A wonderfully written exploration of the story of the apple. The author traces the tale through the botany, history, geology,
art, literature, zoology that influenced this important fruit. Extremely readable, and beautifully illustrated with original
artwork and photos, the author guides us through thousands of years of history from Adam and Eve through to Johnny Appleseed.
Loved the book. Highly recommend.

We have a new acreage with old trees and the need to plant more. For the past year we've just been doing our best, but with
this book we know what to do and when to do it. We can look at a tree and tell that it is under stress and how to fix that
problem. It is written in an easily understood manner. There is just enough detail for clear understanding without so much
one is overwhelmed.

I just purchased a new home and have busily been planning the landscaping. I've been looking for inexpensive references to
learn more about some of the shrubs I have chosen and how best to care for them. Taylor's Guide to Shrubs gives an excellent
overview of various shrubs, their hardiness, even how to take care of pests! Best of all, it is an easy to use reference!
I was able to identify many of the shrubs I've picked out and how they will look when flowering in a matter of moments. I recommend this for anyone who likes landscaping and needs a reference for their home.

I recently moved into a house with a yard and a variety of trees, vines, and Roses. I have read large gardening references
before in attempts to prune planter box trees and gardens, but never walked away with the sense that I could actually prune
and train my plants successfully. This book began with definitions of terminology, tool selection, and provided clear text
and multiple helpful drawings and pictures all geared towards the intelligent adult. It addreses the unique properties of
the various fruit trees, rose bushes, vines, and shrubs, and gives advice as to when to hire and how to choose an arborist.
It helped me understand the impact of pruning and has made me a more educated 'tree' observer.
I cannot see myself ever needing to buy another pruning book! I would highly recommend this for complete and straight forward pruning guide.

Palm Trees can be found on every continent except Antarctica - and it isn't because of the cold that they aren't there. "Timber
Press Pocket Guide to Palms" is a comprehensive look at this enigmatic tree, so often ignored as simply a decoration for tropical
islands when it really is a resilient plant that can grow in extreme temperatures as low as five degrees Fahrenheit. The guide
covers everything one would possibly need to know to grow over two hundred of the common palm species. Enhanced with over
three hundred color photographs and appendixes, this information packed guide is highly recommended for community library
collections on plant life and for anyone who seeks to grow a palm themselves.

This is the most surprising "paper back" that I have ever purchased! The 128 pages are packed full of full-color pictures,
information, expert comments, and diagrams. I especially find the photos valuable for scanning and importing into my Garden
Encyclopedia and Lansdcape Software. I fully intend to order other Dr. Hessayon books.
