My discovery of Edward Bach's Flower Therapy came on me suddenly. In the midst of writing a novel, my lead character decided to enhance her floral shoppe inventory with self-sewn natural plants and seeds. Within twenty-four hours of beginning my search for herbal practices, I ran into Bach's 38 key plants employed for prevention and cure of a multitude of ailments. This book is a beautiful reference and has been an endless reference for me while developing plant and human characters. I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone who wishes to discover how your personality quirks might be tamed by God's wildflowers.

I am a Reiki person, A massage person, An Herb person, A Gardner, So Bach just seem to be the next natural course of events. This is a good Starter book. It talks about each indiviuial flower. The basics. The foundation. This will be a reference book for the future. I am intending on buying other books about Bach.

Great reference tool!

This is an excellent companion for anyone who uses bach flower therapy. It is very informative providing in depth information on each flower, history, photos, the negative as well as positive side aspects the particular flower is used for and what I find particularly helpful are the focus ideas at the end of each chapter for refocusing your thoughts. Extensive questionairre, index, glossary.

It may be a bit more than a person needs if you are just curious or have not begun using bach flowers.

Focuses on the brochure issues

Review Date: 2008-03-24
I found this a difficult read. There was never anything to really get excited about and no new amazing insights. It simply repeated the accepted wisdom on Bach flowers. Her description of each flower remedy was a long discussion of the negative state given in the Bach Flower brochure. It's her opinion that it is the separation from the higher self and not listening to your inner voice that causes this negative state.

For instance, when it comes to Chestnut Bud she focuses on the fact that they make repetitive mistakes. Chestnut Bud people have laser like focus, and can obsess on a tiny area of the universe. This makes them brilliant, but they miss many things outside of their field of interest, hence the mistakes. They are like the classic "absent minded professor". They have extreme talent in one area, but very little common sense. Many people with Asperger's will benefit from this remedy.

If you ask a Chestnut Bud if he makes repetitive mistakes, he will answer with an emphatic "No!" because if he makes a mistake in his area of focus, he learns from it, and does not make the same mistake twice. Where he makes repeated mistakes is outside his area of focus, which he doesn't see, and often doesn't care about. But if you ask him "Can you focus intensely on something you're interested in, finding answers that no one else can think of?" He will answer, "Absolutely!" So yes, he makes repeated mistakes, but that's not how you need to approach him. Instead focus on his intelligence and problem solving capabilities, and show him how to balance it.

She is very picky about how many drops to use, what kind of alcohol, and how to drink the water. They are flower remedies. They're an energy medicine. Finding the right remedy is much more important than how many drops to use.

When it comes to selecting the correct remedy she treats it like a homeopathic consultation, with a long interview process, and questionnaires that once again focus on the simplistic negative states given in the brochure. She off handedly dismisses any type of energy testing, saying that people new to Bach Flowers use this approach. I have used Bach Flower remedies for years, and I find energy testing to be quite important. Just because somebody has Asperger's does not mean they need Chestnut Bud. Contrary to popular belief, a flower remedy can be wrong, and can stress a person.

Frequently energy testing will point to a remedy that I dismissed, and when I look at it more closely I think, "Oh, I hadn't thought of it that way." Energy testing has actually taught me more about the remedies because I've learned what types of people can benefit from certain remedies outside of the simple issues in the brochure. It's fun to meet a client for the first time, with basically no knowledge of their personality, and be able to describe their most pressing issue. They say "Wow, how did you know that?" It also increases their faith in your ability to help them.

The focus on the negative aspects also felt over emphasized. Natural leaders will often test for Vine, which does not mean they are tyrants. It means they are natural leaders and it strengthens those qualities.

If you are interested in the Bach Flowers, I recommend Advanced Bach Flower Therapy: A Scientific Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment. I also really like Practical Uses and Applications of the Bach Flower Emotional Remedies.

I read the original three volumes and believed that the author was done, because I never saw another volume. Just recently I realized I had missed four volumes!!! I could not put them down. Characters are believable with battle scenes that remind me of Viet Nam. I enjoy the military very much, recognizing all the elements in the Hordes versus Keane. I only wished that he would spell Civil War names correctly, JEB Stuart and not JEB Stewart. I still enjoy this series very much and I am glad that it continues.

