The book is so good!!! It's about two mice, the real Stilton and the fake Stilton battling against each other. One day real Stilton gets locked out in the cold and fake Stilton takes over his life. The next day real Stilton calls Thea, his sister, and Thea says, "Unless you know what Aunt gave you on your birthday you can't talk to me."

The reasons I like this book are:
1. It's funny and it's good for humorous people and children.
2. It's kind of confusing but once you read on you'll get it. It's also kind of cool how every food and drink is made out of cheese. eg. cheese chews and cheese tea.
3. It's very mysterious. I always think something bad is going to happen.

Even though it's not a good bedtime story, this book is good entertainment! So I think If you like funny books you should give this one a try!!!

charming pig story

Review Date: 2008-04-07
In a departure from her many recent picture books on serious topics, Patricia Polacco in this new tale spins a comic story about Ginger, a famous pianist, and her pet pig, Petunia. When Ginger is unexpectedly called to London and doesn't know her housesitter has cancelled, Petunia not only fends for herself, she impersonates her owner as well by dressing up in her clothes, teaching her piano students, and even appearing at social galas in place of her mistress. However, when Ginger returns, Petunia is glad to return to life as a pig--particularly her mud baths. The book features a particularly hilarious sequence in which Petunia drags the governor, her tango partner, directly into a giant fountain of chocolate mousse. The story is delightfully illustrated with Polacco's trademark pencil and marker artwork, and Ginger's lavish and dramatic costumes are particularly well-captured in pinks, oranges, and vibrant yellows. As in most of Polacco's picture books, the lengthy text makes this a good read-aloud for older children, ages 5 and up, or a book that elementary-school aged children can read on their own. Highly recommended.

A fun read-aloud.

Patricia Polacco's GINGER AND PETUNIA tells of elegant lady Ginger, an accomplished pianist and socially active whose passion is her pampered pet pig Petunia. When Petunia is left on her own, she decides to pose as Ginger - and body even notices This lively, fun animal story requires good reading skills or adult assistance but also makes a fun read-aloud.

I loved this book! I do a Patricia Polacco author study in my third grade classroom. She has written many books with lasting messages. This one is just plain fun! My students and I always try to figure out which parts of Ms. Polacco's books are really true. In this one, her dear friend, Virginia Vincent Folsum (Ginger), and her pet pig, Petunia, are it. The rest is pure fantasy and a delightful read. You will not stop smiling as Petunia misses her beloved mud baths trying to get through Ginger's busy schedule while she is away. Enjoy!

What a delightful surprise

I stumbled on this book at my local library while I was killing some time before a business meeting. It was a featured book there. Both the story and the pictures are fantastic. It's about a rich socialite woman, Ginger, who leaves her adored pet pig, Petunia, with a pet sitter who never shows. Through a series of events, the pig takes over Ginger's social obligations and fools everyone to thinking she IS Ginger. Further the pig makes mistakes at the events but the mistakes end up working out for the best and the pig, aka, Ginger, becomes more and more celebrated. The ending really delivers with a hilarious dip into a chocolate fountain (thought to be a mud bath by the pig) at an important party. Everyone at the party joins in. This is going to be "the" book I give for gifts this year. It's a real hoot - or should I say oink?!?

My mom used to read this book to me, and I loved it. She is a teacher (6th grade) and also works with a daycare (K-5th grades). She has read this book to many classes of children over the years, and it is consistently enjoyed.

The book is full of humor, and is very easy to imagine happening in your mind. That's what makes it so great. Plus it's good quality reading--and very appropriate for children.

Even though the story is written as a children's novel, readers of any age will find plenty to love with the three main characters. In the vein of such enjoyable trios as the Three Stooges and Alvin and the Chipmunks, the mice heros (or hoodlums) of this story each flash their personalities in conversation and proceed through the adventurous plotline with their own specific style. The writing is smooth, the moused-sized inventions humorous and the story fluid enough that you might just have to sit down and read it all at once. But don't worry about the time. It is, after all, just a children's book.

