I was very hesitant in buying another book. For some reason, I thought this was just another one of those "self-help" books and who needs more of those? Well, this book is quite different. It's a necessity...it's life changing. Once you begin to read it, you can't put it down. I am not a big reader, but I read it in 1 week. I immediately started applying the things that I learned and I am telling you, this stuff works. I would challenge anyone who is going through a difficult time and who needs a wake-up call in life to read Florence Scovel. One you begin to change your words and your thoughts, your entire world begins to change...and IMMEDIATELY!

By chance I recently rode a Philadelphia trolley that I hadn't in years and I came across someone who was reading this book at the the same time I was. It was wonderful to see someone else get the blessings from this book as I was.
For those who pay attention this book is not just a feel good book with trite ideas. Although this book does speak of visualizing your success it goes further and lets you know that action is required in your faith and that is what I love about this book. It basically tells you how to retrain your thinking so you can move forward toward a path of peace.
While Florence uses many references in the bible this can be utilized by someone of any faith or lack thereof. As a muslim, this book actually helped me with how I look at what I already believe with a new sense of wonder and enlightenment.

The Wisdom of Florence Scovel Shinn
This is an incredible book of thought. It transcends the writing of "The Secret'. It is a more direct and useful blueprint to living, loving and achieving your dreams. I gave this book to all my friends for Christmas a total of 20 copies. I would recommend these writing by Florence Scovel Shinn to anyone who has searched for an answer to many of life's questions only to find a paltry sentence here and there. It is not an easily read book as she presents many situations which will prompt you to stop and think deeply as it applies to you. A definite must for all personal libraries.

This is a LIFE CHANGING book. I bought it a couple years ago and as most people have already said, I continue to re-read it whenever I feel myself slipping. I have encouraged MANY to read this book.

This lady is the real deal and had this idea LONG before The Secret. More importantly, she remembers that it's all in God's control and sometimes no matter what you focus on, it's just not for you ... but maybe there's something better in store.

You have NOTHING to lose by reading this book ... only everything to gain. My new outlook on life "The supply is there before the demand". I want for nothing, everything I need is already there for me!!!

One Great Way For Daily Bible Reading

I first started reading The Daily Bible over 15 yeards ago and I continue to do so today. I can think of no better version to use as a daily bible. Being arranged chronologically, gives a better understanding of the history of God's dealing with mankind. In addition, reading the various writings in their historical context is a great aid to understanding why these inspired men wrote what they did. I keep several copies of The Daily Bible on hand and give them to those who I meet that are sincere students of God's word.

I purchased this Chronological Bible (NIV) several years ago based on the recommendation of a friend at church. I had tried several times reading through the Bible based on a reading schedule, but never completed the Bible until I received this easy to read chronological Bible.

Wow! It was life changing as I had never read through the Bible. This Bible gives a brief summary of what you'll be reading each day which is an excellent way to begin reading by reinforcing God's word. I've now read through it 3 times and each time, I learn new things about God and his son, Jesus Christ. If you've never read through the Bible, this is the best Bible as it puts the Bible in chronological order which makes so much sense! Enjoy. You won't regret this purchase. It will change your life.

This is a great Bible to read in one year. This is the first time I have read the Bible in a year and all the way through. I found that in reading THE Book this way, one could grasp God's message to us all, His plan's and why and how everyone fit's into HIS-STORY. I mean everyone who has lived, is living and will live. I "got" the whole picture of life in a wonderful, profound way reading this book. Mr Smith's insights were very thoughtful and helpful. Everyone should read this Bible. I am giving it as gifts for Christmas.

I always felt that the Bible was confusing and contradictory. Then my mother bought this Bible for me. It was one of the last things she gave me before her death, and one of the best presents she gave me. When you put things in chronological order, suddenly everything becomes clear. Things that seemed contradictory, because they were juxtaposed against other unrelated issues, are suddenly put in context where they make sense. All of a sudden, the Bible seems all of a piece: one story from beginning to end. It no longer seems like an unrelated jumble of Jewish culture, outdated laws, confusing prophesies overseen by a mysterious God. It becomes the story of how God redeems mankind from its own selfishness. It all fits together. You can suddenly see the plan and the love that runs through it all. If you really want to understand God, this is the Bible for you. Just don't take it along anywhere that you need to flip through to a specific reference, it'll drive you nuts.

