ShockingReview Date: 2004-04-28
This book is both entertaining and enlightening, and well worth the purchase price. Tesla has long been overlooked by the general public and deserves recognition as a great inventor, that even Edison learned from. This book in particular focuses on technology that Tesla invented over 100 years ago to transmit electrical energy around the globe, without powerlines. Why have we not implemented his ideas?
Amazing presentation of wireless power transmissionReview Date: 2002-12-04
"Harnessing the Wheelwork of Nature" is a new book by Thomas Valone, who edited this book in time for the Wardenclyffe Tower Centennial (1903-2003)*. This book presents for the first time, the feasibility argument for Tesla's most ambitious dream, the wireless transmission of power. Pictured on the book's cover near his feet, the 187-foot Wardenclyffe Tower was Tesla's means to deliver natural 8 Hz electricity anywhere in the world, by longitudinal waves.
Unknown to most electrical engineers, Nikola Tesla's dream answers the energy crisis worldwide, saves electrical conversion losses, and provides a real alternative to transmission lines. Among the total of sixteen chapters or articles, only a few are reviewed here.
In Dr. Corum's two contributed papers, he explains Tesla's magnifying transmitter, which Tesla compared to a telescope. Corum points out that "the tuned circuit of his magnifying transmitter was the whole earth-ionosphere cavity resonator." This fact helps explain why Tesla stated, "When there is no receiver there is no energy consumption anywhere. When the receiver is put on, it draws power. That is the exact opposite of the Hertz-wave system...radiating all the time whether the energy is received or not." Thus, with Tesla's futuristic transmission of power, source dissipation will only be experienced when a load is engaged in a tuned receiver somewhere on the earth. This fact alone represents a major leap forward in electrical transmission efficiency, even one hundred years later.
Dr. Rauscher indicates in her paper that the earth's magnetosphere is the source of electrical energy, as Tesla emphasized. She points out that the relatively small longitudinal impulses that the Tesla Tower supplies triggers the earth-ionosphere oscillations to take place so the receivers can tap the earth's atmospheric electrical energy. Tesla estimated the available energy of the earth-ionosphere cavity at 7.5 gigawatts whereas Dr. Rauscher today shows that it is closer to 3 terawatts (3 billion kW), while the US only consumes about 360 million kW today for electrical needs (at 27% of the world usage). Therefore, the earth has almost three times the capacity available for electrical consumption than the entire world presently utilizes everyday.
Why wasn't the prototype of Wardenclyffe finished in 1903? Tesla offered this visionary conclusion: "The world was not prepared for it. It was too far ahead of time. But the same laws will prevail in the end and make it a triumphal success... Let the future tell the truth and evaluate each one according to their work and accomplishments. The present is theirs; the future, for which I really worked, is mine."
Up until now, there has been a general malaise regarding the lack of scientific comprehension of Tesla's greatest dream. For example, the Serb National Federation notes, "With the exception of the first biography of Tesla by John J. O'Neill, science editor of the New York Herald Tribune, and published in 1944, unfortunately no biographer since has had the necessary scientific/engineering academic credentials to discuss Tesla's work in the various fields." Contributors to Harnessing the Wheelwork of Nature are primarily physicists and engineers who are experts in Tesla technology. Their wealth of knowledge demonstrates their mastery of this extraordinarily progressive and technical subject. Finally, the best academic credentials have been brought to bear on the world's greatest electrical futurist.
This is a very readable and profusely illustrated reference volume on wireless transmission of power, besides being an excellent biographical gold mine of Tesla history.
Nick Cook, editor of "Jane's Defence Weekly" and author of "The Hunt for Zero Point" says, "Tesla is one of the great overlooked geniuses of science and electricity. His full story deserves to be told. Tom Valone sheds important new light on his life and work." ...

Kent begins: "We are children on this land a shadow on the still life of time.." Employing words as far more than commentary to his Pueblo saying. He measures words economically descibing past generations "whose arrival is scribed upon the line of history...(yet not adrift) on winds of story, or float upon the shrouds of myth!" I read in his brevity, layers of past, present & future!
From earlier pages he takes us back to BURIAL, "My home is over there. Now I remember it." - A Tewa song..."I am standing before a northern lake on a windswept point of land as a young Indian boy is lowered into the earth by his friends and family.
"It is a strange and lonely funeral-- they all are in their own way...In the Indians who made their home here-- like my young departed friend-- Something lives that invests this harsh land with spiritual values."
