I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed this story. I'd never heard of Rachel Summers before but I sure will be watching for her from now on. Her book was one of the best I've read all year. It was so much fun, and the Mormon stuff was fascinating. I hope she'll do a sequel and give us Cale's story in her next book.

A phenomenal--pun intended--romance with a dose of mystery

This page turner riveted me with vivid characters, the tension of a murder, the passions of the hero and heroine...and the passions of an old house that yearns for...you'll have to read it to find out! The author blends period history seamlessly into the story while never missing a step in advancing a gripping plot.

The hero and heroine in Scent of Roses will steal your heart. Wonderful secondary characters such as Whip's young daughter and the proper English butler provide humor and good fun. I loved it, beginning to end.

A fresh slice of western Americana. Compelling story!

"A real sense of time and place, a hero to die for in Whip Kincade, and a story that will touch your heart- you'll find this and more in A SCENT OF ROSES. Set in 1889 in a mining town in Arizona Territory, this book combines a strong romance with gripping suspense. Whip joins with Rosalyn Delaney, widow of his murdered partner, to find the murderer and foil the renegade Morman cult leader who is intent on making Rosalyn his thirteenth wife. A compelling read."

Will leave you gasping and wanting more!

Rosalyn Delaney's husband, Josiah, mysteriously vanished six years ago. Desperate to find her missing mate, Rosalyn travels to his last known whereabouts - the rough mining town of Whiskey Ridge, Arizona. She arrives unannounced at Rose House, an old mansion reputed to be haunted, only to discover turmoil all around. Josiah has been killed, and his business partner, Whip Kincade, is wanted for his murder. On top of this, a woman claiming to be Josiah's wife is encamped at the house and Kincade's young daughter Lenna has been abandoned to the care of Smythely, the mysterious British butler. Determined to uncover the swirl of secrets surrounding Josiah and his death, Rosalyn decides to stay - even when she begins to receive nightly visits from a charmingly sensual "ghost."

Escaping a troubled youth, Whip Kincade hoped he could make a fresh start by coming to Whiskey Ridge and opening a saloon with his friend, Josiah. Now, as a murder suspect hiding in the secret passages of his own house, Whip's future looks bleak indeed - unless he can find the real killer. But the unexpected intrusion of the beautiful Rosalyn ruins his plans of sneaking out at night to investigate. Scaring her away was the first step in clearing his name, but Rosalyn didn't rattle easily. And Whip wasn't sure he wanted the lovely widow to walk out of his life - especially when she just might take his heart with her.

Rachel Summers has spun an intriguing story straight out of the Old West that will leave her readers gasping and wanting more. Summers shows that she did her research carefully in her accurate portrayal of the times and circumstances involved in her story. I was particularly impressed at her handling of the delicate issue of Mormon beliefs; it was very well done. The dash of paranormal mysticism lends a uniquely thrilling touch to a fantastic story. Look for Summers to become a major player in historical romance.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a well-paced romp through the suffrage era with a delightful heroine and a charming hero. There's a touch of mystery, and a large dose of the sensuality Patricia Waddell does so very well. You won't be disappointed with this book.

A STYISH MARRIAGE is a touching love story. Regina Van Buren is everything a man could want, intelligent, spirited, and lovely. She's also a determined suffragette, who has no interest in marrying an old-fashioned man. Match her up with a man like the old-fashioned, but handsome, Jonathan Belmont Parker, and the sparks start to fly. Their story is entertaining, witty, sensual, and full of just enough surprises to keep you turning the page. I highly recommend this book.

"A Stylish Marriage" is another star on this up and coming author in the romance industry.

Regina is a strong, spirited suffragette who never plans to marry until Jonathon walks into her life. Who will be the winner in this game of love and marriage. You must read to find out. I must add there is a sub plot to this book that brings Patricia Waddell's writing to full circle. She never leaves her reader's wanting more.

Her Best Book Yet!

I've read several of Patricia Waddell's books, and this one is her best yet. As usual, she does something really different--different setting, time period and characters. Jonathan is an alpha hero but still has a lot of tenderness and great charm. And I loved the women's suffrage element!
Definitely a one sitting read.

