I didn't really use this book that much in my class but when we did it was ok. It has a lot of famous artwork and people in there so its an extremely good way to catch up on what most artists talk about and stuff. It also teaches you different styles of art, mediums, history, and terminology. It's a decent book.

I just puchased the latest edition of Artforms which includes the CD-ROM with interactive explanations on elements of art. Artforms is a great introduction to art and art history for those who have always wanted to understand how to look at art and interpret it for themselves. Over half the book is dedicated to elements and principles of art and craftsmanship. I use this book in training my art museum volunteers so that they have a clear understanding of why some works of art have strong visual impact while others do not. I like how the book uses a mix of artwork from various time periods, media and cultures to explain the elements and principles. Far too many art/art history books become a history of painting, and Artforms represents a variety of art forms other than 2D. The history portion of the book is a gloss of art history, but good enough for someone just delving into art. The book is easy to read, relatively jargon-free and has a nice glossary at the end. I wish the CD had more information on it that you could use in a classroom setting, projecting it on an overhead, but that is my instructor point of view. For someone studying at home it is quite nice. To sum up, the book is so good I now own two editions and will continue to recommend it to people who want to understand how to look at art.

I purhased this book as a requirement for an art history and appreciation class as a required text. I think the book although a bit pricey is an excellent text book for the class. Additionally if you just wanted to get a good foundation for art history and appreciation I think this book would provide that as well.

My favorite paper doll is Baby Bunny Sticker Paper Doll by Carole Munshi so my mom pasted Baby Bunny Betsy to a yellow board with all of the bunny cloths and framed it in a white frame to hang over my bed. Then she decorated my whole room to match my Baby Bunny Betsy paper doll.I just love it! Now I want to find more Baby Bunny paper dolls by Carole Munshi for my doll house.

I have been playing with paper dolls for over 28 years. This is, without a doubt, the best paper bunny that I have ever seen. It has changed my life. I play with my bunny every day, 365 days a year. I can't get enough. Sometimes, I just sit around on the couch and talk with my bunny for hours. I love him, her, whatever it is! It's great! I highly recommend this bunny!

This is such a good book. Its funny how pooh gets rabbit so frustrated when his singing keeps waking rabbit up in the morning. So, when pooh stops walking past his house in the morning, rabbit realizes he misses the silly old tune, when some unexpected visitors drop in for a visit. Sometimes it seems that the littlest things annoy people. But it sometimes takes a different point of view to get over it and realizes how great it can be. I would recommend this book to kids who have brothers and sister because it teaches them how to deal with sibling rivalry. Especially for ages 4-7.

An excellent First Reader Book!! This story is about Pooh being his merrily self. He takes a walk each morning singing a silly tune, when he wakes up Rabbit. Rabbit gets so mad. Then the one day Pooh decides not to walk by, Rabbit misses his morning encounters with Pooh. This is a very cute story with catchy words. It is also very funny!! My two-year old son laughs histerically everytime we read this book. He loves it and takes it everywhere we go. In the back of the book is a picture and word matching game with objects in the story. There is also a word letter recognition activity. A great educational book with lots of humor and fun!

The Big Brag was the best children's book I have ever read. It was funny because the little old worm was better than the rabbit and the bear. It was funny that the worm saw their back. Like if he saw around the world. Aso that the bear smelled eggs in a tree at a farm and tha the rabbitheard a fly cough on a mountain peak.

The Big Brag is a delightful book for parents to read to their kids. When Seuss preaches and teaches to eaches of us, we smile all the while. And his warnings about self-blow-your-own- hornings message comes through loud and clear. If preachers could teach when they preach like Seuss on the loose, our churches would be packed every Saturday or Sunday.

I picked up this book on a recent trip to Australia to read to my 2.5 year old. He LOVES it. He gets to learn a bit about Australian fauna and flora and gets to learn about the moon waxing and waning. He now TELLS me the story instead of letting me read it. I also picked him up a stuffed bilby which he loves to snuggle while we go over the story. It is simple yet engaging and has beautiful drawings. Now when we look at the moon in the sky my son tells me whether it is smiling or whether it is getting smaller or bigger or half of it has disappeared.

All of Maurice Pledger's books are beautiful, and his Billy Bunny books are no exception to the rule. I'm a mom of 5 who homeschools using a literature based curriculum. Our home is overflowing with books. Pledger's stand out with the best for their beautiful artistry and their ability to educate as they entertain.
My seven year old, artistically creative daughter enjoys them as much as my book-chewing, 1 year old baby girl. My 3 year old son is an action hero in training---always on the go fighting pretend fires or climbing trees---and even he will sit still for Maurice Pledger's wonderous books!
Hooray to Maurice Pledger! We are so glad that we discovered your world!!!

