Maira Kalman has a wonderful wit and a tremendous artistic style. It is great when you find a book that appeals to the kids as well as the adults. Her seemingly simple paintings are at second glance alive with color and depth. Check out all her stuff.

This is a delightful, creative book full of energy, imagery, and language. I think it is more for adults than children and would make an excellent gift for any artist or writer who must work at his day job while dreaming of "Paree"! Kalman's visual images are imaginative and fun.

"The Mint on Carson Street" is the ultimate reference guide for Carson City coins. It provides descriptions, pedigrees, populations, mintages and more on each of the 111 coins in the CC set (plus a few special varieties). It has become my personal reference tool and I find myself using it on almost a daily basis. On that subject alone, this book is unparalleled and while it is all that, it is oh so much more. Rusty Goe's crafty writing virtually takes you on a time machine ride as he recounts the glorious history of those lives and times (late 1860's through the mid 1890's) via both story and pictures. When you buy this book, it is like you're getting six great books in one. It is a fascinating read for everyone. The "Gilded Age"....The "Old West"...."CC Coins"....The Comstock Lode"....If you are a passionate fan on any one or all of those subjects, there is a pretty good chance you have already read this book. If you haven't read it, or you are not one of those persons, pick up a copy today, read it and by the time you are finished, you will be!

A book that demands your attention.

Rusty Goe's new book describing the history of The Carson City Mint and its coinage is a MUST read for collectors of these coins. Rusty tells how to build valuable sets of CC coins and gives a history of their price appreciation. Rarity and pedigree information are included. Great READ!

Book is about much more than coins from Carson City

There are books on mint products from the Carson City Mint and there are books on the history of Nevada but there has never been a book that so expertly weaves together the stories of the people who made significant events come to pass, the political climate of the post-Civil War United States and territories that were not yet states, Congressional action and reaction to the economy and the contentious matter of money backed by either precious metals or paper, the trials and challenges of a start-up assaying and coining operation, all in the exciting context of the Comstock Lode phenomenon and the mining industry that changed the west.

This book is written with unmistakable passion for the benefit of Comstock and Carson City enthusiasts. But it will be highly regarded by historians, numismatists, coin and memorabilia collectors, scholars, and every investor who may want to become acquainted with the pleasurable pursuit of a truly scarce and sought after tangible collectible. The book also contains statistical information and insights into surviving populations of coins in relation to the quantities originally minted. It has taken a place of prominence among the books I own.

I received this book as a gift and was only expecting it to be a synopsis of Carson City coins. I was not expecting all of the wonderful history! It is a fascinating read as well as being so informative. I really enjoyed reading about so many of the people who influenced not only Carson City and Nevada history, but United States history, as well. In the back is a complete guide to all of the coins minted in Carson City.
The book itself is quite beautiful, inside and out. It contains many pictures of historical people and places. The cover is so nice, you will not want to stash it in your bookcase, but place it on the coffee table for others to enjoy (and envy!)
Thanks again, Mom and Dad, for the beautiful book!

The Carson City coinsthat intrigue us today serve to memorialize the prominent--and not so well known--deeds which occurred between the Civil War and the turn of the century. During this era of giant personalities, the growing pains of the nation created both hardship and jubilant excess in a brand new Nevada (Halloween, 1864).
This phenomenon of the old west is lovingly presented by Rusty Goe in THE MINT ON CARSON STREET. Though little-known outside numismatic circles Rusty has delved into every cranny of the period, all the while becoming one of the supremely knowledgeable and formidable operatives in U.S.coins. His colleagues and trading competitors will attest to his skill and high integrity.
The book (tome, really), Rusty's memorial to an incomparable time and place, is not merely to read, but to dive into and swim around. Some of its delights: recapturing an obscure but haunting part of our exuberant national adolescence, demystifying many of the intricacies in the rare coin market, and serving as a permanent and valuable resource reference. The manner of presentation is that of a veteran of many adventures and well-fought battles lovingly sharing his most prized experiences with those who are disposed to value and appreciate the accounts.
THE MINT ON CARSON STREET has pride of place in my book collection.