This book was a joy! I loved the feisty heroine and the old-fashioned hero who doesn't turn out to be as hard-hearted as he wants everyone to think he is. The secondary characters are well written, and story truly reflective of the times it represents. There's history here, but it doesn't overshadow the story (I like that). I gobbled this book up in one read! If you like a sexy, well-written romances, with lots of unexpected things going on - A Stylish Marriage is for you.

I really enjoyed this book. At the beginning of this book you are introuduced to Eden who is traveling to Rock Creek with 2 stray children that she has taken in as her own. Along the way she runs into Sullivan who escorts her the rest of the way to Rock Creek. Sullivan soon realizes that the lady he is traveling with is Jed's little sister. He tells himself to stay away but soon finds out that it's near impossible. When Eden & Sullivan arrive in Rock Creek Jed is out of town so it gives them more time to build a romance. Sullivan soon has druken Nate marry him & Eden so they can go further in their relationship. Shortly after that Jed returns & calls the marriage null & void. It's a fun book. Be sure to read Rock Creek: Reese by Lori Handeland first. I was little disappointed that you didn't really see much of Reese in this book but other then that the book was pretty good. Recommended.

I guess I like 'em tall, dark and handsome [covers of Sullivan and Rico]
Sullivan as an unwanted "half-breed" is one whale of a character.
But I surely did like it that Eden Rourke saved his hide. And her with two youngsters in tow. It was a chuckle as Teddy and Millie continued to call Sullivan "papa" when they reached Rock Creek. Cash wasn't about to let Sin forget his role.

And only Eden could get him to reveal his name and dared to call him "Sin". What a gal.

Rock Creek Hotel was a dismal place but the only one with room for everyone. Sullivan took Eden and the children there to settle in.
And wouldn't you know that Cash caught Sin and Eden "cleaning the tub" and stealing some kisses and leaving a dire warning of what would happen if Jedidiah caught them.

Eden shuddered at the blank, dead look in Daniel Cash's eyes.
She also soon learns of Reese and Mary, Mary is kept busy with their little daughter, Georgie. Eden eventually needs to seek out Mary for some woman talk.

I loved it - Eden agrees to marry Sin in order to explore what when beyond the most stirring kisses she has ever experienced. Is this called love? She knows it is and Nate agrees to marry them.

Sin does not love Eden, this is just sex or so he thinks. But he does not have a chance against Eden, Teddy and Millie .
And as practice makes perfect, with Jed never finding out, Eden will enlarge their family.

The wonderfully strange part is Eden taking care of the hotel owner and gaining ownership of what she later calls "Paradise Hotel" and Sullivan finds a way to stay home.

Wonderful love story - fantastic characters, both male and female -- a keeper set of the Rock Creek Six [can't wait to read the rest]

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- will stay in my library

The rock creek 6 really "rock"! Incredible series LH and LD.

I have never read anything like this series. It's "steel magnolias" for men, an incredibly rich series about tough, hunky men and their friendship. It deals with their emotions and vulnerability and of course the tough veneer we have to always get through. "Reese" the first book was definitely about the guys relationship. It is undoubtedly the best of the series and if read first sets the stage for all the guys. You will love each of them. I then read "Nate" who is the lost soul. Tormented by the memories of the civil war, he is surviving amidst this male circle and is "saved" by a fiesty female who won't let him give up. Alot of angst in this one. It's excellent. "Sullivan" is the "uncivilized" halfbreed. The strong, silent type who doesn't belong in either world or so he thinks. This book is pure delight. Very different from the other two books. Very little reference to the war with some focus on the tight friendships but much more a love story. Eden is perfect for "Sin". And you can watch her melt the other tough guys down while she's at it. I also read "Cash" which tied the series up well. He's the coldblooded gunslinger. I liked the book but couldn't warm up to him as much as the others. Planned on skipping Rico and Jed, but now that Sullivan and Jed's sister are together, I have to find out about "Jed." So enjoy!

SINfully Fun!

The stronger character in this novel is definitely the petite, tender-hearted heroine. The things Eden has to go through to finally win the heart of the man she loves!

