A great fairy tale!

I bought this book at the Salvation Army and it was the best 37 1/2 cents I've ever spent! I noticed there was only one review and couldn't help but add my comments as well. The review could have been a fluke but I am here to tell you it was dead-on. The main characters were likeable just as the bad guys were ones you loved to hate. There is another love interest towards the end of the book that was icing on the cake. The bad guys get what the deserved in the end and the good guys live happily ever ever. A true fairy tale!

This was a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It saddened me that the fairy tale had to end. Brage was a magnificient character. He was fierce as he was gentle and strong as he was sweet. I also loved Dynna's character. She was innocent (in perspective) and very generous as she was beautiful. I've read the book now 18 times (after today) and recommend it to everyone. Although there was a bit a violence, the love that so passionately ignites between Brage and Lady Dynna outweighs it greatly. All in all, a wondeful read and delight!!!

The Nixon Family Revealed
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-30
The life of former first lady Pat Nixon, 1912-1993, is beautifully detailed in a fascinating biography written by her daughter, Julie Nixon Eisenhower.

Altho it was first published in 1986, it is worth reading again as we compare the presidency of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush. As for their wives, Pat Nixon and Laura Bush are both inspiring women, tho different personalities.

Julie's research and observations about her mother's amazing abilities, her courage and grace, her love for all people and especially her family, is deeply moving. This is an excellent portrait of the Nixon family, especially about her beloved mother, Pat, and it is very personal.

The White House years during the Vietnam war were filled with turmoil. I remember watching President Nixon tender his resignation on television and seeing his family trying to hold back the tears. Reading about the administration trying to control "leaks", the corruption that existed and the biased media, is not unlike today's political frustrations, more than forty years later.

Thank you Julie Nixon Eisenhower for a well written portrayal of your family. So many books have been written about the Nixon presidency, your family, etc. however, you have given the American people a valuable tool in which to make their own judgements. You are unafraid to write the truth as you view it and I, for one, deeply appreciate this thoroughly enjoyable book.

This is one of the most engrossing books I have ever read; fast paced, extremely moving in parts, painstakingly researched, and written in a solid, straightforward style .
Pat Nixon was born in 1912, and after her mother's death when Pat was 13, she had a hard existence that taught her the survival skills to work her way through her education during the Depression, the many political campaigns that sometimes ended in failure, and the stress and isolation of being First Lady during times of war, revolt, and impeachment.
It is also a love story; it was love at first sight for Richard, but it took many ardent, romantic letters and several years of wooing to win the heart of this strong and fiercely independent woman...for him, she was always "part of everything beautiful I see," and he never tired of telling her how proud he was of her.
There are excerpts from many letters, journal entries, and interviews with friends and family, as well as conversations between mother and daughter. Also fascinating are the glimpses into the lives of the powerful and famous, like J.Paul Getty, Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson, Leonid Brezhnev, and many more.

The early chapters will be interesting for those who like me, live in Southern California, as a snapshot of what life was like in the first half of the 20th century; the descriptions show how much it has changed, and it is also significant to take note of the growth of our government since the days when Nixon was vice president in the '50s. The recounting of the violence and unrest of the '60s in the middle chapters vividly brings to life that troubled time, which we tend to gloss over and forget. There is much history in this book, that provides a good perspective to the world conditions of the present era.
Mrs. Eisenhower does not shy away from the downward spiral of the Watergate crisis, and is very blunt about how it affected her family; she truly does tell us "The Untold Story," and lays out many facts, succinctly and with candor. Written in 1986, it has many marvelous photographs, and clear, readable print. The editing is terrific; there are no dull passages, and no awkward phrases. I am in the habit of giving books away once read, but this is one I will keep.

Mrs. Nixon passed on the 22nd of June, 1993, exactly ten months before her husband. They both rest side by side, surrounded by aromatic roses, blue agapanthas, and the sound of birdsongs, in the garden of the extraordinary Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda, California. The peace and beauty of this memorial site is overwhelming, and so fitting for this courageous, loving woman.

I enjoyed reading this book. The Heroine is a young baroness with troubles. Her husband(whom she married in haste yet thinking it was a good idea at the time) left after the wedding, her sister has her eye for an ineligable partner, and her cousin wants her dead! Above all- she worries about her estate and then falls for the Earl who is skeptic of this female who entered into his life- claiming that she is his wife! He vows to help her eventhough he doesn't trust her. I enjoyed it and I read it over and over again.