Kent never misses chances to relate the present back to the past history of his Northern Lands, even in his continued quoting of Indian Tribes: As in NATVITY: "What is life?...It is the breath of the buffalo in the winter time..." A Blackfeet death oration. After a gripping mysterious picture of a giant buffalo, Kent is at home with his short Essays based on, BLUE, JANUARY, URN, COPSE, GOOD FRIDAY, OFFERING, WIND. Poignant quotations are adopted from Sioux, Papago, Iroquois, Delaware & Crow Tribes. There are parallels between his essays based on tribal quotes and Haunting Reverence of Christian worship in all Nerburn's books... newly birthed from his majors of Religion and Art!
He refers to religion in MEMORY of TREES, "I see men but they look like trees, walking." Again in Solitudes: "The holy silence is God's voice." Golden treasures wait being discovered! Retired Chaplain Fred W Hood "Barbara377" (Fayetteville, GA United States)

One physician gives her a diagnosis -- Environmental Illness (EI) or Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). But, he tells her, there is no cure! Over years of suffering, and courageous, non-stop searching, she meets others who have the same illness. She discovers doctors and alternative medicine who know Environmental Illness, providing the increasingly ill Ms. Smith with knowledge, understanding, support, assistance and clinical, healing methods.
Lorraine Smith is now a Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy (D.C.H.). After a horrendous struggle, Dr. Smith today helps other sufferers. Read this book for information, if for no other reason. One of the best medical references on the bookshelves. It is enlightening with bibliography, indices of terms and referrals. The reader will discover many other surprises as they delve into the life of Lorraine Smith, D.C.H.

Hope, the Amazing Ingredient in Healing EIReview Date: 2000-09-10
of a schoolteacher's journey through the effects of environmental
illness. Her intense search for help leads to her discovery of
alternative healing methods. These methods take her far from her
earlier understandings and into a world where alternative health
practices bring about her dramatic recovery.
Confused by her
symptoms, the doctors can do nothing. Her mounting allergic reactions
leave Dr. Smith and her family desolate. Alone with accumulating
physical problems (from excruciating body sensations to problems with
seeing, hearing, eating, and breathing), her world becomes very
small. She sits next to her window, listening to her clock, wondering
why she is suffering so much. Through it all, the author does not
give up. Slowly, she builds on each small poignant turning point. She
shares these stories with her readers, as well as the practical
healing ideas and methods she discovers (including exercises that even
someone quite ill can do).
One of the very special features of
this book is that many of Dr. Smith's suggestions cost nothing to
incorporate. The biggest investment needed by readers is that of
cultivating willingness . . . to believe that healing is quite
possible. She describes how each seeming obstacle eventually, through
her willingness, becomes a jumping off point. Dr. Smith gives readers
the means to take control of many aspects of their recovery.
This
book is full of optimism, compassion for those who suffer, practical
advice on what to do, and energetic ways to gently and incrementally
ease back into living. She also includes her spiritual experiences,
for those who wish to call on this often ignored aspect of recovering
health. Dr. Smith's personal story (told in a stirring,
straightforward, and easy to understand manner), combined with helpful
healing ideas (also presented in a clear, useful, easy to grasp and
practice fashion), make this book a rare find. The reader is offered
hope and the means to realize that hope in Heal Environmental Illness
and Reclaim Your Life.
Dr. Smith understands what it is to live
through having EI. Her gentle and honest narrative invite you to feel
as though she is right there to offer wisdom and kindness and
help. She also knows what it is to recover! Her words are uplifting
and inspiring. Her fascinating journey provides a path for others to
discover their journey, one that well may result in seeming miracles!
A Journey Worth TakingReview Date: 2000-08-29
Dr.Smith provides an extremely personal and vivid first-hand account of the long, downward spiral of declining health she experienced after being exposed to chemical solvents, and her heart-rendering account of her struggles to regain her health are powerfully told. Poignantly detailed are her many long hours of solitude and loneliness forced upon her due to the nature of the illness, something to which fellow sufferers will readily relate.
Dr. Smith's extensive research of environmental illness helps to provide a veritable wealth of information on alternative therapies not recognized by the established medical community. Her solution and the path she takes to restore her own health have provided not only a ray of hope to the many thousands afflicted with the problem but a blueprint to wellness as well.

Holistic HealingReview Date: 2008-03-12
For the individual who is sick of being sick, "Heal Yourself: Mind Body Spirit" is an excellent resource! Dr. Kamph takes you to the basics of the mind/body connection. She introduces the book with insights provided from a chiropractic and nutritionist standpoint. Learning early how factors such as nutrition, stress and toxicity affect an individual's overall health, one is clearly able to navigate through Dr. Kamph's advice to understand healthcare in a fundamental way
Chapter two of the book illustrates the "General Adaptation Syndrome" which posits that there are three stages to a body's reaction to a negative stimulus. Stage one is alarm, two is adaptation, and three is exhaustion. The reader is introduced to the stimuli outlined as emotional, dietary, physical and environmental then given basic information toward effective management. This framework provides the basis for understanding the way the body functions as a reactionary device. Understanding this allows and person to then dive into what stresses are presented and how to counteract the outcomes.
