Jeanne Carley clearly loves ferrets, as is evidenced by her awesome photography. If you love ferrets, you'll love the cute and lovable pictures in this calender. To make it even better, this year's theme is musical, making a music lover like me ecstatic. I can't wait to get to the next month to see the next picture! Having this calendar up at work also sparked interest among my co-workers about ferrets and gives me an opportunity to talk about my fuzzies. It's a shame that the Governator forgot his Kindergarten Cop days and lets misnomers about this wonderful pet rule his governorship. Once again, 3 cheers for Jeanne and her work!

The Ferret Calendar is my absolute favorite calendar of all. The photographs are outstanding! As I have had many ferrets over the years, and I'm an avid photographer myself, I know how hard it is to photograph them. Jeanne Carley does a wonderful job of portraying the ferret in such positive ways. Though there are other ferret calendars out there, I feel that this one is the best of all of them. Thank you Jeanne!! Please continue to produce this calendar as I am a customer for life!!

We are long time fans of Jeanne and at one point had 13 Ferrets running lose in our condo here in Fl. We look forward to looking at the wonderful pics and pose's that Jeanne uses every year. It reminds us of our very own babies. How anyone could give a bad review on these calandars cann't be a Ferret Owner or lover. Jeanne please keep up the great work, we have kept every one since at least 1995, and look at them often.

Too much of a sales pitch

Review Date: 2008-08-25
I had previously owned 3 ferrets, who were quite a wonderful business to have. Now that I am a Stepmom, I am considering getting a ferret for my son. I called the local ferret rescue and spoke with the woman for about an hour discussing what we were looking for and what she had. She informed me that she would feel much happier if I purchased this book and read it with my son since it has been over 10 years since I have owned a ferret.

I purchased the book used and my 7 year old and I sat down and read a chapter a night. On this whole, this was a very good beginner's guide to owning a ferret, though I did have some minor problems with it. The over all information was fairly accurate and should give someone who has no clue what they are getting into, a better idea of what a ferret is.

What I would have liked to have seen that wasn't there:
1) This book reads an awful lot like a sales pitch, extolling the virtues of ferrets. Though I personally love them, they really are not the right pet for everyone, and I feel that a much more unbiased reality check on what a ferret is and is not should have been included to deter people from getting a pet that would not be right for them. The book glosses over the scent issue, saying "its not and worse than a dog or cat" well sorry to say, ferrets have a VERY distinct, musky odor and the room you keep them in is going to have that smell. It didn't bother me all that much, but I had friends who wouldn't even enter that room in my home when I had them in college. And I cleaned their litter box daily and cage weekly.
2) The Poo factor - ferrets create a LOT of poo, and unlike a cat, they aren't going to bury it so you need to scoop out their box daily. Also they like to dig, so there is a good chance that they will play in their litter box and you will find poo on the floor around the cage.
3) The colored poo factor - The book tells you that you can feed your ferrets cat food, which you can, but nowhere does it mention that if there is dye in the cat food their poo will contain all of the dye (I thought mine were dying because their poo was neon red) also the dye WILL stain anything the poo touches.
4) Deafness - Many ferrets with white heads are deaf, I had one, it wasn't a problem for me, but we didn't know he was deaf for a long time.
5) Baby ferrets WILL nip, you have to teach them not to, and it's not as easy as they imply in the book.
6) Ferrets have no fear and will commit suicide if you aren't careful. They will climb your bookcase and leap from the top, they will get under your oven, and they will end up in your neighbors apartment by climbing through a hole in the back of your cabinets that you didn't know was there. They CANNOT be left unattended - EVER.
7) There should have been a chapter on how to make appropriate toys for you ferrets, and more on what you should NOT give to your ferrets to play with (IE paper towel rolls can suffocate and kill them)
8) More on ferret proofing - IE pictures of places that almost all homes have which need to be taken care of, but that you may never notice until your fuzzy has made it known to you. Like little holes up under your cabinets, blocking off your kitchen entirely, holes where people have run their cable themselves, etc.
9) Updated section on ferret diseases, particularly warning signs. Too many people think of ferrets as giant hamsters that never need a vet visit.

On the whole this book gave okay starter information on the colors of ferrets, their history, what kind of cage you should buy, and some basic diseases they can get. But in the end it felt more like a sales job to get people to purchase a ferret. And they do a great sales job, my hubby was against a ferret purchase, read the book and was suddenly sold on them. I hope that there will be a future version that is a little less like a sales pitch and a bit more informational.

