For Sharon Mignerey's first book, it's absolutely wonderful. She starts you off immediately on a cliff and you can't put down the book. This story is extraordinary and is well written. Highly recomended.

Sharon Mignery has an art of expressing emotion through her writing. This book adresses a very real and neglected issue, and it will cause people to think. The conflict is very well developed, and the villein is realistic. Her heroine and hero have realistic conflicts, and you will be sitting at the edge of your seat at during many parts, and even when you aren't, you will be enjoying her style of writing and getting fired up about what some people actually do in this world. I think you won't regret reading this book if you do!

Tears, laughter, tenderness, love, suspense. Great!

Ms. Mignerey is a new and very welcome star in the galaxy of romance writers. Her characters, Lexi and Chane, are very human, loving, tender, stubborn, exasperating; all together wonderful. This book brought tears, laughter, excitement -- all of those wonderful emotions that make a book great! Add to that the gripping suspense to make the book perfect. This one is a keeper

Scarlet Bride is a beautiful love story that proves love is sweeter than revenge and more precious than gold. Conner (the hero) was a wonderful combination of a southern gentlmen and a rake. If I couldn't have him in real life, I'm glad Alex (the heroine) captured his heart in Ms. McDaniel's rendition of the majestic old South.

Revenge, a Rogue and Romance... Fun!

Alexandra had a terrible first marriage. Her cheating husband accused her of adultery and divorced her so he could marry his lover. Five years after the scandal, Alexandra moves to South Carolina with her aunt and uncle to start rebuilding her life. But no way is she getting married again! She's got big plans for revenge against the ex who ruined her life.

Her scheming father has something else in mind. He wants her to produce an heir to his banking empire, instead...

Enter our rougish hero, Conner Manning, who will do just about anything for the money to save his plantation from destruction, including compromising Alexandra and forcing her into marriage. But Conner, the county's biggest rake, has also made a bet with bud William that he'll have icy Alexandra in his bed within a month. Marriage seemed like the perfect solution when Alexandra's father came with his proposition: Money for marriage, even more for a baby.

These two strong characters clash, even during their intense attraction. Alexandra has to choose between revenge and love, while Conner has to learn what love even means. This was a page-turning read I recommend to all!

I Love This book! I wish I could give it ten stars!!

I read this book when I was a teenager. Now in my late 20's I still find the story wonderfully written. I love the way Freya(the heroine) was written, she was able to face the way she felt about (Alaric) the hero and not hide her feelings like the heroines on so many other books. She was a brave, noble, warm and caring character. Alaric was written very well too. He was tough, a little stern but he really Loved Freya. I like that the author let them express their true feeling for eachother before the ending of the book. It was done very well because it worked into the story line and what transpired after they had made a Love-pledge to eachother. Penelope Neri really told this story in a way that made you feel that you are right their in the story she has created! Wonderful Book!

The best Penelope Neri book I have read so far!

This book gave me goosebumps from beginning to end. The story goes as follows: The norman warrior Alaric captures Freya, a Viking maid, when her tribe attempts to gain possession of Alaric's home. He then discovers that she is the daughter of his most hated enemy, on whom he long ago swore vengeance for raping his mother when she was with child, and thus sending her mad. He vows that he will employ Freya to get back at her father by making her his lowly bedchamber slave. All does not go according to plan and the two soon find them selves feeling much more than hatred for one another. I have read a number of books by Penelope Neri, all of which I have enjoyed immensly, but this is the best yet!

Fabulous Love Story Rich in Historical Background

If you are looking for a Viking epic and a love story extraordinaire then you have found both in this fabulous book by Penelope Neri - but be prepared with tissues handy as it will tear at your heart as obstacles so overwhelming seem to be thrust in the way of true love.

It starts with a very brutal Viking leader Thorfast a cold and brutal man, raiding a Saxon stronghold. After witnessing her husband and two young sons viciously slain, the pregnant chieftain's wife bargains for herself and her unborn child's life by agreeing to pleasure him willingly in bed. Thorfast agreed to this but on the way back to his ship sent one of his men back to dispose of her thinking that the `unborn pup' would surely seek revenge some day. Sven, the man sent back, could not complete the deed.

