solid programReview Date: 2004-04-12
This Program is a MUST for anyone with cancer! Review Date: 2004-08-16
My doctor recommended that I explore a method that focused on mind, body and spirit. I stumbled upon Steve's dvd series and was amazed at how it put me in a calm state almost immediately. The guided imagery sections were so soothing and relaxing that I felt completely at peace and any tension that I was holding was one. As a result I have not had any of the side effects that most people have with chemotherapy. The visual images are absolutely beautiful and vibrant. During one of the segments, I was convinced that the images leapt off of the screen and surrounded me with healing light. Everytime I watch the dvd, I am further empowered to be able to fight this disease.
My oncology staff at UCLA's Cancer Center acknowledge the effective support the mind/body connection have as an aide in fighting this disease and Steve had perfected the tried and true art of visualization. I have been asked to speak at an awards dinner for the American Cancer Society, in which we will honor 5 individuals who have made great strides in promoting cancer awareness and patient support and I will certainly speak well of Steve Murray's Cancer Guided Imagery programs.

The definitive music therapy resourceReview Date: 2007-12-15
Although an in-depth clinical resource, it also could convey clearly to the layperson what music therapy is all about. Additionally, the loving care these therapists put into their work with the clients comes across on every page.
Drawings, musical notations, extensive bibliographies and indexes all add to the usefulness of this book. Although published over 15 years ago, the material rings fresh, new and true all throughout. I can't say enough about this book!
As a music therapist in training, you might be required to buy this book, and I can tell you that you will not regret one penny you spend on it.
My only wish would be that they come out with more volumes of this wonderful resource and maybe an indestructible version, because mine is very well worn. This is one book I will never part with.
Excellent description of how music therapy is practicedReview Date: 1997-07-31
I am a music therapist, practicing now for about 6 years. I often refer to this book for new ideas for my practice. I also loan this book to any friend or colleague who really wants to know what music therapy is about.
The introduction itself is probably the best and most concise description of music therapy practice.
The case studies have been chosen for quality, depth, and maximum variety of technique and philosophy. One appendix contains an index which refers to the case studies by philosophical orientation, which I found both fascinating and useful.
The only possible change I might suggest would be to refer to page number rather than "case study number" in the index, which is a little confusing.
In all, a great reference and a fascinating, enlightening read. This book is one of the prizes of my bookshelf.

When you're looking for an alternative to superstore robberyReview Date: 2004-06-20
If you want an alternative to high-priced supermarket items, check here. If you want a food item with less sodium, sugar, etc., the recipes in this book can easily be adapted to your needs. For instance, I follow the instruction for Thousand Island dressing, but make substitutions and end up with a dressing which is fat-free and tastes delicious without the chemical aftertaste of mass-produced big name brands.
Of course, there's more to the book than food recipes. It's a great help when you need a cleaning product and can't get to a store or don't want to go. You can create your own with just a few ingredients you keep around the house.
It would be nice to see a new edition come out. I'm sure it would sell well.

Author's descriptionReview Date: 2004-04-11
But some of the most insidious threats to their well-being are those you can't see and may not even be aware of -- and that your kids are quite apt to be regularly exposed to at home, at play and at school.
Chemical-Free Kids is your guide to the whereabouts of these invisible dangers -- the toxic substances that permeate our food and environment -- as well as to strategies that can enable you to keep them from doing irreparable harm to your family.
In this highly informative yet reader-friendly book, you'll learn the identity and characteristics of the chemical culprits hiding in processed and conventionally-grown food, either in the form of poisonous residues left over from pesticide applications or as additives intended to preserve it or disguise its flavor and appearance. You'll also be given an overview of the health hazards to your children posed by all manner of household and garden products, from air fresheners to lawn sprays. You'll find out why government watchdogs have been so lax about regulating or banning these hazardous substances and what steps you can take to gradually eliminate them from your family's environment.
This book will also provide you with highly workable plans for introducing your kids to a healthier lifestyle, for making your child's school safe from toxic sprays, and for weaning your kids off junk food and winning them over to nutritious, unadulterated meals and snacks. It even offers dozens of recipes to help you detoxify your family's diet -- including some especially geared to kids with allergies to certain kinds of foods.
The wealth of essential information and advice you'll gain from reading "Chemical-Free Kids" includes:
* How you can phase out products that contain harmful additives and replace them with healthier ones -- including the ten best foods for children -- without disrupting your lifestyle.
* How detoxifying your child's diet can prevent or limit food allergies and sensitivities.
* Why artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame) should be avoided.
* How you can give your baby a priceless gift by limiting your exposure to toxic substances during pregnancy.
Non-toxic pest-control techniques, and other easy and convenient methods for maintaining a chemical-free home environment.
* How to avoid the life-threatening hazard posed by a deadly nerve gas in widespread domestic use as a "fumigant."
* The various reasons that organically grown foods are so important to your family's health.
* The twin menaces of lead and mercury exposure -- and how you can keep these extremely toxic and nerve-damaging heavy metals from harming your child's development.
Great advice, easy to understandReview Date: 2004-04-11
An excellent choice for anyone who really wants to learn about pesticides, food additives and related issues. The only thing I would have really liked is if the book were spiral bound (which would help with the recipes), but mostly because I use it for reference (for example, ways to make less toxic cleaning agents) and a spiral bound copy would be much easier.
an interesting & easy readReview Date: 2006-08-08
I knew enough to stop cleaning with chlorine bleach, comet & ammonia years ago [use vinegar, hydrogen peroxide to disinfect, baking soda to scrub - it's also less expensive] & every parent knows not to allow their kids around pesticides but this book actually explains the consequences. The info on food coloring alone is worth the price of the book! Great basic reminders like `read food labels' to avoid fructose corn syrup & other additives. Our local doctors confirmed the information about avoiding chemicals vs the biological elements in reference to allergies.
This book not only tells you what to avoid - it also describes practical alternatives.
It is an interesting easy read, broken down into sensible sections [making it good for a parent with short spans of reading time], and has great references. You don't have to have kids to appreciate this information & it should be required reading for all school board members [it's not only about food but chemicals in fabrics, bldg. materials, etc.].
If you are reading this review you are obviously interested in the health of your children - this book is defintely one you will want to read.