Lots of Info!

I am so happy I bought this book! It was recommneded by some users on a ferret forum. What a good idea! So much information, I've referenced it a few times about my problematic ferret: he's a biter! Some useful information about switching diets, some recipes, ferret-proofing, etc. Good to have, excellend place to check for questions, and if you still have more- take what you learned to a ferret forum and they can answer your question more detailed! This is a must-have for any ferrent!

I have been ordering Jeanne Carley's Ferret Calendar for years now; my ferrets have both passed (and someday I will get new ones, once my daughter is a little older), but I will keep ordering two calendars each year: one for me and one for my sister over in Europe, who eagerly awaits the calendar each Christmas.
Jeanne takes the most wonderful, unique pictures. Having had ferrets, I know how hard it is to take good pictures, let alone great ones!

(I'm mildly surprised that no one has used that title for a review.)

I've been hooked on Jeanne Carley's ferret calendars for years. They always go up in my work space, and they always go on my Christmas gift list. The little fur-critters come off looking so natural. There is a certain amount of photoshopping, but it's minimal and pretty difficult to detect.

The 2006 Ferret Babies calendar is up to Ms. Carley's usual high standards. She obviously loves her chosen subjects, and such sweet subjects they are!

Highly recommended for ferret lovers, calendar lovers, and lovers of fine photography.

The humor in this book is alive, vibrant & zesty.
Everything that our dull-as-dishwater newspaper strips ARE NOT!

But be advised--while having no nudity, it isn't likely what you'd want a small child to read. Some people confuse comics with "kid stuff"--not the case, here.

Well worth your money, though.

Least I Could Do (or LICD as it's known on the web) is one of those comics that you enjoy reading everyday, because it always has new material and is always funny. There's material that I've been able to relate to from my own life, and some that makes me wish I had the charisma of Rayne, and some that makes me glad I'm not his friend Mick.

It's a well done comic, and every now and then there's a nugget of truth in it that will make you glad you've read that far along. When this book first came out I bought not one, but two, so I could keep one in its original package as a collectable, since I know this will be worth something one day.

This thing is a steal at any price, at well over a hundred pages of color prints, comments from the artist and writer, it's simply fantastic.

Amazing!

Least I Could Do is a funny and great to read web comic, which turned into quite the amazing book. The comic is engaging on it's own merits, with a group of lovable characters and very good jokes. The graphics are wonderful. The book also includes early sketches and commentary about the strips. Aside from some spelling errors, it is a beautifully put together piece of work. Reading the book is even better than reading the comic online because the entire story line is there. Well worth it, buy it today!

This book is well done.

The comic itself is perfect for those who have a great sense of humor.

I stumbled onto this comic about two years ago, way before Chad came into the picture. I was also one of the few who didn't mind the change in art when Chad came.

This comic really helped me throughout the past couple of years. I won't go into detail about the incidents in my life, but they were hard enough to make me fall into a deep depression, not laugh or smile, and lose interest in the things I loved.

Then I stumbled onto this site.

And let me tell you, this honestly made my life easiar, as odd as it may sound. This comic actually made me laugh and made the day brighter. It got to the point to whenever I was feeling extremely down, I'd go to this site to perk me up.

The book, though. The book is amazing. It arrived in my mail the day before my mom had this procedure done that had me scared. I brought the book with me and read it in the waiting room.
That book really helped me get my mind off my mom's procedure, and it made the time go by faster.

To make a long story longer, this book and the webcomic are hilarious. With memorable characters and cliff-hangers that make it seem like a "Mary Worth" comic.
Once you get into a story-line, you have to read until the story-line is over.
But instead of not wanting to read more after the story-line is over, you WANT to read more.

I give this 5 stars. Ryan and Chad did a great job, and I can't wait for them to release another book.

Ferrets are very difficult subjects to photograph. Their insatiable curiosity makes them extremely bad models - cute to look at with behavior that is impossible to replicate and dispositions not given to taking commands. Thus it is easy for us ferret lovers to appreciate a well-done ferret calender, which Jeanne Carley's ferret calendars always are. They are creative, humorous, and they always capture the loveably curious nature of these wonderful little creatures. For those of us who have chosen to share our homes with these musky odored little thieves whose greatest joy is to tip everything over, I highly recommend it.

There's a magic quality to ferrets that shines through in their playful nature -- and Jeanne Carley catches it in each month of the Ferret Calendar. I can't wait to turn the page each month to see what wonderful little face will be entertaining my home. It's as though these little ferrets really can fly a plane or go disco dancing, or even bungee jumping! I recommend this calendar for everyone -- whether a ferret owner or not.

