It really sucks that this book is no longer available. Lionel Haines is one of the few authors I have ever read, who talked about getting some kind of business other than a SUBWAY shop, MAILBOXES ETC., or KINKO'S COPY. He talks about getting real businesses like machine shops and computer chip recycling. He gives ideas on how to find out how to find out about the business if you know nothing about it. It's a shame he passed away. I would have liked to have met him.

Best book ever written on business buying

This 8 step process covers all the necessary issues incountered when buying a decent business where you can earn a handsome living like say $300,000 per year. This book is like a mini MBA on business analysis and strategy for dealing with the seller, financing sources, new employees, due diligence, determining if the business is right and professionals like CPAs and Attorneys. I especially like the stategy for dealing with a seller who does not yet know that they should and want to sell there busines. This book should be thoroughly studied and analyzed paying special attention to the exact words used by Mr. Haines. He is a master. I have read this book about 50 times and every time I get something more from it. I am a CPA and now know that I am deal savy and could easily employ these procedures for a client.

One of three trading books you have to read!

After reading two other books by Justin Mamis, I was excited to read this one. When to Sell: Inside Strategies for Stock-Market Profits and The Nature of Risk were two extraordinary books on trading. This author knows what he is talking about and really relates tough topics in an easy to read fashion.

My opinion is if you trade, you need to read all three of these books.

This book, "How to Buy", covers everything you need to make your decisions and pull the trigger on a trade. He explains what to look for, how to gauge the strength or weakness in a stock, how to gauge the attraction for other traders, and how to get in on that stock as it is being accumulated.

Why would you buy a stock that may not do anything for you? Get one that is showing the signs of moving where you want it to go. Justin talks about buying sensibly and not emotionally. He also talks in depth about when NOT to buy. That topic alone could save you a fortune on your next stock pick.

Great series of Books.

I can't say enough about the series of When to Buy, When to Sell, and The Nature of Risk. Ironically, I bought the When to Sell years ago, read it and shelved it. It's pages would have saved me a bundle over the past year. As the worst seems to be behind us, knowing when to get back in is key. Simply written with great examples, make this book a must own.

This and 'When to sell' should be required reading

From covering all the thoughts that go through ones heads at the time of pressing the trigger, to all the consequences of these thoughts. Everything is covered in this book.
Then it helps one create a strategy for buying based on facts rather than emotions.

I would recommend this book and When to Sell above most books about trading.

How to Do Financial Asset Investigations: A Practical Guide for Private Investigators, Collections Personnel, and Asset Recovery Specialists

Easy to understand
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-08-11
This book is on financial asset investigations. The reader must have some knowledge of the reader's legal system, privacy laws, handling confidential information, general accounting, reading financial statements, and what to do after you find the assets. This book is not for the average person that does not have this knowledge. That said, this book is a great addition for the professional's library. The author tried to cover as much information as she could but this book doesn't "hold your hand" and tell you what to do after you find the assets. Finding assets also does not mean they are worth anything. The reader must then investigate further into the true value of the asset before proceeding forward. Even those with extensive knowledge will learn something from within this book.

Truly One Of A Kind...

Review Date: 2004-12-04
As a licensed private investigator that is experienced in asset investigations, I can personally tell you that this is truly the only book of its kind. I would like to personally thank Mr. Ronald L. Mendell, BS, CLI for writing such a complete and long overdue text on this vital topic. Mendell does an excellent job of describing a systematic method for utilizing various resources/information sources to construct a detailed financial profile of the SUBJECT of the investigation.

Asset investigations are time consuming and arduous. Often, one small piece of information can be the key to uncovering a wealth (sometimes literally) of information regarding the SUBJECT. Even an experienced investigator will benefit from this text merely by employing it to insure that all bases have been covered.

Forget what you know or you think you know about asset investigations. This book is the real deal for legal (emphasis added) asset investigations. To date, I have not found another book on this topic that comes or even appears to come close to providing the same level of information. If you perform or would like to learn how to conduct asset investigations, I would not hesitate for one second to add this text to your investigative library.

As a final note, if you plan on performing any type of asset investigation, I highly encourage you to thoroughly research the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999 (also known as the GLB) via the Internet. Excellent knowledge of this legislation could mean the difference between a lucrative career as an asset investigator or an excellent career as a resident of your local state correctional facility - no joke. Good luck!

As always, check with your local library or bookstore to see if you can read/review this or any title before deciding to make a purchase. This method has effectively allowed me to make the most of my investigative library budget.

