Spanish is not my native language, (I think that the verb should be esta' not es, but I don't know how to make accented characters inside these forms.!) Anyway, ALL of Eric Carle's artwork is FANTASTIC, and in this case the text is also engaging. Used this successfully for our library storytime.

I enjoy the look and texture of Entrelac knitted items and was happy to find that there was a book that focused specifically on this type of pattern style. The combination of the finished item photos, a break down of related instructions, and pattern placement charts all helped to make this a great book to add to an interesting pattern library.

Adventures Down Under Series
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.

Right at the beginning, these books capture your attention and keep it: from the father's mistaken arrest and deportation to Australia, to his family following on another ship, to countless adventures as the McWaid family searches for their escaped father and unknown grandfather. Patrick, the main character, is a courageous boy who learns to trust God through all the uncertainty of his new life. I picked this series up for the church library, and then decided to read the first one so I would know how they were. I found myself running out to get the other books in the series, just to find out what happened next, and now I have books 1 through 8! This series entertains, as well as teaches its readers to trust God through both the good and bad times.

Bob Keeshan, "Capt. Kangaroo", has compiled a variety of activities for all age groups. Conveniently and logically divided in to types of activities and subdivided into suggested age groups. Lots of activities make use of things you have around the house. Great for relieving the cabin fever associated with cold or rainy days

Inspired Me!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.

This book really inspired me to look in my garden for new things to make baskets with. I was already using pine needles, but now have expanded. Last fall I gathered iris leaves, iris stems, cattails, rushes and honeysuckle. Made a few small baskets, and found it is fun (and cheaper) to gather and prepare your own materials. This year, I am adding dandelion stems, daisy and coreopsis stems, paperwhite and lily leaves, yucca leaves (green and already dried), pine roots...what fun! Some of the plants described in this book are not available in the US, but the myriad of beautiful baskets made from dried bulb leaves alone is enough start my head buzzing with new ideas. Love this book!

I wish I knew them

I will be honest up front - this book is about my Grandfather Wallace and his brother Harold, their uncle Bill and a mate of theirs Arthur. However until last year I never knew this book existed - in fact because of family issues I never knew my Grandfather Wallace. My Father's cousin has edited this book and it is skillfully blended.

The book is really a whole bunch of letters from the boys from Argyle (the 1200 acre Campbell property near Wellington NSW). It provides a brief overview of the family as well as updates at the end and is a chronological acount of there experiences during WWI - at Gallipoli, in France, on leave, their experiences of authority and the subtle way that things changed for them. The letters are written from the boys to the rest of the Campbell family and friends - so you get to see what was on everyones mind during this terrible time

I would recommend spending a whole day to read this book in one go because it is too dis-jointed if you break in up over a period of few days or weeks. The editors have provided commentary where it is needed and as they say it is not their book but the book belongs to the boys from Argyle of which 3 returned alive.

I found it strange to read letters addressed by my kith and kin whom I never had the chance to meet - but a work such as this has keep the memory of 4 very ordinary Australians alive. There are photographs through the book of various characters family friends and the like which makes it a very personal book for any one that reads it.

IT IS A SHAME THAT IT IS CLASSED AS A REMAINDERED BOOK BY THE NEW OWNERS OF KANGAROO PRESS AS A REPRINT WILL MOST LIKLEY NOT BE FORTHCOMING.
