Weather Books

When I first learned of this book, I was very excited. Living in Miami, FL, the sea is never far from me! So much has already been written about Earth Magick, Air Magick and Fire Magick, but surprisingly little good information has been presented about the Magick of the Sea. I actually read this book straight through, then went back and tabbed some of my favorite parts. I really enjoyed the book, and will be using it as a unique reference for many years to come.

The Lloyd's book is one of the best book in the area of the ship motions. It was written carefully and it was well divided in nice charpters. I have one exemplar available at my job. I am now trying to buy one to my personal library and it surprise me, how an excellent text book can be rejected for the publishers. It is a basic text proper to be used in the naval architecture and marine engineering graduated schools.

As an earth and atmospheric science professor who specializes in natural hazards, I've seen probably every text available on this subject. For atmospheric hazards in particular, this is the best textbook I've used. It is easily accessible to second year meteorology undergraduates, and could even be somewhat useful in a graduate course. Although the text emphasizes the meteorological science of atmospheric hazards more than the societal impacts, I've found it to be a good balance for a hazardous weather course. This is a substantial textbook with information on nearly all atmospheric hazards, and it is accompanied by a well-produced CD-ROM (and website), which contain a lot of supplemental material and work very well in the classroom. The print size is large and there are many supporting diagrams that are easy to read. My only complaint is the complete lack of discussion of fog, which is a significant natural hazard. Otherwise, this is a superb textbook.

I was introduced to this book in a university literature class and was impressed with the caliber of the authors. Some of my favorite poets, essayists and writers are amongst the authors. I have since added other works by these authors to my library. If you want to find out more about many of history's most inspiring writers, add this book to your collection.

"Geshmak" is Yiddish for "delicious," and it's the only way I can describe this collection. I don't have it yet, but I have the three works that comprise it. There'll be plenty of bs reviews here about WUO rhetoric and left wing craziness, but O had that rhetoric seeped into the heads of every Amerikkkan and O had that craziness infected the whole country. Maybe we'll all be bi, tie-dye, and high by now. It'd be a helluva lot better than all these yellow-ribbons and dead kids in the mid-east (not to mention in midwest high-school shooting sprees). G-d this country sux. And recuerdate kids ... this is a review from an Nice Orthodox Jewish Boy. I should be all up in the right wing heterosexist neo-creationist war-in going down in the Yoo Ess Ay these days, but I ain't.

One of the best general interest weather books I've seen. The focus is on Eastern weather but the concepts Keen talks about really apply to weather all around the world. Inversions, fronts, atmospheric layers, hurricanes, tornadoes, thunderstorms and all the rest of it. Nicely illustrated and the writing style is more interesting than the usual textbook or reference book. What I really like is that it goes into more detail than books like "USA Today's The Weather Book" but without getting so technical as to go over the head of the lay reader. Very accessible and definitely recommended.

The best book ever!!!

Smokejumpers is an excellent book to have available at Smokejumper bases and Forest Service Headquarters as a handout to kids under 14 years of age.
