favorite poets, essayists and writers are amongst the authors. I have since added other works by these authors to my
library. If you want to find out more about many of history's most inspiring writers, add this book to your collection.
