This is the most used and best loved cookbook in my collection. For years, my mother owned a copy and my sister and I would call home after moving away for her to dictate our favorite recipes to us. Finally, we realized that we each needed our own copy. I use this cookbook for almost every meal I cook. There are so many great classic entrees, as well as many great vegetable side dishes that I use daily. The recipes in this cookbook have become my family's favorites. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a well-designed cookbook, with easy to use recipes and classic Southern cuisine.

A friend gave this book to me as a gift and I have enjoyed every recipe I've tried. The selection is unique and not "show-offish" like so many of the League cookbooks are. These are easy to prepare, quick recipes for those of us in the real world who don't want recipes for entertaining, but rather an assortment of good meals for the every day mom who just wants to nurture her family. There is a huge selection here, (over 700 recipes) but my favorites were the "Chidrens' Favorites" and the "Desperate Gourmet" section. Planner in the back is good too. My mother-in-law likes to "read" cookbooks (as if they were novels) and never cooks from them. If you're one of those people, Ma says it's also great for armchair reading.

Very enjoyable! Finally, an all-around great cookbook!

This is the best cookbook I've ever seen! It is wonderfully organized with the best index I've found in any book. Recipes are indexed several different ways which makes locating them a snap. The party planning information is so helpful to figure out how much to make for how many people and the sample occasion menus are much more inventive than I would come up with on my own.

Thanks Jr. Service League of LaGrange, Georgia for such a wonderful book! It's so nice to find great recipes that use ingredients I have in the pantry!

It's not easy to track minor league baseball cards.

If you are a serious collector, you may recall several years ago the good people at "Beckett" published a monthly called "Future Stars" where cards for minor league baseball players, and various other college athletes, from all sports, were being tracked.

Then, the cardmaker "Classic" (producing massive amounts of ONLY cards featuring minor leaguers, and college athletes) went out of business, and so accordingly "Future Stars" went away.

But there was still a demand to know what the various Classic cards/sets were doing in the market, so Beckett made something called "Vintage" -- a monthly publication that combined listings for cards from the 50s/60s/70s with newer baseball cards from baseball's minor leagues.

So, you had a 1960 Johnny Unitas card tracked in the same magazine with a 1995 Andruw Jones (Macon Braves) card. Strange -- but it worked for me.

Anyway, this guide represents the best overall checklist I've ever seen regarding minor league cards, which is all I collect now. There's just too much product out there once the guys hit the majors.

In any case, the book came out priot to the 2000 season, so values are mostly obsolete. But that doesn't mean you don't still get an accurate checklist for every significant minor league set ever made.

Hope these guys make a new one soon. I'm there.

I collect all of the Red Sox minor league teams, and this book helped me identify all of those team sets, plus provided a name-by-name breakdown of players on all of the prospects and all-star sets. If you are a team collector, you will love this book!

Sports Collectors Digest follows up their 1,664-page "Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards" with another informative price guide, this 480-page guide specifically covers minor league cards. SCD has done their homework with this guide as well, publishing more information on more sets than any other price guides available. I highly recommend this book!

This cookbook is loaded with great recipes! I love the fact that the preparation and cooking time is listed after each recipe. It also includes color pictures! There is such a wide-range of recipes from all over the state of Florida such as Greek, Spanish, Italian and Cuban cuisine. As a member of the Junior League of Tampa and the Cookbook Chairman, I love this book!

After several outstanding meals at my friend's home, I asked for a few of her recipes . . . when she informed my that they all came from "Tampa Treasures," I decided to try and get my hands on a copy. I've now made several of the recipes and have found that each one is easy to prepare and outstanding. The Junior League of Tampa has indeed been very generous in sharing their culinary best!

Texas Sampler provides great recipes for the busy life in the 90s while still providing a "home cooked" feel. The recipes are easy to follow with bulleted directions, and many handy tips provided throughout. A great Kids section is provided in the back. Some of my favorites from Texas Sampler - Avocado Pico De Gallo, Fettucini with Grilled Chicken and Sun Dried Tomatoes, Ray's Poblano Shrimp, and Pecan Pie Squares. All simple, and everyone will love! Best of all, the proceeds benefit the community.

