Ghost Books

The opening chapter got me hooked. I read it straight through. I understand that this is GN Henson's first published novel. I bet that people will demand a second one once they have read An Ill Wind.

If you like a good story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last chapter then this is a must buy.

Loved this book. A debut novel of intelligence and style, found more often in the midlife of one's literary career, than at the beginning. This new author kept me entertained, involved, and interested, with gripping twists and turns amidst a superbly constructed plot, and well developed characters. The pace of the story was steady yet engaging, and with the author's descriptive prose, I was easily introduced into the landscape, town and people. The book held a good combination of mystery and horror, with a fair shake of humor and a touch of romance. One encounters themes of human vulnerability when meeting unimaginable terror and the often fragile and temporal nature of happiness and normality. But ultimately, a more subtle theme emerges - that of human endurance and integrity regardless of the outcome. It's a solid piece of writing that believably pulls the reader along to its conclusion.

This story whips you through the horrible results of some unwelcome suprises. It's a well crafted book, with a dark creative plot, and very belivable characters.

I was immediately drawn into the plot. A very well thought out story line with lots of details, great character development, rich in sub plots and story.

This book kept me so interested that I didn't want to put it down. Even when I finished the book I wanted to read more. I'm still thinking about characters and situations I met in the story.

I absolutly loved this book! It's a little pricey, but trust me it's worth the price. I loved Viktor, what a great character! The main character, Isabelle, can be a little annoying at times, but she was bearable. This story really had a flow that is truely essential to any great book. Totally recommend this author, she's wonderful!

I just finished Isabelle by Kelly Gregson Plante, it was a reccomendation from a freind who knows my taste in books.
I must say I was moved and thrilled Isabelle is a page turner.From the moment I began I could not put it down. Kelly takes you into the world of wolves and then gives you a taste of Vampires. It was glamourous and beautiful and at times horrifying and mysterious and loaded with action and adventure. I can't wait until the second book comes out I understand this is a trilogy and I have been left wanting more!

This book grips you from the very first page and doesn't let go until the last page. Then it leaves you only wanting more. The characters of Isabelle and Victor are fire and ice. They make you want to laugh, scream and cry. I eagerly await the second book, (I believe the title is) "Bloodlines of the Wolf" to be published.

This book was given to me and my sister-in-law as a gift with the understanding this was a new author from our area. When I started reading Isabelle, I could not put it down. The era of the book and the places things occurred was fasinating. The characterization of the was truly believable. My sister-in-law and I had interesting conversations of the fantasy and realities of love and its captures. I am waiting for Kelly Gregson Plante to continue with this trilogy.

This book is Great! I have read all of the watcher's series andthis one is the best. I highly reccommend it

He is on a ship he and the busboy jump off to swim. they get seperated at a cloud wall (which goes to a different world Onieron that he doesn't know about)he goes there and he finds a picture album he sees a picture with the busboy (the busboy didn't want to live forever in Onieron.) they tell him that if he leaves the island they will die but he doesn't understand why. WHY WOULD THE BUSBOY WANT HIM IN ONIERON?

This book, like the others, is a little spooky, but that's okay. It's about a girl who is really unhappy. Then she meets a boy who takes her to a mysterious island. The island is sort of spooky, because you just know that there's something wrong with it, but that's okay. I can't say any more without ruining the plot. P.S. The Antartica series is a great series for readers that want books that are a little longer. None of the sci-fi stuff, but still great.

If you haven't read any of the other Watchers books yet, no problem. None of them are related to each other in terms of storyline or characters, but they're all truely exceptional books. Just stay away from this one until you've read the others, though, if you really want to save the best for last. Island is the most impressive and clever one ever written, and leaves you with a bittersweet feeling that no other author can pull off as well as Peter Lerangis.

Rachel Childers is on a cruise ship in the middle of the sea when everything in her life starts to pile up and overwhelm her. She is miserable, but nobody really understands her...except for a mysterious man named Colin who has a lot in common with her and has just the thing to let her life take a better turn, if only she'd follow him out into the sea where he says an island lies that will get rid of all her cares. Rachel follows, but after a mysterious cloud of fog reaches them, she gets separated from Colin and is stuck on the isolated island alone. Everything is fun and carefree on the island as promised, but Rachel soon learnd that it's not just her cares that the islanders are going to get rid of...and Colin is the last person in the world that she'd expect to take her to such a place, but piece by piece she discovers that Colin is not who she thinks he is and the island has a dark past to it, giving plenty of reason for Rachel to never leave...the compromise of death.

