Everyone Will Identify With This Coming of Age Gem

Any adolescent will identify with the characters and events in this beautifully written story crafted in a deceptively simple, naive fashion that lessons about life, justice, and best intentions surprise the reader throughout the book. Adults will experience memories turbidly tugging the characters into their own adolescent lives. Mixing memory with desire, Coleman successfully stirs dull adult roots with Spring rain while sprinkling confetti on adolescent angst.

This uplifting, thought provoking book is great, pleasurable reading for anyone and everyone.

Intriguing, wonderful imagery, and real characters. The ending gave me chills! Ms. Coleman is a first rate writer! Puts the reader smack in the middle of Saratoga Springs, NY! My family and I, we all loved this book!

Ms. Coleman does it again and even better with a story that has all that you want a mystery to provide PLUS delivers some great characters and fun references and educational tidbits (including the reference at book's end to the fascinating British Library's website.) Tim is a delightful, likeable, human teenage boy reminiscent of Harry Potter, and you find yourself cheering for him all through the book. Ms. Coleman's writing sweeps you along and it is clear, descriptive, inviting, and full of subtleties which make it fun for adults as well as adolescents. You really feel like you are living right along Tim and his various "friends." The lessons to teens to "be comfortable with yourself and your family and to give back to others" make it a feel good book all around.

Great book. I loved the characters. It started out a bit slow but got much better. I really loved the ghost. Edmund is one of the greatest characters ever created. I'm dying to know if the author is going to make a sequel.

A spine-tingling mystery that gives you goosebumps!

Fourteen-year-old Tim Ross has certainly grown accustomed to moving. After all, he knows the drill. Start to settle down, begin to meet a few new people, then be forced to pick up and leave, only to encounter a new moving adventure (or horror), whichever sounds better. But this time, the move is worse. Tim is about to enter the ninth grade. And while moving from place to place in elementary or middle school is upsetting, nothing can be worse than being the new kid in high school. Especially when the high school is in a place totally unfamiliar to Tim, known as Saratoga Springs, New York. This time, his parents didn't even have the decency to let him see the town before they picked up and moved there. Nope, his parents did the unthinkable, and simply rented a huge Victorian mansion, sight unseen, and forced him to accompany them to his new humble abode. The only problem is that the mansion is anything but humble. In fact, not only is it the former home of a Victorian author named Charles Chatsworth, but it's extremely imposing, and looks to be something straight out of a horror movie. Tim knows that there's something creepy about the house on-sight. And, unlucky for him, the entire town agrees with his speculations, titling the mansion as haunted. As if Tim weren't target enough for bullies, considering he's short, unfamiliar with the small-town's local customs, and a total brain, he's now being made fun of for the house he occupies. So now, as opposed to being just the freak, he's the freak living in the freaky house. Tim can't stand the ridicule he's forced to endure each and everyday at his new school, and instantly finds himself both bored and lonely with his surroundings. So he takes up a new hobby. One that could easily make your skin crawl. Tim decides to uncover the missing key to the mansion's attic. Sure, he doesn't know exactly what he'll find behind the closed door, but he has a feeling that it's something spectacular. Something that will make his life more exciting than its ever been before. And, oddly enough, he's right.

I don't read many ghost stories, but sometimes one will capture my attention, and leave me interested in learning more about the mystery involved, as well as the characters. That is exactly the type of impact Alice Scovell Coleman's THE SPIRIT OF CHATSWORTH MANSION had on me. The descriptions of small-town living are right on, and instantly make the reader sympathize with Tim, seeing as how he is rejected on sight by just about everyone he encounters. However, it is the character driven narration, and personality that truly sucks you into the story. Tim is an amazing, brave character, whose ability to walk into any situation alone is remarkable, and awe-inspiring. While he is nervous, and fearful of the unexpected, he faces things head on, from walking into a new school for the first time, to finding a way into the mansion's attic. His attitude is interesting, and his thoughts and narrative truly make him feel more like a friend than a fiction character. The interesting thing that Coleman has managed to do, however, is make the mansion appear more human-like than an inanimate object. Her descriptions of the house, from the staircase, to the gloomy exterior, and even the attic, make it seem as if the house is a living, breathing character, which only adds to the suspense. A spine-tingling mystery that gives you goosebumps!

