I collect Junior League Cookbooks because they always have the most fabulous recipes, this book is no exception, in fact I really love it! This book has 240 pages and it's contents are in categories such as:
Breads, Breakfast, Appetizers, Salads, Soups, Cold Drinks, Vegetables, Side Dishes, Poultry, Seafood, Meat, Pasta, Desserts, Hot Beverages. Some of the many recipes include Cranberry Bread, Lemon Nut Bread, Apple Bran Muffins, Pumpkin Muffins, Raspberry Streusel Muffins, Swedish Pancakes, Polish Doughnuts, Pecan Breakfast Rolls, Asparagus Quiche, Banana Berry Smoothies, Stuffed Mushrooms, Spinach and Artichokes in Puff Pastry, Coconut Shrimp, Spinach Salad, Chinese Chicken Salad, Chicken and Rice Asparagus Salad, (several dressings for salads), Chicken Ceasar Pasta Salad, Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder, Tortilla Soup, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Apple Butter, Chicken and Spinach Calzones, Chicken Chili, Stuffed Green Peppers, Linguini With Clam Sauce, Eggplant Parmesan, Carrot Cake, Cranberry Almond Pound Cake, Gingerbread Cake, Lemon Cake, Pumpkin Cookies with Caramel Frosting, Apple Rhubarb Pie, Chocolate Pecan Pie, Praline Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Hazelnut Torte, Warm Apple Crisp, Chocolate Espresso Cake, and so much more. When I see reviews on Cookbooks, I love it when the reviewer lists some of the many recipes that can be found in the book, many times I'll purchase a cookbook just for some of the recipes listed in the review. I hope this helps you to get an idea of how many fabulous recipes that can be found in this one, trust me I couldn't even begin to tell you how invaluable this cookbook truly is, you just have to try it! You can get some pretty terrific deals on good used books from private sellers, you just can't go wrong with this one!

What a beautiful and useful book! Most Junior League cookbooks are wonderful, but this one by the Junior League of Birmingham, MI is a true find. I turn to this book often for easy and elegant recipes that are always crowd pleasers. Not a single recipe has disappointed me. The photographs are gorgeous and the cooking tips sprinkled throughout the book are helpful. I like the fact that the recipes all come from real people and that they have all been triple tested--it makes me less nervous to try a new one. Seasons In Thyme also highlights local Michigan flavors, everything from "up north" fare to varied ethinic dishes--it's a great regional cookbook. It makes a useful and beautiful addition to any cook's cookbook collection.

As "user friendly" as it is elegantly impressive

Enhanced with the photography of Jeff Hage, the food stylings of Virginia Hutchins, and the illustrations of Christina Schloss Forhan, Seasons In Thyme: Favorite Recipes & Menus From The Junior League Of Birmingham Michigan showcases more that 225 "triple tested" recipes organized in four seasonal menus sections. Incorporated with useful cooking tips, unique ingredient facts, and interesting Michigan trivia, the recipes are drawn from some of Detroit's most famous restaurants and chefs. From Pear-Stuffed French Toast; Mandarin Orange Salad Dressing; Orzo with Broccoli, Tomatoes and Feta Cheese; and Portuguese Seafood Stew; to Sun-Dried Tomato and Spinach Pasta; Cranberry Almond Pound Cake; Praline Pumpkin Pie; Rack of Lamb with Caramelized Pears and Chestnuts; and Michigan Apple and Cherry Cobbler, Seasons In Thyme is as "user friendly" as it is elegantly impressive.

One of my book club friends loaned me this book and it is a marvel! What an amazing man! His descriptions are seductive and his enthusiasm is infectious. I recommend this book to everyone who loves adventure and is interested in history - obviously these are his tales from his perspective but then what history book isn't in the end. It is just so much fun to read! (You don't have to be young boy - I'm an older woman)

Forgotten book-great for young adventurers.

I read this book when I was about 10 or 11, but it is most suitable for boys 12-14 who are decent readers. It is full of non-stop dering-do and accurately describes the author's real life adventures. I highly recommend it!

Richard Halliburton belongs to a lost generation of adventurer/writers. His books enthralled me sixty years ago and still he does not disappoint. Today it would be politically and geographically impossible to follow in all his footsteps which makes this book (and his others) a modern-day adventure.

Great Place to Visit, Great Cookbook

This is an excellent cookbook.

It is a lot of fun to read combining hisotry and cooking (two of my favorite things)! The history it tells doesn't get bogged down in dates and numbers, but rather the people and a typical home in Southern Louisiana. The cookbook is well organized. The recipes are easy to follow and the results are great. I have only good things to say about this cookbook.

My only be aware comment is that most Cajun cooking requires such yummy foods as shrimp, crab, tasso etc. While some of these are available at the local grocery store, some ingredients (tasso, andouille) are only available in the South or via special order.

Wonderful cookbook. Certainly this is one that will stay on my shelves and will be well used and loved.

One of the All-Time Greats

I want to recommend this book to anyone who loves to cook and loves history. The inserts of pictures and stories of the home makes this one great read. Also, I have recently been able to tour this home. It makes this book come to life. Visit the plantation home in New Iberia, Louisiana when you get the chance and buy this book. I bought it 2 weeks ago while visiting this wonderful home and have made many of the recipes listed. All have turned out fantastic.

This is one of the best cookbooks I have ever bought. The other one was "La Pinata" also by the Junior League of McAllen. The recipes specialize in South Texas cuisine and are very well written.

I received this as a gift when I moved into my first apartment many moons ago.