Have you ever encountered a book for young readers so good that it gave you goose bumps? This is such a book.

Told through the viewpoint of a twelve-year-old Jewish immigrant from Russia living on the Lower East Side of New York City, we see the very real struggle of people who came to America to find a new life, but struggle over giving up the old. Despite the fact that this is a fictionalized diary, the author provides us with an intimate look into the sometimes painful personal experiences that make up our history as a whole.

No matter what your own family's history might be, we can learn from the experience of Lasky's incredible characters.

Dreams in the Golden Country: The Diary of Zipporah Feldman, a Jewish Immigrant Girl, New York City, 1903 (Dear America) is a book to be savored and cherished.

Life's Roads as a Jewish Girl

Zipporah Feldman (Zippy) comes to America with her Jewish family. They came from Zarichka. This book was the diary of Zipporah. After coming to America they all have found some sort of dream in this new country. What was it about America that makes you like this, having big hopes and dreams. Her beloved sister has gone away with the guy she loves, who is not a Jewish boy. Mama gets mad ands pretends top mourn over her daughter like she is dead. The family has fallen apart. Zippy is sad. Something happened to one of her friends. She wants to fly an airplane like the first two brothers did. Or be an actress. She had dreams to look up to.

I really liked this book. Because it was a diary. It was interesting and I liked it a lot. Because she wrote in it almost all the time, it was like a story of her life. Another good diary book that I enjoyed was The Diary of Patrick Seamus Flaherty. I like diary books because they are like a life story and very interesting. These books are different diary's and people. But both are excellent books to read!

Have you ever wondered how long and painful a trip across the Atlantic, would be? Leaving your home, your customs, your whole life, all left in the waves. In the book, Dreams in a Golden Country by Kathryn Lasky, a girl named Zipporah Feldman, mostly known as Zippy struggles to adjust to the American way of life. Zippy would not even have had to come to America, but in her small town in Russia Jews were being persecuted. Zippy has a father who decided to come to America first, who is becoming more American everyday. Zippy has a mother who refuses to leave her old ways, and two sisters, one named Tovah who is obsessed with politics, and the other, Miriam who falls in love with a Catholic firefighter. Zippy has to start in 1st grade, since she had never gone to an American school before, but she eventually gets to the grade she should be in. Zippy is the only family member who was allowed to go to school. I like this book because you get to see the easy and difficult times in an immigrant girl's life during the 1800's. I recommend this book to someone who like stories in diary entry form.

Zippoah is a jewish girl coming to America to meet her Father in New York City. They come to New York City from A small village in Russia. They come for a new life away from all the attacks that are going on in Russia. Zipporah starts a diary of what is going on in the new country she is in. SHe Starts school, Makes firends, and new ideas come to her family that they would have never dreamed of thinking about in Russia. Some thoughts are good & some are bad & some frighten her mother. Tovah is a more seriouse and political person she is also the oldest of the three. Mariam is a very romantic girl, she is the middle child. Mariam ends up falling in love with a cathlic boy and her mother is furious when she finds out that they got secretly married. In Zipporah, or Zippy as her firends call her, has to learn how to read & write in english. What a wonderful way to read the Bible...complete with background sound effects. I thought the price was a bit steep...until I actually started using it. The Bible actually comes alive! Greatly enhances my regular Bible study.

