#3 FANTASTIC AND IN KEEPING WITH THE SERIES
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-11-29
Rico is affectionately known as "the kid" because at twenty five he is the youngest member of the Rock Creek Six.
A love'em and leave'em kind of guy because of the women who willingly throw themselves at him.

Ah, but when Lily Fortier shows up she hits him in his "ego" and nearly floors him, much to Cash's amusement. Now the bets start. How long will it take to get Lily into Rico's bed.

Lily has shown up in Rock Creek with her "brother", Johnny and claims the saloon that Cash had considered his. This ended up causing Cash and Nate to leave especially after Sullivan backs her up.

Rico ends up helping Lily clean up the saloon and shock of shocks, Eden and Mary show up with their children and help also.
Of course, Lily was expecting a snide set down by these good women. What fun.
Carrie and Johnny bond as brother and sister [maybe a story in the future?] Yet Carrie feels the need to get rid of Lily. She doesn't want any one claiming Rico's attention. Carrie is now nine years old, she was six when Rico saved her [in Reese's story].
The attempts are hilarious. After a seemingly [to me] long session of which room to meet in, a Pinkerton agent shows up.
And wouldn't you know - Jed is intrigued by the Pinkerton man.

Again the Rock Creek Six get together and almost save the day. With Rico and Carrie's help. After Rico receives a very distinctive shock. [another story?]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M Ah, well.

A very enjoyable read...

This is the third book in the Rock Creek Six series. Three of the books are written by Lori Handeland and three by Linda Devlin. This series has become addictive. Rico is considered "the kid" by the fellows he has known and ridden with since the war. He like the rest of them has a past he is trying to forget. There doesn't seem to be a woman, at any age who can resist his good looks and easy charm. But there is always a first time for everything.
Lily, the latest edition to Rock Creek is also trying to forget a past and start new. Not only does she bring changes to Rock Creek, with her exotic beauty and voice of an angel, but to Rico's life as well. As in the previous books, not only does the main characters, Rico and Lily keep the pages turning...but the glimpses into the lives of Reese, Sullivan, Jed, Nate and Cash keep you wanting more. This is a series that is going on my keeper shelf. If you love a good western, with characters that become family, then this is the series for you.

An Opening for a Spin-off... I HOPE!

Rico is one of the original Rock Creek Six: six men, with violent pasts, who are hired to save the town of Rock Creek Texas, which then becomes their home, "or base of operation" as some might say.

Rico may be the worst gunman of the bunch, but his affinity for knives comes in handy and makes him the perfect match for Lily. Both have troubled pasts which come back to haunt them, but it makes for a great page-turner. And-without giving too much away- a person from Rico's past opens the door to a possible spin off, that I'm hoping will bring the Rock Creek Six back for more.

After reading about these guys...six books just really aren't enough! I recommend Rico, but suggest you read the whole series in order: Reese, Sullivan, Rico, Jed, Nate, and Cash. You won't regret it. I didn't!

This is my second Olga Bicos book and I am busily combing used book stores for all her other books. I could not put this book down despite a test the next day. It is a sappy type of romance book that basically has a happy ending for every character. But isn't that why we read romances? What I like is the spirit and amusing comebacks the two main characters have.

Marvelous! A keeper

This was my first book by this author. Now I'll read everything that has her name on it. Bicos is a superb and talented writer. Risky Games has it all--an original story, a suspenseful plot, witty dialogue, a smart & admirable heroine, and a strong yet sensitive hero. The chemistry between McCall and Jake is palpable. They get my vote for sexiest couple. I especially liked the fact that the characters were so well-crafted with flaws and all. This one is a definite keeper that I will enjoy reading over and over.

Olga Bicos should be in HARDBACK!

I was plesantly surprised to find such a unique and entertaining writer on the same shelf as your typical cookie-cutter romances (you know, the ones with Fabio on the cover).

I happened to pick up "Risky Games" the same week I picked up a Barbara Taylor Bradford novel and a Sidney Sheldon novel. I never finished those two because I couldn't put Risky Games down!

Not only does Ms. Bicos capture your attention and interest from the first page, but she keeps it going, weaving more and more into her story, until she brings it to a satisfying close.

I look forward to reading more of her books AND hearing her name mentioned more often in the media when it discusses great reads!