It is 879, twenty-three years later Freya the only child of Thorfast, unwanted because she was not a son, is leading a raiding party in an attempt to finally gain some notice and acceptance of her existence by her father. She's buried all traces of femininity in order to be the fierce warrior her father had wanted and expected of a son. Because of a traitor in her raiding party she was taken captive by none other than Alaric, the grown `unborn pup' of the woman whose life had been spared. Alaric will see his hated enemies daughter debased and humiliated as a bedchamber slave in retaliation for the carnage that her father had left so many years before.

Freya is made Alaric's slave - and after many bedroom skirmishes and her unsuccessful attempts at escape, they find that the hatred each felt for one another has turned into love. All might have worked out, if not for the jealous madness of Alaric's brother's wife, Kendra. Kendra had always wanted Alaric rather than his gentle brother. After many ploys to make Freya look bad in the eyes of the Alaric, Kendra kills her husband and sets it up to make it look like Freya murdered him. Never realizing that Alaric's brother was a twin, Freya thinks that Kendra has killed Alaric flees. After an adventuresome journey north, Freya meets up with her childhood friend, Olaf. Suspecting that she is pregnant and in a weakened state she agrees to marry Olaf, only to find out much later that Alaric is alive.

Quite historical in nature, during the reign of Alfred the Great in the early years of England, this novel is an epic love story that will sweep you into the lives of Alaric and Freya where you will experience all the horror, lust, betrayals, and joy as you enjoy this emotionally charged roller coaster of a novel. The many characters were all interesting and richly drawn out. It was, in a word - superb! This is an out of print book but if you are lucky enough to find copy - I highly recommend that you pick it up! A solid 10 rating!

It's very interesting to read this first Henrick book and see where this prolific writer started. This novel is filled w/ passion. Henrick displays a vivid imagination, and one can sense the developing power of his story telling powers. This is a must read for those who enjoyed HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. Though not as technical as Clancy, Henrick has one up on the master in sheer story telling ability. Read this one, then delve into the rest of his work. You won't be disappointed.

THE FIRST HENRICK NOVEL IS ONE OF HIS BEST!

As an avid reader of sea based adventure stories, I've read my fair share of Richard Henrick books, enjoying each one of them. Thus it was interesting to read this first book, that shows all the passion and incredible story telling of a promising writer to come. The characters in this story are well thought out and filled with motivation. The story moves with the speed of a runaway freight train, and one can just pick out the creative foundations of the author who would go on to write such classics as CRIMSON TIDE and his latest(and my very favorite)--NIGHTWATCH.

The Best book I have ever read in my life!

This book was one of the better ones I've read. It really shows the relationship between sisters. I have to say my favorite part of this book was the part on sisters who surrogate for one another. That was something I've never read about before. I say this book is one you should share with your sister if you have one.

If you are a sister...you must read this book

For anyone who has a sister, or knows sisters, this book offers every possible scenario. If your mother or your best friend is a sister, you will better understand her sister bond once you've read Susan Shapiro Barash's interviews with sisters and the voices of experts in the field of family relationships. The sisters in SISTERS : DEVOTED OR DIVIDED are all ages and walks of life, and ethnically diverse. Yet their feelings about their sisters, whether they are jealous or competitive, or supportive or exclusive, are similar. Barash finds some amazing tales, including sisters who steal their sisters' husband or boyfriend, to sisters who carry their infertile sister's baby. What an important book for me, having struggled with my own sister at times.

I really loved this book. The main story of the little heroine Becca Bass, and her guy, Morgan is pretty good. What really drew me in however, was the plot involving Becca's parents, Harmon and Amanda Bass. The story is wonderful. I enjoyed these two characters so much, I searched to find the book that told their earlier story --I knew there had to be one. To my surprise, I found four more novels involving Harm and Amanda. This one is the last of the five-book series Dana Ransom has created about the Bass family. The whole series is just yummy. Make sure you read them all.

Please, oh please, not the last Bass!

Another wonderful story of the Bass Family Saga! Becca has become a Bass to be proud of. Hopefully Dana Ransom will at least give one more look into the lives of the people we have grown to love. What about Randall? Please, we need some kind of closure!

Encourage the publisher to reprint and promote the entire Bass Family series starting with "Temptation's Trail." These books stand out not just as historical romances but as fine westerns adventures. Harmon Bass is one of most atypical romantic heroes I've ever read--also one of the best in this or any other genre.