Please learn about the alternative to modern medicine.Review Date: 2008-05-17
Though the true cause of AIDS has yet to be found and it is highly doubtful that "HIV" is the cause (see: http://www.helpforhiv.com), there IS something going on with a large number of persons autoimmune systems. For those of us who have done our research and realize that modern medicine, for the most part, offers harmful toxic pharmaceuticals that can be worse than the "disease" itself to treat illness, Dr Gao is a God-send. His pills have zero negative side-effects.
We stopped taking all pharmaceutical drugs nearly a year ago, but like many we have been in the system for a long time (since '93 myself) and are still bothered by the "numbers game" of blood tests. And the "voodoo" affect can be very powerful. Especially when you have doctors warning you of impending death if you do not follow their advice and take their drugs.
Being that I am not a medical doctor, nor am I a virologist, biologist or any kind of scientist (with the exception of being a metaphysical scientist) nor do I have the time to learn enough technical information to actually KNOW the truth about this, I take precautions. It's really hard to know who to trust these days.
Dr Gao and Chinese Medicine, along with other healing modalities like Reiki, have been our answer and this has led us to discover a whole new wonderful world of natural medicine including herbology and proper nutrition, sunshine, fresh air, exercise and rest and meditation.
There ARE cures out there, but the modern medical cabal calling themselves the AMA, backed by the FDA and pharmaceutical companies do NOT want you to know about them... they would stand to lose millions as natural remedies... those medicines created by our Mother Earth and through the Spirit.... cannot be patented by man an made into cash cows. Remedies are available to everyone but you must be willing to look and do some research because GREED runs rampant in every area of life. Even in some of the so-called natural healing areas.
There is a place for modern medicine, especially in emergencies, but prevention and the natural ways of Mother Nature are far more effective in the long run.
Check out Dr Gao's book and if you have been diagnosed HIV positive or with AIDS are and unwilling (or unable) to take the pharmaceuticals offered today, visit http://www.hivsupport.co.uk/new_treatment.html for more information and please pay them if you can so that they be able to continue their work of improving this life saving and all natural herbal remedy.

More on the Book's PlotReview Date: 2005-07-22
"For countless millennia they have been watching and recording the history of the universe in the light of God's revelatory program. From the creation of the cosmos to the last days of the Age of Men, The Chronicles of the Watcher delivers diverse tales that encompass the spectrum of human existence and experience. With the intensity of a warrior, the passion of an artist, and the gentleness of a scholar, the Watcher portrays the dynamic, powerful, passionate, and loving interaction of the Father with angels and fallen humanity as He directs and brings to a close the last chapters of human history in the Age of Men."
But this is how I view it: there is so much richness and diversity in here that it is really hard to categorize this work. One moment you are on Mars witnessing Lucifer tempt Michael, and then the other, you are on the bowels of the slave trader Amistad. In one breath you are seeing the glories of the Millennium, and the next moment, you are seeing the modern day war on terror in all of its implications. Miranda has crafted a work that is something of a smogarsborg of Christian literature. It displays humanity at its rawest and the grace of God at its most sublime and redemptive wonder. People will either love or hate it simply because of its departure of normal conventions of traditional Christian literature. I think we are seeing something unique in here.

"It's time to return to the community, make amends, clean up the mess and get back on the right path."Review Date: 2007-08-17
In "The Citizen-Powered Energy Handbook" author Greg Pahl explains why the energy challenges facing the United States in the coming decades are not likely to be solved by the big multi-national energy companies. It seems that there is no one technology out there capable of acting as the "magic wand" to solve all of our energy problems. Of course conservation is clearly a major part of the solution. Did you know that about 6% of the electricity generated in this country is used to dry clothes? If only we had leadership that would encourage us to conserve. That would be a great start! It is clear that our future lies in the development of alternative fuels like solar, wind, water, geothermal, biomass and liquid biofuels. Greg Pahl devotes a chapter to each of these technologies and explains the exciting new developments and limitations of each of them. He introduces us to people and companies who are at the forefront of these new cutting-edge technologies. And he explains why different regions will have to customize strategies based on the available resources in their particular area. This is information that is absolutely vital for anyone interested in becoming involved in the push for alternative fuels and in lobbying for changes in governmental policies that would favor such pursuits.
I am very pleased to report that "The Citizen-Powered Energy Handbook: Community Solutions To A Global Crisis" is written in clear, easy to understand language. As another reviewer has indicated this is "must" reading for activists all over the country. As far as I am concerned this book is "must" reading for any citizen who is interested in getting up to speed on these promising new techologies. At the same time it is extremely important for people to understand that there are advantages and disadvantages to each one of these strategies. Yes, it would appear that the ultimate solution to our energy dilemma will likely be a complex mix of all of these technologies coupled with a drastically increased emphasis on conservation. I simply cannot say enough about the work that Greg Pahl has done here. Very highly recommended!
