My little boy who thinks, sharks are the be all to end all, loved this book. The life size pictures, are just amazing. My little boy, also loved the information on the other sea aminals in the book. I too learnt a lot, as this book is one of the many shark books we read a bedtime. Yeah, most kids love make believe book, my kids love book that deal with facts. For a book that is read over and over again, we are getting our moneys worth. If you like Dinosaurs, you will love the life size book on them too. Yes, that one too is a fav in our house.

Amazing work

This is an amazing work, several times larger and more complete than the 1975 edition. The text can be appreciated at many levels, from the amateur to professional. Keys to the major groups, but also descriptions of life histories and behavior. Many beautiful line drawings and some photographs. Worth much more than the price.

The best thing I found about this book was the explanation of basic concepts of aquatic parameters and behaviors. After reading this book I found myself having hold on the topic and many other related topics. I would highly recommend this book to Environmental Engineering/Science students and specially whose focus of research is limnoecology. One interesting thing, that this is the only book with the title "Limnoecology". I congratulate lampert and Sommer for their great work.

The vivid colorful pictures attracted me to this book and the nice story of the little fish looking for his mother kept us going back again and again. My daughter (2) loves to look for mother fish on each page. There is always a little part of mother fish to see - although little fish doesn't see her until the end. Sweet story and great pictures. One of our family favorites!

This is a wonderfully funny book with beautiful artwork. It made me want to look up the different creatures to see if they were real. The combination of story and artwork let you read it again and again and still enjoy the story. And every time I read the book I find a new tidbit in the artwork. It is a great book!

Beautiful nautical seahorse tale

I've purchased this book for several of my friends children and they loved it. It's a fantasy of a baby seahorse who wants to know about the brilliant star that he has heard of three kings who want to see the new born child on Christmas. I am going to buy a couple more this season, especially because my young students really enjoyed it. I recommend it highly, plus a book called "Mister Seahorse" by Eric Carle, "Secret Seahorse" by Stella Blackstone, "Dwarf Seahorses" by Alisa Wagner Abbott and "Seahorses:mysteries of the oceans" By Catherine Wallis. WHoops almost forgot "Seahorses" By Sylvia M James. These are great for children who love all sea creatures. Seahorses are obviously mine!! All these books are very colorful. For those who love the oceans friendly creatures. This is a wonderful way to teach students of all other fishes of the sea.

Sharks are very interesting sea creatures. This is about the life of a little blue shark. There are lots of facts to learn about sharks in this book. Helpful charts of a shark body are included. Follow the life of the newborn baby shark as it grow and learn more about the blue shark and it's home.

What did you like or not like about the book?

I liked the illustrations in the book. They were bright and colorful and added lots to the text.

Would you recommend the book? Why or Why not?

This is a wonderful picture book for kids and a great resource for teachers when teaching a sea life unit.

I would have called this book "Tooth Walker," and perhaps have anthropomorphized the "characters" a bit more, make it both scientifically solid (as it certainly is) and more fanciful, just slightly. It's certainly a valuable little book, and as are the marketing spinoffs. I deeply look forward to reading the upcoming series (Grolier) that Carol Young and Skip Crane are producing (over the next two years), on Imagining Nature, a fabulous and instructional series for young children on nature's formations, such as trees, fungi, ice--all the mysteries (and hidden faces) in the faces of nature. This series will spin the world of young scientists and the curious among us all.
