Despite its modest format, this elegant monograph more than does justice to Vincent James' extraordinary copper pavilions floating in a birch forest, comprehensively illustrated here with a wide range of visual materials, from early design sketches, construction photographs, and extensive working drawings to exquisite images of the finished building through four seasons of rain, mist, snow, and sun. Fold-out plans are provided in the inside cover, with a location key to all photos for readers' convenience. The graphic design of the book is clearly a labor of love, far beyond the often perfunctory standard of architectural publishing. Professional readers will regret the absence of scale information, but this is a minor lapse amidst the books many virtues.

Although this book was published in 2000, I was surprised to find no customer had yet reviewed it. It is a little different from other books on the work of Sir Edwin Lutyens.
First of all, most of the photographs are in color, bringing the subjects to life in a way that was not possible in previous books, many of them relying largely on old photographs from Country Life magazine. Thus we get a much more real feeling of those classic Lutyen houses, nestling into their incredible English gardens (largely designed by Gertrude Jekyll) and see how the design is carried on through to the interiors. All the favorite Lutyens houses are there - Goddards, Orchards, Little Thakeham, Munstead Wood, Deanery Garden, Marsh Court and more.
Another difference in this book is that it deals not only with the architecture but also with the design of the interiors, the architectural fixtures and accessories and the furniture, which in themselves are amazing - they bow to tradition, yet look to the future - and many have been borrowed by more than one modern designer.
This book is well worth consideration.

This is a story of a dog that was used to help treat emotionally disturbed children. I must have checked this book out a dozen times when I was in elementary school. It will touch you to the very core.

gorgeous images and very striking designs. One of the coolest books I have seen on kitchen design. You probably would not want to build exactly the kitchens shown here -- they are more like extreme examples of ideas. But the ideas are very interesting and have given me a lot to think about in building my next kitchen

Don't let the title fool you - it is not at all about small rooms. It is about the efficient use of space combined with exciting colors shapes and forms. There are some really great ideas in this volume.

This book like the hardcover, is an excellent resource for anyone planning or designing a new home. It deals with individuals tendency to build more home than they need and how to prioritize and evaluate each space.

This book is unlike other new home sales books. If you want a book that spells out the process to selling and closing, then this is your book. If you are looking for a motivational book that ties in selling, then grab a Ziggler, Tracy, Myers Barnes. This would be an excellent read for a person just getting into new homes sales or someone that isn't process driven and has been "winging" it.

I got this book when I started working at home and faced the problem of turning a typical family house into an office/working/living area without being able to magic up a couple of new rooms. It turned out to be a perfect choice becaue it is absolutely practical, yet doesn't compromise on style. Its helped me turn my three-up two-down conventional family house into a much more flexible and beutiful place for living. If you are not totally happy with the way your home works, but don't want to do anything as drastic as move - I recommend you take a look at what this book has to say.