Another solid book in a great series!

This book picks up right where the last one left off. There is a 30 day lull in the battle with the Merki due to the assasination of the Merki leader. The Merki have a ceremonial 30 days of mourning when the leader dies.

During this time, the humans begin there final withdrawal and buildup. They leave behine a scorched earth. The Merki do not know how to handle an enemy that will not fight in the open. There is no honor in this battle. They look forward to a single big confrontation and swift decisive end.

The humans have several tricks up their sleeves, including traps, guerilla warfare and deception.... And as usual, new surprising weapons.

This is an excellent addition to the series. The end of the book opens a new chapter for the next book. I hope we can find out more information about the technology and history of the "ancients"....

Scorched Earth.

Four amazing books so far. Or, if you prefer (As I do), one very long book, a sort of "War and Peace" of the sci-fi genre. No matter how you look at it, this developing tale by Forstchen only gets better. He is not afraid to kill off some of his main characters to add realism to the story, and he is not afraid to surprise the reader with tactics that are rather unexpected. "Fateful Lightning" presents a massive migration of Rus toward the land of Roum, pursued by the relentless Merki hordes. The humans will burn the land behind them, poisoning wells and setting traps for their foes, so that by the time of their final confrontation we can realistically see that the Merki, in spite of their great superiority in numbers, are overextended and will not be able to withstand a severe blow from the humans. The humans are at the end of their rope, too, but one of the most endearing characters in the series will have a shot at saving his people by refusing to obey orders. And Muzta, one of my favorite characters, will also have a chance to save his own people. Again, the battles are almost unforgettable: the horror of war, the worst of men, and the most noble in them is presented by Forstchen in a gripping, spectacular way. Hawthorne becomes a sort of Dark angel of the battlefield, and the Roman Marcus figures as a key participant by now. Four out of four. And it only gets better.

Yet again, another fiver for the series...

Wow, this is the series that just keeps on going and going. Excellent. This was perhaps the best one I've read so far next to Rally Cry. Again, there's that great sense of dread and forboding on the humans' part, as they attempt to fight off the ever encroaching Merki Hordes, now, of course, led by that rat Tamuka. The funeral of Jubadi was sickening... I loved it. Showalter's and his Cavalry's final, desparate charge into the Merki ranks was glorious. John Mina was a total nutball, picking on ol' Fergie like that. Oh, and I'm glad Ferguson, my favorite character in the series, got the girl. He deserves her. The Battle of Hispania was marvelous, so many troops in a battle of annihilation, fighting for their lives against vicious alien monsters, it filled you with pride for being human. Mutza's role in the whole story was satisfying-- I always liked him for some reason, even when he was attempting to destroy the old 35th. At least he had that glimmering of doubt, of whether or not fighting the humans was such a good idea, something which Tamuka did not. Bullfinch's endeavors, however, were very underexplored. I would've liked to see more of his liberation of the Cartha. Young Gregory's recitation of Shakespeare's Henry V-- "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers..."-- was very emotional and moving. And, yes, the editing is very, very bad here, as it is in the other Lost Regiment novels, but it did not take away from this rich story. Fateful Lightning is a masterful end to the Merki War, a stupendous entry in the Lost Regiment series, and a true gem in the realm of science-fiction.

Forever Ageless: Advanced Edition - Review

Chef Rothenberg and company have successfully cooked up the most up-to-date and artfully presented "tomato sauce" of Preventive and Regenerative Medicine to date. Whether it's a quick, nuts and bolts reference for patient education and treatment algorithms (the CD power points are great for patient ed) or a thorough, in depth, peer review supported guide to complex, multi-factorial, treatment decisions...from history, evaluation and testing, treatments, exercise, diet, clinical and legal implications, supportive abstracts and references, "It's in there!" The book is written, depicted and organized in a practical, user friendly manner for both patients and "in the trenches" practitioners. This state of the art opus breaks a complex area of medicine down and puts it back together, an ingredient at a time, in an understandable, common sense, open-minded fashion that is hugely educational and an enjoyable read. Forever Ageless: Advanced Edition is destined to be a top seller and deserves a place in everyone's personal library. Help your patients and lengthen your own "Healthspan". Get this book...read it...live it ... and "live long, healthy and prosper"!

