If your child loves Maisy and going to the fair, this one is a keeper! My two-year old loves the part when Tallulah yells "Yoo Hoo!" from the top of the ferris wheel.

If you are the parent of a young child, you probably know who Maisy is. She's a mouse with a duck, a squirrel, an elephant, and a crocodile for friends. Whty the crocodile isn't trying to eat the others is beyond me, but that's life in Maisy's workd.

Both of my daughters love the Maisy books, and this is a particular favorite. The books are short and easy to read and have a certain appeal that I just haven't quite figured out yet. The stories are never obnoxiously simplistic, like so many other books for small children.

In this book, Maisy visits (surprise!) the fair. She visits various rides and finishes up with some cotton candy. Okay, so its not long on plot, but two-to-three year olds love it.

Another fantastic Maisy book

We love the Maisy books, videos. This book is great because it's big and the illustrations are equally grand. The concept was a little hard to understand from the pictures though - that she is dreaming - so silly things are pictured. Panda and Maisy are mermaids, a teapot and teacup have legs, a pencil is a butterfly, etc. My son was a little perplexed at first, and then just laughed. I give it a 4 because I'm not sure he understood the absurdist images are dreams.

Can't go wrong with Maisy

I can't recommend Lucy Cousins enough. Maisy is wonderful. I have a 4 year old and 2 year old who were both introduced to Maisy around 1. They both to this day love Maisy and her friends. Maisy's Rainbow Dream is great. I also highly recommend Maisy Big, Maisy Small.

Peace and Enjoy

The illustrations are so cute painted by pastels and surrounded with think black lines. The book uses all the colors of the rainbow throughout the different paintings, but introduces one color of the rainbow at a time. The book teaches a wonderful concept about colors of the rainbow, yet it also introduces names of objects and things like "clock", "fish", and "bee" while exploring the dream of cute little Maisy.
The plot is "simple, clearly developed, and brief" which makes it easy to read and fun at the same time.

If you're an aviation, history or WWII buff, you'll like this book. The timeline is historically correct and you'll learn about the Russo-Finnish War---a war that you probably never heard of. It was a page turner that I hated to put down.

As a Nevil Shute fan I always wondered what happened to the Viceroy parked in the rear of the Airspeed Ltd. hangar that Shute described in his book Slide Rule. Now I know. Airspeed Ltd., Nevil Norway and the Viceroy are all packed into The Mannerheim Line. If you like Nevil Shute you'll like this book--it's a great read.

The author evidentally thoroughly researched the historical events in this book. It was well written and easy to read. The narration is excellent. The characters are made to seem as real American heroes. It records a part of history that is little-known to the average reader. Those familiar with aircraft would particularly appreciate the book and its terminology. Recommended reading for those who are interested in lesser-known world events.

This is a great period action story. The author certainly knows his way around airplanes and gives the reader lots of unusual detail that will be appreciated by airplane buffs. The chapters on World War II in Finland provide a new picture of a little known campaign. The characters are well drawn. They aren't unrealistic glamor types, but good guys trying to get the job done. Highly recommended.

The editorial review/synopsis written by Susan Hepler for this book could not be more wrong. Although the authors do not "dumb down" the judicial process for children, they present it in a fun, organized manner that is engaging to children. I've read this aloud to several very young children, all of whom loved it. In fact, one 3-year old child has nearly the entire book memorized. The illustrations are fantastic and accurate, and the story is entertaining, light-hearted, funny, and educational. Perhaps we should expect more out of our children, and hope that they use intelligent books like this one to learn actively, rather than insisting that authors write simplistic, silly books that cater to some children's (and parents') laziness.

Peter and Cheryl Barnes have opened the doors to the Supreme Court and taken some of the mystery out of the judicial process. Told in rhyme and chock full of information, vocabulary and other fun facts, Chief Justice Marshall J. Mouse and his fellow mice justices show youngsters, step by step, how a law is challenged and makes it way through the court...from petition and oral arguments, to the work by court clerks and conferences by the justices, to handing down the final opinion. Cheryl Barnes marvelous, detailed illustrations include the actual architecture and decor of several rooms inside the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, there are historical notes and other factual information about the Court, famous cases and several justices at the end of the book, to augment lessons and discussions. Marshall, the Courthouse Mouse is a fascinating introduction to the Supreme Court, that will whet the appetite of kids 5 and up and have them asking for more.

