I managed to get a copy of the Entrepreneurial Connection, and found it Enlightening. It fills in some of the holes and answers the questions entreprenuers are seeking everyday.

The author promised me what I was looking for was in this book. For the most part, He was right.

This Book offers Insights from a collection of infamous Entreprenuers. They are truly Words Of Wisdom.

I bought this book from Gurmeet (Gurmeet graciously autographed my copy - Thanks GS) at TiECon 2001, and when I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I've read it twice, and I received different insights each time. It's immaterial that this book is exclusively about entrepreneurs of South Asian origin. This book is ideally suited for ANYONE who wants to try to understand the deeper spirit of entrepreneurship, the sacrifices, the pain, and most of all the gratification of success. This book will inspire and it will prod the reader to reflect. TEC illustrates true grit and determination, and it will leave the reader with a deeper appreciation of American capitalism.

One insight gained from my readings: Immigrant values coupled with American capitalism/rugged-individualism/opportunity is an unbeatable combination.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Excellent reference for doctors; clergy; as well as family counselors, therapists and practitioners. The material on individual cultural characteristics and patterns is well written, well organized, and easily accessible. The wide range of contributors represents the top authorities in each area.

Great resource for anyone involved in counselling someone from an ethnic group other than one's own. The various contributors brought germane observations for each ethnic group. I am a priest who serves many Middle Eastern people. I found the language of this text accessible as a "layperson" to Psychology.

This book is comprehensive and inclusive of norms and beliefs within and across cultures. The book is quite specific and addresses nuances from different cultures that not only make it interesting to read, but highly applicable in the professional setting. Cultural myths are shattered and/or clarified, lending readers the chance to become aware of their own personal biases. I highly recommend this book!

WHILE I WON'T OFFER MUCH NEW TO PREVIOUS REVIEWS, I JUST HAD TO
COMMENT. THIS BOOK IS SAID BY SOME TO BE FICTION BUT IT HAS BOTH
PICTURES OF THOSE MURDERED AND AN EXTENSIVE INDEX. I AGREE IT IS
HARD TO BELIEVE BUT IF TRUE, AS I BELIEVE, IT IS THE MOST
EXTRAORDINARY STORY ONE CAN IMAGINE. I TOO COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. THERE ARE SO MANY INTERESTING CHARACTERS AND LOCATIONS AND THE BOOK IS SO WELL WRITTEN AND "CONSTRUCTED/DESIGNED," IT IS
SIMPLY AMAZING. I WON'T SAY MORE - GET IT, READ IT AND I THINK YOU WILL AGREE THAT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT. IF NOT, WRITE A REVIEW AND LET THOSE OF US WHO FEEL DIFFERENT KNOW WHY.

A book to make you think.

Sir Ranulph Twistleton Wickham Fiennes BT, OBE (and holder of the Polar Medal with Bar!) is undoubtedly the greatest living British explorer. He also served as an officer with the Special Air Service Regiment in the early seventies at a time when I was attached to that Regiment as a corporal in the Pay Office. We met briefly then and again in the late eighties when I was involved with Operation Raleigh. Though "Ran" - as he introduced himself on the latter occasion, has no reason to recall either meeting, I will always remember this man as someone with great presence who has come to symbolise great things and great achievements. In many ways he is the most British of men.

In his book "The Feather Men," the reader is left wondering whether or not it is a work of fact or fiction. It is an enthralling and exciting read and I am surprised it has not yet been made into a film.

Throughout the world there are certain "standards." For example, people might refer to a specific make of car, as that country's equivalent of a Rolls Royce. This is because Rolls Royce has become the standard for excellence in the making of cars. Similarly, when describing the world's Special Forces, they often refer to certain elite organisations as that country's equivalent of the SAS.

I had the privilege of serving with the SAS over 30 years ago but was never SAS trained. Ran Fiennes was and, therefore, knows what he is talking about. That is why you will be left wondering.

Altogether and excellent book.

Could not simply place the book down. Had me gripped from start to finish. Quite a lot to take in with various names being slung around the place early on but if you bare with this and keep concentrating it is greatly rewarded.
I had the pleasure to ask Sir Ranulph Fiennes whether the book was fact or fiction, he said that was up to the reader to decide and he would not say or comment.