I think this may be the best book of this yummy/gross series! Shan shows some expert creativity and a passion for what he is writing as Darren and Harkat escape to a world possessing the mystical Lake of Souls in an attempt to find out who Harkat was in his prior life. This new world is spooky, gripping, and thoroughly terrifying in sheer Shan style. He brings several major plot strings together for plenty of surprises and more emotion than I expected.

Cirque du Freak: The Lake of Souls is about Darren Shan and his friend Harkat Mulds. Desmond Tiny has sent them to an alternate world to find out who Harkat used to be in the Lake of Souls. First they must find and kill the black panther, steal the gelatinous globes, and cross an unnamed lake, but they get sidetracked by a dragon attack. They manage to escape. Then they meet Spitz Abrrams and travel across the land. They meet the kulashkas, see the grotesque, and manage to reach The Lake of Souls. I won't say anymore for it will ruin the story if I do.

Holy cow! The Lake Of Souls, book ten of the Cirque Du Freak series, is like the others, wonderful! It is so captivating! I finished it in less then a few hours. I just couldn't put it down. Author, Darren Shan (or so he says) has an imagination we could only wish for. With all the twists, turns, and flips that go on in this book, you'll be so to get your hands on the next one! Hopefully, book eleven will be just as great. (of course it will, what am I saying?) Just read the book. Trust me on this one, you'll love it!

I first read this book when I was in college. At the time, this beautiful, tear-jerking story became one of my favorites. Almost 18 years later, I feel the same way. This story of grief, loss, love, and healing holds even deeper meaning for me now. This is a book I will keep in my collection -- to read over and over.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. It at first seems like a simple story of a man growing older. It mixes the touching and often amusing story of his frustration with the constant worrying of his adult children, about whether his mind is slipping, with one of the sweetest love stories I've ever read. When you think that you have finished, the author then tells the origin of the story and you are utterly amazed. It quite literally took my breath away. I immediately went out and bought copies of the book to share with family and friends who were equally touched. It is definitely a classic.

This was a nice book to read. Not my all time favorite but very enjoyable. It was easy to read and just told a man's journey with becoming old and alone. Sam Peek seemed like a "real" old man. I now see Sam Peek in every old man I pass on the street, in the store or at church. Made me want to reach out and be their friend. If someone you love is growing old you need to read this book.

There are five prom queen candidates for the Shadyside High senior prom. One of them gets kidnapped and then another one gets murdered. Lizzy McVay, one of the prom queen candidates, realizes someone wants all the prom queens dead. Now she must find the murderer before she's next to die.

All I can say is "wow." What a great book! There are so many suspects in this book that it's almost impossible to guess who it is. I could've sworn it was that guy but it was actually someone else. Trust me, you'll never be able to guess the murderer.

If you read this book, expect the murderer to be who you least suspect.

Lizzy is so excited because she is one of the Prom Queens. Then, the prom queens start dying. Stacy, a candidate was found in the Fear Street Woods by a hiker and was stabbed sixteen times. Rachel and Elana were murdered because they were going out with the killer's boyfriend. [Right, it's a girl]. Before Rachel died, Gideon[his boyfriend] dumped her. Rachel's parents were out for ice cream so the killer took the chance to kill her. Elana was murdered in school. She was at the auditiorium. In the end, Dawn[Lizzy's friend] almost died because of the killer but because of Lizzy, she lived.

Looking for a four star book that will keep you from sleeping. The Prom Queen will do just that. Shadyside High is having a prom. There has been five girls elected to be prom queen. They were all excited until sudden deaths of spome of the prom queens occured. Now none of the remaining girls are exicited. They're all taking precautions, Which girl will live long enought to be prom queen i cant say but the end is shoking.
This book has an uncalled for end and each chapter leaves you in suspense. "A spring night...soft moonlight....five beautiful Prom Queen canidates, dancing couples at the Shadyside High prom. These should be the ingredients for romance. But stir in one brutal murder then another and another and the recipe quikly turns to horror" This book is all horror and fright with a twisted ending. With everypage turn you'll widh you were in your room with all the lights on and you mommy holding you close. read this book and be glad you dont live on Fear Street.