Truely the best Watchers book to date, but, then again, which one isn't? This one, however, has everything you expect from a great intriguing mystery, all set in the successful Watchers-style setting, that is, the dark, mysterious place with an eerie and shady past. For some reason, though, this is the Watchers book that delivers itself the best. From the poetic wording to just the very idea of the plot, this book shines in every aspect. Pick it up now, it is worth your time.

Giggle is a nine-year-old ghost who works magic, plays tricks, rescues animals, and even goes to the moon! She is also friends with two humans, Rusty and Lenore, as well as a six-year-old wind from the North Pole named Gusty. Giggle also has some grown-up neighbors that include a piccolo-playing ghost, a wise ghost from the synagogue, and a motherly lady skeleton. Giggle and her family are happy spirits who live in the bell tower of Father Boyle's church. Illustrated with b/w cartoon drawings, the nine short stories comprising It's Great To Be A Ghost! is an especially recommended and totally fun reader for children grades 3 through 6.

Schiffhorst's "It's Great to Be a Ghost!" is a must-read. While it's geared towards elementary schoolers, I would recommend it to anyone. The stories of Giggles the ghost and her friends are so fun and enjoyable! Your child(ren) will appreciate these magical charming little stories, and as a parent you will remain confident that he or she is learning some very important lessons too - tolerance and respect for all religions and people - even if they are green or blue! The large easy-to-read print, imaginative plot lines, and adorable illustrations will keep your child(ren) interested and their imaginations running wild! Kudos to Lynn Schiffhorst for such delightful well written stories - I hope to see more of her work on bookshelves soon! A true treasure that belongs in every elementary schooler's collection... Purchase it, read it, and enjoy it - you won't be disappointed!

I gave this book after reading it myself to my neighbor, Sonya, who is 9 years old . Sonya loves the idea of friendly ghosts and was thrilled when she saw the cover with Giggle's picture. These stories teach tolerance and multiculturalism with subtlety. They are informative, colorful stories that even adults can enjoy. My personal favorite story was about the Thanksgiving cat. And the great thing about Amazon is that the books arrive quickly. My order was even individually shrinkwrapped. Good choice and because it's a reader, it both educates and entertains. Good show, Lynn Schiffhorst!

As a parent of an 8 year old, I was thrilled to have purchased such a wonderful book. My son had always been a little afraid of Ghosts and monsters. Having him read all the fantastic stories about "Giggles the Ghost" and her many adventures, he isn't afraid of ghosts any more. As a Jewish parent, it was a huge surprise to have a story about Hanukkah, as this was one of his Hanukkah presents. It is extremely well written and I applaud the author for her work. The illustrations are also marvelous. And yes, I too enjoyed this book.

This is a great book for anyone that enjoys reading about some of the folklore and ghost stories from our great state. I especially enjoyed reading the ghost stories from my hometown of Richmond in Madison County. Great book!

With a keen eye for what makes a good story, Keven McQueen uses his ready wit to tell each one with humor. These are sometimes morbid tales but told in such a way that the reader is entertained by them. "Kentucky Book of the Dead" amuses and sometimes fascinates.

Keven McQueen has the potential to be the Stephen King of non-fiction! Like King he relies on the most horrific material to entertain the reader. The difference is McQueen uses the reality of the human condition to cause nightmares!!!!! "The Kentucky Book of the Dead" will leave the reader in a dilemma.............Should one be embalmed or risk being buried alive??

It takes a consummate master of the written word to make typically unsavory topics such as death by cesspool and olden embalming techniques come across as hilarious and not just plain morbid. Keven Mcqueen is a master, as proven by his latest book, The Kentucky Book of the Dead. He's got it in spades. He'll waste no time for the reader, offering up concise yet enthralling bits of death and factoids on the mayhem wreaked by the unlucky, uncaring, and just plain not so bright among us. He gives us a lagniappe of amusing tombstone headings as a little gift to the reader, which I consider a fantastic way of ending the book. Also, Kyle McQueen's illustrations help spotlight all the humor and pathos. Don't miss out on this one!

I recommened this book very highly to anyone that has a need for horror

The book is great for any fear loving person. It has action, love, and fear. I'm 12 and got into it and couldn't put it down. I almost got so tearified I couldn't put it down till everything was safe and sound.

