These Tennis Shoes Rock!Review Date: 2007-01-23
A book by Chris Heimerdinger
The Tennis Shoes series is originally about a boy who travels back in time to an ancient civilization called the Nephites (a people whose writings make the "Book of Mormon", which is a book the religious people called "Mormons" or the "L.D.S." people base their beliefs). Armed with modern gadgets, the boy, named Jim, his sister Jenny, and their enemy-turned-friend, Garth, are out for the adventure of their lives.
When Garth finds an ancient cave, which he believes holds hieroglyphs made by the Nephites, he begs Jim and Jenny to come along. When they reluctantly agree, they find themselves sucked into a whirlpool of a lake, which they are manipulated by and finally spewed out on a waterfall. Where they are, they have no idea.
The three-some suddenly realize they are in a world where there is no electricity, no cars, no boats, not anything! Jim finds out that they are in the world of the Nephites. How can they get home? How can they make friends with these nomadic people? How can they make sure that they don't get eaten by wild beasts? Read this book and you will be hooked until the very end!
"Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites" is only the first of ten books! In the next nine, Jim's family and friends also find this historic cave, but it doesn't only take them to the land of the Nephites! Read these books to find adventures in Mexico, ancient Rome, the Mayan empire, ancient Babylon, and much, much more!

Great For Mormon Children!!Review Date: 2004-04-12
This is the story of Jim who is in need of a spiritual experience to increase his faith and bring him back into the fold of the church. He has help from his friend, Garth, a Book of Mormon expert, as they accidentally go back in time while searching some old caves. Jim's little sister (Jenny) comes along as well and gets kidnapped by the Lamanites. Jim befriends many common Book of Mormon heroes as they try to save Jenny and get back home.
For children over 9 or 10, this is a GREAT read. It really brings the Book of Mormon to life. For adults, well, I found it a little bit childish for my tastes but I have heard that the following books are more mature. I'm looking forward to reading more about these types of adventures. My only real complaint was that the ending seemed to wrap itself up too quickly. It was almost like the author was tired of writing the book and just wrote to get it over with in a hurry.

ITS CHEAPER THAN THERAPYReview Date: 2007-03-04
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a boost to handle procrastination and prioritizing. Ms. Greenlee's uncovers a profound truth using vivid illustrations and metaphors to convey her point and shift us out of our "comfort zone". And, it's a LOT CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!

Great place to start or wonderful for a traditional quiltReview Date: 2008-01-14
Great instructions, perfect for beginnersReview Date: 2008-01-05
It gives very clear step-by-step instructions and also a list of all general supplies one needs, such as a rotary cutter, cutting mat, different types of batting, pins etc. I did not feel the need to buy all of it, but it does give a good starting list. I probably spent $50-75 to get started, excluding fabrics and a sewing machine of course.
What I also love is that it gives very exact amounts of the fabrics you need. I found they are highly accurate, leaving just enough room for a mistake but without having a pile of scraps left.
The book offers many different sizes and patterns, showing clearly which patterns go with which size.
I highly recommend this book, because it guides you through every step from cutting, assembly, layout, sewing, batting, with text and many helpful images.
The only thing I found slightly misleading is the title. Except for the smallest quilts, I don't think many people could finish a quilt in a day.

What this did was give me confidence to go home and finish my QS Triple Irish Chain.
I recommend this book highly for beginner quilters. Sometimes you read instructions and wonder what the quilter was smoking. Not Ms. Burns.

Book about the first day in a new school - we all remember what that's like, right?Review Date: 2008-07-04
The book runs through the excuses Sarah makes to avoid going to her new school (note that she's nervous about switching schools), and she's steadily cajoled into the front of the class where our Surprise! Announcement! reveals (and I admit, I was surprised - this is really well-done) that she's the teacher.
Well, no doubt teachers do get nervous on the first day of school, same as anybody else does :) Kids are likely to be surprised and laugh at the ending too, maybe even not believe it.
I do find it a little off-putting that Sarah's husband and boss essentially talk to her (and, in the beginning, treat her) like she's a child, but that's necessary to make the reveal an actual surprise.
I found the conversation between Sarah and the other characters to be very realistic (maybe a little less so for an adult, but, remember, we have to be surprised at the end), just like the conversations I had with my parents as a kid about school some days.

A Wonderful Book for the First Day of SchoolReview Date: 2008-03-24
doesn't want to go to school because she is so nervous about the students in the school. So she tries to do everything to avoid from getting out of bed but nothing works. What I liked most about this book was that it was funny, had great pictures, and it's surprise ending. I would recommend this book to teachers, parents, and friends.

An excellent guide for creating wedding ceremony text. Review Date: 2008-05-09
My friends took their time (up to the wedding day!) to create their ceremony. This book helped them to get their creative juices flowing by helping to explain the mysteries around the different elements of wedding ceremonies.
Absolutely a must purchase for anyone writing their own ceremony vows etc.

The only book you need to help you plan your wedding ceremonyReview Date: 2008-02-08
My fiance and I are in the midst of planning our wedding now. Before I read this book, we didn't know where to begin even thinking about the ceremony. There are so many books out there about planning the reception, but so few that focus on the most important part - the ceremony. This book is full of great ideas and beautiful words to say for weddings of all shapes, sizes and persuasions. It's given us a great template to use with our officiant in creating a meaningful ceremony that truly reflects who we are.

Winnie the Pooh - an adults perspectiveReview Date: 2008-03-14
So pristine, so perfect - would I have appreciated it as a child? Who knows (I was too busy feeding my literary hunger with comics). Anyway I have my copy of 'Winnie the Pooh' on the top shelf of my book case, next to the others I consider great (Ulysses, 1984, Great Expectations ...) for all to see.
And who can contest that for "I am a bear of very little brain, and big things bother me".

I listened to this because one of my companions on my mission had it (I don't think it was against the rules of our mission) and he really liked it, none of his other companions wanted to give it a chance, so when he asked if I'd listen to it with him I decided to be the nice one, he said if I didn't like it we never had to listen to it, I agreed and...wow!! For 3 days all we did during lunch and after the day was over was listen to his tapes.
What an enveloping story, exciting and suspenseful, it is very well written and intertwined with the actual stories. It is very enjoyable, it makes you wish you could have been there, the way he describes things is mind wrapping. I definately recommend it. I am giving it for Christmas.