I found this book easy to read and simple to follow. In chapter one, the authors cover eight "orienting assumptions" which I found to be useful for a new Hypnotherapist gathering perspective and various views, this one being Neo-Ericksonian. For example: While "pain is what motivates clients to seek therapy" (orientating assumption One) ..."The primary goal of therapy is the creation of comfort, pleasure, health, success and happiness, not the elimination of discomfort and pain" (Orienting Assumption Two). This book was useful to help one learn and polish some script writing skills. It is encouraging and straighforward.

Very pleased with Hypnotherapy Scrits 2nd edition. It gives all that is needed to enhance my job as a psychotherapist. Periodically a patient's needs go beyond our simple techniques. The benefits of hypnotherapy are clearly laid out. This book provides an appropriate script for each target need, without alot of filler. It also provides the nuts and bolts of Neo-Ericksonian communication; The benefits of Diagnostic Trance process; The use of building the unconscious self healing resources of each patient; Of speaking in a calming, reassuring, inspiring, and captivating manner. It also inspires and encourages the therapist in the use of this communication. "Allowed to examine and respond to their discomfort in a relaxed state of mind, they may automatically discover how to become comfortable instead."

Inside Camp-X As a young boy who moved to Canada in the late 60s, I actually snuck into Camp X before it was turned over to the Fire department for controlled burns, what a historical tragedy! I had no idea of the significance of this historical site until reading Inside Camp X! This is a fascinating book about the little know realm of Secret Agents. To think that Ian Fleming trained there which led to one of the most incredible movie series of all time, James Bond, is incredible history for Canada! In fact, I was so enthralled with the character of James Bond; I named my son after the greatest actor to play the roll! And now Sean is serving in Afghanistan with US Army Intelligence - - go figure! There is so much more to Camp X than most people know! Alumni went on to become directors of the FBI, and one of its alumni went on to be one of the founders of the Green Berets! Anyone with an interest in Intelligence, espionage, and elite military operations must read this book, it all started here! All of Lynn's books are wonderful reading and I highly recommend them!

From the moment I started reading this book I couldn't put it down until it was finished. This has to be one of the most incredible covert operations of WW2. From Sir William Stephenson's start-up operations to the closing at the end of the war, it takes the reader through the intense training, discipline, and secretive world of intelligence. And all this took place right in the Whitby/Oshawa area. Until I read this book I was totally unaware of how intriguing and historical this area was. Thank you for a well written, well researched and highly informative book.

CAMP X
The true story of what went on behind the fences of
STS - 103 (Camp - X) This top secret World War II
Secret Agent Training School was strategically placed
in Canada on the shores of Lake Ontario.

As outlined in his biography The Life of Ian Fleming written by John Pearson after
the war, Fleming was required to take the same training as the Camp - X Agents
in order to realize the effect of the process and to have a better appreciation for
what the Agents endured. On one occasion, he was sent inside with orders to
shoot and kill the man he would find hiding in an upstairs bedroom.

Unbeknownst to Fleming, his intended target was in fact the Chief Instructor of
Camp - X, Major William Ewart Fairbairn, a man who, it was fabled, was so good
at his trade that he could dodge bullets! Pearson quotes William Stephenson,
Head of the British Security Co-ordination, as having said, "It was a test of nerve....
a test to decide whether he (the Agent) really was ruthless enough to kill a man
when it came down to it." According to the account, Fleming waited outside the
room for a time, then went away. "You know, I couldn't really kill a man that way."
Stephenson said Fleming apologized later. Fleming drew from this and his other
experiences with Agents from Camp - X to write his famous 'James Bond' novels.

I love all of Barbara Parks books about Junie B. Jones. I think they should make a movie of this book. I think this is the funniest of all the Junie B.books. If you have a little girl who loves to read or be read to, I cannot recommend all of the Junie B. books enough.

A very loquacious first grader with a vocabulary far beyond her age

Review Date: 2007-06-05
After more than 25 books, Barbara Park's series about a very loquacious first grader with a vocabulary far beyond her age (and the writing ability to go with it) is still going strong. So I suspended my disbelief and read JUNIE B., FIRST GRADER: DUMB BUNNY to my six-year-old.