A special book

Yes, but those who are owned by guinea pigs DO and this book is a MUST MUST MUST. It's not just a cute picture book about cute animals and the things they can or can't do, it's a mantra, a stress releiver and a guarenteed giggle for anyone with a piggie (cavy) guiding their lives. And, oh yeah, there's some practical info on cavy care, and what to expect from their piggy, too

I like this book because it was a good story and interesting. This story is about a ghost named Gus that is friendly. The lives in an abandon house that no one lives, but a family lives in the house during summer. Their name is the Scott family, with Mr and Mrs. Scott and theirs children Susie and Sammy. This family isn't afraid of ghost or believes in them, so they like going to the house. During the winters the Scotts go back to their own house. Gus is always lonely without them there because he always amuses the family by rattling and clanking in the attic. One day Gus goes out and finds Mouse, who is very cold because its winter. Gus asks Mouse back to the house and spend some time with him. They go back to the house and Mouse is cold, so with Gus's power he makes a fire. Mouse is hungry and Gus isn't because ghost don't get hungry, so with Gus's power, he makes Mouse a cheese sandwich. The next day the Scotts come back to the house and they don't like mice. Read the book to find out what happens to Mouse and the Scotts.

We love all Maisy books but this one is by far the best, tons of flaps and pull tabs make this book a favorite w/ my three yr old AND her 3 month old little brother! This book is so much fun, anytime! If your not familiar w/Lucy Cousins, she hits it right on target w/ her simple, bold primary colored illustrations and simple stories, kids just love!

We all love this one. It's our favorite of all the Maisy books we've read so far. Unlike many others that just have flaps this one does so much more. My daughter loves to blow out the birthday candles, (while I pull the tab), and slurp the juice, (while I again make it disappear.) I think my husband was won over by the happy birthday underwear under the party dress. All and all, a lot of fun and the mini version does the same as the bigger one for such a low price.

Cousins "has it down" when it comes to the perfect books for children ages 0-4. Simple stories, two-dimensional drawings and bright primary colors. The subtle "lessons" that she passes on are a refreshing break from the sledgehammer approach to teaching taken by Barney, etc. No wonder Maisy is so popular!

I acquired a rabbit in March of 2001, rescuing him from an uncertain fate in a vacant lot. In September of 2001, he ate the buttons off my remote control. If I had had this book back then, I'd still have buttons on my remote. Yes, the remote control is a favored chew toy of a busy bunny, acording to Ms. Moore. I believe it. He has since bitten the "on/off" button on the remote for my cable, too.

That said, this is an excellent, no-nonsense guide to keeping a rabbit in the house. It describes breeds, feeding, medical considerations and, most importantly (to me, at least), how to "read" a rabbit. If you've never had a rabbit before, you may find them a bit inscrutable compared to a smiley, waggy dog or a purring, kneading cat.

The breed descriptions are interesting. You'd think that it was "big white bunny", "big lop eared bunny", and "tiny bunny". But, there are a lot of breeds, from the Flemish giant, who is the size of a Maine Coon cat, to the Netherland Dwarf, who is the size of an overfed guinea pig. There are a lot of coat desriptions from the Dutch rabbit, which looks like a police car, to the Jersey Wooly, who looks like a tribble from "Star Trek".
(I consider mine a mini Vacant Lot Lop.)

There's a section on special needs rabbits. This is an interesting facet of rabbit-keeping that I was unaware of when I picked up a stray rabbit in a vacant lot and took him home. Rabbits are fragile and can injure their backs easily. Many knowledgeable rabbit keepers are able to provide an injured or even paralysed rabbit in a comfortable and happy existence. This book outlines care for such delicate creatures.

There are a few black and white photos, but the descriptions are really well done enough that those photos are just there for seasoning.

Another bonus in this book, is that it appears to be in 14 point type, which meant I did not have to wear glasses to read it, but my middle-aged presbyopia is another story.

good book for beginners and "intermediates"

I was pleased to see a new house rabbit book on the market. While I found it slightly less complete than the House Rabbit Handbook by marinell harriman, it still covers most of the basics. It is a bit weak in the following areas:
The author writes about rabbits through an observation of her own house rabbits and I disagree with a few statements she made in the book.
Lack of colored pictures or many pictures at all
facts about nutrition not all 100% accurate.
Howver, I'd recommend it to one who is new to rabbits or has some experience but wants to learn a bit more. Overall, it is an enjoyable book to read and is the type of book you would probably need to read cover-to cover as opposed to using it as a reference