I recently met the author and I thought I would give her books a read; well, much to my surprise Risky Games had all of the things I like in a good mystery/suspense thriller and more (sex, love and romance, that is). The author weaves a good tale and includes some very interesting subplots (especially the one about Sierra the dog) <== Sorry, you have to read it to find out. ENJOY!!!!

Simple Riches is a fiction of romance and relationships that packed with wonderful characters. The story is full of love, emotion, friendship, forgiveness and some insight on life. Through the eyes of a city girl, Mary Campisi brings out the beauty of simple riches (living, loving, hope, sacrifice, family, commitment and devotion) that touch your heart and soul.

Helen and Walter Chamberlain raised their niece Alexandra after the deaths of the girl's parents. Unlike her parents, her guardians taught Alex that one must always be professional and work harder than anyone else does if they are to succeed. Alex adheres to that guidance as she kills herself in order to make her uncle proud of her accomplishments while working for his company, developers of luxury resorts.

Alex is investigating Restalline, Pennsylvania as the possible next sight of a WEC Management development property. She must buy land, but a key player Dr. Nick Androvich, who recently returned home a widow with an eight-year-old son, rejects her development project. As Alex and Nick argue over progress they fall in love leading to the dilemma of deciding between a chance for a lifetime of happiness and her life's goal to please her uncle.

SIMPLE RICHES is a simplistic contemporary romance that stays on the critical path of the interesting story line, which makes for a deep look at a character struggling with opposite pulls. Alex is the novel as she internally battles between her duty to her family, business, and a lifetime of lessons vs. her love for Nick, his child, and the townsfolk. The secondary cast is a strong group that includes Nick who though obviously important and in most scenes is an impetus to the emotional turmoil of the heroine. This is a strong tale by a powerful author who keeps the plot uncomplicated yet lucid and engaging.

Apple pie . . .star lit nights . . . butterflies . . .These are the simple riches that make the world go around.

Alexandra 'Alex' Chamberlain was orphaned at an early age.
Her Uncle and Aunt raised her, and she grew up craving the
attention of her guardians. She discovered that the key to
obtaining the attention she craved were through working with
her Uncle. Her job as a Scouter, allowed her to seek out
future building sites for luxury resorts. Unknowingly to her
prey, she would move into the very town that she had pin
pointed out to learn secrets that would almost guarantee she
was successful in her venture. Her latest project was located
in the small quaint town of Restalline, Pennsylvania. A widow
and her son was the only thing that stood in her way from
gaining their prized land. What was to be an easy conquest
was met with resistance and emotion that she had never
counted on feeling.

Dr. Nick Androvich had returned to his hometown of Restalline
with haunting memories and a small son to raise. He had lost
his wife in a Chicago inferno that he felt was partially his
fault. He was intent on trying to pick up the pieces and
rebuild his shattered life. He relished the fact that life
never seemed to change in his loveable home place - no matter
how many years you stayed away. He was determined to make a
new life for both himself and his son.

The forces that brought Nick and Alex together are the ones
that will surely tear one of them apart. Which one of these
strong individuals would win out and accept the change the
other one offers?

This makes the second Mary Campisi novel that I have had the
privilege of reading/reviewing. As in fine wine, her writing
style only gets better with age. This beautiful story will
have you longing to revisit your home place. Her smooth
compelling plot will leave other authors green with envy.
Such flawless writing is to be commended.

Beautiful cover

This is the 2nd book by Mary Campisi that I've read and she is an author I will definitely be looking for from now on.

The story is as straighforward as the characters. It's filled with good and bad and in-between. It's a town that if you were lucky, you grew up in and if you are even luckier, are still in.

Old fashioned values, love of family, support of friends - all of these are new concepts to Alexandra Chamberlain when she comes to Restalline, Pennsylvania. She comes under false pretenses. She pretends that she is researching the town for a documentary when she really is intending to persuade some residents to sell their property so her uncle can level it and build a resort for the wealthy.

But slowly she comes under the spell of the town and tries to change what has already been put in motion. It isn't going to be easy - in fact it may even be impossible.

It's a story you will enjoy. You may even find yourself looking for other books by this author. She's worth it.

Really enjoyed this exciting new book. Don't have time to read much anymore, but by the 3rd Chapter I was hooked! (and they are short chapters...) It was sort of like reading 3 books in one - not only is it a great read within the Romance genre, but it's also a captivating historical drama, and a fascinating (and realistic) look at healers, folk medicines, etc in the 1700s, all in the context of a sexy swashbuckling pageturner. Sort of like if James Michener and Barbara Tuchman collaborated on a romancer. When's the movie coming out??

