He hears us and He loves us!Review Date: 2008-04-28
The theme of this book, "Trust in the Lord," by Deen Kemsley, is the journey to know Christ; it is the journey to know the deepest, best element of ourselves. If we embrace this divine element within us by genuinely believing in Christ, we experience the wonder of being born of God, and we discover that Christ's power to heal is deeper than our deepest pain.
As Christ transforms us, He instills in us the genuine concern for others and the desire to serve and sacrifice without regard for worldly praise or reward. If Christ were merely an effective teacher, He couldn't evoke such enduring praise -- this is a witness of the literal Son of God.
We may not always receive specific answers to the questions we pose, but if we listen carefully we will receive a deeper answer -- Christ is in the Eternity overhead; Christ is in the eyes and faces of our young children; Christ is in the tears and joy of these whom He transforms; and Christ is deep within our hearts. "God is there, He hears our prayers, and He loves us."
Often it's in the common bond of Christ that we most clearly perceive our common eternal inheritance. "As we step out of the mire and temptations of this world and begin to ascend the mount of the Lord unto the tabernacle of Eternity that is within our hearts, we will find the true Holy of Holies -- Jesus Christ Himself. No matter how far we may have strayed from Him over time. We will learn He has always been there on the look out waiting for us to return.
"Trust in the Lord" takes you through a true spiritual journey of what it means to truly depend on the Lord our Savior as He Himself trusted in His own Holy Father during His walk as one of us. You learn the way to handle loneliness. Discover answers to the many tough questions we all have or have had. But, most importantly you learn true faith and that no matter what "He hears us and He loves us!"
Because of this book I can feel my Savior's Direction.Review Date: 2008-03-04

Reflecting the LordReview Date: 2008-05-10
Meditating upon the joys and disappointments of his own life, Kemsley points to the subtle ways in which God moves in all our lives that are often only noticed in retrospect. While there may not be an empirical demonstration of God's existence that would satisfy the doubts of skeptics, this is less a reason to abandon God than a reason to understand the limitations of our methodologies. God may not answer prayer in a loud roar nor the way we want but He does hear and He does answer. Moreover, He does love us.
The meditations cotained in Trust in the Lord are rich and one may find wisdon in reapeated readings that did not seem apparent at first glance. In this beautifully written and faith-filled little book we do indeed see the love of Christ reflected.
Meditations for Reflection, Redemption, and ReleaseReview Date: 2008-03-10
Kemsley invites the reader to recognize the Savior at the cross to receive a fresh vision of who Jesus is. He draws from his own experiences and those of others as he speaks about the underlying foundation of the Christian faith as the undeserved, limitless miracle of the love of God demonstrated on the Cross of Calvary. He shows how this love produces joy in circumstances of tribulation, suffering, and persecution. These poignant illustrations draw the reader into an eager search for a fresh encounter with the Lord Jesus.
I experienced a personal call to revival, to recognize my own helplessness without the hope redemption provided through the cross. I am eager to sense the enrichment of God's presence in my life as he works to produce wholeness.
"Trust in the Lord" is for those hungry to contemplate and reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and His great love, to see fullness replace emptiness and harmony replace loneliness. The book offers the readers freshness in purity as motivation for their actions in their search to fulfill their deepest, truest potential.

A Private Chef: Four Star Cooking in Your Home by Joe O.Review Date: 2003-08-05
Absolutely lusciousReview Date: 2003-07-23
I just love this book. Though I will never make some of the more extravagant dishes, I've made at least a dozen of these recipes, and every one has been, in the Brits' sense of the term, well brilliant.
And the writing: The author's personality shines through, and I don't know how anyone can help liking this guy. How can anyone who moves in such highfallutin' circles, someone who has trained in some of the finest restaurants in the world--and still drops in as a guest chef--be so down-to-earth and likeable? Amazing. He thanks a "ghost editor" in his preface, but the voice is of a piece with the author's whole approach to food.
Whether or not you have any interest in becoming a four star chef in general, you will find some recipes here that you'll love, that you can serve with pride and joy on special occasions.
Besides, the book is just great "food porn." Sometimes I just read the thing and salivate over the beautiful dishes.
I must own at least three dozen cookbooks, and this is probably the most fun of them all. I can heartily say that if you really love food, you ought to buy this book.