I read this book in 3 hours.... NOt putting it down once! Itis a really great story and easy to catch onto.. even if you didntread the first book! (Believe me i know!) The book was really cool. It really gives you a look on reality about how Marin finds the girls even when they are on an island with no cars and riding horse back! This book is so intense and real you will be looking over your shoulder for a while! I really recomend this book!

My grandfather died of cancer in 1992, so at age 16 today, I was deprived of ever actually coming to know him. This book has given me an idea of the kind of man he was. My uncle, Keith Miller, independently had the book published and through this experience he has recieved a lot of feedback from the book.

I fought in Korea in 52-53. Though I was younger than the author of this book, many of the feelings he expresses in Korea's Sleeping Ghosts were almost exactly the same as the ones I had. The book does good at telling how a soldier goes from not wanting to be there and doing everything he can to get posted to the "rear", to getting so caught up in fighting for the survival of yourself and your buddies that you forget all that. Some of the hijinks in the book had me laughing so hard, I was almost in tears...god it brought back memories! It did a grand job of explaining how you go from hair brain screwing around one minute to hair raising battle the next. I don't think I knew any of the guys in the book because I wasn't stationed near Heartbreak, but I swear they're spittin images of some of the fellows I hung out with!

The fighting scenes brought back some bad memories, and the last few pages of the book are hard to take, but that's the way it goes. There's a romance between the main character and a nurse, something that probably happened to 10,000 guys over there, but those things never seemed to work out. The thing I like most about the book is that you can just tell it was written by a guy who was there; the terminology, the situations, the behavior of commanders, and the thoughts of the guys during battle aren't phony like so much of that Hollywood stuff.

I only got one complaint about the book: there aren't enough pictures. There are 15 or so in the middle, but as a fellow who was there, I'd liked to see a lot more. Lt. Miller, the soldier who wrote the book, looked that things a lot like I did...I wish I could have met him. But I'm glad he's telling people what we did over there cause a lot of folks don't know or forgot.

I just got a copy of Koreas Sleeping Ghosts, and I guess you can say I was moved by it. My brother fought with the Marines in Korea in 1951, but he died about 20 years ago...I wish he was here to read this book because it's so much like some of the stories he told, even though this book is by an Army guy.

The book tells a lot about the sort of stuff that goes on that you usually don't always see in the movies or read about. The big surprise to me is how funny some parts of the book are..some of the dialogue is a rip! The backcover of the book says the book was written more than 40 years ago but only discovered recently. I don't know if that's true or not, but it does seem to have a close-to-the-war realism. The ending is a bit tough to take, but that's all part of war I guess.

It's also got some pictures in it that I think were taken by the author, and a lot of them are of the people and places in the book. I can't speak from experience, but I think if you're a veteran of any war, you'll like this book. I know my brother would have. It will probably bring back some memories, and not all bad ones either. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

In my opinion, "The Lambkins" is a great book! I would recomend this book for anyone to read. It is an adventureous and wonderful book. The first few pages are interesting. You don't need to read the first and second chapter to see if its what your looking for. The author has a great imagination and ideas to make a book like this. When you start to read this book you'll not want to stop. Its not one of the books where you say "why bother reading this book I'm wasteing my time." This book will probably interest anyone who reads it. So have a great time and read "The Lambkins."

This is the story of a boy who gets kidnaped by a seemingly-helpless old lady when he stops to help her with a flat tire.

That's when things start to get weird.

He wakes up small. Small enough to fit in a doll house. He and several other children have been shrunken by the lady (using technology invented by her now-dead husband). It's clear she's not all there, and that makes it scarier for the kids.

But this book is mostly about the kids' finding a way to escape, and come to terms with their lives. There is a pull in different directions for them, because the lady "gives them opportunities," like the kid who loves to write, but didn't get to in his regular life, has all the writing supplies and time, he needs, as well as a ready audience for his work (the old lady).

A thoughtful adventure book that's a good, quick read. Happy ending, too. ;)

It's been a while since I was totally drawn into a book, but this one had me right there in the doll house with them. The characters are well rounded, the plot is great and Mrs. Sheperd's totally looney! I loved it down to the very end, when I sat on the tip of my seat, heart pounding. Great read, highly recommend to kids or adults.

The Lambkins is worth your money for the illustration alone! Mr. Keegan is a great young illustrator whose talent and passion for his subject manner is a sight to behold.

