Beautifully illustrated picture book with a whimsical bearReview Date: 2008-09-06
I love the rhyming style in which this story is written, e.g. ""A very hairy bear doesn't care if the squirrels scold. He eats all the acorns he can hold." The gorgeous watercolor illustrations by Matt Phelan enhance the narrative and make for fun reading. Highly recommended for preschoolers.
Possibly the perfect picture book. :)Review Date: 2007-11-05

It's the Words First!Review Date: 2008-01-24
This is an easy review, a simple review.
Buy this book to see how the words made the show.
Buy this book to see how a television script looks.
Buy this book to read excellent television scripts that became excellent television in the hands of a cast and crew of talented people.
Buy this book to get a taste of the wider political times out of which the series came and to which the series spoke volumes. It is all here in the words.
This is as good as a Master's Class in writing screen plays. Style, form, manuscript format, plot, character, how the background of the set can become a character itself, how the sum of the parts can definitely become greater than the whole. Great companion to the DVDs. Read the script first then watch the show. Then watch the episodes with the script at hand to see what went up on the screen. Annotate your copy, make notes, study and there's your class.

Not quite what I expected, but it was still goodReview Date: 2000-08-18
However, the book is filled with lots of extraordinary pictures of whitetails. The book does contain a lot of information on whitetail deer. Some of it can be applied to hunting, a lot of it is "interesting" or "nice to know" type information.
Despite this book not being what I expected, it is still a very fine book. I did learn a lot about whitetail deer in this book and the photography was excellent. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the beauty of a whitetail deer, hunters and non-hunters alike.

It's about basketball!Review Date: 2002-11-02
Writing about a male players, an author might ask, "How did they make it into the big time?"
Writing about women, authors are forced to ask, "How did they get here at all?" This question adds a new dimension to the stories of women athletes. Players as young as today's collegians have had to overcome stereotypes. Many played on boys' teams -- or tried to.
Gallaudet women have to overcome a double stereotype -- being not only female, but also deaf. There was a time when opposing teams would openly ridicule deaf basketball players. One player was devastated as a high school student when a coach from a Christian academy openly laughed at her speech. She made the team but never forgot the experience.
However, the players want to be taken seriously as athletes. They do not want or need pity or condescension. To Coffey's credit, the book focuses on basketball, not deafness. We learn how players and teams compensate for a silent world. They can hear someone dribbling behind them. Referees are briefed: players can't hear the whistle so they may not stop playing immediately. And players on "hearing" teams need ASL translators who understand basketball terms.
Yet ultimately the story is about the game: coming together as a team and working to win. Like any sports book, there are stories of triumphs as well as tears. We come to care about the players as they, like all college athletes, balance basketball and books.
Perhaps the most difficult story takes place after the book was written. Ronda Jo Miller, an All-American center, cannot reach her goal of playing on a WNBA team. In stories posted on the internet, we can learn that she earned admiration of players and coaches during the tryout camp. She eventually played professionally in Denmark, with a "hearing" team, and has played in Kansas City with an expansion league, the WNBL.
What happens to the other athletes? Playing on a winning team can change lives and I found myself hoping they will continue to feel like winners, long after the season has ended.

Such wonderful character studies of the players, their families and the world of Gallaudet. If you like basketball, if you like visiting other cultures or if you just like stories that bring people to life, you'll love this book. Highly recommended.

A Classic for Young Boys and GirlsReview Date: 2007-02-20
Winter on the Farm introduces your children to Almanzo and his family. This classic tale shows how families share household responsibility and remind us how to respect our siblings and our parents. Almanzo works hard along-side his older brother and is happy to be praised by his father for a job well-done.

A Warm Little Book About WinterReview Date: 2003-12-30
get ready for a winter walkReview Date: 2004-09-28
The book is a about a kitten who is taking a walk in the outdoors during winter. We see him get on all his warm clothes and off he goes. He does lots of fun winter things. He makes snow angels, snowmen, goes sledding and looks for tracks in the snow. When he has had enough fun for the day he goes back inside by the fire for a cup of hot chocolate!
The board book has a very unique shape. It's in the shape ofa snowflake. The pages are made of stiff board like paper making it easy for little hands to turn.
or why not?I would recommed this book to parents and caregivers of kids ages birth to 3. This is a great way to introduce them to winter and all the things that come with it.

Extremely Uplifting Review Date: 2004-08-23
In terms of salvation, the lyrics are extremely uplifting and anointing - symbolizing everything that is pure and kind. Futhermore, they speak with an intense and loud voice, but yet whispers in such a fashion that even a deaf man can hear the voice of God! Moreover, this book ensures me of one precious fact: Our earthly tabernacle will dissolve, but the Holy Spirit is everlasting. In my opinion, "A Word In Due Season" will be a great addition to any book collection, I highly recommend it!!