I enjoy the humor... and will never look at "cleaning the tub" the same way again! I enjoyed the big brother, little sister relationship between Eden and Jed... as well as the conflict Sinclair "Sin" Sullivan faces when he falls for his friends baby sister!

It all makes for a great western romance and a super second installment to the Rock Creek Six series. I absolutely love these characters!

For those unfamiliar with the series, the books are: Reese, Sullivan, Rico, Jed, Nate, and Cash. And they are all fabulous!

This series is not to be missed

Even if like me, you are not a fan of books set in the West, this series is excellent. The characters come alive in these books. It is hard to believe that two authors could come up with such well connected stories. I can't wait for Rico by Lori Handeland to come out! The month just takes too long to end. :-)
I would suggest that you also pick up Reese by Lori Handeland. It is the first book of this series and a great introduction to these six great heroes.

My wife suggested I read this book. I am glad I did. So much goes into understanding how our country is protected and needs to be protected.

The author is very knowledgeable as he was a former maritime investigator and a prior maritime intelligence officer. I trust what he says in his book.

This book helped me understand exactly what we are up against when it comes to criminals and terrorists.

I highly recommend this book to people so they can understand what is all involved in protecting our country.

I have to admit that I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy Terrorism and the Maritime Transportation System, but I am so glad I read it! Anthony Davis obviously has the background to put together such an awesome piece on a topic that, to my knowledge, hasn't been full covered before.

I learned so much about the military, how terrorism can and will affect us, security, and even the ships themselves! I've learned more in this one book than I've ever learned from reading any other reference piece before.

After reading Terrorism and the Maritime Transportation System, I have a new found respect for those in the field and I'm thankful that Mr. Davis has put this book together to educate the public without making the content dull or boring. I found it difficult to put this book down as I wanted to keep learning more through every turn of the page.

An exceptional book

Terrorism and the Maritime Transportation System is an honest-to-goodness factual book written by my good friend Tony Davis. I think that his writing style not only keeps you aware of what can happen and has happened, but what can be done to reduce the risk from his actual hands-on experience and background. Tony's factual accounts of what are encountered in our cargo and the security as a whole makes this a valuable book. [...]
He reiterates some great reminders, what could have been done and experiences with what he lived and worked with from 9-11 forward. I highly recommend this book for pleasure or for a reference book.

"Terrorism and the Maritime Transportation System Are We on a Collision Course?" by Anthony M. Davis USCG, Ret. is an interesting book on the challenges our law enforcement and other agencies have to keep the USA safe.

The book describes the agonizing steps the officers have to go through to determine if the incident in question is a crime or a terrorist act.

The book will educate you on the new laws passed due to terrorism.

Anthony M. Davis does a wonderful job explaining why the Middle East does not get along with the Jewish people. The fact may surprise you that it is not about religion.

The book further describes all of the work we as a nation need to be doing to keep ourselves protected. There are so many areas that terrorists could threaten our citizens.

I am glad I read this book to further educate myself. We as citizens of the USA need to be aware of what is going on to keep ourselves safe. I suggest you read this fascinating and educational book. Then writing our congressmen to make the necessary changes to keep our families safe!

Brilliantly written to easily read and understand.

From the back cover:

Rosanne Bittner's extraordinary talent pulls us into the lives of her characters--the men and women whose spirit settled the Old West. Once again, we live, love, and triumph with them in her towering new saga of a time filled with wildness and adventure...of a man and a woman whose search for their kidnapped children is a journey no reader will ever forget...

Texas Passions

When old enemies of ex-Texas Ranger John Hawkins seek revenge against him and his beloved wife, they steal a treasure beyond price: their young son, Texas, and his little sister, Honor. John and Tess have become pawns in a cruel game meant to lure them into a deadly confrontation. But John, a half-breed known as "Hawk" to many, is not a man to be wronged. And Tess, a daring woman with amazing courage, will stope at nothing to save her children.

Now, with danger at every turn, they bravely follow their son and daughter wherever their cries lead; sacrificing everything to save their family with an indomitable love--one powerful enough to overcome the most overwhelming odds...

