It is definitely the best book I have ever read, and I read many great books throughout my life. I read it about six times, the first one when I was little. I still remember. Now I got it for my own children. It has amazing principles, and wonderful teachings. I wich we could all see life the way "El Principito" does. What a great lesson!

A BOOK THAT INFLUENCED MY LIFE

The book that has influenced my life is "The Little Prince". This book iis basically about a little blond boy that meets an adult with who he will become friend, somewhere in the world, dunno where. He discovers, during a trip, adults, who will allow him to understand adults world and life on hearth In the begining of the story, the pilot crashes in a desert and thers were the story begings. This story has many characters, but the two main ones are the pilot (the narrator), and the little prince. One of the main settings are the dessert were the pilot meets the little prince, and the planet were the little prince lives, but this story has many settings.

I read this book because my mother told me that every kid must read this book, so she gave me the book and i read it when i was almost 12 years old. This book has influenced my life in many ways. Every time i read this book it makes me think, about pepole and friendship, it makes me cry, laugh, and be a better person and a better friend. It also makes me be more pacient, and this is a thing that im not so good at, but every time im in a cituation were i have to be pacient, since i read that book, I have teach myself to try to understand people, and why they are like that. This book is in a prose/chatter way written, in this way it was easier for me to understand the meaning of the words. This book you have to read it more than once to get the meaning of the words.

I am using this book as a Homeschool Science Course for my children grades 4th, 3rd, and 1st. It is an excellent book with loads of engaging activities. The activities are usually things you have lying around at home in junk drawers, they are inexpensive, fast, convenient and exciting. I am enjoying the experiments as much as my kids. Highly recommended.

The Everything Kids' Science Experiments Book is an ideal book for older school age children for Science projects. The experiments offer a detailed investigation into each concept being explored by children. Many of the experiments do require adult supervision due to the complexity of some of the experiments that require multiple steps. It is most suitable for middle school and early high school students. Additional facts related to the concept being explored are mentioned to peak the science student's interest in the topic. The experiments require moderate to extensive planning by teachers or parents while supporting the young learner.

Better than tape!

Once you log on the Net...anyone can find you! April 19, 2001 My father handed me this book becasue I was a "computer guy" and he thought I might enjoy it. (He would have given it 3 stars at most); but being as I am in computers...and you can do everything that is done in this book....I enjoyed it. Anyone who uses a computer, a chat room and a bulletin board will really appreciated it. The deaths are a little more gruesome than is required...but once you get pass that, the book keeps your attention.

It starts slow and picks up with every page. I could not put it down. I finished it on one day! This book is a thriller even up to the last page. A must read.... this is a thoroughly entertaining novel.

Note: I now turn off my computer at night.

My husband and I are in the process of adopting a teenage boy. I purchased 4 books to prepare myself for possible situations that may arise. This was by far the best one of those I have read. The book was very easy reading and quite enjoyable. The book describes actual events from different case studies and had alot of helpful info. I found most of the other books boring and hard to get through. This was straight to the point and offered real life solutions and explainations for certain behaviors.

This book is an excellent discussion of the ways adoption is experienced by all members of the triad, with particular emphasis on the normal developmental issues adoptees face at different times of their lives. Joyce Maguire Pavao is clear and forthright, sensitive and reassuring. Her wise insight is illustrated with examples and the poetry of adoptees. I highly recommend this book.

As the attorney for many adoptive families I sometimes find myself filling in information that social workers haven't provided, or at least haven't provided in a way that the family understood. A couple of issues that come up often are, "I've been told that adoption is not the same as birth parenting, but exactly how is it different?" and "How will adoption affect my child through out his or her childhood." I find that many families do not understand these issues before they adopt. This is the perfect book to put in the hand of a prospective family. It is also great for families experiencing adoption related challenges who feel that they are unique and alone. This book gives them comfort and understand. It is a great resource. It is short too, families like. Thank you Dr. Pavao.

As an adoptive mother, I have read and collected a shelf full of books on the subject of adoption. Joyce Pavao's well researched and thoughtful book, The Family of Adoption, is one of the very best. It's the first book that I recommend to anyone interested in or touched by adoption.