After reading Joe's book, I began to understand that you have to have a love of food and people to accomplish what he does. He is a true artist at work.
Enjoyed the stories of where the recipes originated.
Your dinner guests will love you...Review Date: 2003-08-27
First, Joe has designed meals. Traditionally in other cookbooks, we find a main entree that sounds delicious, but then are left searching for the appetizers, side dishes, and desserts to compliment the dish. Joe has taken this confusion out of the equation. Each element of the meal compliments one another. Furthermore, Joe's meals range from extravagant to casual. Whether you want to throw an intimate dinner for four or a late Sunday brunch for 12, Joe offers wonderful ideas. Additionally, once you have chosen your meal, Joe helps you organize: his "Menu Progression" gives step-by-step instructions for preparation. He explains what you need to do a week before, a day before, hours before, and during the meal. It's fantastic.
This book is also a great reference. Joe explains some of the chemistry behind cooking, including an explanation of the differences between salts and why it is important to use cold water when brewing coffee. He also gives Internet resources for buying kitchen supplies, spices, and even meat.
Finally, I enjoy reading this book. Accompanying each menu is a personal story. It is clear that Joe is passionate about "haute cuisine" and believes everyone has the ability to find their own passion in the kitchen. This book is inspiring and should be in every home cook's library.

A True American PioneerReview Date: 2006-01-09
Sidney Pike apparently never heard of the words, "It can't be done," although there are certainly plenty of folk around shouting them in his ear. His task brings him to confront domestic and global communications bureaucracies and powerful political leaders around the world. Some suffer from such shortsightedness and ignorance that they cannot even comprehend the concept. Others comprehend it only too well, fearing the threat to their own vise-like grip on information. To accomplish the mission, he crisscrosses the globe many times, coming to feel that "home" is a Boeing 747. (He probably has enough Frequent Flyer miles to actually take up permanent residence in one.) From China to Bahrain, Argentina to Moscow, Iraq to Canada, Aruba to New Zealand, bit by bit, the International network grows, as Pike cajoles, explains, and hammers out agreements that inch the project forward. (The case of establishing the link in Guam is in itself a cheering vindication of the American yearning for the triumph of the underdog!)
In every case, Pike gives credit where it is due and pulls no punches about naming names where a hard punch in the nose is more appropriate ("Ted Turner is the worst deal maker I have ever known.") Even when the player is himself, Pike lays it down straight. On several occasions, his relation of a disagreement ends with "They fired me." His personal integrity and genuine belief in the value of this mission allow him to do no less. This sense of mission never intrudes into the narrative, but patently fuels the endeavor: a core belief in the power of free information exchange to ensure the viability of democracy. He's right, of course. For some portions of the world, the easy access to information that most of us take for granted is as dangerous to despotic power as an ICBM.
The saga is thrilling as a narrative alone, but sprinkled throughout are fascinating insights into the workings of the global communications industry, the inner wrangles of Ted Turner's corporate empire, and the arcana of trying to establish a new mindset for a twenty-first century world. Beyond that, it is both inspiration and proof-positive that "it" can, indeed, be done.

Good, but nothing newReview Date: 2001-02-13
Included in this book are the many good recipes expected in such a volume, plus a series of nutritional essays about the role of juicing in a healthy lifestyle. Cherie Calbom also provides descriptions and guidelines for several different types of diets, from weightloss to gallbladder cleansing.
If this is your first book on juicing, this book is excellent. If this is your fifth, its a handy one to have. If this book is your tenth on the subject, then you likely have much of this information already.
All things considered, this is a quality book at a great price, and a welcomed addition to any juicing library.

Rather greed and misinformation evidenced so strongly in recent events are calculated to cause anxiety and feelings of helplessness.
Glenn Beck is a breath of fresh air blowing across a tortured landscape.
Entertaining, not terribly deepReview Date: 2008-06-24
Glenn starts out with a bang with his anti-Al Gore chapter and it is strong. In the middle he gets off track with chapters like the one about chick flcks and guy movies, blind dates and the one about aging (I fail to see how wearing a toupee or not is one of the world's biggest problems). His constant cheap shots on overweight people is not endearing, either.
However, his chapters on the United Nations, political correctness, college education and the minimum wage are all very strong.
He ends up with his pet theory that America is being led towards a Mexican-American-Canadian united country. He discusses this from time to time on his show. He makes a weak case in his book and it is a dud of a chapter to end with.
Not having footnotes, endnotes or any other sort of citation system for Beck's facts weakens the overall value of the book as well. Too bad, that's just laziness.
3 and 1/2 stars.
