Richly illustrated, imaginative retelling of the classic Aesop fable of perseverance, set in the Sonoran Desert. The fun and lovely pictures are full of actual native flora and fauna.

It's a must-read for any desert-dwelling child, or to supplement study on desert habitats, or for that child who needs a bit of encouragement to keep on keepin' on.

Susan Lowell has adapted the classtic story of the Tortoise and the Hare perfectly for desert readers. As a kindergarten teacher in Arizona, I love reading this story to my students because it is relevant for them. They love listening to it!

Is your little one worried about a new situation? Making a transition?
Entering a new school or grade?

Meet Tucker.

Learn how Tucker manges to have a 4 carrot school day. Of course he gets some extra help from Mama and baby sister. I love this book. I love Susan's art work and get lost in all her down home details.

My daugther enters kindergarten in less than a week. We've been reading Tucker all summer long.

this is a fantastic story for any little one a bit nervous about heading off to school (or away from mommy & daddy for the first time). tucker the rabbit goes off to school, leaving his stuffed dog and baby sister, tulip, behind. while at school, he embarrasses himself by dropping bottles of paint and continuing to sing when everyone else has stopped. his teacher, miss blossom, takes care of him along the way, and tucker manages to make some new friends. in the end, he has a "4-carrot" day and can't wait to go back to school the next day.

we LOVE this book (and not just because our son is named tucker!)--the scenarios are quite real for little people and the message is warm and fuzzy. the pictures are adorable as well.

highly recommended!!

A Treasure Beagle Lovers Have Been Hunting For!

Robert L. Mason brings his love for his father, the heartland and beagling to life in this delightful book. He intwines these themes adeptly. This book is a real treasure for people who hunt with beagles or for the pet owner. As the owner of a beagle, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It will certainly brighten up one's day. Beagles are truly delightful pets.

A great book about super dogs, by an extraordinary man.

I have never met Robert Mason, but I can say that for his ability to bring to better awareness some of the feeling of his father's generation - he should be considered a national treasure. This book is not only about that most companionable of man's best friends - the Beagle - it is about life in rural America, friendships, and taking time for one another. This book celebrates a dog's place in our lives, and would help anyone appreciate the role of small game hunting in the life of rural America. Mason goes beyond this, however, and brings us full circle to an understanding of love for the land and its creatures - and how in partnership with one's Beagle - all of us can continue in his father's tradition.

Fun NEW Stories

These stories were a departure from the normal Uncle Remus/Brer Rabbit stories published by Disney. These were completely new stories created by Disney featuring the Brer characters as well as a few new characters, which made this book unique. Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox are basically competing for the attention of Molly Rabbit throughout the book. Copies of this book are not very easy to find, but if you come across a copy, it would make a fun addition to your Disney library.

My youngest daughter received this book from her grandfather when she was a very young child. During a long winter battling colds, I found myself reading these stories aloud to her. Lo and behold, both of us were really getting into the dialect and wild humor of the stories. Many of the older editions of these stories were murky and top-heavy with unwieldy dialogue. This version is easier to read and understand by contemporary children. The illustrations are whimsical and the stories move at a rapid pace. I have used this book as an elementary school teacher (grades 3-5) for over 10 years. The kids love for me to read to them and enjoy the stories year after year. I highly reccommend this book for parents and teachers.

My son loves Valentines and we have gotten totally off track with holidays so we are reading the books as we get to them. This picture book is about 2 "kids" bringing Valentine joy to their neighbors. I thought it was a sweet book and my 8-year-old son loves bunnies. Recommended for preschool - 2nd grade.

I purchased this book for our library because most of the books describing Valentine's Day are boring, outdated and worn. This fresh perspective includes facts, plus gives you ideas on how to make your own valentines. To me, it is "killing two birds with one stone," but really three birds when you think how much you have enjoyed the story and illustrations!

I bought this for my daughter (age 2) because she loves the Lisa McCue bunny stories. This is such a beautiful and classic story. Lisa's illustrations are so real and details - you want to pick up the bunnies from the book and just hug them (as my daughter pretends to do). And since it is a board book - even better! Highly Recommended!

The story is a classic and an easy to understand version for the younger child coupled with the wonderful illustrations, it will easily become a must read for you and your child!

Cool Little Book!

Review Date: 2008-02-04
This is a great book for any Wallace and Gromit fan who has seen the "Were-rabbit" movie. The way this book was put together would make it a great reader for children in grades 3 or 4. One half of the book is Gromit's point of view of what happened through the movie. The other half of the book is Philip's side of the story. Book includes some black and white pictures throughout which would keep a child interested in the story. All in all well worth the money and a fun little addition to any Wallace and Gromit fan's collection. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I love the Wallace and Gromit shorts and movie, and this book really made a fun read for me, an adult. The author uses scenes from the movie, "Wallace and Gromit: the Curse of the Wererabbit" to write the diaries, and I was laughing through the whole book. Gromit is contemplative and witty while Phillip is focused more on the physical, thinking about which person to bite next. The book reads fast, as it is a paperback with only 80 pages.

A novel of two opposites struggling to get along

Review Date: 2005-01-06
Welsh Rabbit is a novel of two opposites struggling to get along. A grizzled veteran cop stripped of his sergeant stripes for unauthorized pursuit, struggling to last two more years so he can collect his pension and retire, must train an unusual rookie - a middle-aged, married woman and former psychologist seeking the meaning of life through a career shift. The harsh pressures and sometimes deadly requirements of their mutual job to serve and protect place a strain on their partnership, but when lives hang in they balance there is little leeway or forgiveness for mutual abrasions. A compelling novel of learning polar opposites who must learn to surpass their personal differences.

Excellent . . . a winner

Excellent: Douglas Carstens formerly of Milwaukee has a winner in "Welsh Rabbit" (Carstens Press, $12.95). When longtime Milwaukee police officer John "Mad Dog" Maddocks finds himself saddled with a middle-age rookie partner-Betty "Boop" Moreland-the two soon find the answers to the question: can polar opposites learn to get along and even become friends?

A standoff with a suspect spirals into deadly force and the traumatic outcome leaves both officers' lives utterly changed. It's a story of an unlikely friendship coping with adversity.

It's rich with Milwaukee history and scenery. The characters are so real you'll want to reach out and touch them. It'll also make you appreciate the friends you have. For more information, see www.dougcarstens.com.

I have been searching all over for this book!! We had this book as kids, but my mother got rid of it during one of our many moves. I was sooo excited to find it that I got 3 copies (one for me and one for each of my sisters) I love the fact that this baby bunny wants to grow up to be a daddy. There aren't too many books these days that give kids good role models. Buy this book!! The artwork alone is worth it!

Richard is not the only notable Scarry!

This little golden book is a golden classic! The artwork was eyecandy to me as a child and I can't wait to introduce it to my 20 month old son! All through the book, bunny's family speculates as to what he will be when he grows up - will he be a fireman? a circus clown? a lion tamer? Only baby bunny knows and his choice is a heartwarmer. This is a particularly good one for daddy's and their little boys as bunny's true wish is to be a good daddy when he grows up. It's fun to give each family member a voice and it's hard not to get choked up at the end. I highly recommend this book for little ones from one to five!
