The "Blurry Rules" book is a good idea for girls in the 8-12 age group. The book's main purpose is to explain the ten commandments in such a matter that girls at 8-12 years of age can easily understand and benefit from. I also recommend the book for anyone who is a new Christian, because Nancy Rue does an extremely good job of presenting Biblical truth throughout by making it easier to understand it. Nancy also does an incredibly good job of backing up the book with scripture. The book is a real plus for its intended audience. It can also be used for younger Christians as well--not just the ones in the age group it is presented for. Kudos to the people at Zondervan, Nancy Rue and the rest of the people involved in this book. It is a good resource. It has been a while since I have seen such literature like for Christians. I am nineteen and I wish that these had existed back then, because I was Lily's age when I came to Christ.

THis is the funniest book I've read in a long time... It's something you can easily relate to. Ray's stories are something that you can share and make other people laugh, then they will ask you where they can get a copy of that book. It's a great book for those who need a laugh!

Originally published back in 1979 as "The Food Connection", this book broke new ground in establishing the connection between what one eats and how one feels, in mind and body, after eating.
In the introduction, Carlton Fredericks says "Drs. Michael Schachter and David Sheinkin have here written a book which proposes -- with all justification -- to persuade you that something present in your food or environment can be responsible for many symptoms of both mind and body. The fact that they are right will, it is hoped, speed professional acceptance of the thesis, although the 'medical lag' to which these physicians refer is seemingly inevitable."
Although the above-mentioned lag still exists, one can find answers in the offices of today's alternative and complementary physicians as to whether one's dis-ease is caused by food, drugs, pollutants in water or air, or anything else in one's environment.

I am an ESL teacher who bought this series to help me teach science to English Language Learners. The series is written for native speakers, not ELLs, but the student pages are uncluttered, and the language is not complex. Each text includes a variety of experiments and activities to teach key science concepts.

Fantastic vintage series on identifying nature. This one classifies all living organisms, with precise yet supercute drawings all over each page. I mean it, these would make great wallpaper or fabric. Plants, animals, nature study projects, bibliography. Very convenient spiral binding to lie flat. Highly recommended. Out of print and scarce.

One of the Books that Started me in Biology

This is a short and easily read book that was written for high school, or possibly middle school students. It is certainly dated by now (it was published in 1955), but the emphasis on the history of biological thought is unusual, as is the clarity of the writing. Indeed, Katherine Shippen wrote very well for her intended audience and at the same time infused her descriptions of the work of biologists from Aristotle to Weismann with heart-felt enthusiasm. I only wish that the history of biological thought would be better taught at this level than it often is today. To this end I think that Shippen's book, "Men, Microscopes and Living Things" should be updated and republished. I am sure that it would influence a whole new generation of students to become biologists at a time when we still need a huge amount of biological research. Its shortness and ease of reading should make it a popular additional reading source.
A wonderful book with great pen and ink illustrations by Anthony Ravielli, I recommend it highly. If you are young, or even if you are older, and interested in biology you cannot go wrong acquiring a used copy of this now out of print tome. While keeping in mind that it is dated in some areas, it may easily lead you to read other, more modern, books on the subject.
