Make No Mistake: "Oops, Pig!" is a winner!Review Date: 2000-10-11
Pleasing artwork and plenty of farm animals make for fun reading and diversions into sound effects from mom, dad, and even our child! My only regret is that the story could've been a few pages longer, and the opening "Quack-a-doodle-doo" by the duck could be confusing to younger children who are learning to distinguish animals.

A story of friends who worked quietly behind the sceneReview Date: 2003-10-16
Vogel's skill as a storyteller is evident as she recalls how she and her friends worked in small ways to protect or shelter those pursued by the Nazi SS. Their efforts, seemingly small, saved lives. The personalities come to life in glimpses of the risks they take and the small victories they share. Some survived, some did not. But the difference they made is significant.

Good Introduction to Bighorn Sheep - Beautiful PhotographyReview Date: 2003-10-06
Bighorn sheep are returning to their native North American habitats. The all-time low of 9,000 bighorn sheep in 1960 has been replaced today by an impressive number of 70,000 sheep. Excessive hunting was partly responsible for their decline, but the primary cause had been disease from domestic sheep. Hunting today is well managed; disease can still completely eliminate a small herd.
Mountain Monarchs: Bighorn Sheep is an attractive, soft cover, glossy publication by NorthWord Wildlife Series. Beautiful photography is found on nearly every page.
The author, Bert Gildart, targets a general audience that shares his enthusiasm for native wildlife. At some points I found his explanations, like the food pyramid, to be too basic. Overall his style remains interesting, especially his personal observations of sheep behavior. He is careful to attribute his facts to specific wildlife biologists and naturalists.
Mountain Monarchs: Bighorn Sheep is a good introduction to a remarkable animal. I particularly liked the section on the adaptation of the bighorn sheep to its harsh environment and the descriptions of the incredible battles between males for dominance. I now understand more about interpreting the shape and detailed appearance of the magnificently curved horns of the bighorn sheep. The appendix contains an updated population census for the varieties of wild sheep by state and province.

Good....but not until you read it twiceReview Date: 2005-05-29
I got it from a random secondhand book sale and as the other books I had bought were by Lavyrle Spencer and James Herriot,I kept it for the last read.
But when I started reading it,I was sort of shocked since it was such a refreshing new style....I finished it in a day and couldn't wait to read it again...so I started off the next day.
I love this book...the characters a re so believable and you ache along with Gracelyn when she is hurting and you can actually see and "breathe" in the Montana air.
It is a lovely book...but it takes atleast two read to see its beauty.

But Kendra doesn't even know how she got selected. Okay, maybe she does, but it was only a mistake. She didn't mean to write a long letter about her horrible life and the bad way her parents treat her. She didn't mean to make them sound like they were crazy and then send it in to the show. She didn't mean to make her letter sound so dramatic, but that's the only thing reality shows thrive on--DRAMA. Of course her parents wouldn't go for it, right?
Kendra should already know to expect the unexpected, because now Kendra is on her way to Monterey, California, to switch lives with Maya Mulligan, who is tired of her spirit-loving, animal-saving, hippie parents. Now Kendra's new world is just too much to handle, living with Max and Mona, her new parents, a stealing ferret, and five kids. It's not exactly what she's used to.
To make matters worse, she meets Mitch Mulligan, the oldest son in the Mulligan family. The very hot guy that Kendra now has to live with, the guy that wants nothing to do with the show, since he thinks it is ridiculous, which also drags Kendra along with it. It's bad enough that Judy Greenberg, the crazy producer that talks in third person, is always tailing Kendra, making sure she gets all the problems that Kendra has to face on camera, and sometimes even making problems when there aren't any.
But there is one good thing that comes out of this reality show. His name is Maurice and he is an otter. He's not just any ordinary otter, either--he is the only thing that actually keeps Kendra sane and maybe even changes her life.
Yvonne Collins and Sandy Rideout, best known for their VIVIEN LEIGH REID series, takes us into the world of celebrities, the one where it's all reality and not just some script. THE BLACK SHEEP is not only funny but also heartwarming. The characters are as charming as the ones you see on actual reality shows, and Kendra Bishop is that one person that everyone loves, roots for, and hopes to see succeed. After reading THE BLACK SHEEP, it just makes me wonder if reality TV is really that spontaneous and if the cameras are actually that annoying.

Can't go wrong with Carola Dunn regencies.Review Date: 2004-08-19
She returns to England looking to make a marriage but has a great deal of past which needs to be swept under the carpet.
It's been a LOOOONG time since I read this book, but as I remember, her mother was an opera singer (?) and notorious.
What I DO remember is that it is written with a great deal of verve and wit, making it an enjoyable jewel of a book.
Highly recommended.

Thrilling page turner ;o)Review Date: 2000-11-11
My three year old just loves the Boo and Baa stories and will actually sit still to lisen to them (quite a miracle, I assure you) so I highly recommend this book for those with energetic toddlers if you are trying to teach them to appreciate a good story.
