I began collecting the Felix books about seven years ago. I was a new teacher and just fell in love with this cuddly rabbit.
His travels were not only educational, but I found that my students were really getting involved with him. He became personal.
They would write letters to him as he wound his way around the world. My collection has stimulated the imagination of many,
many children of all ages. I am always checking to see whem Annette Langen and Constanza Droop will come out with a new
Felix book. Their Activity book is also wonderful. This latest story, "Felix Joins the Circus" is, I believe, the best
one yet! It is innovative and chucked full of exciting adventures. I also particularily liked the careful attention to
cultural sensitivities. The special present that is included is absolutely a "10"! I have time and again recommended
this series for parents to purchase, having never found a child or adult that was not thoroughly enthralled with Sophie's
friend. I would also encourage all readers to try their own hand at writing an innovation on these books. You can create
your own wiley character to travel and send letters back to his owner. I have one student who has created "Seymour, the
Snake". This series would make an excellent Christmas gift or Birthday present. Get all of the available books for
a friend, or just for yourself!

A gem for a third grade teacher!

This book is perfect for the third grade curriculum that I teach. We are supposed to cover multicultural lessons as stated
by the standards. This book lends itself beautifully for this. After purchasing a "Felix" type rabbit for our mascot, I used
the book to travel to different countries, conveniently the ones that Felix also visited. By using the activity book that
can also be purchased, each child had a world map and we placed stickers as we visited each land that Felix had visited,
and also completed activities, and minor research about each country. Rome, one of the places visited was a great introduction
to the Olympics that will be happening in Australia. The visit to the land of knights and ladies was perfect for our introduction
into fairy tales.(Folk Literature-3rd grade standard)Finally, a visit to an Indian settlement. The Plains Indians is also
part of our social studies curriculum. Not only does this book give us a brief insight into many cultures, the students love
having a class mascot and can't wait to see what area we will get a peek into next.
My little son loved it so much!

Sweet little stuffed Felix escaped during a museums visit from Sophie, his fellow from baby times. He started a journey into
the past, sending Sophie letters from every station. You can pull out the letters from their envelopes and read about Felix
adventures in History. He wondered about the knights in mediveal castles, joined the vikings and send a construction plan
from their drageon ships home to Sophie. He met the Red Indians and wrote about the old culture technics developed in the
far east. The next letter arrives from greece, explaining the origin of alympiad and the myths. Before travelling home he
joined our anchestors in stony times to report their simple life style. My little son especially loved reading about the
knights and the vikings. He shared Sophies fear for Felix and her happiness when he retured home, finally. This book is wunderfully
written and beaturfully painted. It inspired us to talk and learn about history!

He loves to look at the clear pictures and slide the apples back and forth. He has spent a few days carrying the book everywhere.
I was disapointed that there wasn't anything to touch or smell, but Aedon doesn't mind. One great bonus, he has almost destroyed
the original "Pat the Bunny", but this one has taken tons of teething abuse and still looks great.

The simple storyline, the red apples in the illustrations and the red plastic apples on the counting rod make this book the
perfect introduction to number concepts. The curve of the number rod helps the apples slide easily, yet stay in place. By
limiting the number concepts to sets up to five, interest remains high and avoids the ennui that occurs from overload of information.
Most books develop language skills, so it is a thrill to have such an appealing book to teach numbers.

I have the English-Vietnamese version and was thrilled to discover it at a used book sale. I fell in love with the simple
story of a bunny who was different, yet turned out to be very accepted by his peers. The illustrations are simple and superb.
If you have bilingual children, I highly recommend this book... even if not... I'm sure the simple English version is great
as well. Floppy is a great teacher for kids.

This book is one that my mother use to read to me when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Recently I chose to use this book in
my Foundations of Exceptional Lives college class for a bibliothereapy report. This book displays Flop Ear as a rabbit who
is different from all others and gets teased and picked on as a result of his uniqueness. In the end, the other rabbits see
him as a rabbit and not just for his differences. This book is a good one to beginning teaching your children the important
principle that even though other children may look and appear to be different from them, they should still show acceptance
to the other child. If you look real carefully, you will see that we all have differences.

