I moved to Manhattan two years ago to begin my first post-collegiate job. I ran competitively in college and thought that running would be the easiest, not to mention most convenient, way to stay in shape once I had entered the working world. However, I ran into one problem...well, maybe two, or three, or four. It's dark before work and it's dark after work. It's too cold, too hot, and/or too cozy under my covers. Without my college teammates expecting me at practice, the motivation to get out and run was less than lacking. Walking past the Barnes and Noble in Lincoln square, I noticed a copy of The Chelsea Piers Fitness Solution in the window. I had heard of Chelsea Piers, but never really took the time to explore its offerings. So, I went into Barnes and Noble and browsed through the book. Needless to say, I bought a copy. I've also done some research on the Chelsea Piers website to find classes for the sports that seem to best match my personality and found out that the Field House at Chelsea Piers offers evening adult gymnastics and rock-climbing classes for all levels. So, it turns out you don't have to be a kid to enjoy exercise and make physical fitness fun! I definitely recommend this book for anyone who's sick of the treadmill and is ready for a change to make this year's New Year's resolution stick.

It brought back great memories of a great friend. I read the book in one day---couldn't put it down. If you have ever followed a sports icon, you will appreciate the candor and style of this book. I was fortunate to have known Eddie during his Pittsburgh days and this book documents the man and his mission well----to bring the fan into the game.

A great read.

Hockey coaching books are a dime a dozen. Very few give coaches at all levels a step-by-step guide on how to do it right. If you need a personal coach to guide you on how to get it right, John Meagher's "Coaching Hockey" is the right book for you.

The Definitive World Hockey Association Book

Review Date: 2008-06-29
Finally, we have a book that accurately chronicles the late, great, World Hockey Association. This book is a complete statistical record of the renegade league's seven year history. And the narrative/commentary is factual, unlike some other books written about the WHA that are less than accurate due to faded memories of those being interviewed.
Of special note is "The Teams of the World Hockey Association" chapter that details each teams's history.
This book is a "must have" for not only fans who are old enough to remember the WHA, but also for younger fans who need to know how much the current NHL is still influenced by the trends/direction that the WHA set into motion.

Old Fashioned Love Story
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-11
What's not to like about a book that includes a little mystery, a little romance, a little hockey, and a little good old fashion religion? Set in the quaint town of Budd Lake, New Jersey, the story of Andi and Jonsey is one that will make you want to keep reading, chapter after chapter, long after the candle on your nightstand burns itself out!

The characters in this book remind you of people that you have known and loved, like the people who might live in your own neighborhood or worship with you in your own congregation. Bruce Campanella makes us realize that even a first time writer can tell an incredible tale and satisfy his readers!

One of the most entertaining pieces I have ever read

Weaver's Crimes and Confessions is beautifully written, with characters that immediately pop as real people, each struggling with their own secrets and goals. With themes encompassing coming-of-age, alcoholism, secret powers, search for religion, hallucinations, marital troubles, family conflict, Weaver invites you in to everyday life in hokey-loving Devil Lakes, Minnesota. At times laugh-out-loud hilarious and at times touching, Weaver writes in colloquialisms of the region. Weaver leaves the reader feeling as if he knows these characters, and continuing the story of their lives in their own minds.

I loved this publication, especially the reviews of various games from the regular season, along with many good quality color photos from the games and of the team. It was a great way to recap the championship season of the Stanley Cup winners of 1999, and to keep the memories forever. "'99 NHL CHAMPS" is recommended reading (by me) for all Stars fans and hockey fans alike.