Years ago, I decided to purchase the first volume of Shaman King after hearing it from an unknown source. I really had no clue what it was about, or though I think. After purchasing it, I read it, but after three and a half years, I re-read it since I forgot what it was about. Now, I plan to purchase volume two. This volume was heart-racing and exciting. Each chapter had an amazing plot involving ghosts, and the last one was great.

Yoh is a Shaman King. Manta is.. some kid who can see ghosts but can't do a thing about it. They are both friends. Yoh fights ghosts and he helps them.

This whole volume was great. I wonder what is to be stored in the future for this Manga, since I haven't even taken a peak at the next volume as far as I know. This volume was excellent, and I am begging for more.

I loved this book. I read it in two days. Its about this teenager named Yoh and he is a shaman (someone who sees and can talk to ghosts and spirts) and he meets someone named Mantana (something like that) and he can also see these spirts (but he's not a Shaman) and so since they both can see spirts they become freinds. And near the end of the book they meet another shaman named Ren and he is a mean shaman and thinks that spirts are tools and not freinds and so Yoh diden't like that and they fought. Also Yoh units with this 100 year old (or I think more then 100 years) samuri or spirt named Amedimaru and Ren can unit with Bason a Chinese Worlock or spirt. And so thats pretty much what this first book is about. Also after Yoh and Morty become freinds they go on a little adventure. This book is T for Teens and I agree because this book has swears in it. Just to let parents know.

Elaine Butler has always been a good student, so she's not happy about being stuck in Saturday detention at Shadyside High. Along with her in detention are nerdy Jerry; bad-guy Bo; Bo's best friend, Max; and Darlene, the only other girl. Bo decides to blow detention, and explore the school. He convinces the others to come with him...and the five discover a secret tunnel below the school.

At first, the teens think that it's school. But they realize that exploring the tunnels is no fun--it's terror. A mysterious glowing red light has been released and it's out to kill the kids. The five can't find any way out of the tunnels, and they know that the red light can be anywhere. Who will escape from the tunnels...and whose spirit will remain there forever?

TRAPPED is one of the best Fear Street books, if not the best. The beginning was a little boring, but around the middle the suspense grew and the terror increased. After a while, I couldn't stop turning the pages to find out what happens and the ending is a complete shock. Also, this was the only Fear Street book that truly scared me. Even though this is very unlike the other Fear Street books, I would recommend it to anyone.

This is the first time I have read a Fear Street book and actually been afraid. This story is about Elaine, who has to go Saturday detention for missing three homework assignments. She ends up in detention with four other people, three of whom are trouble makers. Soon they end up deep underneath Shadyside High, fighting for their lives. I was glad to see that R. L. Stine broke away from the usual deranged/demented killers in this book. If you have never been scared while reading a Fear Street Book, then I definitely recommend this one.

THE ZOMBIE FACTORY, with its black-and-white retro horror comics, is a superb example of why the comic industry instated a Comic Code. Left to their own devices, it would have just been a matter of time before Bob Kane or Jack Cole had Batman or Plastic-Man disembowel or behead some hapless jewel thief. Fun, bloody, and a cool glimpse into a world of comics that might have been.

These delightfully degenerate comics, the kind not suitable for the sensibilities of the easily disgusted, are deliberately designed to dishevel one's nerves with its relentless excesses of bloodshed at the rotting hands of the undead. Anyone of these blood-splattered tales would feel right at home residing a movie theater screen with the caption, "directed by George Romero."

This book is amazing, (like the other 5) the hardest to get a hold of i must say, but this series really makse you think, and the ending in the last book just blew me away, i won't say any more though... I applaud pike for his writing, he realy makes you sympathize for a character that would be seen as the horror in most books, i loved it i think you should read it too, and if you plan to read the whole series (which you should) I suggest you read the collectors editoins, because the transitions between books is much less jerky. Read this book it is amazing!

I feel speechless right now, I don't even know what I say! That's how good it is... The book is religious, yet not so seriously so that you will punished if you do not agree or w/e, but simply, you'll be sucked so deep into the book you might even smart believing Sita's believes...

