This is an extremely well researched book regarding the African-American film industry, which is a very neglected area of the business. I highly recommend it.

Blood Money, part three of the trilogy Dead or Alive, brings new and old characters together. Realistic and believable, people with personality step from the pages... I recommend all three in the trilogy...

NOT ABOUT HART!

Review Date: 2002-09-02
As usual I liked this Ralph Cotton book. However, it is very much more about Jake Coak, Quick Charlie Simms and Kate McCorkle than it is Sullivan Hart and Twojack Roth. J. T. Priest has been set free and Judge Parker sends Coak, Simms, Hart and Roth out to destroy Priest and his gang, Los Pistoleros. The first part of the book is devoted to Coak bringing in wanted outlaws then when the four of them are to go after Priest, Coak and Simms take over and have nearly all the action. I did enjoy the book, it is a very good western, just not really about Hart. Jake Coak is great, I hope he show up again with his automatic sawed off rifle. A rare thing to see. Did not like the part of Simms as I think he was a lier most of the time. A fast read, will hold you attention and you won't want to put it down. A few funny places as Priest and his gang to blow a safe and blow up nearly every thinging else instead.

A fantastic true story that has exposed the UN for there own incompetence and corruption. This is not a political book, but one of fact, and of sorrow. Once you pick this book up you will not want to put it down. The central character of the book is a real life entrupener David Morris and what an unbeleivable character he is, what he acheived in Somalia on just a few hundred thousnd dollars, put to shame the UN who spent over 1 billion dollars. This book should be a major motion picture, but I suspect the UN would never allow it to happen.

The U.N. follies

"Blood Money" is a tragic example of how, as the old saying goes, "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions." New Zealander David Morris went to Somalia with the idea of making some money as a contractor for the U.N. as the U.N. tried to save the country from starvation and anarchy. While the U.N. fed the people, Morris's company fed the U.N. As chronicled by fellow countryman and reporter Trisha Stratford, somewhere along the way Morris decided to do what he could to help the Somali people. For his trouble and due in part to U.N. bungling, he ended up dead. In the context of the greater disaster that was the U.N. mission to Somalia, Morris's death might seem only a small part. But the trouble he and his company had with the World body are lessons that need to be learned if the U.N. is ever going to be an effective force for international intervention. This book is an excellent journalistic account of bureaucratic failure.

As I do with a lot of purchases, I browsed through this book in a bookstore, then ordered it from Amazon. In my brief scan, I could tell it contained some nuggets worth ingesting. This is not a long book- it's a short read, but Mr. Roberts quickly hits every nail on the head. I do wish he had expanded even more on some of the topics, but keeping it short will make it easy to read again and again, for the things he tells you must be learned and practiced and become habits, and that does not not come without repetition. Reinventing yourself (if you have to go that far..and most of us do) takes more than a quick read of the rules and just saying, "Okay, now I'll do that
My editor eye couldn't help but notice a few typos but I was able to dismiss them and focus on the good information.
One word of warning, the author uses the "D" word and the "C" word....discipline and commitment.

As a young couple, this book is a valuable asset. It helped us establish ourselves and create long-term goals for our future with our new home and home equity options. This is the first book review I have written, and was motivated to do so because this book saved me time, money and needless worrying about whether we were making smart choices.

This is a great book. I recommended this book to my daughter's boyfriend, who has large school debts, among other people. Now if you want to see your debts as heavy, difficult to pay off, a burden, well don't get this book. If you want to see your debts as light, easy to pay off, this is a good book for you. Edwene Gaines paid off $60,000 in credit card debt run up by an ex-husband, in about 4 months, using similar methods. In the Newtonian/Cartesian world we grew up in, ideas like this weren't possible. In the new Quantum Mechanics world we are entering, these ideas will soon be the norm. If you have debts and you can't imagine how you're going to pay them off, it's very simple: get this book. Today. Hey, I live in New England. It's spring now, with greenery that was unimaginable just a month ago. And that is exactly how you'll feel, once you get the lessons of this book absorbed. The author writes from direct experience, she's not throwing other people's theories out without trying them. You know, when a critical mass of people start using ideas like those in this book, the entire planet will make a quantum leap into something far, far better than what we see now. You wouldn't be reading this if you didn't have personal issues, though... and this book is great for those issues. It is possible to end physical addictions by alkalinizing, in less than a week, physical addictions are based on acidic body pH. This book is the same thing for being in debt. I used her methods myself, to get out of some problems I had with the Visa Monster, and I don't have those problems now. I feel so very much better.

You won't find happiness in the shopping mall

Love of money is the cause of much evil, according to St. Paul. Americans love money and they certainly love spending it. The result is huge personal and national debt growing at an alarming rate. It is ironic that the richest country in the world is being subsidised by the rest of the world to the tune of some $700,000 million dollars a year, or 7% of GDP.

For what? Many people work long hours at jobs they don't enjoy, to earn money they don't really need, to buy things they don't really want to impress people they don't like!

Michael Phillips' book is a powerful antidote to this lunacy. Once one's material needs are met, more and more does NOT increase happiness - quite the reverse. The word 'enough' has been forgotten! I strongly recommend this book.

Don't be a slave to money

This book sets out in great style and plain language how we can get control of our lives by freeing ourselves from our addiction to money. We work harder and harder to earn more and more money to buy goods we don't really want, and which won't make us happy. There are many books on the market telling us how to get rich - as if money is all that matters, and what we should devote our lives to getting. Michael Phillips explains how we can find happiness by NOT making money the most important thing in our lives - try kindness and helping others, for example. As soon as I finished reading Boycott Money I went back to the beginning and read it again and bought copies for my son and daughter.

I only have a few minutes now. Hopefully I will get around to a more detailed review later.
This is indeed an unusual book. If you have an interest in the secretive world of bank note manufacturing, you should read this book. It is fairly easy to read and interesting. It is not very technical so you do not have to worry about that, unless that is what you wanted. Unfortunately, it is now a scarce book, but it is in a fair number of libraries so you should be able to borrow one to read. There once was a plan for a second edition, but that plan seems to have died.

This was a fabulous book. I am addicted to BudgetYes. It changed my life -- I paid off $10,000 of credit card debt in 6 months and actually look forward to paying my bills each month. For anyone who doesn't necessarily have money "problems" but who knows they ought to learn to live within a budget and wants to set a good example for their children, this is the perfect book. I've given a copy to my sister and my mother. If I could find a diet book that worked as well, I'd be in heaven.

In BudgetYes! you will find solutions to your problems of wandering funds, missing money and unorganized finances. A well explained, detailed and illustrated book that lays it on the table and will help you to get organized with your money and account for every dime. Inside you will not only find well orchestrated instructions, but examples of all of the different layouts you will need to begin to get a grip on your finances. The concepts used here are very similar to the principals of accounting, yet they are explained in a way that you don't need to be a C.P.A. to understand them. I highly recommend this book for anything from getting a grip on your money to setting up a complete household budget. Well done!

This book is a great read for anyone interested in acheiving financial independence at an early age. The author speaks from an "in the trenches" perspective, as he has obtained his financial goals through the easy to understand principles outlined in the book. Although written for police officers, the material presented transcends that demographic and can be applied to anyone. An enjoyable, quick read!

I received the book as a gift. It is written in a down to earth easy to understand way. It is unlike any other finiancal guide I have ever seen. As a retired police officer, I only wish that this book was available when I was still on the job. Just using some of the ideas the author presents would have made retirement more confortable. I strongly recomend this book be mandated reading, by all police departments, for all new police officers. If you are still on the job GET the book it! You won't regret it.