Overall, I enjoyed it. The actors did a great job on making the scriptures come to life. The background special effects were an added benefit; Ie., children laughing or lions roaring. Of course, since I am more familiar with the NKJV, I would have chosen that version if I had the choice. I found the comparison interesting and it encouraged me to go back to the bible to compare the familiar scripture with what I had heard. I must admit I was distracted at times when I was more focused on trying to identify the voice of the actor instead of the word. Occassional the chosen actor did not match the character. For example, a young man reading the part of an old man. The only thing that I really did not like were the songs that were added. In the midst of scripture reading, a song would burst forth, Ahhhh. This should have been a separate CD. I found this very distracting and inappropiate. I wanted to hear scriptures, not songs.

Other reviewers have stated that this product brings the Bible to life. I agree. When I used the NIV as my printed translation of choice (1991-2008), I listened to Zondervan's excellent "Dramatised NIV" (ISBN 9780310918639) - a quality Audio Bible in its own right. But enormous effort and dedication has gone into producing the Bible Experience. The voices, background music & special effects all kick ass. Acts 5:23 sounds like a line from a rap-song; u can picture the narrator wearing shades and a baseball cap, ya know what am sayin'? What a refreshing, original way to narrate the Bible! There's also a bonus DVD, which is interesting. The 80-CD set is presented in Zondervan's usual, tastefully designed zip-up case.

The voices, special effects, etc. are so good that I would name this the "Crème de la Crème" of audio Bibles were it not for 5 irritating flaws...

1. The chapter number should be announced at the beginning of each track.

2. Both Testaments should have used the same voice for God the Father.

3. The voicing of 1 & 2 Thessalonians is a disaster; Having a male Paul and a female Paul is confusing, inappropriate and unnecessary. This alone cost my review a star (and nearly 2!).

4. Hebrews may possibly have been written by a couple yet there's at least 3 voices employed here, which is confusing. Most likely the epistle was written by a woman (see ISBN 9781882897506 & its reviews) so the same female voice for all 13 chapters would have worked far better.

5. The songs should appear on separate "bonus" CDs. I bought 16 blank CDs and re-recorded the NT omitting both the songs AND the Theme (which appears twice on each CD in the original). It's well worth the few hours of effort; I can now enjoy the entire NT from Matthew 1 to Revelation 22 without interruption.

Notwithstanding the above irritants, if you use TNIV as your printed translation of choice then this is probably the best audio version of it on the market.

THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My title review is SO!!!! true. Although this book does put ALOT of pressure on Amy it's the best EVER!!!!. Romantically speaking Amy,Ty,Ben and Soraya were all invited to the Grant's every year christmas party that is the most popular.Ashley Grant only invites them because she likes Ben and because she knows that Ben won't go without them.During that party Matt tries to make a move on Amy since he likes her but she automatically backs off and repeats the message that she only wants to be friends then AMY and Ty get alone on the dance floor and ty sends the message that he in turn likes Amy. At the end the second last page of that lovely book is when finally ty KISSES amy and she is so shocked and confused because she has looked at him as a brother all her life and is afraid that the relationship they had before ty had feelings for her might change and so asks him to give her some more time. And also in other parts grandpa gets pneumonia and gets terribly sick and Lou travels to England in search of her father because of her desperate need to contact him.

I LOVE HEARTLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book was AWESOME!!! Ashley invites Matt, Soraya, Ben, Amy and Ty to her christmas party becuase Ashley likes Ben. Matt tries to have Amy as a girlfriend but Amy just wants to be friends. Jack gets sick and it's sad but he gets better. Lou went to England to find their dad. The part I loved the most was when Ty and Amy KISSED in the end. I read it over and over again. They do go out in other books(#10). They make a perfect couple!