This is must reading for all individuals who want to develop sound financial habits. While many of us know where we want to go, this practical book guides us on the journey for financial success and provides us the Biblical basis for that journey. Regardless of your religious preference, this book will serve as a road map to achieve whatever you want if you are willing to be disciplined in your pursuit. If I had to suggest two books on personal financial managment, I would recommend buying Money Came By The House The Other Day and reading it twice! Dr. Neil Baum, M.D. New Orleans, Louisiana

This book was read through in two sittings. The first read was to get a feel for what the author had to say about financial planning. The second was to see if the Biblical foundations were really there. I couldn't have been more impressed. This book is solid and sound on both fronts. Anyone looking for a nuts-and-bolts approach to getting their financial act together need not look elsewhere. This book has all you need to identify your area(s) of concern and get the information required to get your boat afloat and the wind in your sails. God's message to those willing to listen is ever-present and sound. You cannot come away from reading this book without realizing that the author is truly dedicated to helping his fellow man -- through sound financial direction with an eye focused on God's message Christians everywhere.

The authors use excellent illustrations and real life stories to help us see ourselves, with the intention to change.

I highly encourage you to read this book, but more importantly, to apply this book.

Read the book, you'll understand my review title!

This book by Harry Bingham is amazing! I just finished reading it, at 650 pages. And I can honestly say that time with this book really flew by. Bingham keeps the chapters short and intense, so you never feel like the story is dragging on. And each of the three sons takes a very different approach to making money during the race. You end up seeing how a business owner, stock trader, and investment banker must struggle to succeed, all while being totally immersed in their economic worlds. That anyone could read and understand this story, with its many moving parts, and its financial angles, is a testament to a Bingham's first-rate writing ability. This story ranks up there with Jeffrey Archer's "Kane & Abel" and Taylor Caldwell's "Captains and the Kings" for a keen look into the "rags-to-riches" genre and the surprising moral evolution of really engrossing characters. Any reader with depth, a refined sense of story and plot, and an interest in the business world should read this book!

Grisham goes business

I just read this book. I loved it. I love Grisham (although his latest books are average) and one could say that Grisham is to lawyers what Binham is to businessmen.

But don't fear, you dont have to be a trader or business expert to enjoy this book. You will learn a bunch about those high-adrenalin jobs and find yourself swept into an exciting money race. The son with the most money gets Daddy's big fortune. Who will get it and how? Watch them rise and fall and rise again.

I also enjoyed the little romance bits and the moral dilemna. You just can help beeing hooked to the characters and will despise some of their acts. Highly fun and entertaining. Give yourself a threat and read this book. I just ordered his second book and will check my mailbox every day from now on :)

The greatest winner takes all book ever written

This is honestly one of the best books I have ever read. The plot is sensational, basically a rich tycoon dies and to inherit his vast fortune his three sons who have basically just been spoilt rich kids and never worked a day in their lives must earn at least one million pounds from nothing in three years. Only one of them can inherit the money, winner takes all. Meanwhile their sister who has been left a place on a secretarial course from her father's will must look after their mother who has become a vegetable through shock of the will's contents so all the moral questions of diverting funds they have made to help their struggling sister are tackled along with morals in making money.

Each brother is completely different personality wise and you actually learn a fair bit about running businesses, share trading and everything else along the way. You get addicted to these characters and will not be able to put this book down. It is a riveting read. I honestly hadn't heard of Harry Bingham as an author before this but he's up there with James Patterson, Dean Koontz and other masters of thrillers.

Fantastic Read!

I picked this book up in a London bookshop when I finished the one I'd brought with me. It was one of the best selections I ever made. Bingham weaves a heck of a tale. There are all the elements one needs for a great suspense novel. The characters are complex and the ending a surprise. As an added bonus, if you have any interest at all in business and/or the financial industry you will get solid explorations of elements surrounding both areas.

I liked this book because the financial information is user-friendly and told as a story, which makes it easy to absorb. It is not dry as if coming from a text book. I found the information easy to apply to my life. It is a great resource book that I will keep by my side for a long time. One of the many important things that I remember from the book is that "I have to do what I love" and abundance will follow somehow. I liked the money exercises at the end of the book, because they are very clear to follow. I was so enthusiastic after reading the book that I started working on my numbers right away and collecting the information needed to help improve my finances. I have purchased the book several times already to give it as a gift to my friends. My thanks to the author.