Lynne Hayworth's novel Summer's End is a compelling narrative of love and lust, deception, and the desire for revenge. In 1763, young Clemency Cameron arrives in the colonies from England with a passion for healing that is soon matched by her passion for James Ian Alasdair Maclean. Jamie is an exiled Scottish Highlander who has paid dearly for his support of Charles Stuart against the English. The tale is enriched with remarkable historical detail and vivid descriptions of the New England countryside and towns that Clemency finds herself in. Characters are finely drawn - from the scheming Lydia, who will stop at nothing to get what she wants - to lonely four year old Elizabeth, daughter of the widowed Jamie. Ms. Hayworth's versatile writing abilities are amply demonstrated as both the love scenes and Jamie's tormented memories of the battle of Culloden are equally well written. Exciting plot twists will keep you turning the pages - eager to discover the secrets these characters are hiding from each other Patricia Hull

Rich historical details in a romance novel not only help bring another era to life but lend depth and richness to the delicious love story of Clemency Cameron and Jamie MacLean in "Summer's End" by Lynne Hayworth. The background of the novel covers the Jacobite Rebellion in 18th century Scotland driving Scots immigrants to the New World. The heroine, Clemency Cameron ,is blessed with healing powers and an unusual knowledge of medicinal herbs, roots, and flowers. Some early medical treatments are detailed as well. As a New Englander, I was intrigued to read about the role witchcraft played in society during that era. As we approach Valentine's Day amidst the coldest winter in several years, I strongly recommend "Summer's End "as an enchanting escapist read. This is the first book in a trilogy so I am anxiously awaiting the April installment.

more than your typical romance novel

Review Date: 2001-01-26
I haven't read a lot of romance novels, but I know the formula: boy and girl meet, deal with conflicts in order to find true love, then get it on. Summer's End has all that, but it also has much more -- true character development and interesting subplots.

I was pleasantly surprised by the detail of the story. It is obvious that Ms. Hayworth researched the era and developed the characters with historical accuracy in mind. The heroine, Clemency, is not some headstrong current-day lass transplanted to a pre-Revolutionary New England colony; she is a believable English maiden who must overcome her past and find her place in a new and puritanical society. The hero and resident hunk, Jamie, is more than a man with a handsome face, teasing style, and stubborn nature; he is a real person with flaws and issues. I found myself looking forward to the story between the ubiquitous love scenes and really getting involved with the characters.

Summer's End is a great start to a trilogy (the next book, Autumn Flame, is supposed to be released in April). I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a good story. The fact that it is a "romance" adds to the story, instead of being the only thing about the book worth mentioning.

This is only the second book I have read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. I also hope she continues the story of the family of brothers in the book along with the heroine finding her sisters. I very much enjoyed the personality of the heroine, not a clinging vine or damsel in distress that depends on someone else to save her.

I have read several books by this author over the years. All I can say is that she really outdid herself on this book. I am sincerely hoping that this will be a start of a series of books about this family. This book deals with the aftermath of the Civil War and the devastation/destruction that followed. She is very detailed in her facts and interwoven in these facts is the gripping and turbulent story of two young people and their families. I read the book in day and a half. If you like this time setting then I would HIGHLY recommend this book.

I love this story! The characters are warm and enjoyable to read. The tale, although obviously unbelievable, takes one on a fun fantasy ride. Elizabeth's travel to the past are created with a lot of humor and unusual circumstances. The fact that she has no family or friends, gives you a strong indication of where she will make her final choice to remain when the choice becomes hers. Nevertheless, this was a wonderfully entertaining story, filled with humor and romance. Highly recommended!

I read this book years ago and reread it just recently. It's tender and sweet and leaves you breathless. The only drawback is that the author dates the writing of the book with her use of modern-day celebrities- I didn't like that. It's a great story of a woman who lives in a time that has nothing for her- no special friends, family or events to keep her where she is. She finds her destiny in the past. If you can open your mind enough to believe that this could happen, you will love this story.