And my reivew:

While this was a sequel book (following "Texas Embrace"), it was also one that could stand perfectly well on its own. I hadn't read the preceding book, yet I was never lost or confused.

I am used to reading huge, thick sagas by this author, so this 300 page book went a lot faster than many of her other books. That's not to say it wasn't enjoyable. It was. Bittner did an excellent job of portraying the pain a parent would feel when living the horrible nightmare of having one's children stolen. The talented author managed to do this without letting the book feel too dark or depressing, which is not an easy task.

Both John and Tess were wonderfully strong characters, and they were well-drawn. You really felt as if you knew them by the end of the book.

However, the action part of this book was pretty formulamatic, so don't buy this looking for any shocking plot twists, because there aren't any. However, as a good old gun-fighting western, this book is a hit.

It wasn't the most memorable of books. Other books I can quote chapter and verse after just one read (the curse and blessing of ADD), but this one wasn't one of those.

Still, if you're looking for an enjoyable read, or if you want to catch up on the characters from "Texas Embrace", then this book is for you.

I loved the book, haven't read the first one yet, but will look for it when I go to a used-book store, since it is out of stock on amazon.com. Has another book been written after this, maybe about Ken and Jenny's story? The way Texas Passions ended, there is always hope for another one to follow. I feel I would have done for the bad guys exactly like John & Tess did, she certainly did her part to rescue her babies.

Once again Rosanne Bittner has created a excellant read that you can't put down. For those who haven't read the first book- Texas Embrace you'll want to read it when you finish this one (if not before). This is a great love story about John Hawkins & his wife Tess. But also it is about a parents great love for their children and what each is willing to endure for the other. It is a real tear-jerker (happy tears) along with heart stopping suspense and a good old fashion hero & heroine thrown in to melt your heartstrings. It will keep you up all night reading and then some. If you've never been a reader before, this book (or any of Ms. Bittner's writings) will make you a dedicated fan (of both the author & subject matter) for Life!!

When I purchased TEXAS PASSION, I did not know it was a sequel. It is the continuing story of ex-Texas Ranger John Hawkins and Tessa Reeves. In TEXAS PASSION, John and Tessa have been happily married for nine years and have two wonderful children, Texas and Honor. Their happiness is shattered when an old enemy escapes from prison and teams up with unknown enemy determined to take revenge on the Hawkins. Their children are kidnapped and their old friend, Ken is gravely wounded while trying to protect them. The chase is on and we see John turn from a peaceful rancher to the feared and deadly warrior he once was. John, Tessa and their children struggle through many hardships before they are reunited. The revenge that John takes on those who threatened and hurt his children is brutal and relentless. I couldn't help cheering him on. The family's reunion was heartwarming. I loved the Hawkins so much that I ordered TEXAS EMBRACE, the story telling how it all began. I can't wait. This was a glorious book and I recommend it. You'll love it. Trust me!

Savannah Connor has come to a seaside Southern town to work for women's rights in a factory. But when she meets sexy lawman Zach Garrett, she decides that maybe she should test out her womanly ways, as well. The two enter into a torrid affair even as they butt heads over just about everything else. But Savannah secretly longs for love and acceptance, and Zach finds she helps him heal from the death of his first wife and the hardships his job can be.

Savannah and Zach have great chemistry in this book. Not only do they have sexual attraction, but they seem to genuinely like each other. Often writers forget that when they write hero/heroine relationships where the lead characters argue. But here the two slowly learn about the other's darker sides, wants and needs. And it adds up to a satisfying conclusion that makes sense as much as it makes the reader happy to see them happy.

Also look for appearances by Elle and Noah from TIDES OF LOVE. I also sense there may be another book for the third Garrett brother. :) One can only hope.

Very recently, two of my grandparents from opposite sides of the family passed away. I was saddened tremendously, and often isolated myself from school friends, sobbing all day long. One day my mom found a few copies of this book in the bookstore (she had been looking for a copy for her friend) and bought two, one to replace the one she had lost, and one to give to her friend. I read her copy and enjoyed it thoroughly; it changed my life forever. I can only give TDwA a solid five stars, as it is one of the greatest books ever written. It sheds light on nearly every aspect of life and death, relationships, and the history of the universe. Buy this book now!