Dr. Rothenberg's most recent book "Forever Ageless", Advanced Edition is an updated overview of Anti-Aging Medicine that has no peer. This rapidly emerging field of medicine provides the answer to the inadequacies of traditional western medicine. The treatise is versatile enough to provide a Reader's Digest overview of selected topics while also providing references from the medical literature that in turn provides the scientific basis for this new approach to health care. The format explores the impact of various lifestyle modifications as well as the more recent additions to our armamentarium, supplements and hormone replacement. Theory is brought alive with specific algorithms understandable to both the physician and the patient. Specific information is provided on daily requirements of various food groups, supplements, ect. Dr. Rothenberg is truly a proven leader in this field that will eventually change the way we practice medicine. I highly recommend this valuable resource to the layman as well as the healthcare professional. James F. Lineback MD

We All Negotiate Daily: Here's How to Win

Review Date: 2008-05-04
Mary Greenwood, J.D., LL.M., has written an indispensable, sensible and very knowledgeable book that everyone needs by their right hand. How to Negotiate Like a Pro contains 41 rules about how to negotiate just about anything, from face-to-face, to online, to eBay; to divorce.

I liked Rule 2: Look forward: the past is called the past for a reason. Or what about that strange Rule 3: You don't have to be Right to Settle. What? Mary Greenwood tells you how. Then there is rule 19: Never Take No for an Answer. But she cautions you to listen to the other party carefully so you can determine if their arguments might allow you to change you mind. Below each Rule's explanation, Ms. Greenwood has a little section called: Script: a small part of a script for Rule 19 is: "I understand what you are saying, but what if we did it this way?" These scripts set you right into a negotiating setting, using "I" so that you get immediately into the verbal reality of a negotiating moment.

Mary Greenwood gives you tips on How to Negotiate with Your Boss, or ex-Spouse, or how to get a good rate at a hotel. She covers an extensive list of the negotiating situations we all find ourselves in. There is an appendix of negotiation terms. Just today, after I had read a little of her book, I found myself suddenly in a situation where I had to be negotiating, and quickly. As I lost it, yelling down the phone what I wanted, I thought, "Oh, my goodness, I have to finish How to Negotiate Like a Pro!" I picked it back up and read like fury. Next time, ah, I will have all of it down pat, thanks to this very thorough book which can be used constantly as a reference as the daily world hurls us its negotiating moments.

Mary Greenwood is highly qualified to write such a book, having been a negotiator most of her professional career as an Attorney, Mediator, Human Resources Director, Union Negotiator, Arbitrator and Law School Professor. After you read this book, you will be able to negotiate "like a professional." I love that it is written by a highly qualified woman, and I recommend this book, not only for men, but for women, like me, who might take a worse offer than bargain for our rights or for a better deal. The author makes this business everybody's business and throws a lot of dignity into the mix. Don't forget to read the one about "you can negotiate with a lunatic," when she goes on to discuss doing so with your ex-spouse!

And, by the way, she has another award-winning book out called, How to Mediate Like a Pro.

Mary Greenwood has won six book awards for her book How to Negotiate Like A Pro; is a finalist in the Self-Help Category for the National Best Books 2007 Awards awarded by USABookNews. She won the 2006 DIY Book Festival Prize for Best "How To Book." She has a long list of other similar awards that are impressive, including Honorable Mention in the Self-Help Category from the London Book Festival 2007, and Runner-Up in the e-Book Category and the Self-Help Category in the New York Book Festival 2007. This book is well laid out and easy to read and would appeal to everyone because of its broad spectrum of situations where we mediate. I highly recommend it.

