John Sanful's work is extremely well researched and informative and sheds light on an important development of not only Soviet hockey but of hockey in general. The fall of the Iron curtain and the exodus to the NHL has resulted in a blurring of the canadian school vs. the Soviet school and hockey has thus followed globalisation into the path of homogenisation The history of the final years of the USSR is a immensly compelling read and the clearly written style of Sanful's work provides for easy reading. A very informative book and a must buy not only for hockey fans but for anyone with a sociological interest in the final years of what was the USSR

This is a comforting book about the warm relationship between a grandfather and his grandson, and sharing the love of hockey. The author manages to capture the exhilirating sights and sounds at a hockey game so accurately and the emotions of Matt and his grandad so vividly. Together with the whimsical drawings and colours, it all adds up to a delightful book that we all enjoy.

I enjoyed the easy reading with this book. It gets the point across without having to delve into all the stats of the season and playoffs. Its game by game look during the playoffs is great. My favorite part was the opening chapter about Steve Yzerman. Gordie Howe's introduction was also enlightening. Some excellent pictures are included as well.

Subtle is the enforcer for the Wolfbay wings. Every one see him as a goon because he loves to knock people of the puck skating full speed, this helps the team score a lot of goals. But when the coach changes the lines around Subtle sees that he has to play clean. But now the team is losing. Read the book and see what happens.

This book and the other Wolfbay Wings books a great for young hockey players and fans to read. I enjoyed them.

Hockey is Ray Hockaday's life. He has dreams of the NHL - serious dreams. Known for playing smart, he's the center for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Unfortunately his new coach seems to know his secret. Ray is scared. The brutal, physical side of hockey terrifies him, but according to the coach it's all part of the game and he better show he can handle it.

It turns out that the scary, physical stuff is not going to be isolated to just the hockey rink for Ray. Vlad, a Russian teammate, is suddenly the center of some frightening, unwanted attention. Vlad also has a secret - one that seems to be hidden in his mouth. Ray finds himself in the middle of international intrigue including thugs, car chases, and secret documents.

TIGER THREAT is edge of your seat, hold on to your hat action. Written in the high interest, lower reading level style, Sigmund Brouwer takes readers into hockey action and mystery/spy thriller adventure all at the same time. This quick read might be just the thing to hook reluctant readers and get them ready for more.

Waynes World
The book review of Frank Fortuanos "Wayne Gretzky: star center

Frank Fortuanos "Wayne Gretzky star center is a marvelous book full of facts and career statistics of Wayne Gretzky. He tells a great story of his upbringing and even why he tucks his jersey in one side. But, the book does slow down. When he gets into a career it is repetitive to some degree. In each chapter he tells how many points he had in that season, and how hard he worked to win the Stanley cup. But it gives a great story of his life. I highly recommend it to anyone who is doing a report on him

Lovely Images, Not Much Info

This book has some of the loveliest photographs that I have seen. Most of the images are full page size, with several two-page spreads. This is the perfect book for anyone wanting pictures of bobcats, lynx, or pumas, however, there is not a great deal of information provided. I would personaly refer anyone looking for a wealth of information on these cats to ~Forest Cats of North America: Cougar, Bobcat, Lynx~ by Jerry Kobalenko. Nonetheless, Savage's images ~are~ superior to Kobalenko's, so the buyer should take into consideration what they are looking for. I, for one, am glad to have both.

This is truly a spectacular book that I use frequently for reference. Although there are some minor historical errors within the book this does not take away from the importance this book carries as it portrays many players that you would not be able to read about otherwise.