Joyce Pavao, herself adopted, encourages the reader to look at adoption from all perspectives. She shows us that understanding the important connections that exists between birth family, adoptive family and adoptee is essential to appreciating the complex emotions that accompany these bonds. Her careful explanations helped me to understand that although our daughter's birthmother is half a world away, she has always been a very real part of our family. Pavao uses poignant examples, selected from her years a therapist, to illustrate how adoption effects all members of the triad. Her use of real life scenarios brings much needed clarity to some very complicated concepts and makes this book very readable.

Included in the chapters devoted to the adoptee at various ages, is useful advise on how to talk to your child about adoption in age appropriate ways. She also gives simple, understandable advise for parents to help their children process information and feelings in different ways at different developmental stages. She helps the reader understand how each new developmental stage presents a unique set of challenges for the adopted person and how some seemingly troubling behaviors can result.

In The Family of Adoption, Pavao presents a very complex subject in a very straight forward and understandable way. She also provides useful and practical advise in a book that that is ultimately informative and very readable.

Jim Kjelgaard's portrayal of Hawk overcomming adversity after being ostracized by his peers and then becomming more successful than they, is a lesson for all. To understand it is possible to think and act independently of your cohorts is critical for our youth. The book moves quickly enough for young readers and has lessons enough for adults in an interesting story. By way of testimonial, I am a 48 year old very successful physician raised in an area where more kids from my high school went to jail than college. I credit this book's profound influence on me. It should be mandatory reading for middle schoolers. Thanks to Amazon.com, I'm reading a copy to my kids.

An extraordinary book. When I was a fourth grade teacher I read
it to my class, who loved it. It has a story telling quality and
is hard to put down when you start reading it. The story is
unique in that it shows the beauty of discovering new ways of
doing things -- inventing weapons to survive in an unforgiving
environment. A creative and curious child will love the story.
There's really nothing like it that I know of. Finally, the
concepts and vocabulary make it suited as a read aloud from fourth to sixth grade and as a good read for adults. Don't miss
out on an outstanding book.

Review Date: 2008-05-23
This is quite simply the best memoir I have ever read, and as a professional writer myself, I've read a lot of them. It deserves to be considered in a class with America's greatest storytelling.

Fan Shen writes in an understated, no-holds-barred, external style that is in some ways reminiscent of his literary heroes: London and Stendhal, to name two. Like Martin Eden and The Red and the Black, this is a story of the struggle of the individual against the system. And what a struggle! No slow internal musing over small questions here - this is a pedal-to-the-metal ride through China's bloodiest and most oppressive modern period, told in one shocking life event after another, and emotions bend all the more powerfully by racing to keep up.

With increasing personal, moral, and ethical risks as Fan struggles to develop an individual identity and freedom from oppression in a country where individualism is anti-revolutionary and a capital offense, this is a page-turner that you may never forget - with a beautiful love story at its heart.

I think this is perhaps the best memoir I've read by someone who survived the infamous Chinese Cultural Revolution. Many other authors have tried to capture the chaos and pain it has caused them, but Fan Shen outdoes them all. I'm glad he told his story, or other people would never know how horrible things really were at that time. Each chapter in this book is captivating, and its hard to put it down. It is also extremely sad, and at the end of the book you wish you knew Fan Shen so you could at least talk with him and give him a hug. :(

I spent about 8 months reading Dr. Shen's book -- not because it bored me, and not because it was overly long. This is just one of those books that needs to be savored in order to be properly enjoyed. It's also one of those books that you really don't want to finish.

Savor it. :)

Almost Unbelieveable

Review Date: 2007-04-27
This is the story of a boy who, from a revolutionary family, eagerly joins the Red Guards at the outset of the Cultural Revolution. As Fan Shen comes of age, he realizes that the Cultural Revolution is a disaster and this book is the story of his attempt to find a way to achieve an acceptable life.

It is readily apparent that Fan is a very clever fellow as well as an intellectually gifted individual. The tales that he recounts are alternatively horrifying, sad, depressing and humorous. As he tells of his experiences, the reader can only imagine the horrors of the Cultural Revolution when you multiply his experiences by the 800 million or so others who lived through the same era.