Mary has 25 years or experience in negotiations and it is apparent in her easy to undertand book that gives you all the rules, examples and information you need to become a good negotiator. Mary lists each rule and offers you tips, ideas and detailed explanations on how and when to use it in your negotiations. Whether it is with an employee, a customer or a client, you will find this book can help you resolve any dispute that comes your way and you will come out on top. Greenwood draws upon her extensive experience as a mediator to come up with a clearly written, succinct set of 41 concise rules for negotiating that are applicable not only to labor issues but also useful to everyday interactions with coworkers and family. This book is readily accessible to all because it is written in standard English, not in legal jargon. As one who is not familiar with legal terminology, I found the Glossary to be especially valuable, as are the other Appendices. For each of the 41 rules, Greenwood provides a sample script that summarizes how one can deal with this point. For example, Rule 31 - "Watch the other side's body language", with the script that follows " When he does not look me in the eye, I think he is lying." Many of the 41 rules should be, but often are not, a matter of common sense in dealing with others; Rule 41 - "Do not expect thanks or gratitude when it is all over."

I have found this book to be an excellent guide for reasonable rules regarding how to interact with others, whether they are supervisors, employees, students, friends or family. I recommend it highly.

probably my favourite of new reiki books this year. THIS is how reiki should be encouraged in ourselves, our students and in others. Amy (whom I've never met) has written a wonderful book which offers much to think about, much to try and some GREAT approaches in learning to BE reiki and BE the energy. There are a good number of books out there wherein one can learn how to be sooooo Japanese and there are numbers of books which repeat the same old information but this book truly ADDS to the knowledge of reiki in the world... So far, of the over 125 books about Reiki which I own, this is one of my favourites.

A Much-Needed Resource for Reiki Practitioners of ALL Levels!

So many reiki practitioners are taught how to do reiki, i.e, hand positions, varying symbols and techniques, meditation and so on, but so little time is actually spent helping the student of reiki to actually learn how to be OPEN to the intuitive flow that is essentially a part of true reiki practice. Most teachers, in fact, may not even be aware how to tap into the intuitive flow themselves.

How does reiki actually show us what to work on with a client? How do you learn to interpret the signals and signs you receive while giving a healing treatment? What steps can a reiki practitioner take to become more open to the messages contained within the human energy field and the flow of energy from the universe?

Rowland's book is chock full of *useful* and helpful information designed to teach both reiki students and other teachers *how* to be open and aware of these signs, these messages. Written in a concise, straightforward manner, the book is nonetheless a great storehouse of information that is much needed at this time and particularly in this country, where most of the reiki practitioners are left to sort out for themselves exactly what to do with what they "receive" from a client during a treatment.

Rowland teaches classes in Reiki and Intuition and this book is based on her work with these classes and with teaching students from all levels of Reiki how to tune in to their intuitive processes. As such, it is a great success. Rowland is neither self-important nor does she waste any time in criticism of any other practices or techniques; what is taught here can be implemented into ANY reiki practice, regardless of lineage or style.

I had already intended to take Rowland's class; after reading this book, I am more interested than ever, not because the book is insufficient, but because her writing style is so engaging, that I want to study with her more! I have met her in person and reading her book does sound exactly like speaking with her in person. It's a good read, interesting, and well-planned out. I highly recommend it for anyone who is Reiki.

I haven't finished the entire book, but it validates how I practice Reiki. I am very glad I bought it.

This fascinating book is geared toward the person who already knows what reiki is and has already been attuned. I am attuned for Reiki I and II, and was introduced to many new ideas and ways of using reiki in this book. Mostly the book deals with the intuitive aspects of reiki, and this is a subject that was no more than mentioned in my training. The book presents in depth ideas about how reiki enhances intuition and how intuitive reiki can lead to more effective healing. For the person who knows nothing about reiki and wants to learn, I recommend "Practical Reiki" by Mari Hall. For the person who knows a little more about reiki, "Intuitive Reiki for Our Times" will be both interesting and inspirational. Someone who is interested in developing intuition might also like this book.

Amy Rowland's new book is beautifully written and thoughtfully told. Through personal stories and examples of dialogue with her clients and students, Amy clearly demonstrates how the subtle energy of intuition can be perceived, understood and incorporated in all levels of Reiki practice.
In addition to the exceptional writing, style, and content, the most compelling reason to read Amy's book is how magically it imparts, to the reader, her beautiful Spirit and the Spirit of Reiki.

