HOW TO TAKE SCRAPBOOK PICTURES doesn't assume that you have any knowledge of photography; it takes your hand and takes you step-by-step through the basic techniques you'll need to know in order to take your own one-of-a-kind scrapbook photos. It gives easy to follow instructions for using SLR and point and shoot cameras along with information on lighting, composition, and visual effects. There are numerous photographs on each page giving examples of the tips in action.

Each page is broken down into separate headlined paragraphs highlighting different elements...this makes it easy to find what you're looking for and even easier to read and understand. Chapters include: camera basics; film & digital media; pixel perfect, understanding the digital domain; creative camera controls simplified; working with light; visual dynamics, giving your photographs impact; photographing people; and every picture tells a story.

This is the book to get if you're looking to get a little more in depth, yet understandable and easy to put into practice, knowledge of how to use your camera to take more beautiful pictures.

I have been tying flies for 35 years plus and consider myself to be an advanced tyer. Dick Talleur has done an outstanding job of showing us some of his little known tricks. He is probably the best overall tyer I know.I have taken lessons from Veverka, Talleur, and Shewey. Dick is the best 'teacher' of them all.Kudos on another fabulous tying book. Definitely a "Must have".

Girls and money

This is an essential book for girls, especially in a world where they are bombarded with credit cards that they use and abuse freely, without understanding and with disastrous consequences. The open and breezy format invites girls to understand their place in the global economy and to take the first steps on the road to financial literacy. Understand how you might start your own business like other young girls, how money works, how it grows through the miracle of compound interest, and how to achieve a lifetime of financial security through sensible investment goals. There's a handy glossary, recommended books that encourage girls to control their financial destiny, plus lots of useful websites for young investors. Don't be one of those women who laments, "No one ever taught me about money."

Great Resource for Activities
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-02
I'd rate this book a high four or a low five. The reason being that the illustrations in this book are big and cluttery and sometimes the fonts used are big and cluttery. I find I have a hard time reading the directions for the activity because my eye is roving around the page so much. Maybe others don't have this problem?

Otherwise this is an excellent book full of great ideas for how to make the weekends fun. There are a wide range of activities that will appeal to a wide range of kiddos: Music, planting, magic and rainy day activities. Glass chimes, clay recipes, cooking ideas, pretend play and science are all included in this book. Some require more than one person or mom's help, others are good for young kids to do on their own. Excellent resource book for when you need an idea fast. Most of the ideas use around the house supplies.

My only other thought is that I also have Boredom Busters by the same authors and some (NOT a lot, but a few) of the activities are repeated in both books. However there are enough differences in the two books that it might well be worth getting both books.

This is a great book on Sudoku for kids. The book includes 200 puzzles. The puzzles are of various sizes: 4x4, 6x6, and 9x9. The solutions are at the end of the book. There are five levels of difficulty for the puzzles.

The first 19 pages in this book are dedicated for strategy, hints, rules, or tips. All the puzzles in the book are Classic Sudoku (with numbers). There are no Alphabet Sudoku (with letters) or Symbol Sudoku (with shapes and symbols) like the two books "Kindergarten Sudoku" and "Super Sudoku for Kids".

The book seems to be out of print, but it definitely shouldn't be! A great book for beginners and groups. A variety of fun and colorful kites are shown and the introduction and directions are clear and accessible. The author gives tips on launching and decorating the kites, and she includes important safety tips.