A friend convinced me to try a session with Thomas Jacobson as he channeled Dr. Pebbles. He allowed me to videotape the session, and I was amazed by his insight. Even after watching the tape over again and again, it fascinated me. Certainly many naysayers would would dismiss this kind of event,
but I don't agree. No one could provide such deep insight and clairvoiance as a ruse.there was little hesitation. he didn't have time to make up stories to fit the exact circumstances. Even if it was faked somehow, it was outstanding.

This book is a terrific introduction and summary of the teachings of Dr, Pebbles. If you have even the slightest open mind, you will find his approach to life refreshing, clear and simple.

Life changing? Dr. Peebles' teachings changed my life more significantly than anything I have ever done or experienced. He taught me how to deal with my job, my family, my life.

The book has been a lifeline. I have one copy I loan to friends in need. The other, I pick up and reread with great pleasure. I don't normally reread anything.

Don and Linda Pendleton captured the essence of Dr. Pebbles through Thomas Jacobson's channeling. I have been with Thomas, and the Pendletons give us a great insight into the teachings of Dr. Peebles.

Read this with an open mind, and you will never approach life the same way again. It's all good. you'll be glad you did.
If you get half the benefit I did from this book, you will be glad you read it.

Ms. Blair has always delighted me with her characters' vulnerability and wit. She manages to keep them within the constraints of their very repressed society and yet they are always extremely accessible and modern feeling in their sentiments. This book has some of her best character work yet, and lots of great humor, as well as definite tension. Even knowing they must get together, she sets up enough foils that you are turning the page, eager to find out HOW. I easily identify with her characters and feel their pulse racing thanks to her very filmic style of writing. More please!

I've been a fan of Catherine Blair's work for a while now and, as this latest book proves, she just keeps getting better. Ms. Blair has a good feel for character and dialogue, and this latest venture is full of humour and warmth. The story flows effortlessly, and despite the fact that you know it will end happily--otherwise why are you reading it--Blair keeps the suspense of "will they or won't they" right up to the last page. Blair's writing in "A Viscount" shows a welcome loosening of formality--the Regency stuff is all there, but not as dense as with her first few novels--the phrase "doing the pretty" only pops up about once or twice here.
Bottom line: loved it! Can't wait for her next offering

Handsome Jack Harrow has just become Lord Harrow, a viscount with a wealth of responsibilities. His first instinct is to hire a new estate manager, as the current one had grown senile.

The estate manager's daughter, Olivia Faraday, is less than excited about the viscount's arrival. Two years ago, she met him during her Season--very briefly. He represents success and privelege, everything Olivia resents. She herself is destitute. Though her sisters seem smitten with the viscount, Olivia thinks he's pompous. And he thinks Olivia is a prickly gorgon.

But the more they banter with each other, the more they like each other... though neither of them are willing to own up to the unlikely attraction.

This book is very, very good. VERY good. The dialogue crackles with life, and the author managed to breathe a lot of personality into her characters. There was never a dull moment. The story is full of wit and charm, and leads up to a wonderful, heart-warming ending. If you don't smile when you read this, I'll be very surprised. The characters were very young, but the book is very enjoyable. I definitely recommend it, especially for the holidays.

a satisfying read

While "A Viscount For Christmas" is a little more somber and angst-ridden than is the usual Zebra Christmas fare, it still proved to be an interesting and compelling read -- even if things became a tad too complicated towards the end.

Miss Olivia Faraday is near the end of her tether: her father's mental health seems to be slipping faster than ever, they practically have no money left, and now her widowed elder sister, Susanna, and her two sons are about to turn up. How is Olivia to stretch the budget in order to house and feed three extra people, especially when Christmas is around the corner? But the crowning worry comes in the shape of Lord Jack Harrow. Olivia's father used to be the consulting agriculturist for Lord Harrow's now deceased uncle. Now Lord Harrow has inherited Littleton Park, and Olivia cannot help but fear that Lord Harrow will retire her father. What would the practically penniless Faradays do then? And where would they go? The very thought that the fate of her family lies in the hands of a care-for-naught fribble like Lord Harrow is enough to make even the most optimistic of women feel bilious! But Olivia has a plan. She will make the useless man see that her father still has a lot to contribute and that he is on the road to recovery. So what if it will mean that she will have to spend an inordinate amount of time with the man? But when Lord Harrow proves to be kind, generous, intelligent and self-effacing, Olivia cannot but fear that in her zeal to prove her father's worth, she has left herself open to a different kind of threat...