I discovered this book series in dec. 04' I bought the vol. 1 edition(and saved tons of money by doing so I recomed doing that)and LOVED it I read all 3 of the books in vol.1 in 3 days!
If that gives you any idea of how additing it can be! It made me cry when pegaus died:( Well anyhow I bought vol. 2 just the other day and have now finished the book! "one day you'll know" is the best one yet! Now I know how the web sites say ages 8-12
well im 13 and I think it just a little bit to "invloved" with the kissing and all(which was really cool I read it over and over agin)for 8&9 year olds no offense to you at all. The party at the Grant's was one of the best parts esepally when Matt tryed to make a move on Amy but she said they were only friends. than Amy danced with Ty (who really hot on the cover! I dont see why amy didn't like him before!)and Matt got mad and started dating Ashley(that was mean!). Then Jack got sick and lue went to londen and Daybreak being stubern and got sick too!
the drama never ends! But thats why Im so hooked! and as a final note read this sereies from the begining even though every book fills you in you miss a lot of drama! This series sould never end well I dont want it to be like the throghbred books there bad and they just keep comen' there's like 82 of them! After you finish heartland I suggest you read the phamtom stallion books there good too! But heartland will alway be the best ever!!!!!!!!!!

Jim Randel has written an excellant book on commercial real estate. I only wished that I had read it earlier in my career, I might have chosen to be in commercial real estate instead of residential. His candor, ability to talk about his mistakes, and full stories of his successes and failures is a great read, and motivational in the fact that it shows you how hard work, and being creative can pay off.

A book with non-nonsense knowledge!

This is a great book for real estate investing--it's got the big picture and the nuts and bolts. As an amateur in the real estate market, who has an interest in a few rental condominiums in Florida, I found Randel's book an introduction to everything I didn't know and should have. He describes his own deals in detail so you can see all the angles, what works and what doesn't, when to buy and when to sell, how to manage properties to increase valuation and above all--how to make money. His methods are sophisticated, but his presentation makes them easy to understand. He makes it clear that real estate investment is not for the timid, but guides you with the principles you need to feel confident. Best of all, I'm a lot smarter than I was before, and with the market the way it is today, the timing couldn't be better.

An interesting perspective and worthwhile read

Confessions of a Real Estate Entrepreneur: What It Takes to Win in High-Stakes Commercial Real Estate At the urging of a friend, I attended one of Mr. Randel's seminars a year ago in the Washington D.C. area. I had just moved out of a career in the corporate arena (in banking, where I saw these types of transactions from the other side) and was looking to pursue other options for myself. I had read his first book a number of years ago and found it to be very informative. I found both his presentation and this book to be "top-notch" -- written to be understood, but not understated with respect to technical information and emphasizing qualities in the entrepreneur which are absolutely essential in order to be successful, such as: taking knowledgeable risks and knowing your customer -- hearing what they want in order to structure your deal to get it done. His examples are to the point and understandable -- and based on more than 25 years of valid, successful experience. It's impossible to argue with that! I highly recommend this book and look forward to hearing more from Mr. Randel in the future.

Written during the outbreak of the First World War in Russia, this book presents an interesting view of humanity in the context of the European war. One should take into account the propositions of Ouspensky's school of thought and see how relative they are in the context of our global 'war on terror'. Thus, the book stands the test of time and will continue to be discovered and re-discovered.

Rodney Collin's masterworks, THE THEORY OF CELESTIAL INFLUENCE and THE THEORY OF ETERNAL LIFE, credit Ouspensky with teaching Collin everything he knows. Since I've never read any other books with Collin's profound understanding, I'm prepared to believe anything Collin says about Ouspensky.

And certainly a number of Ouspensky's other students are a credit to his teaching.

Yet when I read IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS, it is so d-mned DRY! Or weird. Or both. Is it really going to help us self-remember to learn the elaborate succession of "hydrogens" into which food transforms in the course of digestion? And I'm the kind of guy that will get so involved in obsessing about this stuff that I will forget to actually eat!

Rumor has it that Gurdjieff, who was still alive when Ouspensky died (of lung cancer after a lifetime of chain smoking), endorsed the posthumous publication of IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS. Mr. G., what WERE you thinking? Your BEELZEBUB'S TALES is vastly more fun.

Maybe it just comes down to what Collin said, " ... all theory will remain theory for the reader until he has established or refuted it for himself on the basis of his own personal observation and experience." The funny thing is that I, personally, HAVE experienced much of what Ouspensky wrote in IN SEARCH OF THE MIRACULOUS, but only because I have turned away from Ouspensky's words.