In this adventure, the rich girl in class, Lucille, invites everyone over to her mansion to participate in an over-the-top Easter Egg Hunt that will result in a play date in Lucille's heated indoor swimming pool. Lucille wants her boyfriend Sheldon to win, but Junie B. and her arch-nemesis May (the original "dumb bunny" in the title until Junie B. gets something of a comeuppance later on) are ready to pounce, pound and scrabble their opponents in order to get a dip in that grand pool.

There is a lot of falling down and Batman-type expletives (WHOOSH! SMASH!), and the kids are none too nice to each other until Junie B., in a sudden acknowledgment of good judgment, makes a quick and well-appreciated sacrifice to save the day. We laughed at some of the pratfalls, and Lucille's annoyed Nanna character was amusing as well. Junie B. shares the stage with a lot of different people, but she is clearly the star of the show, the story told from her point of view.

Whether humiliated in a pink bunny suit or gloating over her lack of selfishness, Junie B. thinks in capital letters with lots of exclamation points and writes in her journal about what she has learned. The journal entries are cute and engaging, and spell out the moral of the story without being too pointed, which we appreciated.

If this is your first Junie B. foray, it might be helpful to go back and read some of the earlier books first to relax into her strange environment. Otherwise, DUMB BUNNY certainly will offer fans of the series more of what they have come to expect from this little girl and her friends.

I'm in awe I think. I've never read anything like this book. And I have read other channelled books. I really can't make up my mind about it's validity. A very thought provoking book and it makes me want to read more. This is the first of the Kryon Books and I'm glad I read the THE PARABLES OF KRYON first, because it was so good I immediately ordered this first in the series. I've really got to think about this one. But I do recommend it highly. Just be ready for new material. I've already ordered the second in the series which is supposed to answer the questions raised in the first book. Wish me luck.

I did a review for the second book as well so I'll just add some different stuff here. I am very open minded (and open hearted which I think is more important) and found an underlying theme in the four books I read that did not feel right to me. You can read the material and just sense how it makes you feel. Some of the reviews make it sound like if you don't read it or if you find any issue with the material then you're a limited person. That's not the case at all! Just because something is channelled "from the other side of the veil" doesn't mean it's totally kosher. We exist on the other side of the veil too and we are all surrounded by beings all the time. It's up to us to determine what we want to integrate into this lifetime and what we don't. Trust your intuition with any material you read or listen to, your higher self knows what's what.

Although this book was first published in 1992, the information presented here is more relevant now than ever. Kryon will give the reader knowledge about Karma, meditation, Jesus Christ and the times we are living. With the premise that we all came here on our own will, to learn and progress, Kryon leads the way on the transformation we crave in this new millenium. He will help you contact your guides and accelerate you spirituial growth, if that is what you relly want.
If you are a metaphysician or are into self growth, you will find that the easy, yet warm language and teaching of Kryon apply to your life.

This book is a great reference text for anyone who treats low back injuries and works to create lumbar core stabilization. Following the work of Janda and others, McGill has taken core stabilization to the next level. His research based approach is 100% applicable and easy to follow. He presents the science of how the body works and this is great. McGill, also being a Ph.D., does not have a medical, chiropractic, or other bias...he presents things as he finds them through studies. This is a great book and well worth every penny...

For those in the fitness field, I recommend the Ultimate Back Fitness book...very applicable and easier to follow...

Some other reviewers have (directly or indirectly) made it clear that this book is primarily for researchers, doctors, and other health-care professionals, but I would like to re-state this as clearly and emphatically as possible, as some buyers may be seriously misled by claims (not made by the author!) that it is "a book that can be read by almost everyone" or one that "every patient suffering from low back pain should read". Only Part 3 (about specific exercises to do and not do) fits that description. Parts 1 and 2 are highly technical and addressed almost entirely to physicians and academic researchers. For someone without a good working knowledge of anatomy (that's me, in case you think I'm being condescending to the ignorant masses), these parts of the book are impossible to follow. My advice to the sufferer from low-back pain (again, that's me) would be to get the book from a library and concentrate entirely on part 3.

This book not only tells you what to do to heal your back, it tells you why with exceptionally thorough evidence using test results, photos, measurements, and statistics. It's pretty intense for the lay reader. Hopefully Dr. McGill will come out with a book for the lay reader and dispel a lot of myths about back health and unhealthy ab exercises that are advertised every day on TV.