I bought this book when it was first published in the 90's. I haven't found another book that is as good. I have used it so much that my old one is falling apart. I have to buy a new one because I need the book. The book is 402 pages long. There may be a few trendy herbs that are aren't mentioned but not many. This book lists the bodily influences each herb has on the body and gives a long list for the uses of each herb. Bold lettering is used to indicate when an herb has a profound, SIGNIFICANT effectiveness .This book has helped me a lot. The only drawback to the contents is I would like to know what vitamins are in each herb etc. I have used this book to treat numerous ailments.

The Little Herb Encyclopedia...okay, not the greatest.

There are many herbs not in the book. Explanations are a bit on the hazy side. No ideas on how to use the herbs...BUT...it's great for what it does have, tells of many things each herb can be used for. Just wish it were more complete!
With all this, I still have had no thought of returning the one I bought for myself at the store. Bought one from Amazon for a friend who works much with herbs, etc., as she said it was on her wish list.
p.s...get the spiral bound one...much easier to use.

Every time you read it, you find something you didn't see before.

I have dozens of herb books. It never fails to amaze me how thorough this book is. If you want info on an obscure herb or obscure info on a common herb, this is the book for you.

I'm glad to see there is a spiral bound version. I'm buying a second copy to have it in spiral. It is literally a book you can study from and want to take notes from. The spiral version will make that easier.

WONDERFUL REFERENCE OF INDIVIDUAL HERBS

This book is absolutely the best one I have seen when it comes to being thorough for the different uses of each herb. It has listings of primary and secondary conditions affected by the herbs, after a write up of usually close to a page on each one. In the write up it elaborates on many of the uses, and often gives historical uses. I find it a vital reference guide and refer to it VERY often!!! Is easy to understand, contains warnings about the herbs that need it, and is really the most informative guide to herbal usage.

I bought the new, soft paperbound book, and it fell apart on the way home from the store. After using it for a while I decided it was invaluable and ordered (YEAY!) a spiral bound book from Amazon.com. I definitely recommend the spiral bound as the way to go if you can get it! But even if you get a paperbound copy and it should fall apart, it is worth 50 times the money, and worth the extra care you need to take of the book. (Hopefully everyone is not as physically "hard" on books as I am!)

I bought this for my Mom for Christmas and i stole it for myself. I was reading through it before i wrapped it for her and it was too amazing to give away. The information is fantastic and it is very straight forward and easy to understand. I wish the author's practice wasn't in Hawaii so i could get in to see her, she is amazing. I highly recommend this to anyone who is tired of the endless cycles of medicines and feeling terrible, it is a release from modern medicine and a breath of fresh air.

Natural Choices for Women's Health

Natural Choices for Women's Health is a must have reference for all women. This book details a very complete list of common female health issues including everything from anxiety and breast cancer through fatigue and hot flashes to PMS and weight gain. In each of these cases, this book gives the reader ideas on what she can do to help alleviate these issues as well as medical resources available for dealing with these conditions.

Though I found these aspects helpful and appealing, the part of this book I was most impressed with was the assessment of health issues according to the five elements. At first, I thought that figuring out my element type was just a bit of fun, rather like determining my star sign. However, once I found my element type I started to realize the significance of this very important information. It seems that certain element types are more or less prone to certain afflictions. Moreover, the ways to treat imbalances need to be tailored to suit the person's element type.

My element type and associated health issues were dead on describing me in amazing detail, giving me tremendous insight into myself as well as health and medical information that I could actually use to make myself feel better.

I saw this book recently on CNN and heard the author talking about it. I bought the book and must say I was not disappointed. This is just a fantastic book. It really delves into areas of natural health that other books on the topic just don't cover. For instance the area of breast health for women or the part about the health of the pelvis. There's just nothing out there that does such a fantastic job covering women's health as this book does. I am getting a tremendous amount out of this book. I give it an A plus, ten stars.

I first read about this book in a women's magazine. Several ailments were described and I tried the one where it was recommended to take Withanolides for Insomnia. I went and got the herb and the product that they talked about at my local Vitamin Shoppe store and that stuff really works!! I have tried several well known herbs who are suppossed to relax you and make you sleep better but this one is really the best. After that I bought the book and it's great. It's an easy read and gives Chinese medicine the attention it deserves. I recommend this book to everyone.