What makes this novel good is the manner in which the authour allows us to see the changes in Lord Harrow -- from the careless fellow in the first few chapters, to the more responsible landlord at the end of the book. Ms Blair also does a wonderful job of depicting all the worries and angst that Olivia feels and experiences. It is true that Olivia is a bit sour and harsh for most of the book, but factor in all that she's coping with and going through, and I do think that most readers will forgive her her less than sunny nature. The subplot involving Olivia's sister, Susanna, was rather interesting too. And if I had one complaint, it was that things got a little too complicated towards the end of the book, with Lord Harrow and Olivia talking at cross purposes and the whole missing money bit. On the whole though, "A Viscount for Christmas" was a thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable read, with believable and engaging characters facing real problems. Definitely recommended reading.

THE ROAD WARRIOR IS CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'

I was just in the amazon.com-hood when I had a "where is it now" pang. I ditto all my fellow reviewers on the kick assness of the entire series. I read them all back in the 80's when they were hot off the press. Yes, the science is a tad on the exaggerated side. However, after seeing the Twin Towers implode, it does lend some credence of the possibility of California not only separating, but being that wild (where every town is like Santa Cruz). As for its transfer to celluloid and CGI, I don't think Ahnold would make as good an Erik Ravensmith as Mel Gibson would (Mel can make it more believable and less silly).

The Warlord series was published by Zebra Books in the mid-80s. Zebra, (in)famous for truly awful crap like the Doomsday Warrior books, had itself a hidden treasure in Warlord.

Though the quality declined a bit as the series progressed, this first book was spectacular. On the surface, the premise is simple: Vietnam vet, ex-Special Forces soldier-turned history teacher Eric Ravensmith rises to lead a band of survivors in a California which has been decimated by a massive earthquake.

Ah, but its all in the details. Exactly HOW California is destroyed and the results thereof, is fascinating to read about - really imaginative. Sure, the science is a bit suspect (or is it?), but that doesn't detract from the entertainment value. The characters are extraordinarily well-developed and engaging; the author is not afraid to delve into the background of minor characters to make them more sympathetic to us when they meet their inevitable end.

Ravensmith's nemesis, the psychotic Colonel Fallows, is a great, menacing villain, as is his henchman Cruz.

Something interesting I noticed: there is a character named Grimme who happens to be a physics graduate student working as a janitor at the university where Ravensmith's band makes it headquarters... wonder if Affleck/Damon read this book before writing 'Good Will Hunting'? :) Just a thought...

Great book overall, highly recommended. Its too bad Zebra published it; otherwise it might have the recognition it deserves. I can only hope that a more worthy publisher attains the rights.

First read the series back in high school (class of 86) and could not put it down. Rather comical that I started passing the series around and people were getting upset when the person with the following book was not reading fast enough. Although the series was located in the "Men's Adventure" section of B. Dalton, the series was read by a number of ladies. Still reread the series every so often to liven up a cold, dreary, winter day. The series will grab you within the first few pages and not let go until the end...leaving you to want more.

This 1st volume in the 6-book series was almost made into hollywood gold back in the mid-eighties by none other than Arnold himself. Though it obviously did not happen, this would have been a major miss-cast because the man in the book did not resemble Arnold at all and was his own unique character.
The WARLORD is a great novel of a man with a sordid past whom is forced thru circumstance to revert back to his training both as a special forces soldier and his background in growing up with the indians and learning to survive. This unique individual named Eric Ravensmith and his family are plunged into a world gone mad when earthquake tremors turn California into an island unto itself, and to make things worse, its protected by a bubble of toxic waste that no one can leave or enter, thus leaving anarchy to rule. Ravensmith reverts back to his training in both areas of his expertise to save both his family and the fate of the state of California against his ruthless past in the form of his former commander in the military back in his vietnam days. The action and adventure soar in this too-short-lived series. A must read for all, I am lucky to still have them all.