I have not tried a recipe that didn't receive rave reviews. Many have become "signature" dishes in our household and for pot-luck meals.

A good starting point for good South Texas cooking! I'm considering it as a gift for fellow friends and family who are ex-pat Texans.

Best in South Texas!

This is one of the best cook books that has the best recipes for the type of food served in South Texas, part American and part Mexican. A lot of people like Mexican food but no all Mexican food places prepare the true Mexican food as it should be. The book is self explanatory and simple to follow. Recipes are easy to follow and the ultimate outcome of each dish is absolutely delicious. This has been my favorite cook book since it came out. I also use the cook book published before this one by the Jr. League of McAllen League, Inc. called "La Pinata" which is hard to find nowadays. Try it you will like it.

My long time favorite!

This is the most used and best loved cookbook in my collection. For years, my mother owned a copy and my sister and I would call home after moving away for her to dictate our favorite recipes to us. Finally, we realized that we each needed our own copy. I use this cookbook for almost every meal I cook. There are so many great classic entrees, as well as many great vegetable side dishes that I use daily. The recipes in this cookbook have become my family's favorites. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a well-designed cookbook, with easy to use recipes and classic Southern cuisine.

The Best Junior League Cookbook I've Seen

A friend gave this book to me as a gift and I have enjoyed every recipe I've tried. The selection is unique and not "show-offish" like so many of the League cookbooks are. These are easy to prepare, quick recipes for those of us in the real world who don't want recipes for entertaining, but rather an assortment of good meals for the every day mom who just wants to nurture her family. There is a huge selection here, (over 700 recipes) but my favorites were the "Chidrens' Favorites" and the "Desperate Gourmet" section. Planner in the back is good too. My mother-in-law likes to "read" cookbooks (as if they were novels) and never cooks from them. If you're one of those people, Ma says it's also great for armchair reading.

Very enjoyable! Finally, an all-around great cookbook!

This is the best cookbook I've ever seen! It is wonderfully organized with the best index I've found in any book. Recipes are indexed several different ways which makes locating them a snap. The party planning information is so helpful to figure out how much to make for how many people and the sample occasion menus are much more inventive than I would come up with on my own.

Thanks Jr. Service League of LaGrange, Georgia for such a wonderful book! It's so nice to find great recipes that use ingredients I have in the pantry!

VERY USEFUL ITEM

It's not easy to track minor league baseball cards.

If you are a serious collector, you may recall several years ago the good people at "Beckett" published a monthly called "Future Stars" where cards for minor league baseball players, and various other college athletes, from all sports, were being tracked.

Then, the cardmaker "Classic" (producing massive amounts of ONLY cards featuring minor leaguers, and college athletes) went out of business, and so accordingly "Future Stars" went away.

But there was still a demand to know what the various Classic cards/sets were doing in the market, so Beckett made something called "Vintage" -- a monthly publication that combined listings for cards from the 50s/60s/70s with newer baseball cards from baseball's minor leagues.

So, you had a 1960 Johnny Unitas card tracked in the same magazine with a 1995 Andruw Jones (Macon Braves) card. Strange -- but it worked for me.

Anyway, this guide represents the best overall checklist I've ever seen regarding minor league cards, which is all I collect now. There's just too much product out there once the guys hit the majors.

In any case, the book came out priot to the 2000 season, so values are mostly obsolete. But that doesn't mean you don't still get an accurate checklist for every significant minor league set ever made.

Hope these guys make a new one soon. I'm there.

I collect all of the Red Sox minor league teams, and this book helped me identify all of those team sets, plus provided a name-by-name breakdown of players on all of the prospects and all-star sets. If you are a team collector, you will love this book!

Sports Collectors Digest follows up their 1,664-page "Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards" with another informative price guide, this 480-page guide specifically covers minor league cards. SCD has done their homework with this guide as well, publishing more information on more sets than any other price guides available. I highly recommend this book!

Its unfortunate that FASA never reprinted this sourcebook. The Star League is the basis of the entire Battletech Universe, at least it was before the clans arrived. The information contained therein is incredible. It explains the relationship of the terran hegemony with the other five houses plus a complete examination of the Periphery War which led to the Aramis Usurption. The battletech information will work best the other five original house sourcebook, but this is clearly the best one. For the detailed minded people, the sourcebook goes into detail about every Star League Unit that existed before the collapse and lists what happened after the rebellion. When you take a look at those tables you realize the incredible military power of the Star League. Most units were division sized not just a single regiment. If you ever get a chance to get a copy of the book, definitely consider it.

The definitive historical document for Battletech

Victor is absolutely right. Anything and everything you want to know about the Star League, and the Terran Alliance and Terran Hegemony that preceded it, is in here. I'm one of the lucky few who stumbled onto a copy of it, and it is one book I never let out of my sight.

If there is any complaint I have about it, it is the lack of detail about the Star League's naval forces, but that really is splitting hairs. It is, indeed, a crying shame that this book was never reprinted, and one can only hope that in the future, that is rectified.

I've now made several of the recipes and have found that each one is easy to prepare and outstanding. The Junior League of Tampa has indeed been very generous in sharing their culinary best!

Texas Sampler provides great recipes for the busy life in the 90s while still providing a "home cooked" feel. The recipes are easy to follow with bulleted directions, and many handy tips provided throughout. A great Kids section is provided in the back. Some of my favorites from Texas Sampler - Avocado Pico De Gallo, Fettucini with Grilled Chicken and Sun Dried Tomatoes, Ray's Poblano Shrimp, and Pecan Pie Squares. All simple, and everyone will love! Best of all, the proceeds benefit the community.