I hope you found this review helpful. If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact me via email at MichaelBeltz@FALI.com. Respectfully submitted, MB.

Mendall is essential reading for financial investigators
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 1996-12-18
In this seminal textbook for conducting asset searches, Mendall's provides the tools for analyzing a subject's financial situation. The emphasis here is on painstaking research in public records to develop a detailed portrait of the subject. Every investigation of this kind starts in the local courthouse with hard work, meticulous attention to detail, careful notes, and other not-so-glamorous means of retrieving, organizing, and analyzing information in order to provide intelligence to a collection attorney. Using the techniques in this book, one can locate real property, business, bank accounts and other asset for postjudgment execution. I highly recommend this book. It is always on my shelf and I find myself consulting it repeatedly. I only wish that Mendall had included more case studies

I read this book on vacation some years ago. It is very good, very folksy and commonsense. Written by a man in the trust department of the Harris Bank. He got the opportunity to interact and dispense advice to people who had made large sums of money already.

A good book with a poor title.

I still have the paper back copy of this book that I bought back in 1989. Its pages are worn from being read over and over.
The advice given in this book is good, common sense investing advice that will stand the test of time. The only times I have gotten in trouble with my investments is when I failed to follow his advice. Thanks in part to this book I was able to retire back in 1996 at the age of 56. I'm still retired and enjoying it. Two other books that helped me were "Work Less & Play More" by Steven Catlin and "Cashing in on the American Dream" by Paul Terhorst.

Read This Book Now!

A more accurate title for this book might be "Prudent Financial Management: How to Feel Good About Yourself When You Reach 50." Please read it all the way to the end (a mere 180 pages) before passing judgment on its values or wisdom.

This is the insider advice that a shrewd, experienced, brutally honest, and wealthy grandfather would give to his favorite grandchild upon graduation from college. I wish someone had explained all this to me when I was 22 or 25 or 30.

Now that I am well passed 50, I recommend this book to you in the hope it will contribute to the happiness of your life. Read it now; read it ten years from now and every decade following. You will appreciate its good sense more and more as years pass.

For anyone looking for information or just curious about the economic effects of privatization, Prajapati Trivedi's book is a fascinating manual for practitioners. Being an Economics major in college, I truly appreciate the information provided by this world-class economist and brilliant educator.

Insights from a Privatization Consultant

Review Date: 2001-07-26
Privatization has become a popular strategy to promote economic development in emerging, developing, and developed economies. Despite the growing trend towards privatization and all the valuable ideas and literature generated by privatization experts, little attention has been devoted to the actual implementation and completion of privatization transactions. "How to Implement Privatization Transactions" filled this gap... with brilliance! Trivedi has brought to bear his considerable experience and expertise in chapters by answering critically important questions such as: How to prepare a public announcement for inviting expressions of interest? How to prepare a request for proposal? How to organize a preproposal bidders conference? How to organize evaluation of bids? How to prepare a position paper on strategic options for privatization? Trivedi goes a step further than most in his penultimate chapter by dealing with select issues related to implementation of a proposed privatization transaction. This 250 page practical guide is an easy read, and is expertly packaged with sample forms and tables; sample outlines and documents; sample prequalification advertisements; as well as "how-to-information" that guides step-by-step those charged with implementing privatization transactions. This is an essential and invaluable guide to public policymakers, as well as those attending or organizing privatization training programs and those who serve as privatization consultants. Highly recommended!

Essential Reading for All Privatizers and Beyond

Praja Trivedi once again wrote a very important book which needs to be at the fingertips of all privatizers (those working for the governments, development agencies and/or the private sector) so that they can all follow this meticulously explained and yet user friendly road map to get good results. Moreover, the politicians, members of the media and even the ordinary citizens in privatizing countries would benefit enormously from reading this book if they are willing to understand the best practice process and become better informed and equipped to support or intervene if things go wrong. I wish I had a book like that to follow earlier in my career. But it is never too late. I am grateful for Trivedi's continued willingness and energy to share his expertise.

Review Date: 2007-11-01
It's has been very difficult trying to find books for my twin 8yr old daughters.

I wanted a series of books with the star character being an African American girl just having fun and doing kid stuff. A book that will make them know that reading is fun. This book does just that and more.

I only wish that there were more of them because I already bought them all.

If you're looking for a great chapter book for an African American girl, then author Valerie Wilson Wesley's series of "Willimena Rules" is it.

Also try, Gloria Rising and Gloria's Way by Ann Cameron.

