What an asset to the Internet enabled Data Warehouse! As a consultant in the field, someone offering a practical solution to the Data Warehousing environment provided valuable insight that I can offer my clients. With Internet applications becoming more abundant and the volume of clickstream data reaching terabyte sizes, it is wonderful that the author offered a solution of distributing pieces of the data warehouse across different nodes. The authors' step-by-step process, that includes a valuable discussion on security, will assist in multiple environments but especially in the e-commerce arena.

R. A. Moellers approach in this book is extremely pactical. The author give usable examples on how to build a distributed data warehouse that could cross political boundardies. This is valuable to anyone building e-commerce applications that cross not only divisional boundardies but corporate boundaries. The chapter on security was especially interesting and helpful for an e-commerce situation as well.

An Excellent Introduction to Data Warehousing

My introduction to Data Warehousing was a water cooler discussion with a colleague just returned from a Data Warehousing workshop. The main topic of that discussion was the long development time required by data warehousing projects and how foolish it was start any project where the first "deliverable" to a business user was planned for three years hence.

With the approach that Ms. Moeller presents in this book, however, data warehouse projects are made eminently manageable by planning a series of major deliverables spaced 3-6 months (not YEARS) apart - at a fraction of the cost of a full-blown "Data Warehouse." Data Warehousing projects no longer have to automatically connote the development of a "black hole."

Potential readers should be aware that this book is not a "how-to-do-it." Rather, it focuses on what has to be done and how to approach a Data Warehousing project in general.

One final note: having read Ms. Moeller's past articles in the journal "InfoDB", she continues to present very technical information in a lucid, clear writing style. I'm still amazed that I read each chapter straight through in one sitting. This is the first "technical book" I have read in a very long time about which I can make that statement.

If you have "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest" and you want to get 102% and see the extra ending, you need to get this strategy guide. It tells you everything about the game that you want to know. It tells you where all the DK coins are, all the hidden barrels, all the bonus levels, and more. I bought this book a few years ago right after I got the game for Christmas and I used it to find all the secrets that I hadn't already found. After you see the ending you'll get for getting all 102% of the secrets, you'll know that it was worth getting this strategy guide. I recommend it to anybody who has "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest."

Recently I had the opportunity to hear Bob Connolly speak in person. After hearing Mr. Connolly's presentation, I immediately ordered his book.

The book is impressive in layout as well as content. Mr. Connolly backs up his skill and puts it into real time production with this book. The accompanying CD (in Adobe PDF) is identical to the books layout, but includes the interactive Rich-Media presentations.

I have not found another book with the most up to date information on interactive PDFs. Mr. Connolly uses the interactive Rich-Media CD to reinforce the subject matter of the book. A must read for those working with or planning interactive Rich-Media technology presentations.

What a vision

This is a great book to take you from the start of PDf right to what Bob thinks is the end out come of the next generation of the internet. What a vision it is and he explains it all along the way showing you the true powers of Adobe and its master piece PDF. This book will truly drive your mind wild with all the things that one can do with the right tools at their fingers. It has wonderful examples that if you use the inserted CD, come to life right in front of your eyes.
The only down side to the book is that all he does is talk about all the wonderful, great things PDF do but he tends to leave you hanging on how one can go about getting all these tricks done. Really, this book is for an advanced user of Creative Suite and someone that is looking for the "WOW" factor when it comes to sales, marketing and website design. If this book does not inspire you to create rich dynamic interactive PDF nothing will. I really enjoyed the book but I also learned that when it comes to PDF I am a novice.
If you are into design this your book but also search for other books that teach you all the things that Bob talks about and I do mean OTHERS. You will not find any of this information in one book unless Bob wrote a HOW TOO as well. Come on BOB, I will be waiting.

I have been hearing about this e-Business stuff and associated acronynms for a while now: B2B, B2C, e-Commerce, EDI, m-Commerce..on and on. No book had so far explained to me what it all means to a DBA like me. This book finally explain in clear and simple terms what all the hoopla is about.

The author uses simple and clear language in explaining the issues that really matter to DBAs....both technical and non-technical aspects of the e-Business environment are covered in this book.

Thank you Meghraj for the wonderful explanation and clearing the myths.

This book is an excellent source of information for Oracle DBAs that work in an e-Business environment. I have read a number of books on e-Business and Oracle but this book does a superb job in showing what e-Business means to an Oracle DBA like me.
I especially liked the chapters on availability and security. Each page in those chapters contains very good stuff. In my company, high availability and security is a must and the techniques shown in the book are a lifesaver. e.g. encryption techniques, implementing redundancy, security loop holes and so on.

I have been an Oracle DBA for over 10 years now and am in the process of transitioning from a "traditional" DBA to an "internet" DBA. This book has helped me enormously in understanding the various issues and solutions related to using Oracle with the Web. Each chapter of the book is packed with valuable information. The author does a great job in explaining the issues involved in such projects and also provides real-world tips and techniques for achieving availability, scalability, security and performance in e-Businesses using Oracle. I highly recommend this book as a good read and ready reference for Oracle DBAs, Developers and even Project Managers of Web-based projects and e-Business initiatives that make use of Oracle

This is a topic that is long overdue. One only need look at the headlines of how some e-merchants badly fouled up fulfillment this holiday and the prior one to realize how invaluable this book is for e-commerce. Especially useful are the checklists, work-sheets and the exensive research Ms. Bayles did in finding pertinent sites that have a bearing on the topic. This is a book that, in contrast to others on e-commerce, will never go out of date.

I run one of those few start ups that has survivied. I've had several offers from competitors in the brick and motar world to buy my business. Some offers were very interesting and others I've since learned were less than honest. Keogh's book helps me identify good candidates for purchasing my company and shows me serious pitfalls to avoid. This is a good little book that explains all the ins and outs about e-mergers and buying and selling a company. I highly recommend this book.

I owned one of those start up dot coms that found a niche in the market and actually made a profiting when funding dried up. I had offers from a number of established traditional companies to take over my business. Fortunately, I stumbled over this book in time to avoid making potentially costly mistakes. I strongly recommend anyone thinking of selling their e-business to read this book before looking for buyers. You'll avoid a lot of pitfalls.

Ken Allard of Jupiter Media Metrix is correct when he says this book is a comprehensive guide to M&A for anyone who wants to acquire cheap assets and build a winner from the rubble. Keogh walks you through all the fine details of buying and selling a dot com. I found particularly interesting the coverage of real world experiences of those who have worked through their own deals. It's as if you're getting the how to's and what worked what to avoid all in one very readable book. Good job.
