What a treat this book was...I could not put it down until I finished it...then I did not want it to end! This was my first Candace McCarthy novel, but you can be sure I will be looking for her previous works.
I especially liked that she based her Native American romance somewhere other than the plains...I had begun to wonder if there were any writers out there that knew about the Woodland's Indians...Thanks!
Another great romance from McCarthy.

Once again, Candace McCarthy delivers an action-packed romance that will keep you reading long past midnight. "Wild Innocense" touched my heart, and it transported me back through time to an early period in our country's growth. This is a book that I will gladly place on my "to read again" shelf. Thank you, Miss McCarthy. I can't wait for your next release.

I generally would not write a review but after reading Newton Maine's review on Willed to Wed by a new author Wilma Counts I decided to let the author know that I thought the book was well written and very good. Being a new writer I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.

Her Grandpapa's will was outrageous. Lady Sarah Longbourne would inherit only if she wed the heir to the adjoining estate Of course. Grand papa thought her fiance would be sweet Robert Markholme. But the young man's drowning changed everything. Now the lady must marry a stranger! Marriage, let alone an arranged one, was simply out of the question for Matthew Cameron. Having once been betrayed by love, he now mistrusted all women. Yet the well managed land of Miss Sarah would pull his new estate out of debt. I like the book. It was well written and held my attention to the end of the story

Normally, I don't read 'romance' stories, but in this case, I decided to read it, going on a recommendation from a friend. Well, I could not put the book down! I had a great flight to Spain, via Debra's story telling. Can't wait to read what she's got in store for us next! Ole.

Wow! I just finished this book this morning and ... Wow! This is NOT your typical time travel romance book, even though the dumb title and cover art suggest that it is. I know there is a reason for the title (something in the book), but it doesn't let people know how special this story is. The title should have been something a little more sinister-sounding. The plot is so different, with a lot of suspense and freaky occurrences. It was exciting and scary, because you just didn't know what was going on. There seemed to be no explanation for what was happening. It all came together, with a very satisfying ending. I was glued to this book and highly recommend it.

I rarely read books by authors that I am not familiar with these days. I have so many series that I try to keep up with that I rarely stray. The title of this book is what caught my eye and I was not disappointed at all. It is a wonderful story that spans the ages. The chracters are vivid, and while the latest craze has been these "timeswept" novels this book stands far above many of the rest. Not only does the premise not make you laugh for a long time, it almost makes you wistful. It is a wonderful book by a very powerful author.

I found a mention of Wrapped in Wishes on a website several years ago when it won a Waldenbooks award. On that recommendation, I read it and found it to be an extraordinarily original and distinctive time-travel romance.
Chloe Plum is a law professor in contemporary New Orldeans whose personal life is in a mess. Her fiance betrayed her. She suffers a miscarriage soon afterwards and finds out she cannot have children. She then begins to suffer from debilitating insomnia during which she distantly hears a baby crying.
She reluctantly decides to try hypnotherapy for her insomnia. In doing so, she slips into the life of a past ancestress in Victorian times. What is even more surprising is her ancestress's problems parallel those in Chloe's own life.
Olga Bicos does an amazing job with the plot: she keeps two different timelines in dialogue with each other and periodically drops in coincidences to have the two timelines reflect back on each other. The reasons for the time-travel are complex and compelling.
This is a wonderful time-travel that is on my Top Ten Romances of All-Time list. This time-travels comes right under Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber for me. Wrapped in Wishes reminds me of Linda Howard's Son of the Morning in a lot of ways, but this one was first and in many ways better.

We got this from the library recently and my 3-year-old daughter has wanted me to read it over and over to her. We have been talking about camping and this book is a fun addition to our discussions. She likes how it gets scary, and then turns out funny. The illustrations are bold and cheerful. I would definitely buy this one!

This is an excellent book. It was written by a young girl who got cancer and felt she was being treated differently by her friends. The story of Zink the Zebra teaches children to accept other people's differences because we are all special and all want to be loved. The pictures and story are very sweet. I HIGHLY recommend it!

Fabulous Retelling of Hamlet on the Plains

Review Date: 2006-03-02
Don't expect to find a bare retelling of Hamlet in 19th Century dress. Deana James creates memorable characters, both good, bad and in between, to populate this extraordinay two book set. In fact, I really think this book should have been published as one volume even though several years pass in the story between the two books.
Deana James is very thoughtful and clever writer. I'm sorry that she does not seem to be writing fiction right now. It fact it is extraordinarily unfair that some romance writers who put out the same threadbare story over and over in barely literate prose are publishing when James (Mona Sizer in real life) is no longer publishing fiction. She is publishing, under her own name, historical works about Texas.
There are also, if you check around on Amazon, two reviews by former students of her that say all the things I would want said about me had I been an English teacher.

If you like a book with compelling characters, exciting plot, and classic dialogue, then this is the book for you. The main characters in the book are actors--Shakespearean actors. As I love (and teach) Shakespeare, all the references added a kick to the story. Even if you aren't familiar with the Bard, the story is good enough to suck you in regardless. I would have to say that this book (and its sequel "Acts of Love"--they really count as one book because the author structured her story like a play so Acts 1-3.1 are in this book & Acts 3.2-5 are in the next) would be in my top ten list of favorite books.

I am a US American living in Spain. My 4 year old loves having this read to her in English or in Spanish. It's been great for our vocabulary. She enjoys pointing out the "d"s or listening for all the words with the sound [d]. During the day, she pores over the childrens' illustrations discovering delightful details such as the Dalmation car's tail!
At night, I usually read it in English only and it works well as a bedtime story.

This is a really cute book about animals (A-Y) being invited and preparing to go to Zelda the zebra's party. Even the Spanish translation is decent (unlike alot of bilingual books), although a couple of words are forced. It's great for building vocabulary.