Flora's Surprise! is a simple and charming full-color picturebook written and illustrated by Debi Gliori. Flora the rabbit
and her family are all busy planting different things - but while the other rabbits plant seeds, Flora plants a brick and
waits and waits for it to grow into a house. A twist ending complements this upbeat and confidently recommended picturebook
story.

This engaging picture book for preschool-grade K is one of Gliori's best. Flora rabbit and her older siblings go to work in
the garden. While the siblings plant seeds for flowers and vegetables, Flora plants a brick in a flowerpot which she claims
will blossom into a house, despite warnings to the contrary. When spring comes, the garden is all in bloom, and it turns out
that Flora was right too - her flowerpot has a bird in a nest living on it! Kids will enjoy the gentle humor of this tale,
and will identify with Flora having to stick up for herself when her elders dismiss her ideas. The garden pictures are warm
and colorful too.

This is an excellent story of escape from slavery using the Underground Railroad. It explains the song and its symbolism.
It also explains the fears of families during slavery -- they might be sold and separated from one another. The accompanying
CD or Cassette, narrated by Morgan Freeman with music by Taj Mahal, makes this book/CD unforgettable. Kids will be spellbound.

I remember when i was about 7 my mom brought me home this book , i flipped throught the pages and loved the zany, colorful
illustrations, i read it over and over and listened to the tape every night when i went to bed until the tape wore out.even
though i am older now, i am looking foreward to reading this book again and keeping it for when i may have kids of my own.
I think that this is a great book for any little kid to have and listen to, or even big kids (me), the story takes you through
a strange and hillarious world, that is acompanied by ammusing illustrations. it is a great book for kids to read and listen

This is not a fuzzy-wuzzy comic book. It's not something to give your kids when they're done with their latest issue of Donald
Duck Goes To Happyland.
This is hardcore, down-and-dirty, mess-with-your-head weirdness.
And we can all thank Hartzell he took the effort to make it for us.
Andy's a talented guy; there's no escaping that. His earlier works, from the "Edna" series to his weighty "Monday," demonstrated his talent in both storytelling and pure art. His capability to lambaste the reader with emotion, using only line drawings, is remarkable.
And, like "Monday," "FBF" deals with weighty subjects...and doesn't use words.
Okay, for most writers, this would be a brutal undertaking-- punishment of the worst sort. "You want me to deal with WHAT? Without using any WORDS???"
But Hartzell can not only do it, he does it with a stark simplicity that probably conducts fear, horror, hatred, joy, and happiness better than prose can do...or has done.
FBF deals with The Other in a society; the easiest analogies are right there in front of you, barely hidden by the symbolism...but I think there are deeper, more universal feelings there, too. Can a character with a different agenda from those in a shared society, a character with an affinity for the taboo, subliminate its own needs for the sake of fitting in? And how far does that carry? And what else is there?
Hartzell goes at these questions with an ink pen that could be a metaphorical sledgehammer.
Let him hit you in the forehead. It's worth it.

Funny, Dust and Honey & the Giant Carrot is an incredible book that shows that money can't buy happiness and that sometimes
the simple things in life are more important than the extravagant. My two children love looking at the pictures while I read
to them. The book is beautifully illustrated and I recommend it to any parent.

We have all heard the saying, "Money can't buy happiness". But nowhere is that adage more vividly portrayed, in such an amusing
and fun-filled way, than in Funny, Dust and Honey & the Giant Carrot. You will love the characters, you will delight in the
wonderful illustrations, and your child will experience a delightful journey while at the same time learn that the mindless
pursuit of material possessions is no guarantee for personal satisfaction. Thanks to this book, my son and daughter now see
the amusement (and insanity) of yearning for the latest X-box, the designer t-shirt, and the $100+ tennis shoes.
Thank you, Funny, Dust & Honey... may your message reach a materialistic world!