I've been a Jeanne Carley fan since we first brought home a pet ferret 11 years ago, and I continue to be amazed at the originality and beautiful photographic quality in each and every calendar she creates! The 2008 calendar, "Ferret Motion," is wonderful! Ferrets are very difficult subjects to photograph. You can't say, "Sit Spot," to your ferret and expect it to patiently wait for you to take its picture. While you're fiddling with the adjustments on your camera, your ferret's insatiable curiosity takes over and off it goes to explore the beautiful set you have created. Every item is overturned, nibbled on and otherwise scrutinized for its merits as a new toy or snack. In the meantime, you desperately follow your ferret around with one eye behind the camera and one eye on the floor to make sure you don't step on any props that now litter the floor. The prints from the photo lab reveal the trials of the morning photo session-half a ferret in one photo, the wrong end in another, and most pictures are out of focus. Not one print captured the idea you had in mind when you started. That's why Jeanne Carley's ferret calendar is always a source of wonder as well as comedy whenever a new one comes out. Hers has always been my favorite ferret calendar - her pictures always capture the personality of these curious little creatures. I highly recommend it.

How does Jeanne Carley come up with such terrific pictures? I figure it's a combination of a deep understanding and empathy with her chosen subjects; careful planning; lots of patience; lots of not-so-good photos that we'll never see; a judicious use of Photoshop; a not-so-judicious use of bribery; plain and simple luck. And, of course, great skill with the camera. And WE get to enjoy the results; aren't we lucky?

I buy this calendar every year, and I haven't been disappointed yet.

It's nice to discover where ferret babies come from, too.

I Love This Guy is the 4th collection of the popular webcomic created by Ryan Sohmer and Lars DeSouza, Least I Could Do. For the uninitiated, Least I Could Do follows the escapades, sexual or otherwise, of Rayne Summers, an overgrown frat boy who in this latest edition shows newfound maturity in addition to his usual lovable-jerk persona.

Least I Could Do is at its heart a wish-fulfillment fantasy. Rayne scores dozens of girls, gets a highly-paid executive position without any relevant experience, and drives expensive custom cars. Even the name, Rayne Summers, is a thinly-veiled reworking of creator Ryan Sohmer. In any other comic, having such a Mary Sue as the protagonist would be a kiss of death, but Sohmer and DeSouza make it work.

Least I Could Do is always amusing and frequently hilarious. When push comes to shove, a comic needs to be funny, and very few comics today produce a daily strip that is this consistent. The comic is still most effective during the sexual jokes, and during its homages to geek culture, which Sohmer clearly has a broad knowledge of. Weaker moments come when the comic tries to justify Rayne's behavior, such as during spoof of A Christmas Carol where a ghost shows Rayne his own future coming up roses. It would be a great disservice not to mention the artwork of DeSouza, who must rank on any shortlist of comic artists today. Especially effective are his use of unique shot compositions that add vitality to otherwise ordinary scenes.

In the end, those interested in this book will have read the webcomic and liked it, and are wondering if the print version is worth it. To that query I can answer an emphatic YES. The book is jam-packed with author notes and artist sketches. If you liked the comic, you will love the book.

I'd like to cover the technical issues first with this book. To say this is a high quality product wouldn't be doing it justice. Not only is the cover thick and glossy, but every page inside is as well. This is a solid, well put together book. The print quality is great as well.

But really, none of that matters if the content isn't gold right? Well fear not, this comic is PLATINUM. For those of you not familiar with ghetto ranking systems, I'm pretty much saying that this is some damn funny stuff. I've only collected one other comic strip collection before and that was Calvin & Hobbes. So me paying money for this (and the other 3 previous books) when I could read them all for free should tell you something about how awesome Least I Could Do really is.

Why not read it for free you say? Other than being an nonsupportive jerk, you'll be missing out on so much! Damn near every strip has commentary from the creators, not to mention random sketches thrown around all over the book as well. Do yourself a favor and check out the strip for free at http://www.leasticoulddo.com/ and if you like it, shell out a few bucks and buy this book! It's worth it, promise!

Early diagnosis is the key. This is one of the best books you will find and it's more than worth the money invested. Every ferret owner should have a personal copy. Check with your vet to see if they have a copy as well, this is an awesome Christmas present. Read! Highlight! Consult! Together, you can extend the life of your ferret.