I started reading Constance O'Day-Flannery's books back in 1987 and I was hooked! I especially like the way she connected her characters with her first few books. All of her stories have captured my heart. I have never been disappointed in her books, they take me to places I've only dreamed about and into the lives and loves of her characters. Once I pick up her book I cannot put it down. As with this book, "A Time for Love" I felt as if were there. She truly is a wonderful writer. I look forward to her next book with great anticipation and excitement.

It isn't how it is in the movies. Cops don't go around shooting people causing massive explosions and high body counts in their wakes - in fact killing someone can be a very traumatic experience for many police officers. "Twisted Obsession" is the story of one these cops, veteran and highly celebrated officer Jay Mundie, kills a man and is completely justified in his actions. Not wanting to burden the department with the psychological baggage, he pushes himself further... with disastrous mental results. "Twisted Obsession" is a deftly written and intriguing psychological thriller, and a must for any fan and community library fiction collections with a focus on police thrillers.

Twisted Obsession, is about a police officer who while on a domestic call has to shoot a man. The affects of this shooting send Officer Jay Mundie on a roller coaster ride of emotions. He has been cleared by the state police and found that the shoot was justifiable. But the shooting of Moe Jackson, awakens an evil in Jay that the town of Cutler, VA is not ready for. The lead investigator in the recent rash of murders in and around Cutler is beginning to suspect that it could possibly be a police officer that is doing the killings. Are his hunches correct? Can he find out who it is before more murders occur? You will have to read the book to find out.

Twisted Obsession is Mark Kearney's debut novel. He is an up and coming crime thriller author who, if he continues to write this way, may find himself being compared to Patricia Cornwell.

The book sounded like fun and I liked the cover. Never read this author, but I will in the future! When good girl Emily decided she needed to change her life, she contemplated some pretty crazy things. (The topless beach scene is hysterical.) But one thing she didn't do--and I'm so grateful for--is decide to have a meaningless fling with the first good-looking guy she met. I've read these books, where the woman (stupidly) engages in a boinkfest with an almost total stranger. Haven't they ever heard of diseases or serial killers? Anyway, Emily picked on the wonderful Jake Wolf. She'd known him, the town's resident bad boy as she'd grown up, but Jake found out quickly he really didn't know Emily half as well as he'd thought... or half as well as he'd like. These engaging characters actually grew as people and I believed their happily-ever-after. Try this book. I'll bet you believe it too.

Emily Loughlin is no longer the sweet, innocent obedient woman she once was. After years of feeling unfulfilled, stifled, and frustrated, she's realized that her life really isn't her own. It belongs to others who control and manipulate her for self-centered purposes. Her brother believes she's suffered a breakdown. So he asks Jake Wolf, a childhood friend, to pursue her and keep an eye on her while she's away. Dressing and behaving in an unusual manner, Emily scares Jake with her brash assertion of self. Her clothes are sexually provocative and flashy, her desire to launch a career in designing too risky for the conservative crowd she once hung around. Then the unthinkable happens... Jake falls for the new Emily. Rose writes excellent comedy and hits a universal chord in adult women who have never come into their own. Her scenes are vivid, detailed, and hilarious. If you're not laughing, you'll be touched by this heroine's transition.

This summer my mother came home with this book. Not exactly this book but the Dutch translation of it because I live in The Netherlands. Windswept is good romance novel. The heroin is not a typical shy sweet girl. She is a about to step into womanhood and in spite of the time she lives in, knows very well what she wants and she goes for it.
Cynthia Thomason has got an good eye for detail wich makes this book not only romantic but also exiting and witty.

Finally, historical romance that satisfies a reader's every desire! This one has it all: a sulty setting, a compelling love story between a brooding but very sexy hero and a spunky, ever-optimistic heroine, historical details that are fascinating but never overwhelming, and an adventure that sweeps the reader along. Ms. Thomason's writing is exquisitely smooth, her characters and plot entirely original. Loved it!

Windswept carries you away to the shipwrecking days of Old Key West where the heat rises faster between the main characters than from the tropical sun. Mix a strong sense of humor with a sexy hero, an independant heroine, and a dark family secret, and you've got a fast-paced winner. Cynthia Thomason delivers witty dialogue with ease, and I can't wait for her next book!

Cynthia Thomason's newest book was wonderful! A really great romance in a lush setting. Lots of excitement and intrigue. The mystery surrounding Jacob kept me turning pages and the ending was very satisfying. Nora is definitely a heroine to cheer for!
