Got this book as well for my nephew who is big time into aquariums and all things of the sea. Great rhymes and illustrations.

Loaded with many excellent pictures and lots of information. The best manatee book I have ever found.

Contains informative and interesting basic information on a variety of sea life. For example, "Shrimps don't have skeletons. Their bodies have a covering of tough chitin. As they grow, shrimps molt. They lose their old skin and grow new skin." Chapters cover: jellyfish, starfish, mantis shrimps, fiddler crabs, octopuses, sea horses, Dalmatian pelicans, sea otters, and seals. Before each chapter is a close up photograph with a question, like "Who owns these whiskers?" There is a very good glossary and index. Word in the glossary are in bold font. Douglass Florian writes children's poetry and creates artworks to go with it. You may know some of his other works - mammalabila and insectopedia. in the swim continues his look at animals. His poetry is short and fun and the artwork is very beautiful to look at. As a teacher, I recommend his books for a poetry unit and a unit studying animals.

After keeping this book for the six weeks the library allows, my four year old was so sad to let it go that we are buying it. It is one of those rare books that a parent won't mind reading over and over again. I thought maybe it was a little advanced for a four year old when we checked it out, but it is so rich in detail that a wide range of ages will enjoy it. Even the adults. The pictures are excellent and the thumb tabs make it easy to find the sections to review again. I think this will be a favorite for years to come. I have reserved Nicolas Harris' other books from the library and we may be back to buy those, too.

I read a book called Incredible Sharks. It had about 15 different types of sharks. It talked about all the parts in the sharks body. I think it will be a good book to have around the house if you are learning about sharks. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 10.

This is a great book that not only children will enjoy, but adults as well. It tells the story of a sea turtle's "interrupted journey" and how the animal is eventually returned to the sea. It was interesting and informative. I learned some sea turtle facts I didn't know before. I highly recommend it. It's a good book for the whole family to read together.

The photographs alone make this volume an enormous pleasure.

In case you are like me and searched for this title on Amazon only to find that only used copies were available from a Marketplace seller "rphiggins," you might want to know that the senior author of this text is also the seller. Seems obvious to you perhaps, but it wasn't to me.

The delivery and processing of my order was fast and efficient. The text is exactly what I needed.

This is a very nice book when we marine biologists need a refresher, or as a starting guide to those who wish to become one! I'm a big fan of the 'Chapter Overviews' at the end of each section.

Not sure why it's nearly $100.00 for a paperback book, though. 0.o