This book is the absolute best resource on the medicine of these species. The book is easy to follow and find specific information as necessary. Most illustrations are quite useful, although in black and white. The book is organized mostly by taxonomic groups. However, the book seems to repeat itself in some chapters as well as in different chapters, and sometimes, finding information may be indexed in more than one place only to find that they are all quite similar pieces of information. I HIGHLY reccomend this book, and its is the best amount of informtion at a very affordable price.

I got this book so I can better understand what the heck the vet was telling me about two of my ferrets. It is a reall good resouce for pet owners to learn more about the different medical conditions that will come up with owning a ferret. However, be warned!.... This book explains thing in terminology that a vet or a vet tech will understand. It is not a book for the average person per se, but it did help me ask the right questions and to be better informed. One vet I talked to uses this book as a reference quite often. I enjoyed going through this book and it was very educational.

This book has everything I needed to know and more. The advice on feeding, types of food extended their life span, and safed me major medical expenses down the road. Oh and my Ferrets don't bite any more. I can't say enough about this book. "BIG Bravo Zulu"

This is a great book. It has lots of friendship and sadness. Liz's house is full of animals. She has a hawk named Bessie. She has 2 turtles named Josh and Mr.T. She has a ibex named Ivan. She has lizards and she has her very own pet ferret named Fred. Soon she gets tired of all the animals. So she yells at her dad. Her dad soon takes the animals to the animal place where he works. To find out what happens next, you need to read Ferret in the Bedroom,Lizards in the Fridge. I recommend this book to people who like animals.

The setting of the story happens in both, the school and the home of Elizabeth Robbins who is the main character.
Elizabeth's house is like a zoo and her friends are afraid to go in it.
At school, everyone calls her Liz-art because she likes animals.
There are also other characters in the story: Shane Garrison. He likes animals too. Sally, who doesn't like Jo Donna, and Jo Donna Hunt, who doesn't like Elisabeth and she acts cool because she thinks she is popular.

The story begins when Liz invites people to make posters in her house for the election and many bad things happened. For example Mr.T (a turtle) went pipi on a girl. Or when the bull attacked Sally.

The problem continues when Liz tells her father, who is a zoologist, that he must get rid of all the animals he keeps at home or she'll never win the sixth-grade class presidency.
Sally and Liz try hard to win the election, but none found success.

The resolution to the story happens when Elisabeth steps on stage and says she wanted all the animasl back because she realized those animals where her friends, and that she told her dad she wanted to get rid of them to have friends and to win class presidency.

The ending comes one day when Shane Garrison knocks on Liz's front door.
Shane said that he liked her speech and that he also liked animals and that they were his friends too. They went for a walk and then saw Jo Donna,Shane turned around and held Liz's hand.
From that moment on they became good friends.

I recommend this book because it's a fun book to read and it keeps you interested and curious about what is going to happen next.
And it teaches you a lesson: not to get rid of your real friend just to be popular.

This book was about a girl and her pets and she was trying to win to become class president. So she had to decide if she wanted to give up her friends or give up her pets. So she gave up her pets and then she was upset because she was lonely with out them. And this story takes place at her school and home. The main characters were Liz but everyone called her lizard Miss Wimberl, Sally, Mrs Jones Mr.Mcdonald, Shane, Lizs Mother, Farther, Jo Donna Hunt and lizs animals Fred and Bessie. I would recommend this book for kids my age and older because it was a terrfic book to read.

There is no way to express my feelings about this book. It really changed my attitude about reading. I liked reading a lot; however it made me like reading even more.
I can really understand why this book is an award winning book. My favorite characters are Sally and Liz. I like how they are always covering for each other or right by each others side. There is nothing I would change about this book and I give all my thanks to the author, Thank You Bill.

In the story Ferret in the bedroom , Lizards in the fridge was Elizabeth was running for class president. Her dad is a zoologist and he keeps stray animals, which effects her election for class, president.

Elizabeth is the main character of this story. She is a white girl with freckles. Elizabeth is nice, loves animals, and is very competitive.

The problem for elizabeth is that her dad is a zoologist. The reason why this ia a problem for her, is she is trying to run her campaign from her home. When her guest are over the animals always get out.

Elizabeth solves the problem by asking her dad to keep the animals locked up while her friends are over. So that is how she solves the problem.

My opinion of this is that his is a very good book. It teaches us that we must communicate with each other. I would also recommend this book to other people because it talks about how some people don't care about animals.