This is a very good book to read by a romantic fire, whilesipping delicious tea and cozied up in your most comfortable lounge.Emma Randolph is a young independent hieress who has many troubles. Her husband (Richared Tremayne) left her after her hasty wedding, her sister is in calf-love with an inelegible parti, and her cousin wants her dead! The Earl of Melbourne looked skeptic at Emma who stated that her husband(with the same name) lived here. Never seeing her before in his life he relunctly promises to help her. While in the process falling head over heals. Very good and fast paced. I enjoy picking it up again, and again!

I LOVED this book!! I also found it in the late 1980's. My copy is also being held together with tape everywhere. My dear husband somehow penned to Dana Ransom and asked for a new copy, which she signed and sent back. He then wrapped it up for a wonderful birthday present!!! So now I have two, my tattered old one and a shiny new one!
Johnny Depp did a great job as "Jack Sparrow" But he will never, never top the Spanish Angel. I wish someone would make this book into a MOVIE!!
Also wished she would have wrote a sequel.
This is without a question......my favorite book ever!!!!

Has no one read this book but me? I found it back in 1991 in a Spanish Air Base and it was already worn. Through the years I've re-read it countless times, now it's precious pages are held together by a rubber band. Whenever I feel melancholy for a sweet, funny, at times exaspirating romance, this is my go-to book. If your lucky enough to find it, buy it, you won't regret it. It's an oldie but a goodie. Coley & Merri live on.

Great-loved it gave me a view into the male mind of our species. Miles was a hard guy but very sensitive towards Alexa. And what a guy! He fought for what was right and he fought for her honor. But a note aganist him-he didn't believe her and that caused both of them a ton of pain if he had just faced the ghosts that he should have... Read it it's great!!!!

A book full of adventure and romance!

Where to start? There's so many things that's great about this book. For this time period, women were suppose to be weak and reliant on men. It's nice to see a change where a woman made a difference. Alexa and Miles were great together. They had great chemistry. The plot was exceptional. I loved the passion. The suspense had me flying through the pages to see what happened next. This book isn't like any I've read before. I recommend this to everyone and especially those who love the pirates and passion.

Although this book is slow to start, the rest of the story makes up for it. Lots of true Sioux heritage is mixed with a wonderful romance. For any woman who tends to be shy, the woman in the story will be very easy to relate to. The hero is a patient and spiritual warrior who brings her out of her shell. Very endearing story, but also exciting and full of action. Also, one of the best endings I've ever read! I will read this one again.
Drymon outdid herself. To date, I would have to say this story is a close second place to being my favorite. My favorite being Drymon's "Blaze of Desire."

This book is perfect if you love romance stories about Indians, if you love just stories about Indians, this story tells how one Indian "Spirit Walker" will do anything for the woman he loves "Amber" who he calls "Autumn Dawn". They are both stubborn, him for not wanting to let her go and her for not wanting to admit her TRUE feelings for this handsome Indian who rescues her from a cruel fate. One of the best books I have ever read.

I read this book as a teen and loved it. Bartlett has a lot of insight about the business of filmaking and also a spiritual compassion which is apparent in this book. The characters are always interesting. I'd like to reread this book and was always curious about this writer's career and influence in Hollywood. I've found very little info about him.

This is the other of the BEST two books by Dan, (the other being Jubilation Gap). The man is a master. As usual... his book appears to be a Western... but it's so untypical! The characters are so familiar... the situations so funny! You have to be careful where you read it tho...you'll be laughing out loud. Dan takes you to a real place and a real time... and then lets you follow his character through a series of hilarious situations. I laugh, cry and learn history with each of his books. I KNOW these people...(or some just like them)... which makes reading this historical fiction a real joy. Dan is a master... he is the best! BUY HIS BOOKS...read them... he is an American treasure!

Extremely entertaining western humor.

I read a borrowed copy of Ride the Devil's Trail and am sad this book is unavailable. Mr. Parkinson combines many of characteristics typical of western novels (tough guys, nice guys, tough ladies, nice ladies, a good horse, corrupt bankers, hired guns, train robbers, etc.) with an intricate plot, adds a touch of humor, and creates a wonderful read. The story involves the events that befall a cowboy who digs a well and finds abundant water in a land where such a thing is of much value. He has it, a corrupt banker wants it, and the fun begins!

One of the more humorous aspects of the book is the fact that most every man in it is worried about his investments which leads to some very interesting conversations regarding stock portfolios and the pros and cons of liquid vs. non-liquid assets. Imagine a showdown between two groups of tough hombres that involves a discussion of investment strategies prior to the fight!

The plot is so complicated and well told that I wouldn't begin to describe it here for fear of ruining a reader's enjoyment should they be able to find a copy. I'll just say that our hero travels a long and weary road to complete his investment portfolio!