It seems that Mr. Cluck has hit upon his focus points in such a way that coaches, parents, and the players can all take something away and, consequently, grow in their understanding of the game.

"Think Better Baseball" is an easy read. Mr. Cluck uses a well organized approach, simple language, ample pictures and diagrams, and a generous number of situations for all players at bat or on defense. Mr. Cluck provides ample thoughtful material that I will revisit in February, just before our season starts.

This is excellent for high school and college. Although much of it can be used for lower levels as well, most of it caters to more experienced players. There are many examples of how to get the best out of practice and out of a team. Well laid out and easy to read, very good information, recommended.

Bob Cluck must be the greatest all-around Instructor in baseball. I have read all of his books and used them as my bibles to teach baseball at the high school level. I have won 8 consecutive league titles using the fundamentals and advanced mechanics found in Play Better Baseball and Think Better Baseball. Think Better Baseball is just what I needed to advance my coaching skills to the next level.

Cluck did it again.

Good book about the all around climate of the Negro Leagues

Review Date: 2006-12-28
If you read the title of this book you might think you are getting a detailed account of the the life of Norman "Turkey" Stearnes and the Detroit Stars, like you get from other books dedicated to a player's life, but this book is different. The story is more about the general environment of the Negro Leagues and race relations in the United States from 1919 to 1933. Great interviews with former Negro Leaguers and fans abound in this book, and the reader will get an idea of what life was like for both players and owners at this time. Readers will not only see Turkey Stearnes, but other greats such as Oscar Charleston, Ted Radcliffe, Andy Cooper, James Bell, Bill Petway, and Josh Gibson. The rosters and season stats for the Detroit Stars at the back of the book will be particularly interesting for anyone researching these players, and there are plenty of great photos as well.

Mr. Bak provides the reader with an insightfull, yet entertaining historical account of a segment of Americana that is too often over looked. A must read for diehard baseball fans, or anyone sincerely interested in either the history of Detroit in general or of baseball in Detroit.

I am Turkey Stearnes' oldest daughter and I think that the book clearly shows that these guys were very great and my dad was the greatest of all time and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. This book helps to give him the recognition that he so justly deserves. I'm sorry that he is not here to see all that is happening with the Negro League players. This has been a long time coming. Thank You Mr. Bak.

My son has post-it notes all over this book so that whenever either (or both) of us travels out-of-town for work or pleasure we can plan which team(s) to visit. The directions are mostly accurate, the descriptions vivid and history very interesting. Our main comment is that the author should have made this a loose-leaf edition and issue updates periodically. Highly recommended to baseball fans of all ages.

Clearly a labor of love, this books gets to the heart of the minor league experience, rating the food, mascots, seats and campy promotions that make the bush leagues so special...and it does all that in the framework of a helpful travel guide, while also providing the full history of every minor league team and ballpark. I also really enjoy looking at all of the great photos of the minor league parks across the country. A must read that was long over due for baseball fans...enjoy!

This is a fantastic book. Lots of great recipes with new adaptions to ones that have been around for awhile. Using a different spice or combining of various ingredients gives news twists to old standbys and favorites. I am an avid reader of cookbooks and don't have that much time to cook now that my family is grown and left the nest, but with this book, I am very anxious to get back in the kitchen and create some new and exciting things. Cookbooks by Jr. Leagues always have some of the very best recipes and this one is certainly no exception. Highly recommend whether just for reading, or looking for something new and different.

I love cookbooks and own a lot of them. I bought this book two years ago and have given many copies as gifts to peple who like to cook. My family loves the recipes. We made some of the recipes for my niece's wedding brunch in Denver last year and the guests raved about the food. The recipes and instructions are well-written and the results are great.

Of all the regional cookbooks I own, this is one of my favorites! This cookbook has great suggestions for things to take to different gatherings from Gold Cup Horse Races to Neighborhood Picnics. I especially love the tips and suggestions at the bottom of the recipes. So far, I have tried about 20 recipes and all of them have been fabulous! The recipes are clear and easy to follow. This book is a necessity for delicious homemade treats to impress your friends. It also makes a great bridal shower and teacher gift.