Love the series...why did it stop at six? Want more.

Very well written. I enjoyed this book and its series. However I can not find any more books after the sixth. If anyone knows of more books please let me know. If you like a good adventure read this book is for you...but the series leaves you hanging unfinished at book number six.

A little mystery, great friendships, and steamy romance...
317 Beulah Street intrigued me on the first page and it never let me go. Nick Proffit, a world renowned photographer is famous everywhere except in his own hometown in Georgia. Back home, his sister-in-law Jenna has taken a baffling fall from grace. Together they try to restore Jenna's late husband's reputation. It isn't without risks...The story unfolded, drawing me deeper and deeper into the characters. I mean it! I couldn't put it down and I didn't want it to end! And the friendship between Jenna, Suzanne, Faith and Twyla Mae lifted this book to a level few books achieve. I can't wait for Sandra Steffen's next book...

I couldn't get enough of these characters!

The relationships between Nick and Jenna, and Suzanne and her accountant--and the friendship between Jenna, Suzanne, Faith and Twyla Mae grabbed on the first page. The laughter in this story, the heartstrings it tugged, the hint of mystery and the surprises kept me reading when I should have been sleeping. I didn't want this story to end!

It takes two years for the news of his brother Craig's death to catch up to photographer Nick Proffit and another month to regain his health from a debilitating jungle virus before he finally makes it back to the one place he never wanted to be again - Harmony Hills, Georgia. Nick was the town's sexy bad-boy when he left home sixteen years ago; Craig was the golden boy and his father's favorite, but Craig was still a very good big brother to Nick. Nick only had one close friend growing up and that was Jenna; and then Jenna married Craig and they should have lived happily ever after.

Jenna Profit and her two young sons have not had an easy life since Craig died and the ensuing scandal. Craig's father died a month later after rewriting his will; he set aside a portion for his grandsons' educations and gave the rest of his money and property to charity. Jenna has been shunned by the "good" people of Harmony Hills, and supplements her teaching salary by taking in roomers in the big, old rundown mansion she and Craig had bought before his death. Jenna and her tenants all have one thing in common - heartbreak and betrayal. Having Nick staying with her and her ladies can only add more fodder for the gossips to feed on, but it feels so right having him in her life again.

317 Beulah Street is a rich and emotional story, which captivates the reader from page one. Nick is a troubled, tortured hero who only wants to make everything right for the only woman he has ever loved, Jenna. Jenna, however, is strong enough to overcome almost everything except Nick's doubts about his own brother's honesty. There is never any doubt to anyone that these two people have a future together. Sandra Steffen has created exemplary secondary characters giving each of them importance in this fantastic story. This is an easy reading, reader-pleasing romance as steamy and sultry as a Georgia summer.

An interesting character study and contemporary

As he lay in an El Salvador hospital in critical condition, photographer Nick Proffit receives the letter that informs him his brother Craig died. The letter from his sister-in-law Jenna traveled around the world taking two years to catch up to Nick. He plans to come home to learn what happened to his beloved sibling.

Nick arrives in Harmony Hills, Georgia to learn how far his brother's widow and his preadolescent boys have fallen by their current address. He is shocked to also find out Jenna rents rooms to two borders needing a place to start fresh. Nick revises his charter as he must know why his brother's family have been ostracized and where did his now deceased father's wealth go, a task made easier because he is falling in love with Craig's widow and two sons.

This is an interesting character study and contemporary romance that focuses on the key cast members' actions to the death of a loved one. The heroine keeps on moving in spite of the condemnation of the community because she knows she must provide a nurturing environment for her two children. Nick is more enigmatic because he never seemed concerned with life back home even when he didn't receive letters from Craig, but that still doesn't lessen his need to know now. Fans of small town dramas will enjoy a visit to 317 BEULAH STREET.
