I've been using this simple key since I was a college student in Minnesota over forty years ago. Although I now own several large comprehensive keys, this is the first key I try, even though it may not be spring and I now live in Connecticut. It will usually send me quite easily at least to a family, probably to a genus, getting me through what might be the most annoying portion of my larger keys.

I found myself reading this book through in two sittings. If you like history, personal stories, diaries or the like, you will enjoy this book. I compare it to Jimmy Carter's An Hour Before Daylight in that it gives a picture of rural life in the early part of the century. It is human, candid, and lean in its verbage. It captures all of the emotions and leaves you with mental images that will last a lifetime. Try it.

In an era of urban sprawl and corporate farming, this is a gentle reminder of a world of small towns and kind people. Jackie's experiences growing up on the dairy farm range from laugh-out-loud humorous to tears rolling. "The Round Barn" illustrates what family values truly were before the demogogues got hold of the term: integrity, caring and principles put before profit. The Dougans were--and are--intelligent, hard-working people who have a tremendous joy in living.
The stories are brief enough to read aloud---and deep enough to read again and again with pleasure.

Linda Godfrey scores another perfect Fortean hit!

Linda Godfrey's books never fail to entertain. Her latest literary effort, 'Strange Wisconsin', is certainly no exception. Packed from cover to cover with delightfully curious and unusual information, 'Strange Wisconsin' serves up the most thorough and comprehensive examination of weirdness ever compiled on the Badger State. Ancient puzzles, roadside wonders, local folklore, bizarre natives, haunted houses, inns and taverns, UFO's - can all be found inside this book - and much more. It also offers the reader a veritable menagerie of curious monsters to contemplate; Pig-men and Man-Bats, Lizard -Men and werewolves. Not to mention Bigfoot. Godfrey, the First Lady of Forteana, relies on a stunning array of visual aides to help tell the stories in this one. Hundreds of beautiful color photographs accompany the text, as well as dozens of first-class, lavish illustrations - many by the author herself - which make this book a rousing feast for the eyes as well as the imagination. 'Strange Wisconsin' was simply a joy to read and a must have addition to all Fortean libraries. I highly recommend this book for paranormal fans in every state. 5 stars! Wisconsin is popularly known as the Badger State. It also has a checkered history of eccentrics, paranormal events, oddities, and the macabre. That's just what Linda S. Godfrey (writer, illustrator, and paranormal investigator) has collected, illustrated, and documented in the pages of "Strange Wisconsin: More Badger State Weirdness". This 200 page compendium is a showcase of bizarre stories ranging from pig men, to trolls, to pancakes from space, to the Mormon King of Voree! Profusely illustrated throughout, the text is organized geographically and alphabetically from Abbotsford to the Wisconsin Dells. Offering the reader a unique and phenomenal perspective showcasing all manner of oddities, "Strange Wisconsin" is thoroughly entertaining, occasionally iconoclastic, and highly recommended as a 'must' for all Wisconsin school and community library collections.

I am a teenager who loves books more than anyone I have ever meet or talked to. My Grandma is the author of this book, and it is even more fablous than the woman herself. It was amazing to see her name here at Amazon.com. It felt great. This book is all about the riots of black people in Milwaukee were my Grandma was a interviewer. She experienced first hand of what was going on.... it is a wonderful book!

This book of episodes in the life of Rickel is intimate and authentic to the ear. Reading through it, I was amazed at how he brought to life not only the Arizona of the 50's but the present day. I am not suprised to learn Rickel is a poet; I feel like I just finished a book of verse.

How to take a test, Part I

Ok, one day in elementary school you had your first test. It was only a few questions and the material was easy; but what do you do? Now, I know that the teacher mentioned she wanted you to study the material--but how?
You evolve, and are now a High School student. You have learned that studying is just re-reading the material and doing a few random questions in the chapter reviews. You are doing ok; you have very few complaints about your grades. Ok, maybe one or two.
Now, do you drive across states before taking the class? No. Do you program computers before learning how to type? No. However, you study for a test before you understand what studying really is---How crazy!
Test Taking Strategies was designed to help students study effectively by teaching them how to study properly and effectively in any time frame. This short, compact, and easy-to-read book will help any and every student learn to study correctly and shave hours off thier study time.
I used this book as I was studying for my Network+ certification; at this point, I now have my certification and I am glad I purchased this book (for me, an earlier edition was only $10). This book taught me study techniques as well as test-taking strategies. I was impressed with the simplicity and brevity of the material in the book. Not just a "before you take this test" handout; Test Taking Strategies is a comprehensive manual that will show you how to study.
IMHO, this book is worth triple the price easily!

Written by the assistant professor of history and environmental studies at Western Michigan University, A Thousand Pieces Of Paradise: Landscape And Property In The Kickapoo Valley is an ecological history of property in one of Wisconsin's most famous regions, the Kickapoo Valley. Monitoring the development of Kickapoo property uses and debates through history, from problems of soil erosion and conservation to the rise of local communities including Amish settlements, to modern changes such as the nearly (but not quite) completed La Farge dam, the negotiation process over the rights to deer hunting on the land, and the return of the Ho-Chunk. Extensively researched and carefully documented, A Thousand Pieces Of Paradise is thoroughly accessible to lay readers and scholars alike, and searches past history of Kickapoo Valley's rural ecosystems in hope of offering accurate future predictions of and solutions to future problems for Kickapoo Valley and other lands like it.