Girl Scout at Heart

Review Date: 2007-02-07
Willimena is the top seller of Girl Scout cookies in her troop, but has spent her cookie money. She thought that she was doing a good thing using the money to buy her poor friends lunch each day, but now she has to come up with the money she owes the Girl Scouts. She tryes to make money with a lemonade stand and having a pet show, but each is a laughable failed attempt. She realizes what she has to do and fesses up.
I really like how Valerie Wesley uses the Girl Scout law to provide a rationale for Willimena'a actions. This book is very well written for girls that are in elementary school and involved with the Girl Scout program. I really enjoyed this book and the ways that Willimena tries to make up the money she spent. It is soemthing every girl her age would think to do. I have done some of the same projects myself when I was about her age. It really is a book that even I could relate to and I'm sure that any girl involved in Girl Scouts would also enjoy.

This Book is absolutely riviting! "How To Make Big Money Grooming Small Dogs!" lies next to my bed at night, and before I doze off I read another interesting chapter. I have really learned a lot about styling Poodle faces, and my friends have commented on how lovely my dogs look. I have followed the proceedures and details step by step. I'm not ready for a dog show yet, but my doggies are the best on the block.

Thanks to the author, for a facinating, well illustrated, practical book.

My interest in learning Dog Grooming has been with me most of my life, but being a single mother it was an impossible dream to go away to school to learn it. By my purchasing this book, and studying it, and purchasing an inexpensive clipper, and practicing on my own toy poodle it was enough to give me the confidence to apply for a groomer trainee position at a local kennel/grooming shop. They are putting me on payroll, on a part time basis for now.

Anyway, the purpose of my writing this is to tell you that without this book I know I would never had gotten this far. I can never thank the author enough. This book is EXCELLENT! It covers every topic!

I am usually sceptical of books that make big promises, but "How to Make Big Money Grooming Small Dogs" is a winner. I've always wanted to be a groomer, but couldn't afford the cost of a grooming school. Well I'm here to tell you that this book is all you need. Nine months ago I couldn't even hold a clipper, and now I have my own profitable mobil grooming business!

This book is clearly written, beautifully illustrated, and easy to follow. Best of all, the author generously reveals numerous trade secrets and sources of unique equipment to save you time and money. I highly recommend this excellent "how to" guide to current and would-be groomers alike. If you ever thought of going into the dog grooming business, this book is the ticket!

Here's the bottom line: If you are serious about spending less, saving more and accumulating wealth, buy, read and follow the recommendations of this book. Brooks-Rolling presents practical advice in an easy-to-read, down-to-earth and entertaining format. You'll see my endorsement on the back cover of the book jacket; that's how much I believe in the principles and practices Brooks-Rolling preaches. It's not a coincidence that much of her content is consistent with the 10 principles of Black Enterprise magazine's Declaration of Financial Empowerment. If you are truly committed to laying the foundation for multigenerational wealth, here's a great place to begin.

Brake the chains of slavery!

Review Date: 2006-04-24
Some say that wealth is power. If that is true, then very few of us have any power at all. Perhaps that old saying should be changed to say, "Those who know how to manage their finances have power." It is true that some people have a gift of financial wisdom but others must be taught. I believe, although Me'Shae Rolling has had many life experiences that have affected her finances, that she has the gift. She also has a servants heart which causes her to share her gift with others.

It would be difficult to navigate the waters of life without credit but let's face it, many of us are just working to pay off our lenders. The more lenders you have borrowed from the more enslaved you have become. Owing money is the new slavery but those chains can be broken.

Me'Shae has written a practicle, no nonsense, book. She suggests taking a calm methodical approach to eliminating your debt instead of the running around, tearing your hair out, helter skelter way of wondering what to do. Sit down, take a breath, read the book and let a cooler head prevail. Your situation will not become cured overnight but that's okay. It took time to get yourself in all the debt so it will take time to get out of.

Here are just some of the Chapters:

Being Disorganzied Costs You Money
Your W2 Form... Is It Accurate?
Mortgage PrePayments
Assess Needs vs. Wants vs. Desires
Time Your Purchases
Credit Reports & Fico Scores
Teaching Our Youth Financial Literacy

If you are truly tired of working everyday just to hand your check over to "The Man" on payday then you need this book. I reccomend this book highly as one who has recently gotten off of the credit train. I suggest following Me'Shae instructions step by step and learn how to use CASH. That's right, CASH. You'll be happier in the years to come that you took the time to learn the lessons that Mrs. Brooks-Rolling teaches. I encourage you to not only purchase a copy of this book but share it with your friends and family. Share the Power and be blessed!