To use an over used cliche, Colleen Faulkner has saved the best for last. When Ben Gordon tracks down the owner of Sayer and Sons, the new painting company in Land's End, to complain about what a terrible job has been done, he is surprised to find that Sayer is a beautiful woman. Another thing 'Confirmed' Bachelor #3 does not know is that Mackenzie Sayer knew him in High School and that she still harbors the sting of a broken heart.

Taming Ben is filled with heat, heart, and surprises galore, none of which I want to reveal here, I mean why spoil the fun of discovery for you? If I had any complaints, they would be 1) not enough Owen or Zack, I missed their playful ribbing and 2) this marks the end of the series. Perhaps Ms. Faulkner could do a sequel series with the Bachelors Inc kids finding their life long loves? Highly recommended, the series is a keeper.

Great End to the Bachelors series

I have to admit that Colleen Faulkner is becoming one of my favorite authors. I read all three of the Bachelors, Inc. books and I enjoyed them all. I thought by the last book I would lose interest in these characters, but I was so wrong. I love how Mrs. Faulkner used all of the core characters in all three books yet was still able to single out one bachelor at a time. One thing that stuck with me is the character of Max, Bens grandfather, I remember in one of the other two books that Max said Ben would be the one to fall the hardest for the right woman, and it was great to see that he was right. In fact, what happens to Max himself (which I will not give away), but it plays a big part in the decisions that his son makes. One thing that is always disappointing to me is when a series ends and it always leaves you wanting more. I was delighted to read the last chapter of this book to see that Faulkner had jumped ahead ten years to let us know how the characters lives had turned out. This book was a great read and I hope to read more of Faulkner's work in the future.

Ben contracted Sayer and Sons to paint his living room, but the poor quality work and the painters drinking on the job lead to his complaining to the owner of the company. Little did he suspect the owner of Sayer and Sons is a woman. Nor does he realize that the forthright, intriguing woman in front of him is a woman from his past.

Mackenzie finds herself infuriated. Ben broke her heart twenty years ago, and didn't even remember her. She had been too tall, too fat and too quite to garner the attention of a jock like him. So his attraction now, while not unwanted, still disconcerts her. Granted, Mackenzie's thinner, blonder, and wears contacts, but she's never let go of the fat girl within. Besides, Ben turned her down for the prom. He's nothing but a playboy now, and she's determined that either she's not going to play, or she's going to play for keeps.

TAMING BEN provides delightful entertainment. Colleen Faulkner tackles difficult issues within the bounds of traditional, sensual romance. Ben's bewilderment sharply contrasts Mackenzie's frustration, humorously contrasting male and female viewpoints, resulting in a pleasing romance. This warm, funny romance is a definite keeper. Very highly recommended.

A Unique Romance Novel

Review Date: 2000-10-20
Of all the romance novels I've ever read (and believe me, that's a lot), this book has quite possibly THE best male character of all. Raddon develops the character of Buck Maddux very thoroughly, and she isn't afraid to spend as much time with him as she spends with the female protagonist, Tempest Whitney. We know exactly why Buck acts the way he does, and we know that the reasons why he and Tempest fall in love with each other go beyond proximity and physical attraction (relatively rare qualities in romance novels). This, in combination with excellent supporting characters and an absorbing plot, pretty much guarantees that you'll at least like--if not love--this book.

I used to sneer at romance novels but this book won me over to the genre. (Now I'm addicted.) I liked Torch Song because for once I could actually indentify with the heroine. I was delighted to read that like me, Toss is a historian and teacher and not a model, a hot-shot lawyer, a medieval hellion who wears her brother's clothes or antique dealer or any of the other cliches. And Nick was also a delight--a tough guy with a heart of gold. A definite keeper.

This book is the perfect novel for lovers of time travel. When Toss and Nick meet, they are not crazy for each other. (But is one of them actually going crazy? They certainly think they are.) Their relationship develops, literally, over time. Their's is a love that will last forever.

Fall in love with Nick. You can't help yourself. And Toss is his perfect match. When the book ends you will find it hard to leave these two characters behind. This wonderful book realy calls for a sequel.