This is a work of fiction about an honorable young woman's struggles to get out of debt and get on a firm financial footing. She succeeds with the help of a mentor and by working hard, visits to Debtors Anonymous and much will-power. Along the way, she, and the reader, finds out a great deal about dealing with money in all its aspects in an entertaining way. I am not just starting out in life and I learned a lot.

I liked the book, though I would sock any dentist who tried to talk about compound interest while he was drilling. This could be an excellent gift to give anyone going off to college, or starting a small business, especially an arts business. Anyone heavily in debt might find the heroine a wee bit hard to live up to.

THE MONEY MENTOR by Tad Crawford

This wonderful book is essential for anyone who has had consternation or outright difficulty managing their money. Even for those who are frugal and well organized, it gives extraordinary insights into societal and historical attitudes regarding money and debt. It puts money management into human terms. I alternately cringed (when recognizing my own patterns) and cheered, as the heroine began to pull herself out of the demoralizing trap of debt.

While the book is a fountain of information, there is also a real drama here. By humanizing the problem through the story of a young woman, Iris, plagued by debt and her aid at the hands of a wise and generous mentor, Saidah, it keeps us turning the pages. Instead of a dry lecture filled with advice, this story unfolds as a journey with all the pathos and uncertainty we can recognize in our own battles to balance the cares of earning a living with the real goal of contentment. It's a remarkable work with much more than sound guidance about money management. Filled with history, literature fables and a touch of Zen it is is fascinating and reassuring. We aren't the first generations to be torn apart by money mismanagement.

By the end all I could say is where can I find that mentor? And I want Saidah's telephone number. But I suspect that the author would reply that the mentor can be within us. She is always there in the gift of this book.

I highly recommend this compelling story of a young woman's coming to terms with debt incurred by overuse of credit cards. Iris Cassidy is a contemporary "Everywoman" whose coming to awareness about her finances also involves a journey of self-discovery that has a profound spiritual dimension. This is a warm-hearted didactic tale, a novel with a message, of one woman's experiences of life, work and relationships, as she wrestles with her realization that she has been spending more than she earns, and resolves to free herself from the burden of debt. In her story, personal transformation occurs through growing self-awareness, with the help of a mentor. She comes to see that forming a viable spending plan for repaying her debts has to make room for what gives joy and makes life meaningful for her--in her case, dancing. This well-written book can give anyone -- young or old -- insight into how to find financial freedom through careful planning and openness to change. It entertains while it teaches, even includes helpful exercises at the end.

Like all of Judith Briles' books, this new book is practical, down to earth, and filled with information and exercises that can help you to rapidly move forward.

I found the book to be straightforward, no-nonsense, and filled with practical wisdom on how to get a handle on your finances and then achieve your Financial Goals.

While many books are filled with fluff or information that will only help people with significant assets to invest, this ` HOW TO" book is for anyone who wants to develop greater skill - true financial competency - that can make a significant difference in both your bank account and your peace of mind.

The format is great - 30 short, easy to read chapters - one a day for 30 Days - each focusing on a specific area, and each with a simple exercise for you to do.

Anyone who is ready to take their Financial Life to the next level - whether you are just starting out, want to turn around your financial mess, or have made millions (I'm a millionaire and found many useful insights and strategies in this book) - can benefit from reading and using this book.

From how to organize your finances to how to talk about money in your family and relationships, this book offers a blueprint for greater financial success.

I highly recommend Judith Briles book, "Money Smarts".

The 10 principles learned in this book have changed mine and my wifes life! We have been applying the principles that are so easily explained by Peter Jeppson , Alan Williams, and Sandy Botkin, and after three months of applying what we've learned, we went from saving 5% per month to now saving over 20% of our monthly income! We have also built a 3 month surplus of monthly expenses, have lowered our tax burden, and for the first time in 5 years of marriage we our on the same page as husband and wife about our finances. There is no more arguing and guess work in our finances, which of course strengthens our relationship. This book is a must read for all married couples who are not on the same page when it comes to their finances. If you are wanting to take control of your finances, then read and apply the 10 principles taught in this book!

