Weather Books

This book is an excellent read given the current conditions in the Gulf Coast. What an fantastic way to explain to children the acts of nature that cause such devastation.

Hurricanes covers hurricane power, the hurricane season, forecasting, storm warning, hurricane preparedness, what to expect during the storm and after the storm, as well as cleanup and recovery. There are also several helpful checklists for first aid and emergency kits. The definition of a hurricane and the naming of storms are some additional topics discussed, as well as home, family, and animal safety. A pocket sized 143-page compendium that is easily carried, Hurricanes is a valuable survival guide and belongs on everyone's bookshelf who lives in hurricane territory -- or who knows someone who lives in hurricane territory.

I think this is a great book for kids to learn a little about the environment. It gives answers to questions kids would actually ask such as "Where does the sun go at night?" and "What makes the wind blow?" It was very informative. Even I learned a little something!

My daughter enjoys it when we read this book to her. The words are beautiful poetry and the illustrations are creatively done with cut paper. I really enjoy it.

This book provides the best overall technical discussion of the use of satellite imagery and radar data in weather forecasting. For the weather enthusiast this book may at times be difficult to understand;however, there still is plenty of easy to understand information pertaining to visible, infrared, and water vapor imagery interpretation. The book is richly appointed with color and black and white figures with concise discussions of the meteorological conditions that produce the weather described in the figure. I would especially recommend this book for the serious student of meteorology.

This book is a perfect gift item for anyone who is spiritually inclined. It's small and the price is right. The photographs are absolutely jaw-dropping and accompanied by short scripture passages. I got one for my elderly mother-in law - she used it as the basis for her morning devotionals, choosing a photo and then using the scripture passage as the beginning point for her Bible reading. It would also be appropriate for anyone with a love of photography or The Weather Channel!

Anybody that has sailed a boat inland or off shore knows the name of Nigel Calder. His expertise is a milestone amoung sailors. This book is simply outstanding! Definately worth your money!

Good book for both undergrads and grads. also helpful as a reference book for researchers.

Not for the mathematically faint at heart, but an excelent tome on the mathematics describing weather as they existed at the time of publication. If you want to have a feel for how weather prediction by computer works, this is a good resource.