This book is fantastic. I wish I could thank Dr. McGill personally for this well-researched, well-founded book on rehabilitating the lower back. This book should be required reading for low back pain patients and their care givers. After reading the book, I was able to relieve a tremendous amount of back pain through very careful application of the ideas. It also helped me understand why my symptoms seemed to be aggravated by physical therapy. If you suffer from lower back pain, this is a great way to take better control of your therapy. The "evidence-based" nature of the book makes it invaluable.

Review Date: 2008-04-14
Clinicians who wish to competently evaluate, manage, and rehabilitate low back disorders will find this book indispensable due to its unique content. While other texts cover topics related to examination, differential diagnosis, or specific therapeutics, this text focuses on a thorough, component-by-component research-based review of each part of the human lumbopelvic region for the purpose of providing a comprehensive understanding of how the low back truly functions, how to credibly evaluate its function, and how to properly restore as much normal function as possible. Sufficiently detailed for scholars, yet understandable by virtually anyone, Dr. McGill uses a practical, evidence-based dialogue with the reader to address issues which I have rarely seen adequately addressed by anyone. Just what is the true function of the iliopsoas muscle in relation to the low back? And is there really such a thing as an iliopsoas muscle? And how would one properly rehabilitate a weakened rectus abdomonis muscle, without potentially aggravating a low back disorder? And why is this necessary? And is it possible that many of the exercises currently prescribed for chronic low back pain are actually detrimental to the spine, and why? These are but a few of the many important and practical topics that are covered within this book. Frankly, I don't believe anyone can competently care for low back conditions of any kind without this valuable information. I consider this book a valued and essential part of my professional library.

I have found most books concerning "foreigners" or "foreigners running businesses" in Japan to be either overly pedagogical, overly repetitive, or downright depressing. Kudos to Carl Kay, Tim Clark and the editors. They have done a marvelous job putting together a fast-paced book, rich with facts and unique insights on real "gaijin" success stories. And, it's not about the typical white, Anglo-Saxon corporate raider from New York City. We hear feel-good stories of Chinese and Indian entrepreneurs, too. I couldn't put the book down. Order it now and you'll end up recommending it to your friends, as I have.

The authors accurately portrayed how foreigners living in Japan can become successful entrepreneurs and address the country's unmet needs in financial, real estate, IT and health care services. Shortcomings in the market have been corrected by persistent foreigners who don't take "no" for an answer.

Although this 2005 book was intended for non-Japanese readers, it contained so much insight (which was not available in Japanese publications) that it had to be translated into Japanese.

A Big YES to Saying Yes to Japan

In the 1980s, Japan was seen as an unstoppable economic juggernaut, a tsunami that would wash over the entire world. Then, suddenly, everything went wrong. Japan went through a decade of correction for its sudden rise. China and India stepped up on the stage as Japan faded into the background. An entire sub-industry of knowledge - that of the so-called "Japan expert" - has mostly disappeared. The general consensus seems to be that Japan rose rapidly, stumbled, and is now quickly on its way back to global irrelevance.

But then Carl Kay and Tim Clark produced this small book. It essentially says, "wait a second, there's a lot of opportunity in Japan. In fact, now might be a better time than ever!" It is a message that is absolutely correct, and one that the outside world still seems to be ignoring. Outsiders seem to get caught up on the macro issues in Japan; the aging and shrinking population, the looming national debt, the general national malaise, the long and prestigious list of foreign multinationals that have gone to Japan and failed. What Carl and Tim's book advises us to do is to understand and embrace what is still there. Japan is still the world's second largest economy in nominal terms. Even after the "lost decade," Japan's economy is still larger than China's and India's combined. There is a shortage of workers, and a shortage of new ideas. Japan doesn't need foreign multinationals to come in and swallow up her domestic companies. Japan needs entrepreneurs! Japan needs thinkers and builders! And unlike China or India, foreign entrepreneurs won't face hundreds or thousands of domestic entrepreneurial competitors.

Carl Kay and Tim Clark interviewed dozens of entrepreneurs in Japan, many foreign born, some Japanese, all of whom succeeded because they "thought different." It is a testament to Carl and Tim's skills as writers that each story is clear, engrossing, and illustrative. It is the best book on Japanese business or economics I have read in at least two decades. Read this book, become inspired, then move to Japan and make your dream reality.