Why aren't these books better known in the US? My sons absolutely love the Bing Books. Dewan knows exactly how to write a book that has the right rhythm and colors to engage even the youngest child. When my younger son was a newborn and ignored most books, he enjoyed Bing. Now that he is a year and a half, he spends hours flipping through them and laughs the whole time - which is the same effect these books had on my older son.

I love the emotions Bing expresses in his books. My daughter has picked up on them as well. From happy to sad and everything in between.
Thank you so much for creating a book and character I can read to my daughter every night without getting bored with!

I wish Bing were as popular in America as Barney is. These books are a hoot and my son just can't get enough of them. I checked all 8 out from the library and had to end up buying them.
Bing is a bunny who interacts with his stuffed animal Flop. The books show Bing learning colors, foods, potty training, etc., all in the course of a day.
Adults will enjoy the '60s vibe of the cars, houses and furniture in the books.
Maybe an animated Bing show in America will make these books as popular as they deserve to be.

Like all the Bing books, this story beautifully captures the exuberance of toddlerdom. Bing and his Zen master, Flop, turn a giant mess of an art project into a lovely, fridge-worthy masterpiece with the application of "goo" and "sparkles." While the house-cleaner in you may cringe at the giant trail of glitter dragged through Bing's home, how can you deny the lovely gesture of Bing's homage to Daddy? Less housework, more art!

BUNNICULA - Harold the dog and Chester the cat think that they're in for a relaxing night by the fireplace, sheltered from the rain pelting the windows outside, when they are most rudely interrupted by the beloved Monroe family (Mom and Dad Monroe, and their two sons, Toby and Pete). Sure, the Monroe's are wonderful people, but everyone knows that when a dog and a cat have finally settled down and gotten comfortable for the night, it is extremely rude to disturb them. Especially when what you're disturbing them with is an unexpected addition to the family in the form of a rabbit with fangs. Who just so happens to have black and white markings that resemble a cape, and who, oddly enough, was found at a Dracula movie. The family soon names the little bunny Bunnicula - combing the words Dracula and bunny to come up with something extremely ridiculous - and give him a home in a cozy cage, where he receives crispy vegetables everyday. However, Chester knows that there is something very peculiar about this particular rabbit. Not only is he nocturnal, spending each and every daylight hour fast asleep, and waking only once the moon is in the sky; but ever since Bunnicula arrived, all of the vegetables in the house - even the ones in the refrigerator - have begun turning white, the victim of having had their juices sucked out of them, much like the way Dracula sucks the blood out of his victims. Of course, Chester is the only one who seems to notice these occurrences, for not only is he well-read, he's taken on the personality of Sherlock Holmes, and is determined to get to the bottom of this mystery, even if it kills him, or lands him in the doghouse. 5 stars.
HOWLIDAY INN - Pete and Toby Monroe, along with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, are going on vacation, and, thanks to Harold's tendency to get carsick, they have decided to leave both him, and Chester at Chateau Bow-Wow, a supposed four-star hotel for dogs and cats. It seems like a boring place to Harold and Chester, until the first night, when they are trying to get some sleep, and they hear a horrendous howling, causing Chester to rename Chateau Bow-Wow, Howliday Inn. Chester becomes convinced almost instantly that there are werewolves among them at the hotel, and begins investigating. But pretty soon Harold and Chester have even more to investigate, because animals begin disappearing, and there are rumors of murder spreading around. Now it's up to Chester and Harold to solve the case, before their check-out time from Howliday Inn comes sooner than expected. 5 stars.
THE CELERY STALKS AT MIDNIGHT - Harold thought that all of Chester's fears and concerns regarding Bunnicula and the fact that he was a vampire ended long ago, when he was placed on a liquid diet of vegetable juice. But, when Bunnicula disappears from his cage, and Chester begins locating various pieces of vegetables that have been drained of their juices, and have turned completely white, he puts on his detective hat once more, and begins investigating the mysterious occurrences. Of course, this time there are some differences involving his investigation. One, he has lost all track of Bunnicula, and can't find him anywhere, no matter how hard he looks. And, even worse, the Monroes seem to be oblivious to the fact that the freaky-deaky rabbit has disappeared from his cage, and won't listen to Chester's cries of concern for the MIA bunny; and two, this time, Chester doesn't have just Harold as his sidekick in his quest for justice, he also has Howie, the Monroes new dachshund puppy who happens to have a howl that could wake the dead, and a wish to be Chester's very own son. While Howie could easily get on Chester's nerves, he's taking the little guys affections in stride, and using them in an attempt to get Howie to side with him and his thoughts on little Bunnicula, as opposed to following the lead of the disbelieving Harold, who wants nothing more than to think the best of the little guy. As Chester, Harold, and Howie begin their search, they find themselves in the throes of a town filled with white vegetables. White vegetables that they are staking with toothpicks, to prevent them from coming to life and following Bunnicula's vegetable-draining ways. However, as the three siblings cavort and romp through various backyards and homes to locate Bunnicula, they encounter an array of animals who are interested in one thing: taking them down. 5 stars.
Chester and Harold won me over when I discovered HOWLIDAY INN a few years ago. So when I learned about the release of BUNNICULA-IN-A-BOX, I knew that I had to purchase the set - now I'm glad that I did. While HOWLIDAY INN featured Harold and Chester, Bunnicula wasn't mentioned, so it was an interesting to have the opportunity to discover more about his character - just in time to read THE CELERY STALKS AT MIDNIGHT. Each installment in this three-book set introduces readers to new animals, from Bunnicula the vampire bunny, to Howie - a howling dachshund - to the lovable Harold and Chester, which make it absolutely impossible for readers to resist. James Howe proves his writing skills with this series, and gives readers the opportunity to discover his wit and charm - along with his slightly neurotic characters - making him a household name, and a force to be reckoned with in the world of children's literature. Reluctant readers will grapple to get ahold of these delightful books, and find themselves unable to put them down until the last page is turned. Hold on to your seats - the Monroe pets are about to take you on a bumpy ride!