I have studied and enjoyed many books on money, personal finance, debt management and taxes. This book is the most comprehensive book on money that I have read. If you have read, "Rich Dad Poor Dad," "The Automatic Millionaire," and "The Total Money Makeover," (which are all fantastic books) this book will put all of those concepts together and bring clairity to each of them. It is a shame that this book is not more widely marketed. Having read the abovementioned books first, this book proved to be a powerful roadmap to implementing the concepts set forth in my prior readings. A must have for those of you who want to build wealth on any salary!

So powerful it will change your life, yet so simple it should be self-evident; the greatest single resource for achieving financial stability and independent wealth. This book quite simply changed my life - not just financially but amazingly enough emotionally; it completely revolutionized the way I view and manage money.

Money: What Financial Experts Will Never Tell You lays out a financial foundation for the management and accumulation of personal wealth. This is done through 10 simple rules which are laid out like pieces of a financial puzzle. The book shows you both what these rules are and also how to combine them to form a complete financial foundation and system for managing your finances and achieving independent wealth. This book is a complete resource covering everything from the emotional aspects of money and spending to practical wealth accumulation and taxation.

While the 10 rules are indeed simple to understand and grasp, they do as you should expect take effort to practice. The book helps in reducing this effort in several ways. It is easy to read and understand, laid out quite logically from basic topics to more complex ones, and provides in-depth real-life examples as well as additional resources to pursue. The bottom-line is that you can't go wrong buying this book - It will be the last book you seek on personal financial management returning you a dividend greater than anything you can imagine.

For those of you who do buy this book - congratulations your life is about to change for the better. My best advice for really making the best use of this book is to read 1 rule every 4-6 weeks and then spend the remainder of the time before reading the next rule putting the current rule in play in your daily life. Some rules take more time than others to implement well but everything is fairly straight-forward. If you do this then after a few months you will most certainly see improvements in your personal finances and after a year you will see a complete difference in your financial well-being. Good luck - I wish you all the success I have found.

The book was recommended to me by an aquaintence. I've read several books about personal finance, but this title is different. Based upon ten fundamental principles of personal finance, the authors give the reader step by step procedures to organize their financial situation and put it in order. Many books give in depth study of key aspects of personal finance. This book gives the reader a broad comprehensive plan to guide all aspects of personal finance. The reader is then in a position to make personal financial decisions based upon solid knowledge of where the reader is financially. Easy to follow. Very helpful.

Having read several books about the money, I was getting tired of being told to go get a financial education. Isn't that why I was reading the book in the first place? After reading the first chapter of Money: What Financial Experts Will Never Tell You, I knew I had finally found a book that told me how to manage my finances. Through the principles taught in this book I've gained the confidence to start my own business. My pathway to retirement is much shorter than it used to be. The authors have written in a style that is easy to follow and exciting to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in long-term financial health. I will use this book as a means of teaching my children about money.

This is a fantastic book. My daughter is 11 months and she absolutely loves finding the monkey at the bottom of the page. This book keeps her entertained for twenty minutes at a time - which is great for me!

My son LOVES this book. It's suitable for a 10month old, but the rounds monkeys are made of cardboard and got destroyed pretty quickly from being gnawed on. At 13 months, he knows the book by name, and I have to read it ten times a day. It's only 5 pages so not too annoying for me. :)

A big hit!

My 15 month old nephew loves this book. While his coordination is not so good yet that he can drop the little pog-like monkey disc in the slot at the bottom AND be able to watch it tumble, he "helps" me drop the monkey in and watches. My stepmother says her friend bought one for her two year old granddaughter and the kindergarten-aged brother loved it too. He read it to his sister and they both enjoyed it. Also, the book comes with two monkey discs so I suggest stashing one in a drawer and only leaving the kids with one at a time.

My 18 month old granddaughter LOVES this book. Matter of fact, it's a replacement for the original! Good for her coordination as there is a round 'chip' with the monkey on it that she has to put in a thin slot at the top of the page and then open a flap to get it out. Loves it!

Fun to read with your 1 year old

My 14-month old loves to read this book b/c it is interactive. It comes with two little monkeys on cardboard discs. You drop the 'monkey' in a top slot and you can watch the monkey tumble down to the bottom of each page. While my little one doesn't really pay attention to the words he loves to lift the flap to find where the monkey tumbled to. It is a unique and fun concept. I'm looking for more like it.