The reader is then introduced to the basic body systems and cells. Dr. Kamph simplifies these systems by analyzing how they function, reporting what they do and addressing common issues with which we bombard them. The beauty of her style is that she presents them very thoroughly yet easy to "digest," so to speak. The reader is given the information in fun, short and to-the-point analyses, which allow the lay person to understand without feeling lost in jargon. The book is filled with fun illustrations and personal stories that relate to these areas and make the knowledge real in terms of our daily lives and functions.
After a basic understanding, we are introduced to ways to detoxify and help reverse the negative effects of the stressors the body has already encountered. We are told of the need to begin with a "clean colon and liver" and how to proceed from there. Water is essential and this book even gives great tips about what types of water (or more appropriately sources and filtering) truly help to achieve the goal. We learn how to supplement and exactly what vitamins and minerals do. We then learn of the components of a good diet to maintain health, even down to how to store and cook our food. We are presented with an "emergency kit" of holistic products that can serve to stem our day to day issues. The book concludes with a chapter on "the power of thought," and the role of the mind in the entire process. Dr Kamph emphasizes the need for all components to work in union to achieve the goal.
Overall the book does a great job of education and suggestion to help heal, and maintain a positive course of holistic health. Readers will find themselves enlightened and entertained simultaneously by "Heal Yourself: Mind Body Spirit."
Education for a new pathReview Date: 2006-12-23
The premise of this book is a simple one. If you take to heart the advice within its pages and apply the techniques described to your body and your life, you will not only be a healthier individual but a happier one as well.
This is such a simple sentence, but one that packs a lot of promise into its structure. And so it is with this book as well. Within its 122 pages (including Bibliography and index); this book puts into simple language the difficult task of making ones life a healthier one. Broken into four sections, "Heal Yourself: Mind Body Spirit," the reader is taken through the various problems that plague the average person and in turn is given advice from Chiropractor/author Marcela Kamph on how to simplify ones life and become a better person for it.
Section one gets off to a great start, mentioning the `mind body emotion connection' and how all three of these areas affect each of us in different ways. It also explains through examples and easy to understand language, how a problem in any one of these sections can affect the whole body and throw the whole of a person into turmoil. One chapter of special interest is that of Chapter 4, which address' the `spine, spinal nerves and symptoms' and how they work to keep our bodies in check, as well as how when one of these 3 areas is `out of alignment' the whole of the body suffers. This was interesting to this reviewer in that I have had experience in this area with migraines and have discovered that when my spine is out of alignment, the headaches are more severe and actually longer lasting than when I make a point of keeping my body aligned. The author does a wonderful job in this chapter explaining the spine and its part in the wellness of the body and in my opinion; this is by far one of the best chapters in the book.
That said I must also be honest when I say that although I agree with the author when she maintains a healthier diet can help alleviate a number of negative situations with our bodies, I have a problem with her in that the diet described within the pages of this book seems to be a difficult one to maintain. Though the author is very thorough in her description of why each item is important, I have a hard time believing that the average reader will have the time or the resources available to maintain the diet suggested. The section on `food combining' and `pulse test' while interesting, are also questionable as to whether many readers will be dedicated enough to follow through on the advice within at least after the first few days.
All in all, this is an interesting book. It covers a myriad of problems and offers solutions which vary in their applications and difficulty level to achieve. Although I may not agree with all the stringent rules and suggestions within its pages in regards to diet, I still find this book to be a worthwhile read for the common sense and eye opening information about the body presented by the author. I would suggest that the reader determine what his/her needs are and whether he/she is open to new information, ideas and applications before purchasing "Heal Yourself: Mind Body Spirit.." If the reader is willing to make significant changes, then by all means purchase this book and dive into its pages. It holds many new ideas, insights and suggestions and given a chance, can educate the reader and show the path to new ways of becoming a happier healthier person....perhaps sooner than you ever imagined.
Informative, Enlightening, and MotivatingReview Date: 2006-09-22
The material reported in the case study is then examined for cause of the symptoms, the reasons for the prescribed treatment as it relates to the bodies system, and why the treatment was successful.
Topics like understanding stress, the nervous and muscular systems, the spine, spinal nerves, the cells, the cardiovascular, lymph and immune systems are all covered in depth. The digestive and the excretory systems are illustrated and detailed.
I found the information on diet and nutrition of special interest and extremely helpful.
Dr. Kamph is well known for her educational workshops, her informative articles, and for her earlier book, "Prescription of Robust Health." She has been a presenter at The Power of Healing conferences, and often appeared as a featured guest on radio and TV.
"Heal Yourself" is an excellent guidebook for making informed choices for reversing illness and regaining emotional, mental, and physical well being.