Is that the point then, that Ouspensky makes things so dry that you HAVE to follow his advice that "You must abandon the system"?

Great Introduction to the Esoteric Work

P.D. Ouspensky's "In Search of the Miraculous" is one of the most profound and one of most memorable books that I have ever read, and it is most certainly the must-read. Not only that, it also forces one to question one's reality, self-identity, actions, and surroundings. With each time that I read this book, I began to notice the number of little false "i's" that popped up in my being. Every little lies that I ever believed were being exposed. And, my understanding of the world that we are living in has changed in such an enormous way and with such a powerful impact. This book certainly changed my perspectives of life and the understanding of who I am.

I would highly recommend "In Search of the Miraculous" as it is most insightful book of Gurdjieff's unique teachings ever written. It is clear written yet certainly tough to take in. It is also comprehensive on the profound theories as well methods of the mentioned teachings.

Reading this book is most certainly the first step towards being awake and becoming aware of oneself and one's surroundings. Before reading Gurdjieff's three books and any Fourth Way literature, "In Search of the Miraculous" is a great introduction to the unique concepts and the esoteric Work.

An extremely rare and excellent work

One of the biggest secrets held from Mankind is the fact that our existence for eons is under the dominance and influence of a Dark force that controls EVERYTHING. And the most profound Knowledge that this Dark force hides from us is the knowledge of the existence of a parallel and entirely DIFFERENT kind of spirituality. So dangerous is this knowledge to this Dark force, that it has eraced, fragmented, obscurred, destroyed, and misrepresented all reference to it. The only way this knowledge could've survived, was through an oral tradition, moving it through time from mouth to ear, to the point where some of it could finally be put in print. This is a must-read to all true Seekers of truth, who are not simply looking for understanding, but a way out.

If anyone ever wondered what the various phrases in Psalm 23 really meant, this book explains them, one by one, from the perspective of a man who actually worked as a shepherd. I was in a Bible Study, and was given this little book which was a tremendous blessing and eye opener for this Psalm which I have quoted many many times during lengthy medical procedures and tests. I really treasure the explanations. Thanks Mr. Keller, for writing this book. You made this Psalm come literally alive in my heart and mind.

The shepherd's perspective on the 23rd Psalm expands the meaning far beyond the usual interpretations. The Psalm comes alive with such depth that you will never again read or hear these familiar words in the same way. Phillip Keller's narrative is entertaining, informative and inspiring.

Philip Keller was the son of missionaries in E. Africa. Later, a sheep owner and rancher. And finally a lay pastor. His life experiences provide the expertise needed to unearth the rare gems buried within Psalm 23. I highly recommend this book for women's groups looking to "lie down in green pastures" under the watchful eye of The Great Shepherd.

I have about 400 books in my library and Thinkertoys (with Thinkpak) is the best book I've read so far. The book is full with creative tools and puzzles to play with. The book comes to me at the right time since I am about to start my own business and the book provides a lot of insight, ideas and techniques. Thank you Mr. Michalko for creating the "toys".

I loved the CRACKING CREATIVITY while THINKERTOYS was simply too much good for me. Soo many (great) tools i simply got lost. I need a few mental models that i can work with daily which CRACKING CREATIVITY did provide. This book provides soo many tools ... it's not for daily usability, at least not for me.

Great book!

This is very interesting reading. It has a lot of facts that make you realize how much more you could be doing or how much better you could be thinking. I haven't done any writing, which is essential, but i've already put it to use in my daily life. If you want another perspective as for creaticity, this book is for you.

So I was reading one of the many great books by Jeffrey Gitomer. In his books about Sales and the one about Yes!Attitude, he stresses the importance of exercising the mind and being creative in your approach to relationships, both professional and personal.

And one of this top, oft repeated recommendations is Thinkertoys by Michael Michalko. It's clear within the first few pages that Michalko was challenging me to step out of my comfortable protective shell of assumptions about the world around me and see it in whole new ways.

The combination of Gitomer's motivation to master a positive attitude with Michalko's advice on creativity have transformed my life.