With absolutely beautiful illustrations and a rhyming storyline, A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS is a wonderful addition to any home library--or a perfect present for the child on your gift list. Mary Engelbreit has won a place in my heart over the years with her colorful illustrations, and lovable, oft-times zany characters. However, with A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, Engelbreit has managed to combine each and every cheerful thing that accompanies the holidays, and place them all into one very unique, beautifully illustrated rhyming tale, that manages to give a child a lesson in the alphabet due to the fact that it is CELEBRATING FROM A TO Z.

If you are searching for a holiday book that will stay popular throughout the year, you can't go wrong with Mary Engelbreit's latest. The cheerful prose coupled with the breathtaking illustrations of a little mouse family preparing for the coming holiday will make readers young and old smile, while tossing them headfirst into the holiday spirit. An irresistible holiday book that must hold a place in everyone's home library!

This series is a great set of chapter books for kids who have gotten beyond "early reader" chapter books that also enjoy humor in what they read. The central characters, who make repeat performances in each book, add to the delight of the story because of their offbeat personalities. I am not sure how the author decided to feature a pig that eats toast, but it is pure genius that will delight both the young reader and parents as well. I think I looked forward to the new "Mercy" installments as much as my son did.

What a great addition to the early chapter book category. Humor, great characters, real linear storytelling and eye-popping illustrations make these books a real breath of fresh air for early readers. My young (struggling) reader was bringing home thin, uninspiring early readers until her teacher added Mercy Watson to the read-alouds. I knew we had a hit (and a breakthrough) when my child brought them on vacation, raced through them reading silently to herself. Just one problem, we've finished the series and will have to wait six months for the next one. If you're child is having difficulty getting "into" books, these make make a big difference.

This is a great set for 4+ year olds

Very cute set of stories about a couple who have a "pet" pig named Mercy who they treat like their child. Great illustrations and fun story line. My 4-1/2 year old son just got these for Christmas and loves them. The illustrator has done some other books that are excellent ("If I Built a Car") which I also highly recommend. This gift set is hard back and of very nice quality.

This is a book my girls just loved when they were a few years younger. Maggie Kneen's illustrations are just simply wonderful and the story about how the town mouse is frightened by everything in the country and how the country mouse is frightened by everything in the city, especially by the cat is very nice, too. I used to use this book to tell my girls that people in other places (we travel a lot) would think their lives were as strange as she thought the childen's lives were in some of the places we vistied. In short this is a very good book for toddlers and it's got a nice message as well.

This "fish out of water" story concludes with the timeless moral that each of us should be content with our lot in life. Country mouse Tilly invites her city friend to visit, and then town mouse Milly reciprocates. Though they both enjoy each other's company, they part with a new respect for their own place in life.

Kneen's warm, inviting watercolors of the English countryside perfectly set off the lovingly detailed text. Summers seems to have the knack for exposition without going overboard. From the description of Tilly doing her sweeping, cleaning and other "mousework" to the detailed tour of the rooms in Milly's well-furnished townhouse, this book keeps children engrossed from beginning to end.

This is the tale of two mice, one if from the city, Milly, and the other from the country, Tilly. They go to visit each other in their houses. When the Milly goes to visit the Tilly at her country cottage and she is overwhelmed by the peacefulness. It actually starts to drive her a little crazy because she is used to the craziness of the city. They then go to the town where Milly lives. Now Tilly feels out of place. She likes the peacefulness of the country. The hectic city is just too much for her. They both realize that they are happy where they are and that they just like different things.
I like this book because it tells the tale of two mice that like different things but are still friends. When they go to visit each other at one another's houses they realize that they are happy where they are. They are both content with what they have and don't have to change. I think that is what the author is trying to get across in this story. You should be happy with you have and you don't have to change as long as your happy with yourself and where you are in life. Through this story the mice realize this and are all that more satisfied with themselves.

Miss Mouse's House is a sensitive and endearing story. The magical house that Mr. Fleming has created is filled with nooks and crannies that will enchant readers of all ages. Ms. Storms illustrations are superb. The enchanting detail makes the book extremely appealing...both visually and emotionally. This book works well for young readers and the "read to" ages. The story and the illustrations appear to be deceptively simple, but slowly pull the reader into Miss Mouse's magical home. In this magical place imagination rules! The book imparts a sense of wonder and awe to anyone who opens the pages and their mind to the magic. This is truly a unique work. It would be a wonderful gift for any child that loves stories which exercise the imagination.

I have even recommended it to a mother in a restaurant who was having trouble convincing her young son not to use so much ketchup on everything he ate. While it may not change anyone's eating habits, it may lessen any mealtime conflict over using too much of the red stuff. Ketchup and cereal? Pu- Leeze.