Fan is a wonderful author and can tell a story exceedingly well. At times, however, the reader is left wondering whether we are actually getting an accurate recounting of Fan's earlier years. The stories he tells are truly beyond belief and, at times, seem to be a bit self-serving. Whether or not this is the case, the book deserves a read by anyone interested in China today or in recent Chinese history.

Synergy Between a Gifted Boss and a Great Employee
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-31
In this book, the author uses a short story to tell readers how a gifted boss and a great employee together can create synergy. The story starts with the author asking for help from a wise mentor, Max. He and Max spend a weekend together in Arizona, visiting different companies and talking with each other.

According to the Max, a gifted boss creates a magnetic work environment to attract great employees. He/She emphasizes goals and standards over procedural how-to rules. What is hired is help, not just time and efforts, from employees. He/she also cares about the personal development of employees by placing them outside their comfort zones. As for firing employees, a gifted boss helps them find new jobs.

In the book, Max also sheds light on a great employee. A great employee does not have to be expensive to hire. He/she is looking for a change and a chance. This great person is naturally productive and wants to be trusted that work will be done without constant supervision. He/she usually has one or more skills that are superior to those of the boss. As a result, great help is given to the boss through checking on the boss's work. A great employee also understands customers. He/she is entrepreneurial and is confident enough to seek measurement of his/her work and wants to be paid accordingly. Such great employees have to be courted by gifted bosses for they seldom change jobs. Courting here means a gifted boss has to be a friend and look for a chance to open up for offering a job to this great employee. This may happen after many years after they have become friends.

The author really understands how to be a gifted boss and the nature of a great employee. The story-telling writing style of this book makes it interesting and different from that of other books in Business.

I haven't read the book, but the example cited in the publisher's review, that of John Kilcullen, former chief of IDG Books during the 1990s, makes me hesitate. The idea that Kilcullen, one of the most heartily despised bosses in the computer book publishing industry, would be cited as a "Gifted Boss" because of a neat trick in luring in a name author, is sad. Go ahead and read the book, but skip over the parts about Kilcullen, he's no examplar.

Brought to this magical place by Patty; the Sugarplum fairy, he takes on a quest to save King Otto, the Gingerbread King from the clutches of Queen Beatrice and her army of Stingers. The bumbling henchmen and Lord Vermin are classic villains while Stretch (Man of Taffy), Arach-Ned (Spider) and Prince Hans (Gingerbread Prince)fill out the courageous cast of characters. I don't want to ruin the ending, but it is quite amazing. Cliffhanger chapters and an easy read suitable for both kids and adults. Page turning adventure from start to finish. Judging from the artwork, this would make an excellent movie.

THE GINGERBREAD KINGDOM is an interesting and intriguing fantasy novel that combines elements of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: 100th Anniversary Edition (Books of Wonder) with those from the child's board game Candyland. Filled with realistic characters, fantastical creatures, and a fun storyline, this is a book that's perfect for younger readers. It's also filled with enough action and adventure to keep older readers, especially those who are reluctant to pick up a huge novel, completely captivated.

Holman Orphanage, or "Hopeless Orphanage," as the children who live there have named it, is a sad place filled with little joy. The children who call it home know that every rule must be followed to the letter. No one knows that better than Jay, a boy who has born the brunt of Headmaster Holman's anger on more than one occasion. When he gets in trouble, yet again, for leaving the bathroom faucet dripping, he knows that he won't be able to survive another day spent in the cellar.

So he decides to get away from "Hopeless Orphanage" once and for all. Amid the cries of his roommates--Ben, Sam, and Timmy--Jay runs away from the Orphanage with nothing but the clothes he is wearing. He promises that once he finds a place to stay, he'll come back for the other boys. And then he's gone.

Except Jay finds more than he'd bargained for outside the walls of Holman Orphanage. The world outside is a strange, fascinating place, filled with magic. There are men made of gingerbread, Sugarplum Fairies, and even giant bees. Soon Jay finds himself caught up in a plan to save the Gingerbread King, King Otto, from the evil Queen Beatrice and her army of
Stingers. How is it that Jay ran away from one horrible situation only to find himself caught up in a battle of good versus evil?