I completely LOVED reading this trilogy. Getting to the last few pages of the third book I had to stop myself from reading ahead. My friends and I read this series together and had our own theories of who the killer might be and when it was finally revealed we were shocked. Reading these books is a complete thrill ride. Now knowing the outcome I am so going to read it again. I say everyone should add this trilogy to their collection.

Who's The Real Killer!?
The Party Room "Last Call" is the third book in the party room series. This book is about a girl named Kirsten, who than recently had a friend die at the party room. There has been many murders at the party room, but she still drops in for a visit every now and than, when she's not in school. This is a good book because it always has you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next and when you think it all is over, the killer strikes again. If you don't like long books, that take quite a bit of patience, than I would suggest not reading this book. If you are a person who likes very mysterious books, The Party Room is the book for you. This is a book you should add to you library or collection.

The book is really interesting i like how they make u think that it is Paul Stone that killed sam and then they turn it around completely and it is not the person u thought it was. Then a whole new character comes into the book.
I can't wait to sink my teeth into the nxt one. thanks so much this is the best book i have eva read in my whole life n i aint kiddin either.

OMG I LUVVVV THIS SERIS>> AWSOME BOOKS. My friend recomneded it to me and i read them all and loved them. In the 3rd installment Kristin is trying to recover and move on, since the prep school killer is dead. But was he rly the killer? or was it someone eles? Kristin leaves home to NYU universtity, but still slips back to her favortite place, the party room, with Julie. Kristin feels that she is getting better, until the killer strikes again, and again. She is slowly getting closer to finding out who the killer is, which is putting her in more danger than she could imagine. Can she mangage to find the killer and make sure he is in jail, before he gets her??

This is one of the best travelogues you will ever find about any place, anywhere!
Not to mention about countries as obscure as Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands - two rarely visited, but fascinaing archipelagos indeed.
The author does in-depth research about the history and culture of these places before setting out on a personal voyage retracing a route that was taken by his great-grandfather who had been a missionary in these parts. His homework pays off very nicely: not only does he succeed in getting everywhere he wants to, but also writes a book rich in background info in addition to his personal impressions and adventures. And he certainly does get to some remote parts of these remote countries: the Banks Islands and Maewo in Vanuatu, or Temotu province in the Solomons are out of the way places visited by very few.

Why only 4 stars then?
Well, even though the author claims to be an atheist and thus tries to examine the role of religion in local cultures objectively, he soon becomes obsessed with the idea of finding "magic" ("true" magic, that is) in these islands. He is hoping to find it performed by everyone and anyone from traditional medicine men to the local Anglican clergy, undeterred by the fact that he himself admits every single incident he has managed to observe was either a very obvious trick or at best the result of what could well have been a natural coincidence. This change in focus of the book became a bit annoying eventually.

But all in all, an excellent, amazingly well researched account.
Definitely recommended if you are interested in this region at all.
I read the book just before visiting Melanesia, and it was as good a reading as any to prepare me for my trip there.

This book is a fascinating journey that explores the power of simply believing in something, whether it be religion, myth, an icon or people themselves. It presents facts without prejudice yet reveals fascinating details of the author's personal, emotional and geographical journey as he follows his great grandfather's footsteps to the other side of the world. It combines stories of academia, theology, history and contemporary issues in a non-confrontational yet intriguing presentation of generations and cultures colliding in our ever-shrinking global community. I highly recommend reading Charles Montgomery's "The Last Heathen". It is an exceptional story which deserves a captive audience.

Fabulous book. Part travel, part history, part meeting of two cultures, the author lays it all before you with a delightful sense of humour, a discerning eye, and a sincere respect for the people of Melanesia. It opens up a window to a world most people know nothing about and are unlikely to ever encounter. For me, as a frequent visitor to that part of the world, it was wonderful a trip down memory lane.

By the time a little packet of sand gets opened on page 2 of the book, I got swept up in a tale much grander than the postcard idyll of the cover seems to suggest. The narrator travels tough terrain and has adventures of the kind best experienced in an armchair; he tells them eloquently and passionately; but the real magic of the book is how these experiences are woven into larger and deeper ideas that elevate it past almost all travel writing.
It is beautifully written, it is a great book and like all great books, it transforms the reality of the reader; in the end it is their world that has changed, that has become less familiar, less certain, and strangely more alive.