YES! I loved Bunnicula as a kid! I read them over and over in grade school. It's good to read them again, and know that they're still just as good now.
BUNNICULA by Deborah & James Howe
Harold is the family dog, as well as the "author" of the stories. He lives in a comfortable home with Mr. and Mrs. Monroe, their two sons, and Chester the cat. One night, the Monroe family goes to the movies, and brings back a little surprise. It's a rabbit that one of the Monroe boys found on his seat. Well, actually, he nearly sat on it. After much debate they decide to name him Bunnicula, since the movie they were seeing was Dracula. Howard finds him slightly boring; all he does is sleep. Chester, however, has a bad feeling about the little bunny. Especially once Chester realizes that Bunnicula is only awake during the day, and it appears that he may have fangs. When weird things start happening to the vegetables, Chester decides to take action.
HOWLIDAY INN by James Howe
When the Monroe's go on vacation, Harold and Chester are sent to board at Chateau Bow Wow. The other animals are more than a little odd, and the staff is even weirder. The first night they are kept awake by a strange howling noise. Chester is convinced that it's werewolves, and that something very bad is happening. Harold brushes it off as Chester being paranoid as usual. Until animals start disappearing, and Chester is one of them. Now Harold has to figure out what's going on all by himself. Chester's life may depend on it.
THE CELERY STALKS AT MIDNIGHT by James Howe
Back at home with the Monroe's, Harold, Chester, Bunnicula, and Howie, the family's newest addition, are settling back into life as usual. But odd things are happening to the vegetables again. When Bunnicula goes missing, the other animals know they have to take action. Harold wants to save Bunnicula from whatever fate may await him in the outside world. Chester wants to save the vegetables from being sucked dry, and has visions of a world full of zombie vegetables. Howie, well, he's along for the adventure, just like us.
Did I mention already how much I love these books?! I'm so happy they've been re-released, in a set no less, so that a new generation of kids can discover them. Apparently there are four more books in the series, and four in a BUNNICULA AND FRIENDS series. I can't wait to get a look at them!

i bought this book back when my daughter was very young (1982). we both loved it and read it many many times. it teaches children not to descriminate against others, be it the way they talk, or the color of their skin. a very important valuable lesson. i dont know what happened to that first copy we had, but when my first grand child was born, i decided he needed this book. and i looked high and low for it and finally found it at amazon.com. if you have small or older children or grandchildren, help them out by getting them a copy of this book, and sit down for some quiet time and read this book to them.

She's in high school now, my daughter that is, but this was one of her favorites, and one of mine to this day. My little one would tremble in delightful fear on my back, begging me to read it over and over again....even though she'd be so afraid every time. It really struck home. Can I pass on a new one - another delightful book - I've found for my grandkids (no...not this daughter, another)? Bob Tales by Bob Morgan....new bedtime stories by a grandpa in FL.. he must have read Serendipity books too! Thanks for letting me share my memories!

Buttermilk Bear deals with racism, and how someone who's different may not be bad. Great pictures and a wonderful story.