Amanda can't help her mom because she is failing algebra and has to go to summer school. A girl named Chrissy answers the ad. As soon as she walks through the door, Amanda's cat, Mr. Jinx, starts to hiss at Chrissy. Also Salt and Pepper, her birds, stop singing and they usually sing. Little do the Conklins know that Chrissy is perfect, perfectly evil!! This book is perfect reading for anyone 10 and older. R.L. Stine has many climaxes and rising actions throughout the story. One Evil Summer is truly a thriller. When I was reading it, I got chills up m y spine. It is about a girl named Amanda. During the summer, she comes to a small town called Seahaven. Since she can't baby-sit her brother Kyle and her sister Merry, her mom hires a babysitter, Chrissy. She seems like miss perfect, but Amanda finds her a bit unique. The truth is that Chrissy wants to kill Amanda and her family. There were many things that I liked and disliked about this book. R.L. Stine made the book so interesting that you couldn't put it away. He described the events in such a way that you felt as if you were actually there. I also loved the way he described Amanda. She had such self confidence. She would stick up for what she saw. " You were floating!" she shrieked. "Don't deny it! I saw you!" She tried to tell her parents, but they wouldn't listen to her.
There were also many things that I disliked about the book. For example, I disliked the way some of the events were a little juvenile. At those points of the book, I would start to think what the author was thinking when he wrote this line. " Chrissy was floating closer! Closer!" The book could have been better.
My favorite part f the book was the ending. It unraveled everything. I thought that the end of the book was the scariest. It was hard to believe the ending....BR>This was a scary but great book.

this is one of my favourite charmed books!!! as it shows true halliwell spirit. basically prue gets the oppertunaty for a front page photo. but the camera she uses sends all the models and pheobe into hades. in the effort to get there sister back piper and prue have to go through loads of greek mythology gods and creatures. this book is a must have for all charmed fans

Officially the best Charmed book ever!!!! *bows to Elizabeth Lenhard*

As far as I'm concerned, ALL other good Charmed books (The Queen's Curse, Whisper's from the past, Dark Vengeance, Mystic Knoll, Inherit the witch, Something Wiccan [just to name a few]) are small potatoes in comparison to this superbly penned Charmed book!!! NO other Charmed novel could possibly be better than Soul Of The Bride!!! Elizabeth's work here, is a masterpiece!!!!

What makes this story stand out from the other Charmed books is her impeccable blend of Greek Mythology and the Charmed ones tale aptly blended in. She mixed the two geneologies flawlessly, very well blended, I should add. Every single tiny detail added in is beneficial for the Charmed ones, and that's what stands out in this book. Alot! For example, the part where Piper takes a quick glance at Prue and realizes that she is still wearing Piper's necklace, makes Piper remember that she had to pay Charon the fee to take them over to the other side of River Acheron, which is taking the letter opener and mother-of-pearl inkwell, just in case. Turns out that the letter opener is useful in impaling the Sirens!!!

I'm not going to reveal details of the story, but I guarantee, whether or not you know about Greek Mythology, you will definitely enjoy this story. Soul Of The Bride is a must-have for all Charmed fans!!!!!! My fave bit is when Phoebe is determined not to give up and succumb to the tasty grub kept in Hades, only to realize they are tainted to make people an empty-headed party animal. Also, all 3 sisters had a vital part to play, and with their team work, girly (and sisterly) support, all the loose knots are tied, the i's are dotted and its a happy ending for them.

My only thumbs-down about this story is just that its seems like a pretty huge coincidence that Nikos had known about Prue's photo shoot and sent Mitchell to make sure Prue's topic is on Victorian Portraiture, using Greek Mythology, which then lures Phoebe to Hades. In the Charmed Universe, coincidence is extremely rare, unless Nikos had known it all along, and places a spell on the them to find out.

But other than that, it is 100% recommeded, you WILL love it, like I did!!!
I paid $9 for this book and every single cent was worth it!!!!

Two Thumbs WAAAY up for Miss Lenhard!! *G*

This one of the best Charmed books ever written. I loved the combination of Greek Mythology and Charmed. Unlike the 'Oh My Goddess' episodes, this book blends both genres together effortlessly. The writing is top-notch... it really pulls you into what's going on. I had a hard time putting this book down (finished it in a couple days.. even with work).

HIGHLY recommend this to Charmed fans. You won't be disappointed :).

Best book yet!!!

I am a huge, HUGE fan of charmed, I love the series, but ANY OTHER BOOK PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE SOUL OF THE BRIDE!!! It follows the story of the power of three flawlessly!!! If you are interested in any kind of mythology, or even if you're not, the soul of the bride is a MUST-HAVE!!!!
