Funny and sweet. I recommend Silver Lining by this author, too. Ms. Hardy tells a great story.

Susan Hardy's book is well worth it. She blends humor and romance so seemlessly you don't realize where one starts and the other ends. I'm looking forward to more books by this author

I read a lot of spy stories, and this is as good as any of them. But I also read a lot of artistic authors. And on this score, the book is as strong. The prose is clear and the lessons you learn about life, men, women, father and daughters!!!! Also, at a deeper and more artistic level, the idea of forgiveness and redemption comes into play: You might be able to forgive others more easy than you can ever forgive yourself.

Mr Arkadin is another creation of the genius. A mysterious giant named Arkadin, his fragile daughter and a man called Guy are the main characters of a story in which an unbearable suspense is carried to the very end. However what makes the book rather worthy is the descriptions rather than the storyline. A bit like Fowles may be, but very successful...

When an old gypsy women gives Sally Jenkins a mysterious amulet--promising much happiness if she safeguards it, and doom if she gives it to another--Sally is intrigued. Born on the wrong side of the coverlet, and currently her half sister's drudge, Sally has never had anything of value to call her own. Then a tragic carriage accident en route to London suddenly presents Sally with the chance to live her near twin's life. Masquerading as Simone Gilbert, Sally is soon the toast of the ton, hosting dazzling parties and cozy salons--and the object of two men's dogged courtship. Sally senses a dangerous hunger beneath Tristan Soltern's smooth-mannered interest that repulses her, but she is draw to elegant, black-eyed Gideon Ravel--and tempted to prove to him that she is exactly what she seems. It's a risky game--especially when she discovers that Gideon himself is something other than the refined gentleman she believes him to be, far more dangerous and unbearably seductive...

I think that the author did an exellent job of making you the reader visualize the story as you are reading. You can practically smell the essence of Gideon's love for Simone in every page. In the begging they flirt with each other until he saves her life which acts as a climax in the story. From then on Gideon realizes his passion for her, but to save her life from the renegade vampire Tristian trust is the only thing stopping him from suceeding....

This is one of the creepiest horror books ever written. An entire community on an island is being slowly massacred by giant, vicious, mutated cockroaches. The description of people, including children, being eaten alive is so gut-turning. This is a very good book, very scary and very realistic. The writer's description into how cockroaches live and what they are capable of is frightening. Buy it.

I have only two words for anyone who likes a good horror / insect / scary as heck book. READ IT. READ IT. READ IT. One of the most spine chilling reads of all time. Quite Frankly it is the most memerable and well writen pieces of Horror Art I have ever read. Stephen King eat your heart out. The only other writer i have ever read which comes close is Peter Benchley.

Balanced, Entertaining Story

Review Date: 2006-10-17
The author's mature approach to this very interesting historical tale is very skillful and realistic. The characters are appealing without being wildly idealized, as some romance authors insist on doing. The 12th Century English history is blended into the story without a heavy hand, and the characters don't overreact to everything in the exaggerated fashion that some romances have adopted as the style. I recommend this novel and I'll be hunting down the author's other work. I have to agree with the other reviewer about the cover; it does the book no favors.

Don't judge this book by its cover!

NIGHT FIRES is a wonderful medieval romance, despite its inaccurate, uninspired cover. Intrigued by the late 12c setting and the "hidden treasure" plot, I bought this book soon after it came out last year and absolutely tore through it! Linda Cook's debut is full of atmosphere and high emotion--a wonderful love story peopled with strong characters and lush period detail. I loved it! (And I was thrilled to see that her second novel got much better cover treatment.) If you like medieval romances, you're going to love NIGHT FIRES.

A Psychic Thriller!

As a kid, Roberta Paxton had premonitions and was able to see horrible events first hand when her brother drowned. In the beautiful Nevada high country of Sparks, she works at a home for abused women and starts having those disturbing visions again. She is seeing a killer in real time that seems to be getting much closer to home than she can understand at first. A psychiatrist comes to her aid and there is romance mixed with high country adventure and a surprise twist as the killer gets closer to her and her family.

This story is a real thriller with romance, adventure, and psychic phenomena all mixed together in a blend that works very well. I really enjoyed this story, one that I highly recommend as a great example of Carol's work. She is an author that you should not miss!

Another great thriller from the pen of Carol Davis Luce.

NIGHT PREY is a terrific blend of mystery, edge-of-your-seat suspense, and romance. This is a book that women and men can enjoy.

Be sure to read Ms. Luce's other fine novels, NIGHT STALKER, NIGHT PASSAGE, and NIGHT GAMES, and SKIN DEEP.

A Night to Remember by Adrienne Basso

Review Date: 2000-10-28
A Night to Remember by Adrienne Basso is a delight--it will give readers everywhere a night (or a day) of pure reading pleasure. Eleanor Graham, the heroine, is Everywoman--juggling a demanding career as a financial analyst by day and graduate school classes in library science at night, as well as a part time job that she hopes will turn into a second career! In the midst of the chaos that she calls her life, the managing partner at her firm, Joshua Barton, asks her for a very special favor. Now if Eleanor is Everywoman--Joshua is Superman...and the combination of these two is as sparklingly effervescent as the champagne Joshua offers Eleanor on A Night to Remember.

This novel also offers strong secondary characters and evocative settings. The simmering passions between Eleanor and Joshua, as well as their mutual wariness, ring true...both fun and thoughtful, I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

This book was a treat to read. The author filled her pages with reasonable circumstances to support her story and created a diverse and believable group of characters. The mystery wasn't too complicated, but enough to keep one reading to the book's satisfying end. I immediately looked for and bought all of Mary Kruger's books I could find and look forward to happy hours of more good reading by a very fine author.

The second in "Gilded Age" mysteries by Mary Krueger this is still a stand alone book. I am almost 70 and after I read it I gave it to a college student. We both enjoyed it. It concerns a passenger going overboard and the attempts to find the perpetrator.

Sara Blayne can write a GREAT story. This is one of them. Lucy is the spirited eldest sister of the Powell family. She is determined to marry for true love or not at all. When she learns her neighbor, the Duke of Lathrop, is coming to call on her she makes it clear she wants nothing to do with a man who would marry only to beget an heir. Before the Duke's visit she meets Phillip Carmichael and there begins the romance. Their love and friendship grows until Lucy is lost in it. But why does Phillip keep encouraging her to accept the Duke's anticipated proposal?
This is a wonderful book. You will be hard-pressed to put it down until you've reached the end.

Overall i enjoyed this book. The author has a great talent for keeping her readers on the edge of their seats.

What I loved about this book was that there weren't any graphic sexual scenes to ruin the effect of the book. The love story was more effective with the hint of the desires that they felt, rather than the graphic details.

This was a wonderful book. I loved Josephine and Ravenaugh. They are not the usual society characters. She is a fragile but spirited girl and he is an older distinguished gentleman. But what a hero he is! There are no sexual scenes (which I appreciate) but the emotion and love they feel for one another is very strong. It will touch your heart. This story is so well written, I shed a few tears before reaching the happy ending. I can't wait to read the rest of the "Noble" series.