To check out one of Jeffrey Gitomer's book, consider Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude: How to Find, Build and Keep a YES! Attitude for a Lifetime of SUCCESS (Jeffrey Gitomer's Little Books)

The only thing that saddens me about this movie, aside from the heartbreaking climax of a brutal attack that you must simply see to savor, along with the fact that this priceless artifact never made it to the "Big Screen" was poor advertising.

If this movie had been properly advertised, I would have been PERFECT for it's time, making movies like "Making Love," "Parting Glances", and "'Broke Back Mountain"

Harvey Fierstein wrote, directed, and produced this Broadway adaption of his fine work from the stage, and brought to the big screen, SEAMLESSLY, although Harvey of course, in his adorable self-deprecating humour, denies it all, making his quiet private demeanor a stark contrast to his "Diva" like status as a performer.

It's just no use to even try to explain this movie, for I personally, PERSONALLY believe one must be a young gay male in this country to have been raised from the 50's to the early 70's, when homosexuality was a "sickness" that must be cured.

Shudder...

Don't EVEN get me started on that subject.

Later, I may go and edit this review, as I have many times, but alas, I have other things to do in my nonstop, hectic life. Dog to walk, couch pillows to rotate...you know how it is.

One of the best of the 80s

I can't tell you how much I love Torch Song Trilogy. I can honestly say I love this more than Brokeback Mountain. Now before anyone starts ragging on me, I'll tell you why. Trilogy shows that gay people are just as vulnerable to hurt, joy, and humanity as straight people. Fierstein's character isn't afraid to take on the world even when it is hostile and violent toward him. He displays strength and compassion and never loses his sense of humor, no matter how despairing and bleak it gets. Now don't get me wrong, I love BBM but Arnold Beckoff has strength and resilience in a way that Ennis Del Mar could only dream of. Mountain was a wonderful film but like all major gay love stories it always has to end tragically with the death of one of the characters. Trilogy showed that while Arnold experienced the loss of a loved one, he also fought and gained an old flame who finally came to his senses. It would be nice for mainstream gay themed films to have characters that are unafraid to take on the world and fight for that respect. Instead we get gay characters who are the subjects of ill humor or tragedies that make people think twice about falling in love. I can also add that this is one of the better films of the overblown 1980s (I also believe the 80s was probably one of the worst decades for movies).

I would call this Torch Song Tragedy, which is constituted by the actuality of the subject. In spite of all the time passed it still matches mainstream America's perception of gays.
I saw this movie many years ago and it moved me even today.

A quadruple all star cast topped off by Anne Bancroft and harvey fierstein. The story about a gay guy, whose Mom loves him, but wishes he wasn't. Harvey Fierstein's performance as gay Arnold gives a performance of a lifetime. He has never been better and will never be better.Being a gay female impersonator in New York confronts him with daily challenges, crisis', brief moments of happiness and loads of grief. This is a down to earth flick that tells the story, I'm a person and I deserve to live too. Once a Broadway play and now a film too good to miss

Harvey Fierstein - Genius

Ever since seeing him accept the Tony for his adaptation of "La Cage" I have had a tremendous admiration for the sheer creative genius of Harvey Fierstein. But "Torch song Trilogy" has got to be the icing on the cake; the cream on the top of Mt. Everest; the spark that set off Guy Fawlks Day on the 5th of November in London!

And as if the tale wasn't enough, that fantastic narration by Mr. Fierstein at the end of the film was just by far and away the best "special feature" I have ever had the pleasure of hearing! (Normally I avoid listening to a narrative over a movie I have only just watched!!)

And although I think the late and great Anne Bankroft was superb as the mother, I confess I would like to have seen Estelle Getty in the performance extolled by the author.

As a totally "square" viewer of this performance, I would hazzard a guess that in another 50 years or so "Torch Song" will have reached the level of film classics. The death scene of Matthew Broderick in the story was simply devastating!

For sheer entertainment and creative competence, my vote would have to go to Mr. Fierstein.
