Sophie gets excited when she hears the weather forecast predicting snow for the next day. Unfortunately, the snow doesn't arrive in time to cancel school. I have the earlier edition of this book. It's one of the first comprehensive books about snow. What it is and how it affects life. Even a lot about skiing, and avalanches, and clearing snow from roads, etc. Great to see that it's available again. There's sure a lot more to snow than one would think!

I purchased Wind, Rain, Clouds and Snow. Wonderful short science books and very easy for young readers. My 5 year old twins love to read their 'science' books. It is difficult to find simple non fiction books for this age group, but these are perfect fit.

For those of us who lucky enough (!) to cope with snow on a regular basis, this wonderful book provides tonic when we most need it.

Snow can suck! It hampers our movements. It ices our windshields. It's cold and wet.

But this warm book lets us into a secret. Snow is cool!

In "Snow Amazing" we learn incredible facts about snow.

But we also get to sit by the fire and hear wonderful stories about snow.

As winter aproaches - and I'm writing this from north of Toronto - my inclination is to dread the onset of winter and snow.

But this book inspires me to welcome snow and encourages me to learn even more about "that white stuff".

Scientific book for young children. In this "Snow and Ice" book you'll see for yourself what happens when water freezes and why icebergs are dangerous to ship.

The book contains stunning color photos of the natural world, which are the starting point for simple scientific investigations based on the weather. The text is written in a detailed and informative style for young reader.

The book discusses rain, snow and ice, sun and wind.

Some kids books you just love to read over and over, relishing every word and image. More often than not, your child loves these same ones. For us, this is one of those books. Kiesler perfectly captures the wintery scenes and the text is just right - straightforwardly describing the wonders of the first big snow of the winter on a small boy without any selfconsciousness. Captures the imagination. Love it.

I bought my book for my little niece because it was such a great price and had those cute sparkly pom pom stickers. She just loved putting those stickers on the pages. It was so much fun! The story is cute and sweet and great to read together.

As an natural resource educator I found this books to be a valuable tool. The information provided was ideal for the age level. I used the activities with Kindergarden to adults and found then to be simple enought to work with the younger grades while easy enought to adapt for the older students. It provided a wonderful take-home book for our visitors (we sell it in our nature center). A win for those parent who want to do fun educational activities with their children during the winter months. The pictues illustrate the concepts and I love the jokes hidden all over. Makes it a great book for those who want to read-and- do.

TEXT SUMMARY= Each short, rhyming poem about the accompanying snow picture is writen on either a one or two page spread with title and page number refering to the index.

VISUAL SUMMARY= Beautiful colour photographs capture the different moods of snow presented in different locations. The layout is varied with fullpage spreads, pictures watermarked in the background, mirrored pictures, and pictures offset from the edges.

CRITIQUE= This entire book-entity is a work of art, as the layouts vary to add variety to the mostly white images and black text and the pictures so perfectly express the picture they are pared with. This sense of unity can be attributed to the fact that unlike most picture books, the Stemple's photographs came before the text. The poems were only produced after he had given the photographs to his mother, Jane Yolen, who was then directly inspired by them. The short poems would most likely hold a child's attention with their humour and amusing rhymes.

Amazing photos. The nature can be just peacefull and complex at the same time.
