Final book in the Church Mice series

The Church Mice and Sampson (the Church Cat) hitch a ride with the Vicar when he heads off for a seaside holiday. Of course this goes horribly wrong, and they find themselves stranded. (Interestingly, the holiday is set in Graham Oakley's home town of Lyme Regis, and the shops and seafront are real.)

As usual, this book is full of amazingly detailed pictures, and has a wickedly fun story. It's not the best of the Church Mice books, but I wouldn't have missed it.

Graham Oakley said in a press interview that this would probably be the last Church Mouse book he would write, but that his next project is to bring out an edition of Beauty and the Beast illustrated with Pre-Raphaelite-style paintings.

The final Church Mice book?

As usual, the story is full of wry English humour and wonderfully detailed pictures.

Sadly, this could be the last of the church mice series as Mr Oakley has said he's thinking of letting them retire, but it's a good innings for mice that first appeared in print in 1972.

Jean Ekman Adams bounces into another amazing book

Jean Ekman Adams' whimsical drawings and humorous writing continue in this wonderful story of the newest adventures of my favorite pig and his charming sidekick, Smoky. You will laugh out loud at this unlikely pair's latest adventures and the newest characters to this wonderful series. As always, the illustrations are filled with hilarious detail that will delight you each time you pick up the book and the story further defines and solidifies the unique and wonderful friendship Clarence and Smoky share. The newest cast of characters, Fern and the duck doctor, fit right into this quirky mix of personalities with Fern's outrageous cooking concoctions of egglant rollups, spinach tasties, and carrot blobs. You'll find yourself touched by the special friendship shared between the characters, laughing at their humor, and smiling at their views of the city. I am eager to see where Clarence and Smokey will land next!

Clarence and the Purple Horse are bouncy & back!

These delightful characters are back with their continued charm and endearing friendship. Clarence brings Smoky to his neighborhood in the big city and he is anxious to show Smoky everything that is important in his life. Through these events, Smoky quietly becomes homesick for the open range but does not want to hurt Clarence's feelings. The solution will make you smile, shed a tear or two but in the end you will feel as "bouncy" as Clarence and Smoky. Author/illustrator, Jean Ekman Adams continues to produce books for children that teach gentle lessons of friendship and caring for one another. She and her characters are a gem.

Kids will love the unique pictures. It is such a fun way to teach colors and how to mix them and make other colors. The last page of the book is adorable! My kids are older now, but I pick up Monique Felix's books when ever I can.

My friend got this book from a book club and showed it to me. I absolutely love it!!! We have a son named Owen and the books reminds me a lot of him. We plan on getting an extra copy to give to him when he is older. The story is such a touching story for a father and son! Love it!

(This review first appeared in the "Ephrata (Pa.) Review").

In this endearing story, Owen, a young pig, inadvertently sets off a competition of sorts, with him and his father coming up with inventive ways to express their love for one another.

"Daddy," said Owen, "I love you more than chocolate milk!"

Well, Daddy loves Owen "more than TWO pancakes with bananas on top!"

And on it goes to bedtime.

Due to the illustrations' smooth, almost slick, texture, they appear to be airbrushed; perhaps they were painted with a computer program. In any case, they energetically showcase a loving, playful and happy father and son.

A tale of Tattletales is a great tool to use with children in play therapy and who need help learning when it is okay to tell and when it is just squealing. Teachers can use this book to cut down on the day to day squealing in the classroom and parents can use it to stop the sibling-she did it-he did it!

This is such a great book! My 12 month old grabs this book out of the stack everytime. He really likes to open the flaps and loves the googley eyed animals. I really want to get him that rest of the Eye Spy series.

Fabulous fun for little ones!

My twin girls have been enjoying the Eye Spy flap books since they were 7 months old -- and at 13 months, they still are among their favorites. This particular book has very colorful, lively illustrations, good rhymes, and the flaps are large enough that the girls can easily pull them by themselves -- and they're sturdy enough to withstand lots of play! They love to read them over and over again, pulling the flaps, watching the eyes move, and putting their fingers through the holes. I've given this book to lots of their little friends, with similar results.

Fluffy and the Firefighters is a charming book of Fluffy the guinea pig who wakes up at school during a visit from the local firemen. When Fluffy first sees the firemen, he is scared, but this book takes you along Fluffy's journey where he learns who firemen are, what they do and it teaches your child not to be afraid of a fireman when he has all of his equipment on. This is a delightful story that is very informative and could help save your child's life in the event of a fire.

This book prompted us to have a fire drill in our house as well as have discussion on what to do if a fireman comes in to save you; that even though he may look scary with his mask and firesuit on, this equipment protects the fireman so that he can help you.

Our child learned alot from Fluffy and the Firefighters and he loves reading it by himself as well.

I'm buying one for a friend who is a fireman with a small child so that she can see in a humorous way that Daddy is not really so scary, but a hero.

Great read!!