As a layman who is neither well versed in Japanese business practices nor inordinately interested in Japanese culture, I found this book to provide fascinating insights into Japanese culture. The book is easily accessible for the non-MBA type and for those who are not intimately associated with the nuances of Japanese culture. Very interesting read and I would highly recommend it.

Some Good Ideas in a Cheap Book

This book is good value for money. In accepting the end of Japan Inc, it shows how and where opportunities are opening up in a range of service related areas from healthcare to shopping malls. The economics behind the book is that Japan neglected services and frills when it was playing economic catch up with the West. The business potential stemming from that is immense; while the Japanese excelled at making electronic gadgets, they lagged in a range of other areas. Instead of clobbering us over the head with a dense academic treatise, the authors give us plenty of examples where huge gaps in the market are creating lucrative market niches for a range of foreign players. If you are interested in running a service business in Japan, this small book will give you quite a few hints and a lot of hope. Definitely worth a read: so much so that I gave my copy away to some fashion designers who are making headway here.

The message Yehudah Fine brings to parents and teens in his book is that even when a teenager's life is in crisis, caring can produce profound transformation. The author's unique street experiences opened up a window into the world of disconnected teens. Fine's message should resonate in every home.

Every parent should read this!

"Religion is for people who wish to avoid going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have been there." So wrote Abraham Twerski, founder of Gateway Rehabilitation Center, in his cover blub for Yehudah Fine's book, "Time Square Rabbi." Rabbi Fine (who prefers to be called "Yehudah") has that rare balance of religion and spirituality, combined with a down-to-earth love of sports, music, and life itself, that enables him to reach lost teenagers on the mean streets of New York.

His writing style is clear and poignant, combining good descriptive details with well-written dialogues. Each story illustrates one of the 8 steps in a recovery program that Yehudah has developed, based on the writings of Maimonides. Although the characters and stories are composites (to protect the kids' privacy), they are so well done that they virtually leap off the page.

Every parent should read this book. Yehudah pulls no punches about how these kids ended up on the streets. For many, it was an escape from unbearable home situations. In other cases, the parents kicked their kids out of the house with no idea what would happen to them out there. In still other cases, kids from "good homes" set out with high hopes and unrealistic fantasies, only to be victimized by the predators that roam "The Way Beyond." That's Yehudah's name for the street culture that exists in the same physical space as up-scale Manhattan, but in a different world entirely. Like real life, some of these stories have happy endings, others do not. But all of them will make you think. As the subtitle says, this is a book about finding hope.

Had I not fallen, I would not have risen
had I not sat in darkness,
God would not have been a light for me.
~Midrash Tehillim Socher Tov, Psalm 5

Yehudah Fine is The Times Square Rabbi who can now be found spreading his message of hope on radio shows and in nationwide seminars. He works as a family therapist and lecturer and continues to share his wisdom with parents and teens across the country.

Finding the Hope in Lost Kids' Lives is the story of eight kids involved in the street culture in New York City's Times Square. Through the example of eight lives, he explores eight steps towards spiritual renewal. These stories can be read by anyone to encourage their own awakening and to give a pathway to hope for anyone trying to climb out of their own painful situation.

"While change at a profound level is rare on the street, nevertheless it does happen. And when you witness such a change, first was darkness and then came the light." ~pg. 4

You don't need to live on the street to hit an all time low in your life but the gritty lifestyles these kids lead exposes them to a world of danger and vulnerability. The first step in this book begins when the pain of life has become unbearable. An analysis of action follows along with a renewal in self-esteem. As the stories progress we witness a separation from an old way of living in order to embrace a new life. There are sad and happy endings, but all have a profound message of love and compassion.

I never thought I would read a heart pounding thriller based on a real life rabbi and gripping inspirational tales from the street. Want to learn about life after midnight in NYC, then read this book.It reads like a novel and yet is a true tale of NYC street life. Why this book is not a bestseller is beyond me. This is a powerful book that features true to life stories of teens caught in the web of drugs, prostitution, family violence and world that does not care. In that world walks Yehudah Fine, a real time hero whose human side is so real and vivid you feel after reading the stories in his book that you know him and the kids who he loves and cares about. This is a one of a kind read that will give you hope springing from the darkness forever. It will inspire you and make you cry.