Readers will find themselves rooting for Jay and his magical friends as he attempts to thwart Queen Beatrice from taking over the Gingerbread Kingdom. They'll also find that this small boy, once under the hard ruling thumb of a bitter Headmaster, just might have a few tricks up his sleeve to save King Otto from harm. An interesting book for all lovers of fantasy!

This book shows the talent of Chris Denise. Being the cover illustrator of the American Redwall books, he shows his work again in this very neat picture book. All the animals are so cute in this book, like hamsters, and it shows you how they prepare, what to prepare, and what to do in the abbey feasts. I recommend this book for all ages.

Fabulous illustrations occupy most of the page in this 64-page poem of 101 six-lined stanzas with an AACBBC rhyming scheme. The story incorporates many of the series' favorite characters, including Matthias and Cornflower, and depicts not only the preparations of a wonderful Redwall feast by hares and mice and otters, but includes a riddle as well.

This book is really beautiful and should be read aloud.

Wonderful introduction to Redwall!

I bought this book because my oldest son (5 years old) saw a part of the Redwall series on PBS. He loved it but the book series is too old for him yet. This book is a great introduction! The pictures are gorgeous and the language and imagery are exquisite. I highly recommend this book and I hope there will be more like it!

Geoff Johns and the DC team have done it again. I'm a Green Lantern fan from the 60's, so I know Hal Jordan well. It is great to see him and the other Green Lanterns fighting Sinestro, the baddest of the bad and his own corps. I agree with a previous reviewer that the story is so deep and some pages are so richly done that I had to stop and check Wikipedia or one of the GL web sites to get more information. But, don't let that stop you if you've ever read Green Lantern or seen one or more of them in a TV cartoon, and liked what you saw. Trust the old Silver Age fan with matching silver hair, you will not be disappointed. My only caveat is, you most likely will have to come back and purchase volume 2; be sure to budget for that. Enjoy!

Count me as one of those who felt slightly disappointed with how the Infinite Crisis (IC) mini series went. It didn't quite compare to it's 80's predecessor Crisis on Infinite Earths (COIC) in both plot, characters and overall story line.

But out of nowhere you suddenly have the Sinestro Corps War saga. I had read a few issues when it was originally released but decided to just wait for the collections instead. I was not disappointed at all.

The plot was pretty straight forward and the action was non-stop. There are a ton of characters involved. Of course, there are Green Lanterns galore and plenty of villains: Sinestro (of course), Hank Henshaw, Superboy/Superman-Prime and the big baddie from COIC, the Anti-Monitor.

That is why it is too bad that the Sinestro Corps War couldn't have been the sequel to COIC. There are some things in IC that had to occur to bring the Anti-Monitor back to life. Regardless, it was great to see the Anti-Monitor back again.

A can't miss collection for any Green Lantern or COIC fans.

Welcome to the forbidden chapter of the book of Oa ! One of the most serious stories written by geoff johns and dave gibbons. The war is inminent and inevitable, every space sector are involved. The sinestro corps want to establish a new oder in the galaxy and the GL's are determined to win. The drawing art is the best and the colours are amazing . A big story...builds to an epic climax. Let the war begin !

Geoff Johns is the current king of DC mythology. As he completes the second leg of his Green Lantern trilogy, it's obvious that Johns has learned from his mistakes in INFINITE CRISIS, because this book is the most accessable event to be written in years.

The only GREEN LANTERN book I'd ever read before this was Johns' excellent "Rebirth" arc from a few years ago. This is so much better. I had little knowledge of the Lantern Corps and its history going in, but coming out I felt like I knew everything there was to know. I was never lost, and no one should be when they read this.

Despite the contribution of four different pencilers, the art is good throughout and, like the writing, never confuses the reader. So, Kudos to Van Sciver, Reis, Gleason and Unzeta for a job well done.
The one qualm I have with this package is that this is only the first half of the story. You'll have to buy Volume 2 separately, and DC doesn't appear to have any 13-issue giant edition ("Absolute" or otherwise) on the horizon. Until that time, this is the best way to enjoy 2007's best comic book event.

Highly recommended for longtime readers as well as those just interested in reading a great comic.

Worth the wait.

I don't usually enjoy reading comics week to week or month to month, so I always wait for collections to come out. This is one comic that I would have wished I had read every new issue.
